Wings' Abdelkader Productive In Return

News: Justin Abdelkader recorded an assist and six hits in his return to the lineup in Tuesday's Game 3 victory over the Lightning.
Analysis: Playing in his first game since April 4 after recovering from a hand injury, Justin Abdelkader immediately provided a boost to the Red Wings, assisting on Riley Sheahan's third-period power-play goal. Abdelkader also got in a scrape after the Bolts' Cedric Paquette tripped Wings goalie Petr Mrazek, earning himself two minutes in the penalty box. He ultimately finished as the game's second star.

Wings' Abdelkader Set To Return

News: Justin Abdelkader (hand) is slated to play in Tuesday's Game 3 against the Lightning, mlive.com reports.
Analysis: With Justin Abdelkader -- who has missed six games with a hand injury -- back in the Wings' lineup, look for Stephen Weiss to be among the team's healthy scratches on Tuesday.

Red Wings' Abdelkader Expected To Return Tuesday

News: Justin Abdelkader (hand) is expected to play in Tuesday's game three against Tampa Bay, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader has been dealing with a hand injury since Apr. 5 in Detroit's game against Minnesota and has not played since that contest. He skated in a non-contact jersey Friday and appears to be on track for a return to the ice Tuesday.

Wings' Abdelkader (Hand) Out Saturday

News: Justin Abdelkader (hand) will not play on Saturday in Game 2 against Tampa Bay, NHL.com's Bryan Burns reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader was able to skate on Friday in a non-contact jersey, but he still isn't ready to make his return to the Wings' lineup. He should be considered day-to-day, and will get another chance to return to game action on Tuesday.

Wings' Abdelkader (Hand) Goes Through Non-Contact

News: Justin Abdelkader (hand) skated Friday in a non-contact jersey, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: The winger did the same Wednesday and was held out of Thursday's game against the Lightning. He'll remain day-to-day in advance of Saturday's matchup, for which he should be considered questionable. At this point, however, it seems rather unlikely that he'll play.

Wings' Abdelkader Out Thursday

News: Justin Abdelkader (hand) won't play Thursday against the Lightning.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader, who last suited up on April 4, was practicing in a gray no-contact jersey on Wednesday, which suggests that he remains in the day-to-day category for the Wings in advance of Saturday's Game 2 in Tampa Bay.

Wings' Abdelkader Still Questionable For Thursday

News: Justin Abdelkader (hand) appears questionable for Thursday's playoff opener against the Lightning, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader was practicing in a gray no-contact jersey Wednesday and didn't skate as part of a regular line, which casts some doubt on his status for Thursday. The Red Wings should clarify Abdelkader's situation following Thursday's morning skate.

Detroit's Abdelkader Back At Practice

News: Justin Abdelkader (hand) practiced Monday for the first time since last week, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader has been a surprisingly productive offensive player this season, with a career-high 23 goals and 44 points. The Red Wings will need all hands on deck to upset the Lightning, and Abdelkader should be back for Game 1 on Thursday.

Red Wings' Abdelkader Out For Finale

News: Justin Abdelkader (hand) will not be available for Saturday's regular-season finale against the Hurricanes, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader was limited to skating on his own after the main group left the ice during Saturday's morning session, so he'll be forced to miss a fourth straight game as a result. It seems as though Abdelkader is progressing well from the injury, potentially giving him a shot at suiting for Game 1 of the Red Wings' first-round playoff series.

Wings' Abdelkader Out Thursday

News: Justin Abdelkader (hand) will not play Thursday against the Canadiens, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: As was expected, Justin Abdelkader didn't take part in the Red Wings' morning skate and will be forced to sit out a third straight game. The Red Wings have yet to rule him out for the regular-season finale Saturday against the Hurricanes, but Abdelkader may need to resume practicing Friday to have a shot at playing in that contest.

Wings' Abdelkader Day-To-Day

News: Justin Abdelkader is day-to-day with a hand injury, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: The report relays that Justin Abdelkader's hand isn't broken and that the forward could still potentially play Thursday against Montreal. Abdelkader was able to get in a skate Wednesday, and if the inflammation he's been experiencing dies down over the next several hours, he could be a lineup option for one or both of the Wings' final two games. The 28-year-old has compiled a career-high 23 goals and 44 points on the campaign.

Wings' Abdelkader Out Tuesday

News: Justin Abdelkader (hand) will miss Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader, who will miss his second straight game, thus slots into the day-to-day category as Thursday's game against the Habs approaches.

Wings' Abdelkader Iffy For Tuesday

News: Justin Abdelkader (hand) will likely miss Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Per the report, Justin Abdelkader could play in one or both of the Wings' final two regular season games after that, but it looks safe to eliminate him from Tuesday lineup consideration.

Wings' Abdelkader Out Sunday

News: Justin Abdelkader (hand) won't play Sunday against the Caps, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Until the Wings provide additional info, Justin Abdelkader (who injured his hand Saturday against the Wild when he was hit by a shot) slots into the day-to-day category as Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes approaches.

Wings' Abdelkader Hurts Hand

News: Justin Abdelkader suffered a hand injury late in Saturday's game against the Wild, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader's status for Sunday's game against the Caps is thus clouded. Prior to injuring his hand in overtime on Saturday, Abdelkader - who has 44 points in 71 games to date -- took one shot in 16:31 worth of ice time.

Wings' Abdelkader: Suspension Looming?

News: Justin Abdelkader may face a suspension after a hit from behind on Tampa's Jason Garrison who left Saturday's game with an upper-body injury.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader did get a boarding minor on the play, but other offenders have also gotten multi-game suspensions for similar hits on players in vulnerable positions. Abdelkader will be hoping the NHL sees things differently than in those other cases - his goal Saturday extended his current streak to four games and six points, including four goals (one in each game).

Wings' Abdelkader Gets Two Points In Loss

News: Justin Abdelkader scored his 21st goal and added a power-play assist -- his second consecutive two-point game -- in Tuesday's loss to Arizona.
Analysis: With that, Justin Abdelkader's leapfrogged the 40-point mark, and he now has more goals this year than he scored in the last two seasons combined. It's been a stunning career year for the 28-year-old winger, but it's hard to imagine that his offensive game will grow any more than it already has. In fact, regression to the mean next year wouldn't be all that surprising.

Wings' Abdelkader Nets Game-Winner

News: Justin Abdelkader scored the game-winning power-play goal in overtime -- and assisted on the other -- in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Blues.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader also rifled off a season-high seven shots on goal in what was one of his most productive contests of the season. The 28-year-old has now reached the 20-goal plateau for the first time in his career -- doubling up his previous career high -- and has tallied seven goals in March after a slow middle stretch of the season.

Goal Brigade Continues For Wings' Abdelkader

News: Justin Abdelkader scored a goal in his third straight game Saturday against the Flyers, but it wasn't nearly enough in the Red Wings' 7-2 loss.
Analysis: With 19 goals on the campaign, Justin Abdelkader is one tally shy of doubling his previous career-best mark of 10, while also matching his goal production from the last two seasons combined. It looked like regression was inevitably setting in for Abdelkader after he managed only four points in February, but he's since opened March with six goals in six games, amounting to his hottest stretch of the season.

Two Snipes For Wings' Abdelkader

News: Justin Abdelkader scored the first two goals of the game Friday -- one at even strength and the other on the power play -- but it wasn't enough as the Wings fell 5-2 to the Flames.
Analysis: Things looked good early on for Justin Abdelkader and the Wings, as he single-handedly staked his team to a 2-0 lead just 8:12 into the game. The 28-year-old Michigan native has four points in the last three games and 34 in 56 contests this season. His 16 goals and 34 points are already career highs, while his 18 assists are tied for his best season (2013-14) in that category, as well.

Wings' Abdelkader Contributes Assist In Win

News: Justin Abdelkader contributed an assist in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Predators.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader finished February with only four points, but he's still already established new career-best marks in nearly every offensive category. He's locked into a top-six role with the Red Wings, a deployment that should continue to reward those who roster him in mid-sized or deeper leagues.

Red Wings' Abdelkader Tallies Game-Winning Goal

News: Justin Abdelkader netted the game-winning goal in Thursday's 3-0 triumph over the Avalanche.
Analysis: After a scoreless first period, Justin Abdelkader gave the Red Wings the lead for good with a power-play tally on a feed from Henrik Zetterberg. The winger has taken on a surprisingly large role in the Detroit attack this season, despite the team's mostly good fortune on the health front. His 12 goals are already a career-best, and his next point will also establish another personal high for a season.

Red Wings' Abdelkader Gets Another Point

News: Justin Abdelkader notched an assist and went plus-2 in Tuesday's victory over the Wild.
Analysis: The 27-year-old continues to enjoy a surprising breakout season, as his 11 goals and 15 assists over 40 games put him only two points behind his career-best mark. So long as he retains a top-six role for the Red Wings, Justin Abdelkader figures to maintain a decent amount of value for those in mid-sized or deeper formats.

Two More Points For Wings' Abdelkader

News: Justin Abdelkader ripped off another two points Wednesday, potting a goal and dishing out an assist in a 3-2 win over Calgary.
Analysis: That's eight points in the last seven games for the 27-year-old, who is up to 23 points this season. Justin Abdelkader has clearly enjoyed life beside Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk at different times this season, and is just five points away from obliterating his career high of 28 set last year.

Three-Point Explosion For Wings' Abdelkader

News: Justin Abdelkader scored his 10th goal of the year on a power play and dished out two helpers -- including one on Pavel Datsyuk's power-play winner -- in Tuesday's 4-2 victory over Edmonton.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader's stunning age-27 breakout continues. He's now matched his career high in goals -- he scored 10 in each of the last two seasons -- and is only seven off last year's career-high 28 points. He's on pace to easily clear 40 points if he stays healthy, especially if he keeps seeing power-play opportunities.
