Carolina Re-Signs Gerbe For Two Years

News: Nathan Gerbe re-signed with the Hurricanes on a two-year, $3.5 million contract Tuesday.
Analysis: The 26-year-old set career highs in goals (16) and points (31) last season, appearing in 81 games for the Hurricanes. It represented nice production after he was bought out by the Sabres just a season earlier, and now he'll be counted on to replicate those scoring numbers again in 2014-15, likely as a member of the team's second or third line.

Carolina's Gerbe Likely To Play Friday

News: Nathan Gerbe (upper body) looks like he'll rejoin the lineup Friday against the Red Wings, NHL.com's Brian Hedger reports.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe took part in pregame warmups and looks like he'll only have missed one game due to the upper-body injury. He has 31 points in 79 games this season.

Canes' Gerbe (Upper Body) Out Thursday

News: Nathan Gerbe (upper body) has been ruled out of Thursday's game against the Capitals, the Hurricanes' official website reports.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe missed Wednesday's practice and an upper body ailment will keep him out of Thursday's contest as well. The winger stands a chance of playing Friday versus Detroit, but his fantasy owners will have to monitor his status ahead of game-time.

Canes' Gerbe Questionable For Thursday

News: Nathan Gerbe is questionable for Thursday's matchup with the Capitals, Michael Smith of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe sat out Wednesday's team practice for maintenance, but could end up missing Thursday's game as well. The winger has posted 16 goals and 15 assists through 79 games to date.

Hurricanes' Gerbe Notches Goal Tuesday

News: Nathan Gerbe notched his 16th goal of the season in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe dealt with an illness and was forced to miss Monday's practice, which may explain why he saw less than 15 minutes Tuesday night. He still managed to produce in limited ice time and appears safe to use in lineups during the stretch run.

Hurricanes' Gerbe Takes The Ice

News: Nathan Gerbe (illness) was at Tuesday's morning skate, the Raleigh News & Observer's Chip Alexander reports.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe missed practice Monday, but his presence on the ice Tuesday morning bodes well for his status for the Hurricanes' evening contest against the Islanders.

Hurricanes' Gerbe Misses Practice With Illness

News: Nathan Gerbe missed Monday's practice with an illness.
Analysis: Coach Kirk Muller said after Monday's practice that he still anticipates Nathan Gerbe will be available for Tuesday's game against the Islanders, so it doesn't really sound like there's too much to worry about here.

Hurricanes' Gerbe Ends Goal Drought Saturday

News: Nathan Gerbe scored his 13th goal of the season in Saturday's loss to the Devils.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe hasn't been shy about shooting the puck since the Olympic break (24 attempts in seven games), but it wasn't until Saturday that he finally broke through for a goal. The tally snapped a nine-game goalless skid for the forward.

Gerbe Toiling In Obscurity On Canes' Third Line

News: Nathan Gerbe skated a season-low 11:36 in the Canes' final game before the Olympic break - a 4-1 loss to Montreal.
Analysis: With just six points in his last 14 games, Nathan Gerbe has struggled offensively ever since being bumped from the Canes' second line alongside Jordan Staal and rookie Elias Lindholm. Now on the third line with Manny Malhotra and Patrick Dwyer, the demotion is finally starting to cut into Gerbe's ice time, despite him seeing regular minutes on the team's second power-play unit. Gerbe's production tends to come in fits and starts, which really only gives him value in medium to deeper fantasy formats.

Gerbe Back On Carolina Scoresheet

News: Nathan Gerbe registered his first point in two games, snagging the opening goal in Friday's win over St. Louis.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe has three goals over the last six games and sits with 26 points on the season. He's averaging close to three shots per game.

Canes' Gerbe Notches Goal, Two Assists Saturday

News: Nathan Gerbe recorded his 11th goal of the season and assisted on two others in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Senators.
Analysis: It was precisely the breakthrough performance that was needed for Bowman, who had gathered a lone goal and two assists in his previous 11 games. The three points were a season best for Nathan Gerbe.

Canes' Gerbe Ends Goalless Drought

News: Nathan Gerbe scored his first goal in 10 games during Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Flyers. The goal came on a second-period breakaway as Gerbe used a pretty between-the-legs shot to tuck one past Flyers goalie Steve Mason. "It was just a skilled play," Mason said later. "Give him credit, nice move."
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe's production has come in fits and starts this season, but with 22 points in 49 games, he's still on pace to break his career-high of 31 points from three seasons ago with the Sabres. He continues to see 14-15 minutes per night with a modest amount of second-line power play time thrown in, giving him modest fantasy value in deeper formats.

Gerbe Tallies Two In Hurricanes' Loss

News: Nathan Gerbe tallied a goal and assist in Friday's overtime loss to the Penguins.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe's goal appeared to be a momentum-changer for the Hurricanes for at least a little while, as his second-period score came just 14 seconds after Sidney Crosby's equalizer to give Carolina the lead back. Alas, the Penguins stormed back to win the game, but Gerbe ended up finishing as the game's second star. The 26-year-old appears on pace to set career-best marks in goals and assists in his sixth NHL season.

Gerbe Posts Assist In Win Over Sharks

News: Nathan Gerbe recorded an assist during Friday's 5-3 win over the Sharks, just his second point in his last 10 games.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe is still averaging a healthy 17:38 per game for the season to date, skating on the Canes' second line alongside Jordan Staal and rookie Elias Lindholm. However with just 12 points in 30 games thus far, his fantasy value is limited to very deep formats only.

Hurricanes' Gerbe Snaps Skid

News: Nathan Gerbe picked up a pair of assists and went plus-2 in Tuesday's win over the Avs, snapping a five-game slide without a point.
Analysis: The undersized winger has always had offensive promise, but never delivered on it consistently, and it's been no different this year. He's only ownable in deep formats.

Canes' Gerbe Scores In Loss To Pens

News: Nathan Gerbe scored his team's only goal in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Penguins, giving him seven points through 12 games so far this season. He also skated a season-high 22:29 and fired five shots on goal.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe has been one of the few pleasant surprises in Raleigh so far this season. His average ice time of 18:37 is a full six minutes higher than last season, and he's seeing about two extra minutes on the power play as well. At his current pace, he should easily eclipse his previous career best of 31 points with the Sabres in 2010-11. He makes for an excellent value pickup in deeper fantasy formats.

Canes' Gerbe Expected To Practice Wednesday

News: Nathan Gerbe (head) is expected to return to practice Wednesday, the Raleigh News & Observer's Chip Alexander reports.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe has sat out the last two days of practice after taking a hit to the head Saturday against the Islanders, but the Hurricanes don't seem to be concerned that he's dealing with any sort of concussion. The two days off should be viewed as maintenance days more than anything, and the expectation is that he'll suit up Thursday against the Wild.

Canes' Gerbe Misses Practice Following Head Shot Saturday

News: Nathan Gerbe took a maintenance day Monday, but is expected to return to practice Tuesday, according to the Raleigh News & Observer.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe took a hit to the head Saturday from the Islanders' Michael Grabner, but wound up finishing the game. At this point, it sounds like his absence from practice is more precautionary than anything. The good news is, the Hurricanes' next game isn't until Thursday, so Gerbe still has a few days to shake off any lingering effects from the hit. Check back prior to game time to confirm his status.

Gerbe Scoers Game-Winning Goal Thursday

News: Nathan Gerbe scored his third goal of the season in Thursday's win over the Capitals.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe fought hard for position and wristed a shot past a sprawled-out Capitals defenseman to supply what proved to be the game-winning goal with less than seven minutes left in the third period. His three goals rank first on the team.

Gerbe Scores For 'Canes In Loss

News: Nathan Gerbe scored a power-play goal -- his first of the season -- during the first period of Friday's 3-2 OT loss to the Red Wings.
Analysis: It's important to note that Nathan Gerbe's ice time was a whopping 20:16 during this game, including 2:37 with the man advantage. While we don't expect him to see that kind of ice every night, even if it's scaled back somewhat, he would still far exceed last year's usage. The bottom line is that Gerbe's seeing an increased workload playing on the Hurricanes' second line with Jordan Staal and Patrick Dwyer, so fantasy owners should take advantage while it lasts.

Canes' Gerbe Gets Promoted To Scoring Line

News: Nathan Gerbe could open the regular season on the second line alongside Jordan Staal and Patrick Dwyer, according to the Raleigh News & Observer.
Analysis: Originally slotted as a checking-line forward to start the season, injuries to Tuomo Ruutu, Alexander Semin, Jeff Skinner and Elias Lindholm have prompted coach Kirk Muller to juggle his line combinations, and in response, Nathan Gerbe went out and scored two goals in a win over the Blue Jackets on Thursday. Bottom line, we still think Gerbe will wind up with third-line duties once his injured teammates return to the lineup, but his temporary promotion is something fantasy owners can try and exploit in the meantime.

Hurricanes' Gerbe Drives Offense Thursday

News: Nathan Gerbe scored the game-tying goal in the second period and the game-winner in the final minute of the third as the 'Canes came back on the Jackets on Thursday for a 2-1 victory.
Analysis: He's looked more active in these last two preseason games, scoring three goals on nine shots. It looks like Nathan Gerbe will make the Carolina roster, but it's hard to expect a lot, as he managed just 35 points in 104 games over the last two seasons. Perhaps, though, he'll benefit from a change of scenery, having spent his whole career up 'til now in Buffalo.

Hurricanes Add Gerbe

News: Nathan Gerbe agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with Carolina on Friday.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe logged a lot of NHL time with Buffalo over the last three years, including two straight seasons with over 60 appearances. After totaling 56 points between 2010 and 2011, though, Gerbe posted just 10 points in 42 games last year.

Sabres Waive Gerbe

News: The Sabres have reportedly placed Nathan Gerbe on buyout waivers, wgr550.com reports.
Analysis: Nathan Gerbe is coming off a season that saw him record 10 points in 42 games and assuming the report is accurate, once he clears waivers the Sabres plan to buy him out.

Sabres' Gerbe Contributes Offensively Sunday

News: Nathan Gerbe had an assist and fired the shootout winner in Sunday's victory over New Jersey.
Analysis: The assist snapped a four game scoreless streak for Nathan Gerbe, who has eight points in 33 games this season. He's good for the odd offensive outburst, but they're too few and far between to make him much of a fantasy factor in Buffalo.
