Gerbe Tallies Two Helpers For 'Canes

News: Nathan Gerbe grabbed a pair of assists Thursday against Toronto, ending a seven-game scoreless skid.
Analysis: Hey, he's alive again! Nathan Gerbe continues to be a victim of ill fortune, as he's fired off 86 shots, but scored just three goals -- a shooting percentage of 3.5 percent, which is the lowest of his career since he broke into the league on a full-time basis.

Canes' Gerbe Nets Winner Against Pens

News: Nathan Gerbe scored a third-period power-play goal that proved to be the game winner Friday against the Penguins.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe now has nine points on the season to date, including four points on the power play. He's currently on pace for roughly 40 points, which would be a career-high for the 27-year-old left winger. Feel free to utlize him as needed in medium to deeper formats.

Canes' Gerbe Contributes In Win Over Stars

News: Nathan Gerbe added an assist - his sixth point of the season - during Tuesday's 6-4 win over Dallas.
Analysis: After matching his career-high 31 points last year, Nathan Gerbe was promoted to the second line this season alongside Riley Nash and Chris Terry, but his output for the season to date has left a little to be desired. Despite seeing over 17 minutes of ice time per night, including almost three minutes on the power play, Gerbe is still on track for only 30-35 points, which is far less than most second-line left wingers should register. Gerbe has modest fantasy value in medium to deeper leagues but not much else - use him only if your options are severely limited.

Carolina's Gerbe Playing Well Since Return

News: Nathan Gerbe has two assists over his two games since returning from a lower-body injury Saturday.
Analysis: Though Nathan Gerbe hasn't been the primary cause for the Hurricanes winning their first two games of the season, his return has clearly given the offense a much-needed list. In addition to setting up the two tallies, Gerbe has fired off 11 shots on goal over the two contests. It will probably be tough for him to do much better than the 31 points he compiled in 2013-14, but he should prove capable as a depth scorer this season for Carolina.

Carolina's Gerbe Will Play Saturday

News: Nathan Gerbe (lower body) will be in the lineup Saturday against the Coyotes.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe resumed taking contact in practice earlier this week and looks like he'll be available in full capacity for both ends of the Hurricanes' weekend back-to-back. He's set to play on the second line with Riley Nash and Elias Lindholm.

Carolina's Gerbe Expected Back Over Weekend

News: Nathan Gerbe (lower body) is expected to return to the lineup for one or both of the Hurricanes' games over the weekend.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe began taking contact a couple of days ago and looks on track to get in enough practice time to be an option as early as Saturday against the Coyotes. Gerbe hasn't played since Oct. 16 due to the lower-body injury, but since the Hurricanes never placed him on injured reserve, the team won't need to send a player to the minors to create room for his return.

Carolina's Gerbe Cleared To Take Contact

News: Nathan Gerbe (lower body) has received clearance to take full contact.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe appears to be narrowing in on a return to action for the Hurricanes, though he'll be forced out of his fourth straight contest Tuesday against the Canucks. If he practices without any complications over the next few days, he should be available for the Hurricanes in their next game Saturday against the Coyotes.

Gerbe (Lower Body) Practiced Thursday

News: Nathan Gerbe skated Thursday in a no-contact jersey, Michael Smith of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: This is the first time Nathan Gerbe has skated at all since suffering the injury the previous Thursday. He is still considered day-to-day, however it appears doubtful that Gerbe will be able to play in either of the Canes' upcoming games Thursday or Friday.

Hurricanes' Gerbe Out Tuesday

News: Nathan Gerbe (lower body) won't return to lineup Tuesday against the Jets.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe hasn't returned to practice since suffering the lower-body injury last week. At this point, he also looks unlikely to return to action for either of the Hurricanes' back-to-back tilts Thursday and Friday.

Gerbe (Lower Body) Not Practicing Sunday

News: Nathan Gerbe (lower body) didn't practice with the team Sunday, Michael Smith of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe was forced out of Thursday's game early with the lower body injury and it held him out of practice again Sunday. He is still considered day-to-day at this point, and with the next game coming Tuesday, his status is still unclear at this point.

Canes' Gerbe Leaves Late With Lower-Body Injury

News: Nathan Gerbe left Thursday's game late with a lower-body injury, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe's injury is unclear beyond the lower body at this point, but it may be updated in the future. The Hurricanes don't play again until Tuesday, so his situation should be cleared up before the team takes the ice next.

Second-Line Role Awaits For Canes' Gerbe

News: Nathan Gerbe is expected to slot in on the Hurricanes' second line to begin the season, NHL.com's Michael Smith reports.
Analysis: With Jeff Skinner out indefinitely with a concussion, Nathan Gerbe will receive the first opportunity to fill some of the offensive void. Though the appointment to a top-six role probably bumps Gerbe's stock upward a bit, don't expect a huge surge in scoring from the 27-year-old. The Hurricanes will be breaking in rookie Victor Rask as the second-line center while Jordan Staal (leg) remains sidelined for the next three-to-four months, so the unit could experience some growing pains in the early going.

Canes' Gerbe Providing Offense In Preseason

News: Nathan Gerbe registered two assists during Wednesday's 6-3 preseason loss to Columbus. He skated primarilyl on the Cane's third line with Zach Boychuk and rookie Victor Rask.
Analysis: Last season, his first with the Hurricanes, Nathan Gerbe matched the career-best 31 points he notched three seasons ago with the Sabres, and also saw his average ice time rise by almost four minutes per game. He also set a new career-high in power-play points with seven, after not seeing any meaningful PP time the previous two seasons in Buffalo. This year, look for Gerbe to fulfill a similar role in the lineup as a third-line energy player who can chip in some offense when needed.

Carolina Re-Signs Gerbe For Two Years

News: Nathan Gerbe re-signed with the Hurricanes on a two-year, $3.5 million contract Tuesday.
Analysis: The 26-year-old set career highs in goals (16) and points (31) last season, appearing in 81 games for the Hurricanes. It represented nice production after he was bought out by the Sabres just a season earlier, and now he'll be counted on to replicate those scoring numbers again in 2014-15, likely as a member of the team's second or third line.

Carolina's Gerbe Likely To Play Friday

News: Nathan Gerbe (upper body) looks like he'll rejoin the lineup Friday against the Red Wings, NHL.com's Brian Hedger reports.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe took part in pregame warmups and looks like he'll only have missed one game due to the upper-body injury. He has 31 points in 79 games this season.

Canes' Gerbe (Upper Body) Out Thursday

News: Nathan Gerbe (upper body) has been ruled out of Thursday's game against the Capitals, the Hurricanes' official website reports.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe missed Wednesday's practice and an upper body ailment will keep him out of Thursday's contest as well. The winger stands a chance of playing Friday versus Detroit, but his fantasy owners will have to monitor his status ahead of game-time.

Canes' Gerbe Questionable For Thursday

News: Nathan Gerbe is questionable for Thursday's matchup with the Capitals, Michael Smith of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe sat out Wednesday's team practice for maintenance, but could end up missing Thursday's game as well. The winger has posted 16 goals and 15 assists through 79 games to date.

Hurricanes' Gerbe Notches Goal Tuesday

News: Nathan Gerbe notched his 16th goal of the season in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe dealt with an illness and was forced to miss Monday's practice, which may explain why he saw less than 15 minutes Tuesday night. He still managed to produce in limited ice time and appears safe to use in lineups during the stretch run.

Hurricanes' Gerbe Takes The Ice

News: Nathan Gerbe (illness) was at Tuesday's morning skate, the Raleigh News & Observer's Chip Alexander reports.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe missed practice Monday, but his presence on the ice Tuesday morning bodes well for his status for the Hurricanes' evening contest against the Islanders.

Hurricanes' Gerbe Misses Practice With Illness

News: Nathan Gerbe missed Monday's practice with an illness.
Analysis: Coach Kirk Muller said after Monday's practice that he still anticipates Nathan Gerbe will be available for Tuesday's game against the Islanders, so it doesn't really sound like there's too much to worry about here.

Hurricanes' Gerbe Ends Goal Drought Saturday

News: Nathan Gerbe scored his 13th goal of the season in Saturday's loss to the Devils.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe hasn't been shy about shooting the puck since the Olympic break (24 attempts in seven games), but it wasn't until Saturday that he finally broke through for a goal. The tally snapped a nine-game goalless skid for the forward.

Gerbe Toiling In Obscurity On Canes' Third Line

News: Nathan Gerbe skated a season-low 11:36 in the Canes' final game before the Olympic break - a 4-1 loss to Montreal.
Analysis: With just six points in his last 14 games, Nathan Gerbe has struggled offensively ever since being bumped from the Canes' second line alongside Jordan Staal and rookie Elias Lindholm. Now on the third line with Manny Malhotra and Patrick Dwyer, the demotion is finally starting to cut into Gerbe's ice time, despite him seeing regular minutes on the team's second power-play unit. Gerbe's production tends to come in fits and starts, which really only gives him value in medium to deeper fantasy formats.

Gerbe Back On Carolina Scoresheet

News: Nathan Gerbe registered his first point in two games, snagging the opening goal in Friday's win over St. Louis.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe has three goals over the last six games and sits with 26 points on the season. He's averaging close to three shots per game.

Canes' Gerbe Notches Goal, Two Assists Saturday

News: Nathan Gerbe recorded his 11th goal of the season and assisted on two others in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Senators.
Analysis: It was precisely the breakthrough performance that was needed for Bowman, who had gathered a lone goal and two assists in his previous 11 games. The three points were a season best for Nathan Gerbe.

Canes' Gerbe Ends Goalless Drought

News: Nathan Gerbe scored his first goal in 10 games during Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Flyers. The goal came on a second-period breakaway as Gerbe used a pretty between-the-legs shot to tuck one past Flyers goalie Steve Mason. "It was just a skilled play," Mason said later. "Give him credit, nice move."
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe's production has come in fits and starts this season, but with 22 points in 49 games, he's still on pace to break his career-high of 31 points from three seasons ago with the Sabres. He continues to see 14-15 minutes per night with a modest amount of second-line power play time thrown in, giving him modest fantasy value in deeper formats.
