Wings' Abdelkader: Suspension Looming?

News: Justin Abdelkader may face a suspension after a hit from behind on Tampa's Jason Garrison who left Saturday's game with an upper-body injury.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader did get a boarding minor on the play, but other offenders have also gotten multi-game suspensions for similar hits on players in vulnerable positions. Abdelkader will be hoping the NHL sees things differently than in those other cases - his goal Saturday extended his current streak to four games and six points, including four goals (one in each game).

Wings' Abdelkader Gets Two Points In Loss

News: Justin Abdelkader scored his 21st goal and added a power-play assist -- his second consecutive two-point game -- in Tuesday's loss to Arizona.
Analysis: With that, Justin Abdelkader's leapfrogged the 40-point mark, and he now has more goals this year than he scored in the last two seasons combined. It's been a stunning career year for the 28-year-old winger, but it's hard to imagine that his offensive game will grow any more than it already has. In fact, regression to the mean next year wouldn't be all that surprising.

Wings' Abdelkader Nets Game-Winner

News: Justin Abdelkader scored the game-winning power-play goal in overtime -- and assisted on the other -- in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Blues.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader also rifled off a season-high seven shots on goal in what was one of his most productive contests of the season. The 28-year-old has now reached the 20-goal plateau for the first time in his career -- doubling up his previous career high -- and has tallied seven goals in March after a slow middle stretch of the season.

Goal Brigade Continues For Wings' Abdelkader

News: Justin Abdelkader scored a goal in his third straight game Saturday against the Flyers, but it wasn't nearly enough in the Red Wings' 7-2 loss.
Analysis: With 19 goals on the campaign, Justin Abdelkader is one tally shy of doubling his previous career-best mark of 10, while also matching his goal production from the last two seasons combined. It looked like regression was inevitably setting in for Abdelkader after he managed only four points in February, but he's since opened March with six goals in six games, amounting to his hottest stretch of the season.

Two Snipes For Wings' Abdelkader

News: Justin Abdelkader scored the first two goals of the game Friday -- one at even strength and the other on the power play -- but it wasn't enough as the Wings fell 5-2 to the Flames.
Analysis: Things looked good early on for Justin Abdelkader and the Wings, as he single-handedly staked his team to a 2-0 lead just 8:12 into the game. The 28-year-old Michigan native has four points in the last three games and 34 in 56 contests this season. His 16 goals and 34 points are already career highs, while his 18 assists are tied for his best season (2013-14) in that category, as well.

Wings' Abdelkader Contributes Assist In Win

News: Justin Abdelkader contributed an assist in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Predators.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader finished February with only four points, but he's still already established new career-best marks in nearly every offensive category. He's locked into a top-six role with the Red Wings, a deployment that should continue to reward those who roster him in mid-sized or deeper leagues.

Red Wings' Abdelkader Tallies Game-Winning Goal

News: Justin Abdelkader netted the game-winning goal in Thursday's 3-0 triumph over the Avalanche.
Analysis: After a scoreless first period, Justin Abdelkader gave the Red Wings the lead for good with a power-play tally on a feed from Henrik Zetterberg. The winger has taken on a surprisingly large role in the Detroit attack this season, despite the team's mostly good fortune on the health front. His 12 goals are already a career-best, and his next point will also establish another personal high for a season.

Red Wings' Abdelkader Gets Another Point

News: Justin Abdelkader notched an assist and went plus-2 in Tuesday's victory over the Wild.
Analysis: The 27-year-old continues to enjoy a surprising breakout season, as his 11 goals and 15 assists over 40 games put him only two points behind his career-best mark. So long as he retains a top-six role for the Red Wings, Justin Abdelkader figures to maintain a decent amount of value for those in mid-sized or deeper formats.

Two More Points For Wings' Abdelkader

News: Justin Abdelkader ripped off another two points Wednesday, potting a goal and dishing out an assist in a 3-2 win over Calgary.
Analysis: That's eight points in the last seven games for the 27-year-old, who is up to 23 points this season. Justin Abdelkader has clearly enjoyed life beside Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk at different times this season, and is just five points away from obliterating his career high of 28 set last year.

Three-Point Explosion For Wings' Abdelkader

News: Justin Abdelkader scored his 10th goal of the year on a power play and dished out two helpers -- including one on Pavel Datsyuk's power-play winner -- in Tuesday's 4-2 victory over Edmonton.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader's stunning age-27 breakout continues. He's now matched his career high in goals -- he scored 10 in each of the last two seasons -- and is only seven off last year's career-high 28 points. He's on pace to easily clear 40 points if he stays healthy, especially if he keeps seeing power-play opportunities.

Wings' Abdelkader Gets First Point Since Return

News: Justin Abdelkader registered an assist in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Sabres.
Analysis: It was Justin Abdelkader's first point in his four games since returning from a shoulder injury, but there's still a lot to like about him in mid-sized or deeper formats given his current standing on the Red Wings' depth chart. Abdelkader continues to man a top-line spot with Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk, topping over 19 minutes in each of the last two contests. Even a player like Abdelkader with a modest track record as a scorer warrants attention while he remains aligned with those two studs.

Red Wings Activate Abdelkader

News: Justin Abdelkader (shoulder) has been activated from injured reserve in advance of Tuesday's game against the Blue Jackets, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader will return to the lineup after a seven-game absence due to the partially-separated shoulder. He's expected to slot in next to Gustav Nyquist and Henrik Zetterberg on the Red Wings' top line.

Red Wings' Abdelkader To Return Tuesday

News: Justin Abdelkader (upper body) will play in Tuesday's game against the Blue Jackets, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader skated on the top line at Tuesday's morning skate, so it appears he'll jump right back into a key role for the Red Wings. He's tallied 15 points and 20 PIM in 24 games this season, so he could be worth a look if he's available in your league.

News: Justin Abdelkader (upper body) practiced Monday and is on pace to play in Tuesday's game, Ansar Khan of MLive reports.

Red Wings' Abdelkader Placed On IR

News: Justin Abdelkader (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Thursday.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader looked like he could be a possible option for Friday's game against the Panthers after shedding his non-contact jersey at Thursday's practice, but it sounds like the Red Wings are content to give him a little more recovery time. The IR placement won't affect his return date, but coach Mike Babcock said after Thursday's session that he didn't expect the winger back until next Tuesday, according to MLive.com's Ansar Khan.

News: Justin Abdelkader (upper body) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Maple Leafs, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.

Wings' Abdelkader Practices Tuesday

News: Justin Abdelkader (upper body) took part in non-contact work during Tuesday's practice, Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader will more than likely remain out for Wednesday's game against the Maple Leafs, but if he's able to get in a full practice over the next two days, he could rejoin the lineup before the week is out. Stephen Weiss has been the greatest beneficiary of his absence, emerging as a mainstay in the lineup with five points in the four contests that Abdelkader has missed.

Red Wings' Abdelkader Won't Play Over Weekend

News: Justin Abdelkader (upper body) won't play in either of Detroit's two weekend contests, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader has missed the Red Wings' previous two games while dealing with a slight shoulder separation and has no timetable for a return. He was able to get in a skate on his own after Friday's practice, but it doesn't appear he's close to rejoining his teammates for workouts.

Wings' Abdelkader Remains Out Thursday

News: Justin Abdelkader (upper body) will not play Thursday against the Stars, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Justin Abdelkader failed to take part in the morning skate Thursday, after a recent bout with the flu in addition to his injury sidetracked his recovery process. The Red Wings are still listing him as day-to-day, so he'll remain in consideration for a lineup spot Saturday versus the Rangers.

News: Justin Abdelkader left Sunday's game against the Canucks with an upper-body injury and will not return, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: The origin of Justin Abdelkader's injury is unclear at this point, but it will cause him to miss the remainder of Sunday's game at a minimum. The team next plays Tuesday, but they should give an update on the 27-year-old forward's status before then.

Two-Point Night For Wings' Abdelkader

News: Justin Abdelkader scored his sixth goal and dished his eighth assist in Thursday's win over the Jets.
Analysis: Your eyes aren't deceiving you -- that's 14 points in 23 games for Justin Abdelkader, light years ahead of his normal scoring pace. He's already halfway to last year's career-high total of 28 points. And after a cool stretch, he's warming up again, having notched four points in his last four games.
