Kings' Doughty Notches Goal; Assist Wednesday

News: Drew Doughty found the back of the net and added a helper in Wednesday's 6-5 shootout loss to the Ducks.
Analysis: He also spent a whopping 30:30 on the ice, firing three shots on goal in the process. For all of his real-world talent and skill, Drew Doughty doesn't make for the sexiest fantasy asset among the league's top defencemen, but his eight points, plus-three rating, and 39 shots in 16 games aren't anything to scoff at, either.

Kings' Doughty Helps Out In Loss

News: Drew Doughty registered an assist in Sunday's loss to the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Drew Doughty has yet to find twine on any of his 27 shot attempts this season, keeping him well off pace of reaching double-digits in goals for the fifth time in his brief career. He's still attempting shots at essentially the same rate (2.25 per game) as last season, so there's reason to think the goal drought can mostly be attributed to unfortunate luck.

Kings' Doughty Delivers Two-Assist Game

News: Drew Doughty assisted on two scores in Sunday's victory over the Jets.
Analysis: After being held without a point on only four shots in goal in his first two goals, Drew Doughty demonstrated his capabilities as an offensive threat Sunday. He doubled his shot total for the season with four attempts on goal, while also finishing with a plus-2 rating. Though Doughty is a solid two-way defenseman and an annual contender for the Norris Trophy, it's worth noting that he only had four multipoint games last season, which likely places him in a tier below fantasy blueline stalwarts Erik Karlsson and Shea Weber.

Kings' Doughty Scores In Return To Lineup

News: Drew Doughty (upper body) scored a power play goal and logged over 22 minutes of ice time in his first action of the preseason Tuesday.
Analysis: Drew Doughty had been held out with some sort of upper body injury sustained during offseason workouts shortly before training camp opened but had always remained confident that he'd be back in plenty of time for the regular season. He may not play in all of the remaining exhibition games but he's all set for the season opener.

Kings' Doughty Cleared To Return

News: Drew Doughty (upper body) has been medically cleared to return and figures to do so this week, LA Kings Insider reports.
Analysis: Drew Doughty could have played Sunday, but was held out of the lineup for another game. Look for him to return either Tuesday or Thursday.

Doughty Nearing A Return For Kings

News: Drew Doughty (upper body) hopes to return to preseason games soon, the LA Kings Insider reports. "Everything's good," he said. "No problems, so I'm good to go whenever."
Analysis: Drew Doughty may not return Sunday but figures to make his return shortly thereafter. This doesn't look like anything that will impact his availability for the regular season.

Kings' Doughty Gets In Full Practice

News: Drew Doughty (upper body) took part in a full practice Tuesday, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Drew Doughty missed the first three days of training camp after sustaining the injury during offseason workouts, but was never a serious threat to miss the Kings' Oct. 8 season opener. The Kings still plan to sit the veteran blueliner during the first handful of exhibition games as a precaution, but he should get some action under his belt before the start of the season.

Kings' Doughty (Upper Body) Listed As Day-To-Day

News: Drew Doughty (upper body) is listed as day-to-day according to general manager Rob Blake, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Analysis: Drew Doughty isn't currently participating in training camp due to an upper-body injury that he suffered while training in the offseason. Considering that the Kings don't kick off their season until Oct. 8, Doughty's chance of playing in the opener increased with this news.

Kings' Doughty Out For Start Of Camp

News: Drew Doughty (upper body) suffered an injury during the off season and will be held out to begin training camp, Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider reports.
Analysis: It's currently unclear as to how serious the injury is, however the report states he did skate some Wednesday, so it's likely not serious. Drew Doughty's status for the season opener will depend on when he can participate in training camp.

Doughty Back On Scoresheet In Kings' Win

News: Drew Doughty notched a primary assist on Marian Gaborik's game-tying, power-play goal in the third period of Friday's Cup-clinching Game 5 double-overtime win over the Rangers. He played 41:21 in the game, leading his team in ice time.
Analysis: Drew Doughty had just one point in the previous four games of the series, a beauty of a goal in Game 1, but he got on the board when it mattered. Doughty has further cemented his reputation this postseason as one of the league's preeminent two-way defenders and has already won two Stanley Cups as a 24-year old. He won't put up the gaudy statistics of an Erik Karlsson or P.K. Subban, but Doughty remains a prototype amongst defenders and will have more than his fair share of Norris Trophies by the time his career ends. Unless your league counts average-time-on-ice as a statistic, there are a handful of other, albeit less adept defenders, who will put up larger statistics than the Kings' leader. However, few are better on the ice than Doughty.

Doughty Busy In Kings' Loss

News: Drew Doughty scored a goal and assisted on another in Friday's 4-3 Game 6 loss to Chicago in the Western Conference finals, giving him six points in the last four games.
Analysis: Los Angeles is faced with a Game 7 after losing the last two tilts and its 3-1 series deficit, but Drew Doughty has been doing his part with a goal in three of the last four games, including nine shots on goal in Wednesday's Game 5 loss, logging 39:04 in the overtime contest.

Kings' Doughty Active In Game 5 Loss

News: Drew Doughty logged a game-high 39:04 TOI and nine shots on goal in Wednesday's Game 5 loss to the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Though Drew Doughty didn't register any points in the Kings' 5-4 defeat, he was perhaps the most important contributor of any defenseman in the game. In addition to the nine shots, Doughty also supplied two hits, four blocks, and two penalty minutes while finishing with a plus-2 rating.

Kings' Doughty Picking Up Scoring Pace

News: Drew Doughty picked a goal and as assist in Monday's 5-2 win over Chicago.
Analysis: Drew Doughty now has back-to-back two-point efforts and six points in his last five games as the Kings move one step closer to a spot in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Kings' Doughty Starting To Show Offensive Side

News: Drew Doughty scored a goal and added an assist in Saturday's win over Chicago. He has two goals and 10 assists in 17 games this postseason.
Analysis: Four of his 12 points have come in the last four games, so perhaps fantasy owners will be rewarded with an injection of offense.

Kings' Doughty Runs Hot In Series Comeback

News: Drew Doughty potted his first goal of the postseason in Wednesday's Game 7 win over the Sharks.
Analysis: Drew Doughty's power-play tally quickly dug the Kings out of the 1-0 hole they found themselves in early in the second period, with strong goalie play from Jonathan Quick and a third-period offensive surge carrying the team to the second round. The defenseman was magnificent in the seven-game series, tallying seven points in total to finish with a plus-2 rating.

Kings' Doughty Nets Two Assists In Loss

News: Drew Doughty picked up a pair of power-play assists Tuesday, but it wasn't enough in a 4-3 loss to the Sharks.
Analysis: Drew Doughty was held out of action at the end of the regular season with an upper-body injury, but has picked up three assists in three games so far in the opening-round series. However, he and the Kings face a 3-0 series deficit.

Kings' Doughty Good To Go Wednesday

News: Drew Doughty (upper body) is practicing fully and has declared himself ready to play Wednesday against the Sharks, LAKingsInsider.com's Jon Rosen reports. "I know I'm good to go," Doughty said. "I don't need [battle drills] to test my strength or anything like that."
Analysis: With coach Darryl Sutter echoing Drew Doughty's sentiments in declaring his team "a hundred percent" healthy, it's safe to assume the defenseman will be available for his usual minutes in Game 1. He last played Apr. 3 after suffering an upper-body injury in a game against the Sharks, of all teams. Doughty finished the 2013-14 season with 10 goals, 27 assists and a plus-18 rating over 78 games.

Kings' Doughty Could Return Saturday

News: Drew Doughty (upper body) could return for Saturday's game against the Ducks, NHL.com's Curtis Zupke reports.
Analysis: Drew Doughty has missed the last three games, but there is a chance he could return for the Kings' season finale Saturday. A decision on whether or not he plays will ultimately be made by head coach Darryl Sutter.

Kings' Doughty Iffy For Wednesday

News: Drew Doughty (upper body) remained on the ice for extra work Wednesday, suggesting that he'll likely sit out the team's evening tilt against the Flames, Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider reports.
Analysis: We'll await confirmation of Drew Doughty's Wednesday status, but with the playoffs around the corner, it wouldn't surprise us if the Kings played it safe with the blueliner, with the postseason in mind.

Kings' Doughty Travels But Return Uncertain

News: Drew Doughty (upper body) is traveling with the team, but his status for Wednesday's game is still uncertain, LA Kings Insider reports.
Analysis: The Kings play on back-to-back nights starting Wednesday, but Drew Doughty's status remains uncertain. The Kings have very little to play for in the final three games of the regular season, so don't be alarmed if Doughty is kept on the shelf until the playoffs as a precaution.

Kings' Doughty Practices Lightly

News: Drew Doughty (upper body) didn't participate fully in Monday's practice, NHL.com's Curtis Zupke reports.
Analysis: The Kings haven't commented on Drew Doughty's status for the remaining three regular-season games, but it wouldn't be surprise if he sat out, as the team's playoff spot in the Western Conference is more or less solidified. Doughty will be reassessed during Wednesday's morning skate before the team determines whether he can play later that night against the Flames.

Doughty Sits In Kings' Loss

News: Drew Doughty (upper body) did not play Saturday, but remains day-to-day, reports LA Kings Insider.
Analysis: The Kings don't play again until Wednesday, so it wasn't surprising to see them rest Drew Doughty for another game to make sure he's healthy. Look for them to be cautious with Doughty, with an eye toward having him ready for the playoffs.

Kings' Doughty Doesn't Skate Saturday Morning

News: Drew Doughty (upper body) did not take part in Saturday's morning skate, Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider reports.
Analysis: Drew Doughty hasn't officially been ruled out for Saturday's game, but he's not a good bet to play. While his injury isn't thought to be particularly serious, the Kings have minimal incentive to rush their best blueliner back.

Kings' Doughty Uncertain For Saturday

News: Drew Doughty (upper body) didn't practice Friday but has not been ruled out for Saturday's game, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Analysis: It would seem unlikely that Drew Doughty is able to lace up the skates Saturday given that the Kings have already clinched a playoff spot, but he's still traveling with the team. Consider him day-to-day but don't be alarmed if the Kings decide to take extra caution here.

Kings' Doughty Likely Avoids Major Injury

News: Kings coach Daryl Sutter said Friday that Drew Doughty's upper-body injury is not serious, Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider reports.
Analysis: Sutter's comment is encouraging, but it sounds like the team is still gathering information, as LA Kings Insider's Jon Rosen said the Kings are "guardedly optimistic" that the injury will not be long-term. The star defenseman apparently did not see a doctor Friday, and while the early signs are encouraging, the Kings are essentially locked into the No. 6 seed and thus have no reason to rush Drew Doughty back.
