Avs' Winchester Done For Season

News: Coach Patrick Roy confirmed Jesse Winchester (concussion) won't return this season.
Analysis: Jesse Winchester appeared to be making progress with his post-concussion symptoms as recently as a couple of weeks ago, when he was cleared to travel with the team, but it appears he might have suffered yet another setback in his recovery. With Winchester's long-term health the most important matter, he won't be rushed into action over the Avs' final three games. He didn't play a single game this season after sustaining the concussion during training camp.

Avs' Winchester Shakes Post-Concussion Symptoms

News: Jesse Winchester (concussion) has been cleared to travel with the Avalanche during their road trip, Terry Frei of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Jesse Winchester appears to have put his long battle with post-concussion symptoms behind him, but it's not apparent when or if he'll enter the lineup again this season. He has yet to play all season after enduring the concussion during training camp, and with repeated setbacks interrupting his progress along the way, the Avalanche may be inclined to have him pack it for the year and prepare for camp next fall.

Avs' Winchester Could Be Done For Year

News: Coach Patrick Roy suggested Tuesday that the Avalanche could shut Jesse Winchester (concussion) down for the remainder of the season, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports. "He's not doing well," Roy said of the injured winger.
Analysis: Jesse Winchester inked a two-year deal with the Avalanche as a free agent in July, but it looks like his first season in Denver could come without him having logged a single regular-season game. He sustained the concussion in the preseason and continues to experiencing lingering vision issues. Winchester had previously resumed skating and traveling with the team, but he's since halted those activities in recent weeks.

Avs' Winchester Practicing With Team

News: Jesse Winchester (concussion) resumed practicing with his Avalanche teammates during their ongoing three-game road trip, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Jesse Winchester won't be an option for the remaining two games of the trip, but it's good to see him join his mates for workouts after previously being limited to working out on his own. The winger continues to recover from a preseason concussion that has resulted in blurred vision, which may or may not still remain an issue. It will be tough to discern a clearer return date for Winchester until he starts practicing with contact and participates in line rushes.

Vision Problems Lingering For Avs' Winchester

News: Jesse Winchester (concussion) continues to experience vision problems, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: The concussion symptoms have been bothering Jesse Winchester since early October, after he suffered the head injury during the preseason. Until he enjoys an extended stretch without any setbacks in his recovery, Winchester will likely be limited to working out on his own.

Avs' Winchester Appears To Have Suffered Setback

News: Jesse Winchester appears to have suffered a setback in his recovery from a concussion, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: After taking contact in practices earlier this week, Jesse Winchester was donning an orange non-contact sweater at Thursday's morning skate, a sign that he's noticed a downgrade in his recovery. The fact that the Avs haven't shut down his on-ice activities entirely offers some encouragement, but it no longer looks as though Winchester will be activated in the coming days.

Avs' Winchester Doubtful For Tuesday

News: Jesse Winchester (concussion) is doubtful for Tuesday's game against the Sharks, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Jesse Winchester participated in contact drills during Monday's practice, but apparently the team isn't quite comfortable with his game yet, so he's expected to make his return Thursday against the Islanders.

Avs' Winchester Expected To Play Tuesday

News: Jesse Winchester (concussion) was a full participant in Monday's practice, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Jesse Winchester hasn't played since suffering a concussion during the preseason, but participated in contact drills in Monday's practice, and is expected to be in the lineup Tuesday against the Sharks.

Avs' Winchester Gets In Non-Contact Work

News: Jesse Winchester (concussion) has resumed taking part in non-contact drills, the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: Jesse Winchester is still awaiting clearance to participate in full-contact practices, so it's difficult to see him being activated from IR at any point this week. He's been out for three weeks with the head injury.

Avs Move Winchester To IR

News: Jesse Winchester (concussion) was moved to injured reserve Thursday, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Jesse Winchester didn't travel with the Avs for their two-game road swing and has yet to receive clearance for practice while he continues to experience concussion-like symptoms. With his return to action not particularly close, the Avs decided to stash him on IR, clearing the way for John Mitchell's (head) activation.

Avs' Winchester Not Skating

News: Jesse Winchester (concussion) has yet to resume skating, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Jesse Winchester remains on the Avs' active roster, but if he fails to make much progress over the next few days, the team may have to seriously consider placing him on injured reserve. In addition to Winchester, the Avs are already without the services of John Mitchell and Patrick Bordeleau in their bottom-six, robbing the team of some needed physicality.

Avs' Winchester Has Concussion

News: Jesse Winchester sustained a concussion in Tuesday's preseason tilt against the Kings, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Coach Patrick Roy suggested Jesse Winchester could be out a while, as he'll be subjected to the league's concussion protocol before returning with the ice. With the regular season just over a week away, there's a good chance Winchester could land on injured reserve if he fails to make much progress.

Winchester Signs With Avs

News: The Avs have signed Jesse Winchester to a two-year, $1.8 million deal, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Jesse Winchester is considered a good defensive player, and while he'll bolster the Avs' depth up front, he's only a fantasy option in deeper formats, having recorded 18 points and 38 PIM in 52 games for the Panthers last season.

Panthers' Winchester Returns To Lineup In Victory

News: Jesse Winchester was held pointless 13:54 minutes in Tuesday night's 3-2 shootout win over Ottawa.
Analysis: It was Jesse Winchester's first game back since Mar.9 and he registered a solid four shots on net despite the limited ice time. Winchester is having a career year of sorts given that he has scored 17 points in 43 games, but from a fantasy perspective he will not contribute much even in the deepest leagues.

Panthers Expect Winchester Back This Week

News: Jesse Winchester (lower body) is expected to return to the Panthers' lineup at some point this week, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Jesse Winchester has been sidelined for the last two weeks due to injury, but looks as though he won't miss too many more contests. He's only a marginal contributor for fantasy purposes, with 17 points in 42 games; however, he could assume a larger role upon returning, as Aleksander Barkov, Jonathan Huberdeau and Tomas Kopecky are all out due to injury.

Panthers' Winchester Out Tuesday With Injury

News: Jesse Winchester is dealing with a lower-body injury and will not play Tuesday vs. the Coyotes, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Joey Crabb was recalled from AHL San Antonio to take his spot in the lineup. The extent of Jesse Winchester's injury isn't known at this time.

Panthers' Winchester Out For A Week

News: Jesse Winchester (lower body) will miss at least a week of action, Alain Poupart of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: This news puts a little more of a timetable on Jesse Winchester's injury than was previously available, although it's still a pretty open-ended one. At this stage in the season, fantasy players are best served to look elsewhere for forward help.

Panthers' Winchester Scores Goal In Win Friday

News: Jesse Winchester scored his ninth goal of the season during the Panthers' 2-0 win over the Sabres on Friday.
Analysis: Jesse Winchester opened the scoring midway through the first period while on the power play and his goal actually proved to be the game-winner. He now has nine goals and eight assists over 41 games this season but is only recommended in the deepest of leagues.

Panthers' Winchester Playing Well Since Injury

News: Jesse Winchester has eight goals and seven assists in 36 games so far this season.
Analysis: The center has also added 27 PIM for the Panthers, so he can make an impact in ways that don't show up on the score sheet. He missed a few weeks with a hand injury earlier in the season, but has played pretty well overall since returning.

Winchester Notches Goal In Panthers' Win

News: Jesse Winchester scored his sixth goal of the season in the Panthers' 4-3 win over the Sabres, Tuesday night.
Analysis: Jesse Winchester now has a goal and three assists while posting a plus-4 rating in his first two games back from a hand injury. Though Winchester has never scored more than 18 points in a season, he has 13 points through 28 games this year and has already reached a new career high with six goals. Winchester is only an option in the deepest of leagues at the moment.

Panthers' Winchester Tallies Three Assists

News: Jesse Winchester picked up three helpers and went plus-3 against the Penguins on Monday.
Analysis: It was Jesse Winchester's first game since Dec. 15, and he made the most of it. However, the veteran has no history of fantasy impact, so this shouldn't be viewed as anything more than a nice night in a surprising win.

Panthers: Winchester To Return Monday

News: Jesse Winchester (hand) will return to the lineup Monday against the Penguins, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Jesse Winchester will return to his third-line role Monday, but don't expect much from him. After putting together a decent scoring streak in late-October and early-November, Winchester returned to his scoreless ways before sustaining his hand injury.

Panthers' Winchester Returns To Practice

News: Jesse Winchester (hand) returned to practice Friday, the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Jesse Winchester has been sidelined since mid-December but appears to be honing in on a return to game action. He'll be evaluated over the weekend, and if he's cleared, Monday's game against the Penguins may be a possibility.

Panthers' Winchester Close To Return

News: Coach Pete Horachek said Jesse Winchester (hand) is close to returning, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Jesse Winchester has missed the last four weeks with a broken hand, but finally appears to be nearing the finish line in his recovery. Prior to suffering the injury, Winchester was enjoying the best offensive season of his career. His five goals are already a new career high, achieved in just 26 games.

Panthers' Winchester Likely Out 3-4 Weeks

News: Jesse Winchester (hand) is expected to miss three-to-four weeks, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Analysis: A hand injury, suffered in Sunday's win over the Canadiens, could sideline Jesse Winchester for up to a month. The 30-year-old has just one point in his last nine games, but his loss will likely be felt along the wing.
