Metropolit makes playoff debut

News: Canadiens C Glen Metropolit returned to the lineup for Game 3 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals against the Capitals after missing the last six regular season games and first two of the playoffs because of a shoulder injury. He had no points and a minus-1 rating in 5:37 of ice time.
Analysis: Metropolit had a career-high 16 goals in 2009-10 and reached 20 points for the third time in four seasons. Unfortunately, Metropolit has really hit an offensive ceiling. He is more on the ice for his faceoff presence. Metropolit isn't going to have much Fantasy appeal heading into 2010-11.

Glen Metropolit

Metropolit out for the season

News: The Montreal Gazette reports that Canadiens C Glen Metropolit will miss the next 6-8 weeks due to a shoulder injury suffered Saturday.
Analysis: Metropolit isn't much of an offensive force on the ice and can be dropped in the minimal amount of Fantasy leagues he had value in.

Glen Metropolit

Metropolit leaves loss injured

News: Montreal C Glen Metropolit left Saturday's loss to New Jersey midway through the first. He sustained an upper body injury on his second shift and didn't return.
Analysis: Metropolit is only four points away from his career high of 33, but those kind of numbers out of a center make for minimal Fantasy value.

Glen Metropolit

Metropolit reaches a dozen goals

News: Canadiens C Glen Metropolit scored his 12th goal of the season in Wednesday's win over the Capitals.
Analysis: With his 23 points, Metropolit is just a veteran that chews up minutes and is far more important to his real team than Fantasy owners.

Glen Metropolit

Metropolit has 1st goal in 19 games

News: Canadiens C Glen Metropolit scored a goal during Thursday's game against the Bruins, one of his former teams. Boston's Matt Hunwick was off for hooking when Metropolit slid home a rebound for his first goal in 19 games.
Analysis: Metropolit has been ice cold since the calendar year hit 2010. He has one goal and one assist in his last 15 games. Metropolit got Fantasy owners excited when he posted eight points in his first eight games, but we figured it wouldn't last and it hasn't. Metropolit is just a veteran that chews up minutes and is far more important to his real team than Fantasy owners.

Glen Metropolit

Metropolit scores twice to reach 10 goals

News: Canadiens C Glen Metropolit scored twice in Wednesday's win over the Hurricanes giving him 10 goals on the season.
Analysis: Metropolit has had a much bigger offensive role since coming to Montreal but is still just a low-end Fantasy option in deeper leagues until he starts to get a little more consistent.

Metropolit records 2 points Friday

News: Montreal C Glen Metropolit recorded a goal and an assist during a 5-1 win over the Bruins on Friday. He also went plus-3 in the game.
Analysis: Metropolit now has six goals on the season and 14 points. This was his first multiple point game since Oct. 26 against the Islanders as he's struggled of late. Metropolit has low-end Fantasy appeal.

Glen Metropolit

Metropolit has Habs' lone goal

News: Canadiens C Glen Metropolit tallied his team's only goal during a 2-1 shootout win on Thursday against the Bruins. Metropolit put Montreal up 1-0 after he beat Tim Thomas with a wrap shot at 17:32 of the first. Metropolit has two goals and three assists in his last six games.
Analysis: Metropolit has nine points in his first 10 games this season and is having one of the better offensive outbursts of his career. Still, we aren't sure Fantasy owners should buy the farm on a guy that has never managed more than 33 points in a season. Metropolit has low-end Fantasy appeal.

Glen Metropolit

Metropolit makes impact in return

News: Glen Metropolit returned to the Canadiens' lineup Thursday against the Islanders after missing six games because of a rib injury and played a big role in giving Montreal a 2-0 lead. The veteran center fed the puck back to Paul Mara at the left point after Tomas Plekanec won a faceoff on the left side of the Islanders' zone. Mara passed across to Marc-Andre Bergeron, who drove a low slap shot inside the right post. Metropolit finished with two assists and a plus-1 rating in 18:15 of ice time.
Analysis: Metropolit has four points in three games this season. Montreal seems to like him on the power play, but when the team is at even strength, he is probably going to spend most of his time on the lower lines. Metropolit has modest offensive skills, but is still a low-end Fantasy option.

Metropolit back at practice

News: The Montreal Gazette reports that Canadiens C Glen Metropolit (ribs) has returned to practice but is still not ready for contact.
Analysis: Metropolit isn't any kind of offensive force on the ice, and has minimal Fantasy value when healthy.

Glen Metropolit

Metropolit sitting out again

News: Canadiens C Glen Metropolit (ribs) was not in the lineup Saturday at Edmonton. He missed a second straight game.
Analysis: The Canadiens are missing Metropolit's veteran presence in the faceoff circle, but Fantasy owners are hardly feeling the effects. He has very low-end Fantasy appeal when healthy.

News: Canadiens C Glen Metropolit (ribs) was not in the lineup Wednesday against the Canucks. He missed a second straight game.

Glen Metropolit

Metropolit sits out on Tuesday

News: Canadiens C Glen Metropolit has an upper-body injury to his rib area and could not play on Tuesday against the Calgary Flames. He is day to day.
Analysis: A rib issue is usually a lot quicker to recover from than other upper-body injuries like, say, a shoulder, so Metropolit shouldn't be out for long. He has minimal Fantasy value anyway, so continue to ignore him in all formats.

Glen Metropolit

Metropolit has upper body injury

News: Montreal lost center Glen Metropolit and defenseman Ryan O'Byrne to injuries in the second period against the Sabres on Saturday. Metropolit was described as having an upper-body injury after he collided with Buffalo forward Patrick Kaleta. O'Byrne limped off after being hit in the foot with a shot. The Canadiens announced neither would return. Montreal is already minus defenseman Andrei Markov, who's expected to miss four months after slicing a tendon in his ankle in a 4-3 overtime win at Toronto on Thursday.
Analysis: Metropolit managed a key power play goal in the team's first game of the season but now might be due to miss some time with the upper body ailment. Keep thinking of him as just a low-end Fantasy option not worth using in most Fantasy formats.

Glen Metropolit, C, MON Metropolit has key power-play score

Glen Metropolit

Metropolit has key power-play score

News: Canadiens C Glen Metropolit had a key third power-play goal that helped Montreal pull out a 4-3 overtime win Thursday against the Maple Leafs. The Maple Leafs appeared to have the game in hand until Mike Komisarek took a late elbowing penalty -- his fifth minor of the night to go with a fighting major. On the power play, Metropolit tipped in a point shot at 15:50 that appeared to go in and out of Vesa Toskala's glove. "It's just one of those things," Metropolit said. "I couldn't believe I was on the power play, so I'm like, 'Where do I go?' So I said, 'Why not go to the front of the net?"'
Analysis: Metropolit added an assist for a multi-point outing. While it is a nice start for the veteran forward, we would keep our expectations in check. Metropolit is pretty much a lower-line presence and will continue to do his best work in the faceoff circle. He has low-end Fantasy appeal in standard formats.

Metropolit has two goals in seven games

News: Canadiens RW Glen Metropolit scored a goal and finished at plus-1 during Tuesday's game against the Thrashers. Metropolit recorded his seventh goal 32 seconds into the second as he beat Kari Lehtonen with a wrister. It was his second goal in seven games.
Analysis: Metropolit has been in a Habs' uniform for 12 games since being claimed off waivers from Philadelphia in late February. He has just the two goals. Metropolit is nothing more than another veteran presence for Montreal. He has very low-end Fantasy appeal.

News: Canadiens RW Glen Metropolit scored his first goal since being picked up off waivers in late February.

Metropolit doesn't factor vs. Flyers

News: RW Glen Metropolit made his Montreal debut Friday hours after being claimed off waivers. Ironically, it came against the team that cut him -- Philadelphia. Metropolit didn't record a point against his former team in 11:47 of ice time and finished at minus-1. He also spent two minutes in the penalty box.
Analysis: The 34-year-old Metropolit had two goals and one assists in his last five games for the Flyers before getting the axe Thursday. He has four goals and 10 assists in 56 games. Metropolit is a solid veteran presence, but has never been an elite scorer. He has minimal Fantasy appeal when active.

Flyers forced to cut Metropolit

News: The Philadelphia Flyers waived center Glen Metropolit and defenseman Ossi Vaananen to clear salary cap space for Danny Briere's impending return. Briere was expected to return to the Flyers for Friday's game against Montreal. He has missed the last 35 games and played in only nine games this season because of surgery on his abdomen and groin. The Flyers needed to dump about $2.5 million in cap space to fit Briere on the roster, and will likely need to make at least one more move. Both players each made about $1 million.
Analysis: The 34-year-old Metropolit had two goals and one assists in his last five games before getting the axe Thursday. He has four goals and 10 assists in 55 games. Metropolit is a solid veteran presence, but has never been an elite scorer. He has minimal Fantasy appeal when healthy.

Metropolit tallies third goal

News: Flyers RW Glen Metropolit tallied his third goal of the season Sunday in a win over the Rangers.
Analysis: Metropolit is a nice veteran presence for the Flyers, but he doesn't put up enough points to be worth using in Fantasy play. Continue to ignore him.

Glen Metropolit

Metropolit nets a rare goal

News: Philadelphia RW Glen Metropolit scored just his third goal of the season on Saturday, beating Islanders goalie Yann Danis. It's his second goal in four games after scoring only one prior goal the entire season.
Analysis: This is about as close to an offensive outburst as you're going to get out of Metropolit which should tell you a whole lot about his Fantasy value. Leave him on waivers in all leagues despite his recent goal-scoring prowess.

Metropolit, Richards switch spots

News: The Sports Xchange reports that, in an attempt to get more offense out of C Glen Metropolit (one goal), Flyers coach John Stevens made a bold move by replacing top-line C Mike Richards with Metropolit and dropping Richards onto a "third" line with wingers Scottie Upshall and Claude Giroux during Thursday's loss to Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Richards is a must-start Fantasy forward when healthy, and this switch isn't likely to be a permanent one, so we wouldn't worry too much. Keep an eye on his ice time and shot numbers over the next few games. Metropolit can continue to be ignored in all Fantasy formats for now.

News: Flyers RW Glen Metropolit assisted in Friday's win over the Ducks, giving him 10 points on the season.

Metropolit gets back on the ice

News: Flyers RW Glen Metropolit returned to action Friday after missing three games with a back injury. He played 16:17, managed two shots on goal and finished with a minus-2 rating in a 5-1 loss to the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Metropolit is a nice veteran presence for the Flyers, but he doesn't put up enough points to be worth using in Fantasy play when healthy. Continue to ignore him.
