Detroit Places Porter On Waivers

News: Detroit waived Kevin Porter on Sunday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Analysis: Kevin Porter has split time between the AHL and NHL the past two season with Buffalo and AHL Rochester. Last season he played in 12 games for the Sabres where he managed only one assist. If another team does not claim him, Porter will report to AHL Grand Rapids. Porter will have a low fantasy impact this year, even if he does get called up to the NHL at some point.

Red Wings Sign Porter To One-Way Contract

News: Kevin Porter signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Red Wings on Tuesday, Brendan Savage of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Kevin Porter split last season between the Sabres and AHL Rochester, logging only 12 games at the forward. Provided the Red Wings don't again suffer the rash of injuries at forward that befell them last season, Porter will be looking at another campaign with the bulk of his duties coming at the minor-league level.

Sabres' Porter Reassigned To Rochester

News: Kevin Porter (leg) was reassigned to AHL Rochester on Wednesday, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: Kevin Porter had been on injured reserve with a leg injury since Dec. 23 and will now look to get his conditioning up to par in the minors. Even after he demonstrates he's back to full health, there's no guarantee he'll earn a trip back to Buffalo after totaling one point in 12 games with the parent club this season.

Sabres' Porter Out Of No-Contact Jersey

News: Kevin Porter (leg) practiced with contact Monday morning, reports Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald.
Analysis: Kevin Porter won't return Tuesday, but the lack of a non-contact jersey indicates that he's getting closer and closer to returning. Porter suffered the injury against Boston in late December and has totaled one assist in 12 games with the Sabres this year. The Michigan product has limited fantasy value, but the Sabres are looking forward to getting him back in the lineup.

Sabres' Porter Needs More Time

News: Kevin Porter (leg) skated in a red (non-contact) jerseys with the Sabres on Friday, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Kevin Porter, who has been out since Dec. 23, is still at least a week away from playing, according to coach Ted Nolan.

Sabres' Porter Expected To Miss At Least Another Week

News: Kevin Porter (leg) is expected to miss at least another week.
Analysis: A leg injury forced Kevin Porter onto IR early in the week, and he will not be ready to return when first eligible. He'll look to heal up and return to his depth wing role with Buffalo early in January.

Sabres Move Porter To IR

News: Kevin Porter (leg) was placed on injured reserve Monday, Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: The Sabres haven't provided a timetable for Kevin Porter's return, but it sounds like he could miss multiple weeks after suffering the injury in a loss to the Bruins on Saturday. Johan Larsson was recalled from AHL Rochester in a corresponding move.

Sabres' Porter Suffers Leg Injury

News: Kevin Porter suffered a leg injury during Saturday's loss to Boston and is expected to miss some time, according to The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Kevin Porter only has one point in 12 NHL games this season, but his loss will be a little more painful with fellow forward Cody Hodgson also expected to miss some time. Porter suffered the injury on a hit from the Bruins' Johnny Boychuk.

Sabres Recall Porter

News: Kevin Porter has been recalled by the Sabres.
Analysis: He'll replace Luke Adam on the roster, as Adam was sent down to Rochester in a corresponding move. It's uncertain whether Kevin Porter will see anything more than a depth role upon his return to Buffalo, but his past history suggests that is the most likely landing spot.

News: Kevin Porter cleared waivers Friday, John Vogl of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: He'll report to AHL Rochester after going scoreless in nine games with the Sabres.

Sabres Waive Porter

News: Kevin Porter has been waived by the Sabres, according to John Vogl of The Buffalo News.
Analysis: As a fringe player with no points and a minus-6 rating, there's not much case to be made in keeping Kevin Porter with the big club right now. If Porter goes unclaimed, he's expected to go to AHL Rochester.

Sabres' Porter Lights The Lamp

News: Kevin Porter scored a goal, his fourth of the season, against the Lightning on Sunday.
Analysis: Kevin Porter only has nine points in 26 games this season, but he's tallied a point in four straight games, and he's a plus-4 in those games as well.

Sabres' Porter Gets Another Point

News: Kevin Porter picked up his fifth assist of the season in Saturday's 1-0 win over the Flyers.
Analysis: Kevin Porter, who managed all of two points in his first 19 games, now has three goals and three assists in six games since the beginning of April. His history suggests that the recent production is just an aberration, but fantasy owners looking to pick up a hot player could do worse.

Sabres' Porter Hits Scoresheet In Losing Effort

News: Kevin Porter scored the Sabres' lone goal in a 4-1 loss to Winnipeg on Tuesday.
Analysis: After starting the season with two points in the first 19 games, Kevin Porter has four points in his last four games. It's a nice little streak, but nothing we've seen from the Michigan native makes us expect it to continue much longer.

Sabres' Porter Scores First Two Of Season

News: Kevin Porter scored his first and second goals of the year Tuesday in a win over Pittsburgh.
Analysis: He hadn't found twine in more than a year, dating back to March 12, 2012, as a member of the Avs. Despite this outburst, Kevin Porter's a fringy depth forward who shouldn't be owned in the vast majority of leagues.

Sabres Recall Porter From AHL Rochester

News: The Sabres recalled Kevin Porter from AHL Rochester on Wednesday, Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Kevin Porter will look to provide the Sabres with some offense after a disappointing season with the Avalanche in 2011-12, in which he notched only seven points in 35 games. However, the center has been effective in the AHL this season, registering 15 goals and 29 assists in 48 games for the Americans.

Sabres Recruit Porter To Fill Center Void

News: Kevin Porter has signed as a free agent with the Sabres, according to The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Like new teammate Nathan Gerbe, Kevin Porter was an absolute star at a U.S. college (Porter won the Hobey Baker Award in 2008) but has had that translate even less to the pro game so far than the up-and-down Gerbe. Maybe the Sabres see something, or maybe they're just getting desperate with the offseason market proving fruitless for a lot of clubs so far. Porter had just seven points in 35 games for the Avalanche last season, but if he can play a good two-way game and score a bit, there's a home for him on Lindy Ruff's squad on a bottom line, as the team is really thin up the middle. With Terry Pegula and his deep pockets as owner, we keep waiting for the bigger move now that Derek Roy has been dealt.

Rare Game Action Saturday For Avs' Porter

News: After nine straight games as a healthy scratch, Kevin Porter skated 8:37 in Saturday's 3-2 shootout win over Edmonton, and even posted an assist, his sixth point of the season.
Analysis: While it's good to see him hit the scoresheet, Kevin Porter still plays far too infrequently to be relied upon in any significant way for fantasy purposes.

Avs' Porter Watching From Press Box

News: Kevin Porter sat out as a healthy scratch Wednesday against Los Angeles.
Analysis: With just five points in 32 games this season, this should come as no surprise. Kevin Porter is also averaging just 9:13 worth of ice time, compared to almost 14 minutes per game last season. With the recent arrival of Steve Downie from Tampa Bay and the callup of Mark Olver, there is simply no room for Porter in the lineup right now. You could see him heading back to the AHL at some point.

Rare Opportunity For Avs' Porter

News: Kevin Porter will play in place of David Jones (healthy scratch) for Thursday's game against Minnesota, according to the Denver Post.
Analysis: Kevin Porter has spent much of this season watching from the bench, and unless he takes this opportunity and has an immediate impact, it's hard not to foresee him heading back there at some point. Do not waste any of your fantasy capital on this guy.

Avs' Porter Watching From The Bench

News: Kevin Porter has played in just 27 games this season, boasting just five points (3G, 2A) while averaging under 10 minutes of ice time per game.
Analysis: Kevin Porter has frequently been a healthy scratch this season, including in the four games leading up to the All-Star break. He's really just a depth forward at this stage of his career and doesn't play enough to warrant much fantasy consideration in most standard formats.

Avs' Porter Returns To Lineup Monday

News: Kevin Porter will play Monday against the Flyers, according to The Denver Post.
Analysis: This will be Kevin Porter's first game following a four-game suspension for his knee-on-knee hit on David Booth earlier this month. He was technically available to play Saturday against Washington but wound up sitting out as a healthy scratch. Against Philly, Porter will be taking the place of David van der Gulik, who is out of the lineup for personal reasons.

Avs Porter Back From Suspension

News: Kevin Porter (suspension) is questionable for Saturday's game against Washington, according to The Denver Post.
Analysis: Although technically available to play, it's not clear whether Kevin Porter will get the nod from Avs coach Joe Sacco to suit up against the Caps. Porter is coming off a four-game suspension for a knee-on-knee hit on the Canucks' David Booth last week. For fantasy purposes, wait until he's played a game or two before reactivating him.

Avs' Porter Suspended Four Games

News: Kevin Porter has been handed a four-game suspension for his knee-on-knee hit with the Canucks' David Booth on Tuesday, according to The Denver Post.
Analysis: As a result, Kevin Porter will miss Thursday's game against the Flames. He will be eligible to return next Saturday against Washington. With just one goal in 14 games and a plus-minus rating of -5, Porter's fantasy appeal is limited to very deep formats.

Avs' Porter Tossed Following Kneeing Incident

News: Kevin Porter was ejected from Tuesday's game against Vancouver following a knee-on-knee collision with David Booth, according to The Denver Post.
Analysis: The Canucks accused Kevin Porter of intentionally trying to injure Booth, who required help off the ice and did not return to the game. There was no immediate word on whether Porter sustained any injury himself. It also remains to be seen whether he will face any disciplinary action from the league. Stay tuned.
