Blues' Butler Assists In Win

News: Chris Butler collected an assist in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Wild.
Analysis: Chris Butler finished the game with the second-lowest TOI (19:18) among the Blues' defensemen, which puts his status on some shaky ground heading into the postseason. With coach Ken Hitchcock resting both of his star blueliners, Alex Pietrangelo and Kevin Shattenkirk, in Saturday's regular-season finale, Butler seems at risk of opening the first round of the playoffs in the press box.

Blues' Butler Nets Goal In Return To Lineup

News: Chris Butler tallied a shorthanded goal in his return to the lineup Saturday against the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: With Jay Bouwmeester a late scratch due to an illness, Chris Butler made just his third appearance in a little over two weeks. Though he had a productive outing Saturday, Butler doesn't figure to enjoy a stranglehold on a regular lineup spot going forward, especially with Zbynek Michalek (concussion) and Kevin Shattenkirk (abdominal surgery) nearing returns to action.

Blues' Butler Chips In With Assist Tuesday

News: Chris Butler attempted three shots and contributed the assist on Jaden Schwartz's overtime game-winner Tuesday against the Lightning.
Analysis: Kevin Shattenkirk appears set to miss significant time due to abdominal surgery, opening up a regular lineup spot for Chris Butler in the interim. Butler turned in a productive showing in his return to active duty, but he won't have nearly the fantasy upside that Shattenkirk provided for owners. Over 21 games this season, Butler has a mere five points.

Blues' Butler Finding Offense

News: Chris Butler scored a goal for the second consecutive night in Tuesday's loss to Nashville.
Analysis: Despite not seeing any kind of increase in ice time over these two games -- he still skated only 13:30 on Tuesday, a miserably low amount for a blueliner -- Chris Butler has provided an offensive spark for the Blues. However, with a career high of 21 points -- and just four this year -- he's not likely to keep it up.

Blues' Butler Nabs First Goal

News: Chris Butler netted his first goal of the season in Monday's 3-0 victory over the Avalanche.
Analysis: Chris Butler has claimed a regular spot in the St. Louis lineup while Carl Gunnarsson (concussion) remains unavailable, but his stay-at-home tendencies won't yield much value most nights. He's produced only three points in his 15 games this season.

Blues' Butler Expected In Lineup Tuesday

News: Chris Butler should draw back into the lineup Tuesday, according to coach Ken Hitchcock, reports Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Analysis: With Carl Gunnarsson suffering the effects of a concussion, Chris Butler is in a three-man rotation at the back end of the Blues defense. Butler has one assist and is plus-3 in 9 games with the Blues this year.

Blues Recall Butler

News: Chris Butler will be recalled from AHL Chicago on Saturday, NHL.com's Aaron Vickers reports.
Analysis: After Jordan Leopold was dealt to the Blue Jackets earlier in the day, Chris Butler will join the Blues to serve as the team's seventh defenseman. The veteran is unlikely to see much frequent action in games and represents more of a fallback option in the event one of the Blues' other defensemen suffers an injury.

Blues Reassign Butler

News: Chris Butler was reassigned to AHL Chicago on Tuesday, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Waived earlier in camp by the Blues, Chris Butler remained with the Blues as an extra body for the final handful of preseason games. The 27-year-old has 349 games of NHL experience on his ledger and should find his way back to St. Louis later on this season.

Blues Place Butler On Waivers

News: Chris Butler was placed on waivers by the Blues on Monday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Analysis: Chris Butler was one of a slew of players competing for the seventh spot on defense for the Blues, but he failed to do enough in training camp to warrant a stay with the parent club. Assuming Butler clears waivers, he's slated to open the campaign at AHL Chicago.

Blues Sign Butler To One-Year, Two-Way Contract

News: Chris Butler signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Blues on Wednesday.
Analysis: Chris Butler will join the Blues coming off a season where he appeared in all 82 games for Calgary, registering 16 points (two goals and 14 assists). The defenseman should slot in somewhere for the Blues, but where will likely be determined in training camp.

Calgary's Butler Dishes Assists

News: Chris Butler dispensed a pair of assists Tuesday in a 3-1 win over the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Chris Butler isn't much of a scorer, with 13 points in 69 games, so any night he has like Tuesday is an added bonus for Calgary. Butler is a stay-at-home, defensive-minded blueliner, and shouldn't be counted on for much more.

Flames' Butler To Play Saturday

News: Chris Butler (lower body) will play Saturday against the Oilers, Kristen Odland of the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Chris Butler seemed to be a long shot to play Saturday after injuring his leg in the second period of Thursday's loss to the Kings, but coach Bob Hartley said the defenseman made a surprisingly quick recovery. He'll join Kris Russell on the third defensive pairing in his return to the lineup.

Flames' Butler Doubtful For Saturday

News: Chris Butler (lower body) is doubtful for Saturday's game against the Oilers, Pat Steinberg of 960 The FAN reports.
Analysis: No surprise here, as Chris Butler was hurt Thursday night and did not step onto the ice for Friday's morning skate. With Butler likely to miss at least one game, Derek Smith will slot into the rotation and the team will likely add a defenseman from the AHL.

Flames' Butler Misses Friday's Skate

News: Chris Butler (lower body) did not skate Friday morning, Pat Steinberg of 960 The FAN reports.
Analysis: Chris Butler left Thursday's game against Los Angeles with a lower-body injury, and while the severity of his injury remains uncertain, he would appear iffy for Saturday's tilt against Edmonton.

Flames' Butler Suffers Injury Thursday

News: Chris Butler left Thursday's game with a lower-body injury and will not return.
Analysis: Chris Butler left in the second period after logging 8:51 of ice time. He turned in a two-assist game Feb. 1 but otherwise doesn't have any points since Dec. 21.

Calgary's Butler Has Two Points Since New Year

News: Chris Butler has scored just two points in 18 games since the calendar flipped to 2014.
Analysis: Both of those points came in an overtime win over the Wild on Feb. 1, but Chris Butler has been otherwise quiet offensively for the past month and a half. Butler continues to see around 20 minutes of ice time per night, but because he's not often featured on the attack, he rarely receives good opportunities for goals or assists. Instead, most of his value comes in blocking shots, as his 154 blocks on the season rank third in the NHL behind the Isles' Andrew MacDonald and Habs' Josh Gorges.

Calgary's Butler Pots Game-Winner

News: Chris Butler scored with four seconds left in overtime Thursday to lead Calgary to a 2-1 win over Carolina.
Analysis: Chris Butler said after the game he's keeping the stick as he doesn't get many goals. Indeed, at 10 goals and 55 assists in 298 career games, scoring is not Butler's main focus.

Flames' Butler Adds Assist In Loss

News: Chris Butler notched an assist as Calgary lost 3-2 to St. Louis on Thursday.
Analysis: Chris Butler is a steady defenseman, but with three points in 16 games, shouldn't be anywhere near fantasy teams.

Flames' Butler Signs One-Year Deal

News: Chris Butler put his signature to a one-year, $1.7 million deal Friday, the Calgary Sun reports.
Analysis: Chris Butler has been a mainstay on the Calgary blue line for the past two years, providing solid defense albeit not much scoring. He will provide a needed veteran presence on the back end next season for Calgary.

Butler Grabs Lone Calgary Tally

News: Chris Butler scored Calgary's only goal in Friday's loss to Chicago, snagging his first goal of the season.
Analysis: Chris Butler has been seeing just over 17 minutes per contest for the Flames and has eight points through 44 games. He's just three seasons removed from putting up 21 points in 59 games, but odds are, Butler won't contribute too much on the offensive end going forward.

Flames' Butler (Illness) To Play Friday

News: Chris Butler is still feeling the effects of the flu but will attempt to play through it Friday against the Oilers, the Flames' official Twitter account reports.
Analysis: Chris Butler wasn't listed among the team's scratches, so he'll be in uniform and presumably available. Expect the team to manage his ice time carefully so he doesn't overexert himself as he looks to get over the illness.

Flames' Butler Suffering From Flu

News: Chris Butler is suffering from the flu, according to TSN.ca.
Analysis: The Flames called up Mark Cundari from the AHL on Friday, but we'll note that fellow defenseman Dennis Wideman is out with a broken finger. For now, we'll consider Chris Butler as questionable for Friday's tilt against the Ducks.

Flames' Butler Has Big Night Wednesday

News: Chris Butler tallied an assist and was plus-3 in the Flames' win over San Jose on Wednesday night.
Analysis: There's not much here to get excited about most of the time, however, as the former fourth-round pick has just four points on the season while toting a minus-3 rating even after the boost from Wednesday's game.

Flames' Butler Notches Pair Of Assists

News: Chris Butler notched a pair of assists in a 5-4 victory over the Coyotes on Sunday.
Analysis: Chris Butler hasn't had a real good season so far but played much better Sunday. The Flames are still using a committee of players on their third defensive pairing, so if Butler can string a few more games like this together, that spot could be his for the taking.

Flames' Butler A Healthy Scratch Friday

News: Chris Butler will be a healthy scratch Friday against the Blues.
Analysis: In nine games so far this season, Chris Butler has a minus-five rating. He'll watch from the press box Friday.
