Red Wings' Abdelkader To Return Tuesday

News: Justin Abdelkader (upper body) will play in Tuesday's game against the Blue Jackets, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader skated on the top line at Tuesday's morning skate, so it appears he'll jump right back into a key role for the Red Wings. He's tallied 15 points and 20 PIM in 24 games this season, so he could be worth a look if he's available in your league.

News: Justin Abdelkader (upper body) practiced Monday and is on pace to play in Tuesday's game, Ansar Khan of MLive reports.

Red Wings' Abdelkader Placed On IR

News: Justin Abdelkader (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Thursday.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader looked like he could be a possible option for Friday's game against the Panthers after shedding his non-contact jersey at Thursday's practice, but it sounds like the Red Wings are content to give him a little more recovery time. The IR placement won't affect his return date, but coach Mike Babcock said after Thursday's session that he didn't expect the winger back until next Tuesday, according to MLive.com's Ansar Khan.

Red Wings' Abdelkader Out Wednesday

News: Justin Abdelkader (upper body) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Maple Leafs, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.

Wings' Abdelkader Practices Tuesday

News: Justin Abdelkader (upper body) took part in non-contact work during Tuesday's practice, Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader will more than likely remain out for Wednesday's game against the Maple Leafs, but if he's able to get in a full practice over the next two days, he could rejoin the lineup before the week is out. Stephen Weiss has been the greatest beneficiary of his absence, emerging as a mainstay in the lineup with five points in the four contests that Abdelkader has missed.

Red Wings' Abdelkader Won't Play Over Weekend

News: Justin Abdelkader (upper body) won't play in either of Detroit's two weekend contests, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader has missed the Red Wings' previous two games while dealing with a slight shoulder separation and has no timetable for a return. He was able to get in a skate on his own after Friday's practice, but it doesn't appear he's close to rejoining his teammates for workouts.

Wings' Abdelkader Remains Out Thursday

News: Justin Abdelkader (upper body) will not play Thursday against the Stars, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader failed to take part in the morning skate Thursday, after a recent bout with the flu in addition to his injury sidetracked his recovery process. The Red Wings are still listing him as day-to-day, so he'll remain in consideration for a lineup spot Saturday versus the Rangers.

Wings' Abdelkader Misses Practice

News: Justin Abdelkader (shoulder) did not practice Monday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: There's still no word from the team on the severity of Justin Abdelkader's injury, but he appears doubtful for Tuesday's game against the Panthers at this point. The winger collected seven goals and eight assists in 24 games to start the season before getting hurt.

Wings' Abdelkader Day-To-Day With Shoulder Injury

News: Justin Abdelkader is considered day-to-day after suffering a shoulder injury in the second period of Sunday's game against the Canucks, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader's injury is considered minor, meaning he could return for Tuesday's game against the Panthers. If he can't go, Joakim Anderson or Dan Clary will likely draw a spot in the lineup.

Abelkader Leaves With Upper-Body Injury

News: Justin Abdelkader left Sunday's game against the Canucks with an upper-body injury and will not return, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: The origin of Justin Abdelkader's injury is unclear at this point, but it will cause him to miss the remainder of Sunday's game at a minimum. The team next plays Tuesday, but they should give an update on the 27-year-old forward's status before then.

Two-Point Night For Wings' Abdelkader

News: Justin Abdelkader scored his sixth goal and dished his eighth assist in Thursday's win over the Jets.
Analysis: Your eyes aren't deceiving you -- that's 14 points in 23 games for Justin Abdelkader, light years ahead of his normal scoring pace. He's already halfway to last year's career-high total of 28 points. And after a cool stretch, he's warming up again, having notched four points in his last four games.

Wings' Abdelkader Chips In Assist

News: Justin Abdelkader tallied an assist in a 5-0 blowout victory against the Blue Jackets on Tuesday.
Analysis: While Justin Abdelkader's hot start has cooled off, he still has two points in his last three games and 12 in 18 contests. He may not be an automatic start like he was in October, but he's still a decent play for now.

Wings' Abdelkader Continues Blazing Start

News: Justin Abdelkader kept up his streak of hot play Sunday, as he tallied an assist in a 3-2 shootout loss to Buffalo.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader is off to a blazing start, with 10 points in 11 games. Although history dictates Abdelkader's production will tail off, 11 games starts to be more than a fluke. If you've got him, use him now while he's on fire.

Abdelkader's Three Points Lead Wings To Victory

News: Justin Abdelkader racked up two goals and an assist in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Capitals.
Analysis: The gritty winger is off to a blazing hot start with five goals and three assists in nine games, and his two third period goals Wednesday helped spur the Wings to victory. He's probably a good player to use as trade bait at this point, though, since he's never scored more than 28 points in a season, and is already halfway to his career high in goals.

Wings' Abdelkader Returns To Start Second Period

News: Justin Abdelkader returned for the start of the second period Thursday after leaving in the first, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader took a puck to the face near the end of the first period and was taken to the locker room, but returned for the start of the second period. It appears he should be good to go.

Wings' Abdelkader Leaves After Taking Puck To Face

News: Justin Abdelkader left Thursday's game late in the first period after taking a puck to the face, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader needed to be helped off the ice and taken into the locker room because of the injury. He didn't return for the remainder of the first period, though there wasn't much time left, but the team will likely update his status for the remainder of the game at some point in the near future.

Wings' Abdelkader Notches Two Points In WIn

News: Justin Abdelkader scored a goal and added an assist in Friday's win over Toronto.
Analysis: The 27-year-old third-line winger has now collected four points (two goals) through four games on the season. Justin Abdelkader's value comes in very deep leagues, as he has never surpassed 28 points in a season and sees minimal power-play time.

Detroit's Abdelkader Slated To Play Friday

News: Justin Abdelkader said after morning skate that he'd be in the lineup Friday against the Maple Leafs, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader was given Thursday's practice off for maintenance purposes, but it sounds like he's feeling fully healthy. Abdelkader could receive a day off somewhere down the road in order for either Dan Cleary or Stephen Weiss to get in the lineup, but it doesn't appear that will happen Friday.

Detroit's Abdelkader Could Be Scratched Friday

News: Justin Abdelkader missed Thursday's practice with what coach Mike Babcock called a "maintenance day," MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Babcock said that Justin Abdelkader would be available for Friday's game against the Maple Leafs, but he didn't confirm the winger would necessarily be in the lineup. Neither Stephen Weiss nor Dan Cleary has seen the ice this season, so the weekend back-to-back set could present a good opportunity for either player to spell Abdelkader for a game.

Wings' Abdelkader Notches Goal

News: Justin Abdelkader tallied one of two second-period goals for the Red Wings in their 2-1 victory over the Bruins on Thursday.
Analysis: In a game in which the two teams combined for just 41 shots, Justin Abdelkader's deflected shot past goalie Tuukka Rask mostly amounted to a stroke of luck for the Red Wings. Both Abdelkader and Johan Franzen were in the vicinity of the puck when it deflected into the goal, but after video review, Abdelkader was awarded the marker. Abdelkader saw 17:34 of ice time in the victory, and should continue to see a decent amount of minutes due to his competence at both even strength and on special teams.

Second-Line Role On Tap For Wings' Abdelkader?

News: Justin Abdelkader has been playing on the Red Wings' projected second line through the first three days of training camp, joining Stephen Weiss and Gustav Nyquist, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader bounced all over the place for the Red Wings last season as the team dealt with a litany of injuries at forward, but with the team in better overall health entering 2014-15, he should see more stability in his role. The 27-year-old is valued by the coaching staff for his versatility as a checker, penalty killer, and depth scorer, but it's the latter attribute that largely puts him off the radar for fantasy purposes. Last season's meager outputs of 10 goals and 28 points represented career-highs, and he's unlikely to notice a spike in either category in 2014-15 if the Red Wings enjoy some semblance of health.

Red Wings' Abdelkader Scores Twice

News: Justin Abdelkader scored two goals, including the game-winner against the Blues on Sunday.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader ends the regular season with a new career high in points with 28, even though he only played in 70 games.
