Canes' Bellemore Helps Out In Losing Effort

News: Brett Bellemore dished out two assists and went plus-1 in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Stars.
Analysis: His ice time fell back off to 17:12 from Tuesday's season-high minutes, but Brett Bellemore snapped a four-game stretch without a point. With just eight points in 38 games on the year, though, there's not much to be found here from a fantasy perspective unless your league counts hits.

Canes' Bellemore Seeing More Ice Time

News: Brett Bellemore skated a season-high 21:23 in Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jackets. He finished the game with zero points but had six hits.
Analysis: Brett Bellemore is seeing an increased workload now that Tim Gleason and Andrej Sekera (traded to the Capitals and Kings, respectively) are no longer patrolling the Canes' blue line. That said, with just six points in 37 games so far this season, Bellemore's offensive output will be lucky to hit double digits by season's end; accordingly, he has fantasy value in ultra-deep formats only.

Canes' Bellemore Pots First Goal Of Season

News: Brett Bellemore scored his first goal of the season and collected five PIM in Friday's win over Washington.
Analysis: Brett Bellemore now has six points and a plus-3 rating in 33 games on the season. Considering the defenseman averages just 15:32 of ice time and has only recorded 16 shots on goal, Bellmore is only valuable in the deepest of fantasy leagues.

Canes' Bellemore Will Play Friday

News: Brett Bellemore (illness) was on the ice for pregame warmups and appears set to play Friday against the Capitals, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Brett Bellemore was a game-time decision after missing the Canes' morning skate with the illness, but he made enough progress in the afternoon for the team to feel comfortable using him. Few fantasy players were likely awaiting an announcement on Bellemore's status with much anxiousness, as the blueliner has produced no goals and five assists over 32 games this season.

Canes' Bellemore Dealing With Minor Illness

News: Brett Bellemore is dealing with a minor illness, but he should still be able to play in Friday's game against the Capitals.
Analysis: Hurricanes coach Bill Peters said he expects Brett Bellemore and Eric Staal (illness) to play in Friday's game, even though both players missed morning skate.

Canes' Bellemore Registers Assist In Win

News: Brett Bellemore notched an assist in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Lightning.
Analysis: The 26-year-old Brett Bellemore routinely shuffles out of the lineup as a healthy scratch periodically and often sees fewer than 18 minutes when he plays, making it difficult to extract much value out of him. Tuesday's assist was his fourth point in 25 games this season.

Hurricanes Activate Bellemore

News: Brett Bellemore (lower body) was activated from injured reserve Thursday.
Analysis: Brett Bellemore missed the previous seven games with the injury, but has been skating for the last week. The Hurricanes appear content to ease him back into action, as he'll serve as a healthy scratch for Thursday's game against the Lightning.

Canes' Bellemore Skates Thursday

News: Brett Bellemore (lower body) joined the Hurricanes on the ice for Thursday's morning skate.
Analysis: Brett Bellemore remains on injured reserve and was still wearing a non-contact jersey during the session, so he doesn't seem to be zeroing in on a return. The blueliner will miss his fifth consecutive game Thursday, and, quite likely, a handful more.

Hurricanes' Bellemore Lands On Injured Reserve

News: The Hurricanes placed Brett Bellemore (lower body) on injured reserve Tuesday.
Analysis: Brett Bellemore is expected to miss at least a week with his lower body injury, so the Hurricanes placed him on injured reserve to open a roster spot. Michal Jordan was recalled from AHL Charlotte to take Bellemore's spot on the roster.

Canes' Bellemore Out 7-10 Days

News: Brett Bellemore (lower body) is expected to miss the next seven-to-10 days, Michael Smith of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Brett Bellemore left Saturday's game against the Avalanche after a hard run-in with the boards, but was thought to be just a little banged up. His injury is still not expected to be too serious, but the 'Canes will need to find a replacement on the blue line for the time being.

Canes' Bellemore Misses Practice

News: Brett Bellemore (undisclosed) did not practice Monday, Michael Smith of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: The blueliner left Saturday's game against the Avalanche after being checked hard into the boards and did not return. The 'Canes don't play again until Wednesday against the Panthers, and there's a decent chance Brett Bellemore will be ready to go for that game.

Canes' Bellemore Suffers Injury Saturday

News: Brett Bellemore left Saturday's game in the first period after he was checked into the boards and didn't return, the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: At the very least, it sounds like Brett Bellemore is experiencing some body soreness, if not something more severe. The Hurricanes figure to provide an update on his condition once they resume practicing, putting his status for Wednesday's game against the Panthers in question for the time being.

Hurricanes' Bellemore Expected To Play

News: Brett Bellemore (upper body) is expected to play Saturday against the Bruins.
Analysis: Brett Bellemore has been practicing since Tuesday, so he might have been held out of the Hurricanes' most recent game Wednesday as a healthy scratch. With Jay Harrison (lower body) now ailing, Bellemore will receive the opportunity to slot back in on the Hurricanes' blue line. Bellemore has two points, 12 penalty minutes and a minus-1 rating over eight games this season.

Carolina's Bellemore Practices Tuesday

News: Brett Bellemore (upper body) returned to practice Tuesday, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: The defenseman's participation in practice offers a good deal of hope that he'll be an option for Thursday's lineup, should coach Bill Peters choose to go with him. The defenseman has compiled two points and 12 penalty minutes over eight games this season.

Hurricanes' Bellemore (Upper Body) Out Monday

News: Brett Bellemore (upper body) will not play Monday against the Flames, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: There is still no word on the severity of Brett Bellemore's upper body injury, but it's obviously serious enough for him to stay sidelined Monday. His next opportunity to take the ice will be Thursday against the Jets.

Canes' Bellemore Injured

News: Brett Bellemore is dealing with an upper body injury, Michael Smith of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: There's no word yet on how Brett Bellemore suffered the injury or how serious it is, so consider his day-to-day at this point.

Canes' Bellemore Makes Debut Against Rangers

News: After sitting out the Canes' first three games as a healthy scratch, Brett Bellemore finally joined the lineup for Thursday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Rangers. He did not record a point, but registered a couple of penalty minutes, two hits and two blocked shots in 18:16 of ice time.
Analysis: With blue-line regulars Andrej Sekera (upper-body) and John-Michael Liles (general soreness) both on the shelf with injuries, the Canes finally turned to Brett Bellemore to help plug the holes in the lineup. This will most certainly not last, of course, as once the team's walking wounded return to action, Bellemore will find himself back on the bench. The young defenseman's fantasy value will continue to hover dangerously close to zero, even in the deepest of formats. Use him only when desperate.

Hurricanes Sign Bellemore To One-Year Deal

News: Brett Bellemore agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with the Hurricanes on Friday, the Hurricanes' Official Site reports.
Analysis: Brett Bellemore played in 64 games for the Hurricanes last season as it was the first time that he spent the entire year in the NHL. He has been able to contribute two goals and eight assists over the stretch of his two-year tenure with Carolina. The defenseman stands to improve on those numbers since he's slowly but surely gaining professional experience.

Canes' Bellemore Assists In Win Over Panthers

News: Brett Bellemore posted an assist in Thursday's win over Florida, giving him points in two consecutive games.
Analysis: It's interesting to note that Brett Bellemore's mini-scoring binge comes immediately following Saturday's 3-2 win over Winnipeg, in which he skated just 5:19 and did not see any ice time past the 9:38 mark of the second period. Since there have been no reports of any injury, we can only assume this was a benching of some sort, so it's nice to see Bellemore rebound with a pair of helpers in the next two games. Enjoy the scoring burst if you own him, but it's not likely to last long.

Canes' Bellemore Off Bench, Back In Lineup

News: Brett Bellemore has averaged 15 minutes of ice time the past two games after sitting the previous nine contests as a healthy scratch.
Analysis: Brett Bellemore and Mike Komisarek have been trading off as the Canes' extra defenseman this season, with each guy taking turns riding the pine. It's nice to see him back in the lineup, but who knows how long that will last? Bellemore is a big, (6-foot-4, 205) stay-at-home defenseman who is more of a hitter and shot blocker than a scorer. Use accordingly, but only if you're in an ultra-deep fantasy format that allows lineup switches on those nights when he's not playing.

Canes’ Bellemore Assists In Win Over Habs

News: Brett Bellemore collected his third point of the season -– an assist -– during Monday's 5-4 OT win over the Canadiens.
Analysis: Brett Bellemore is currently skating on the Canes' second defensive pairing with Ron Hainsey, but it will be interesting to see where he slots in once the recently acquired John-Michael Liles arrives. Bellemore is currently second on the team in hits (96) and fourth in blocked shots (43), but doesn't score enough to make him valuable outside of deep leagues that count these secondary stat categories.

Hurricanes' Bellemore Back In Lineup Friday

News: Brett Bellemore (concussion) will be back in the lineup Friday vs. the Capitals, Katie Carrera of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Brett Bellemore may be tempted to exact some measure of revenge Friday, as it was Caps defenseman Tom Wilson that concussed Bellemore on a hit in a Dec. 3 matchup between the two teams, keeping him out for six games. Now healthy, Bellemore will reenter the lineup on the third pairing with Ron Hainsey.

Canes' Bellemore (Concussion) Returns To Practice

News: Brett Bellemore (concussion) was back at practice Tuesday, the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: It's only been about two weeks since he was diagnosed, so the fact that Brett Bellemore is back on the ice this soon is a very good sign. However, there is still no word on when he will see any game action, so consider him out indefinitely for the time being.

Canes' Bellemore Diagnosed With Concussion

News: Brett Bellemore has been diagnosed with a concussion, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: The Canes sent Brett Bellemore home Wednesday after he reported some neck stiffness, and it turns out the 25-year-old is concussed. He obviously won't play Thursday in Nashville, and his status for Friday looks doubtful in light of this news.

Canes' Bellemore Will Not Play Thursday

News: Brett Bellemore (neck) will not play Thursday against the Predators, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News and Observer reports.
Analysis: After reporting some stiffness in his neck, Brett Bellemore was sent back to Carolina, likely for further evaluation. He only has two points (1G, 1A) on the season, but Bellemore has his plus-minus rating back to even with a plus-2 rating in his last two contests.
