Abdelkader's Three Points Lead Wings To Victory

News: Justin Abdelkader racked up two goals and an assist in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Capitals.
Analysis: The gritty winger is off to a blazing hot start with five goals and three assists in nine games, and his two third period goals Wednesday helped spur the Wings to victory. He's probably a good player to use as trade bait at this point, though, since he's never scored more than 28 points in a season, and is already halfway to his career high in goals.

Wings' Abdelkader Returns To Start Second Period

News: Justin Abdelkader returned for the start of the second period Thursday after leaving in the first, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader took a puck to the face near the end of the first period and was taken to the locker room, but returned for the start of the second period. It appears he should be good to go.

Wings' Abdelkader Leaves After Taking Puck To Face

News: Justin Abdelkader left Thursday's game late in the first period after taking a puck to the face, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader needed to be helped off the ice and taken into the locker room because of the injury. He didn't return for the remainder of the first period, though there wasn't much time left, but the team will likely update his status for the remainder of the game at some point in the near future.

Wings' Abdelkader Notches Two Points In WIn

News: Justin Abdelkader scored a goal and added an assist in Friday's win over Toronto.
Analysis: The 27-year-old third-line winger has now collected four points (two goals) through four games on the season. Justin Abdelkader's value comes in very deep leagues, as he has never surpassed 28 points in a season and sees minimal power-play time.

Detroit's Abdelkader Slated To Play Friday

News: Justin Abdelkader said after morning skate that he'd be in the lineup Friday against the Maple Leafs, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader was given Thursday's practice off for maintenance purposes, but it sounds like he's feeling fully healthy. Abdelkader could receive a day off somewhere down the road in order for either Dan Cleary or Stephen Weiss to get in the lineup, but it doesn't appear that will happen Friday.

Detroit's Abdelkader Could Be Scratched Friday

News: Justin Abdelkader missed Thursday's practice with what coach Mike Babcock called a "maintenance day," MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Babcock said that Justin Abdelkader would be available for Friday's game against the Maple Leafs, but he didn't confirm the winger would necessarily be in the lineup. Neither Stephen Weiss nor Dan Cleary has seen the ice this season, so the weekend back-to-back set could present a good opportunity for either player to spell Abdelkader for a game.

Wings' Abdelkader Notches Goal

News: Justin Abdelkader tallied one of two second-period goals for the Red Wings in their 2-1 victory over the Bruins on Thursday.
Analysis: In a game in which the two teams combined for just 41 shots, Justin Abdelkader's deflected shot past goalie Tuukka Rask mostly amounted to a stroke of luck for the Red Wings. Both Abdelkader and Johan Franzen were in the vicinity of the puck when it deflected into the goal, but after video review, Abdelkader was awarded the marker. Abdelkader saw 17:34 of ice time in the victory, and should continue to see a decent amount of minutes due to his competence at both even strength and on special teams.

Second-Line Role On Tap For Wings' Abdelkader?

News: Justin Abdelkader has been playing on the Red Wings' projected second line through the first three days of training camp, joining Stephen Weiss and Gustav Nyquist, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader bounced all over the place for the Red Wings last season as the team dealt with a litany of injuries at forward, but with the team in better overall health entering 2014-15, he should see more stability in his role. The 27-year-old is valued by the coaching staff for his versatility as a checker, penalty killer, and depth scorer, but it's the latter attribute that largely puts him off the radar for fantasy purposes. Last season's meager outputs of 10 goals and 28 points represented career-highs, and he's unlikely to notice a spike in either category in 2014-15 if the Red Wings enjoy some semblance of health.

News: Justin Abdelkader (leg) will return to the lineup Sunday, Chuck Pleiness of the Macomb Daily reports.
Analysis: Word actually came from GM Ken Holland that Justin Abdelkader would finally return after missing the last two weeks with a large cut on his leg. No word yet as to who sits.

Red Wings' Abdelkader Eyeing Sunday Return

News: Justin Abdelkader (leg) hopes to be available Sunday against the Lightning, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader took part in an on-ice workout at Saturday's morning skate and will check back on how his leg feels Sunday morning. He's been out since Mar. 16 after suffering a deep laceration from a blade slashing him just above his left knee.

Wings' Abdelkader Shooting For Weekend Return

News: Justin Abdelkader (leg) hopes to return to the lineup this weekend, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader, although not a dynamite scorer, is a key cog for the Red Wings. He can play on any line comfortably, and will help Detroit in this final playoff push.

Wings' Abdelkader Returns To Ice

News: Justin Abdelkader (leg) skated during the team's optional skate Wednesday, Chuck Pleiness of Macomb Daily reports.
Analysis: Wednesday was Justin Abdelkader's first time on the ice since suffering a leg laceration on March 16 against the Blackhawks, and the team is hoping that he will be able to return some time next week. He has eight goals and 16 assists in 62 games this season.

Wings' Abdelkader Sidelined

News: Justin Abdelkader is slated to miss two weeks due to a cut leg, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: With Justin Abdelkader -- who suffered the injury in Sunday's game against Chicago -- now out, the Wings have bolstered their depth up front by calling up Landon Ferraro from AHL Grand Rapids.

Red Wings' Abdelkader Nursing Injury

News: Justin Abdelkader has a lower-body injury and is questionable for Tuesday's game vs. the Maple Leafs, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: The Red Wings have already recalled Landon Ferraro from AHL Grand Rapids on an emergency basis in the event of Justin Abdelkader's absence Tuesday. The veteran winger apparently suffered the injury in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Blackhawks. He skated for 14:33 and logged five hits and a minus-1 rating in the defeat.

Red Wings' Abdelkader Scores Twice

News: Justin Abdelkader scored both of Detroit's goals against the Canucks on Monday. One was on the power-play, one was the game-winner, and he also picked up two penalty minutes.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader has tied his career high in points, but that's only a total of 22. He's not much of a scorer, and even all the injuries that have plagued the Wings this season haven't boosted his numbers too much.

Wings' Abdelkader Adds Two Assists Wednesday

News: Justin Abdelkader picked up two assists in Wednesday's 5-4 SO win over the Blackhawks.
Analysis: The gritty winger doesn't score much, but was able to notch his 12th and 13th assists of the season. Justin Abdelkader now has 18 points and a plus-7 rating through 45 games this season.

Detroit's Abdelkader Scores Again

News: Justin Abdelkader potted a goal for the second straight game Wednesday in a 3-2 loss to Toronto.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader has two goals and seven penalty minutes in three games since returning from injury. He's not going to light the ice on fire, but may have a little value in deeper leagues with 15 points in 37 games.

Detroit's Abdelkader Scores Monday

News: Justin Abdelkader scored a goal for the first time in more than a month in Monday's 6-4 loss to Nashville.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader has been a solid contributor for Detroit this season, as he's more of a hustle guy than a scorer. That said, he still has 14 points in 36 games that have seen him on nearly every line in an attempt to boost the Wings' offense.

Red Wings' Abdelkader Cleared For Saturday

News: Justin Abdelkader (head) has been cleared to return to action, but won't do so until Saturday against the Panthers, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: GM Ken Holland said the forward would not play Monday against the Islanders, mostly as a precaution. With the Red Wings short on quality forwards due to injuries, Justin Abdelkader should easily earn at least a third-line role when he returns to the lineup.

Wings' Abdelkader Likely Out Monday

News: Justin Abdelkader (head) appears to be out for Monday's game against the Islanders, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader wasn't skating on a line during morning skate, a sign he more than likely won't be used. With the Red Wings not set to play again until Saturday against the Panthers, Abdelkader will get a few extra days to rest up for a weekend return.

Wings' Abdelkader Hopes To Play Monday

News: Justin Abdelkader (head) is aiming to play Monday against the Islanders, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader was set to go in for some neuro-testing Saturday afternoon with the hope that he'd be cleared for a return to action. His availability or unavailability for Monday's contest should be known before the weekend is over.

Wings' Abdelkader Could Return Soon

News: Justin Abdelkader (concussion) could return to the lineup Saturday or Monday, Chuck Pleiness of the Macomb Daily reports.
Analysis: Now symptom-free, Justin Abdelkader has been skating for the last few days and looks like he will just need to get some full-contact work in before the Red Wings confirm he's ready to go. The team should know by the conclusion of Saturday's morning skate whether Abdelkader will be able to suit up.

Wings' Abdelkader Skates

News: Justin Abdelkader (head) skated Wednesday for the first time since suffering an injury Saturday against the Lightning, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: There's still no word on whether or not the winger has passed the league-mandated concussion tests, so even though he's skating, there's not a timetable for his return yet. Once we get word that he has been cleared for contact, we'll have a better idea of when he'll return to the lineup.

Red Wings' Abdelkader Making Steady Improvement

News: Justin Abdelkader (jaw) says he is making daily progress in his recovery and could return to game action next week, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: It hasn't been revealed whether or not Justin Abdelkader has passed his concussion tests, but the fact that he's progressing nicely is at least encouraging news. He missed his fist contest Sunday due to the head injury.
