Jackets' Calvert Breaks Finger Thursday

News: Matt Calvert suffered a broken finger in Thursday's loss to the Kings, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
Analysis: Matt Calvert broke his finger in the second period and could not return to the game on Thursday. The team did not specify how long he will be out only that it will be a "little while," according to coach Todd Richards. This a tough turn of event for the Blue Jackets as they are hanging onto a two-point lead for the last spot in the playoffs. Check back after further evaluation on Calvert to see his exact timetable for return.

Jackets' Calvert Picks Up Another Helper

News: Matt Calvert notched an assist in Friday's 4-1 win over the Blues.
Analysis: He's now got four goals and eight points in his last 10 games, and has put himself firmly in the scoring line picture for the surging Blue Jackets who are now just two points out of eighth place in the Western Conference. Matt Calvert should remain a decent fantasy option down the stretch.

Jackets' Calvert On Mini Roll

News: Matt Calvert picked up a goal and an assist Thursday against Pekka Rinne and the Predators, giving him five points in his last four games.
Analysis: He's on a nice little role for Columbus and getting consistent second-line minutes -- 15:50 on Thursday, his sixth straight game over 15 minutes. The increase in ice is coming with a not-unexpected increase in production, as Matt Calvert's always put up decent points when given minutes.

Jackets Fall Despite Calvert's Shortie

News: Matt Calvert scored a shorthanded goal in Saturday's loss to St. Louis.
Analysis: This tally isn't likely to affect many fantasy leagues' standings, as Matt Calvert has just five points all season.

Jackets' Calvert Scores First Of Year

News: Matt Calvert picked up his very first point of the year Thursday in a loss to Calgary, scoring a game-tying first-period goal.
Analysis: He'd been off to a brutal start, putting up a minus-8 rating with just eight shots in seven games while averaging 11:15 in ice time. Matt Calvert played a bit more in this one -- 12:49 -- but he was much more active, picking up three hits, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in addition to his goal on two shots.

Jackets' Calvert Practices Monday

News: Matt Calvert (lower body) practiced briefly Monday, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Matt Calvert was only on the ice for part of practice and remains questionable for Tuesday's game against the Kings. Calvert's participation in Tuesday morning's practice will give us a better idea if he will be able to play.

Jackets' Calvert (Lower Body) Placed On Injured Reserve

News: Matt Calvert (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.
Analysis: Matt Calvert was scratched from Tuesday's game after missing morning skate with the lower body injury, which could keep him out for the next few games. Jonathan Audy-Marchessault was recalled from AHL Springfield to provide some addition depth.

Jackets' Calvert Out Tuesday

News: Matt Calvert didn't play Tuesday due to a suspected lower body injury, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: He didn't make it through the morning skate and got scratched in favor of Derek MacKenzie. Matt Calvert hasn't done much to second a spot on one of the top lines in Cam Atkinson's absence, and may find himself back in the press box even when he does get healthy.

Columbus Calls Up Calvert

News: Matt Calvert was recalled from Springfield of the AHL and skated on the fourth line with Derek MacKenzie and Jared Boll during Monday's practice, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Matt Calvert had scored 10 goals and 21 points in 34 games with Springfield during the lockout. Calvert's shown offensive upside at the NHL level when granted playing time before, but he's unlikely to crack the Jackets' top six.

Blue Jackets Send Calvert To AHL

News: The Blue Jackets have reassigned Matt Calvert to AHL Springfield, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The 21-year-old winger has appeared in 13 games for Columbus this season and has recorded three points (assists). The numbers are down from last year where he recorded 20 points (11 G, 9 A) in just 42 games with the club. He'll be back in Springfield for now, but he could be recalled again down the road in the event of an injury.

Jackets Call Up Calvert

News: The Blue Jackets recalled Matt Calvert from AHL Springfield on Friday, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The Jackets send down David Savard and Maksim Mayorov. Matt Calvert didn't record a point in four AHL games but does have an assist and a positive +/- in five games with Columbus this season. The young winger recorded 20 points (11G, 9A) in 42 games last season and could be equally as productive if he gets the playing time.

Blue Jackets Send Calvert To AHL

News: Matt Calvert was sent to Springfield (AHL) on Monday, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: No word yet regarding his replacement, but it's unlikely that Tomas Kubalik will get the call as he's been banged up with the Falcons recently.

Jackets' Calvert Says He'll Play Monday

News: Matt Calvert (mouth) skated with the team Sunday and said he will play Monday against Vancouver, The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Minnesota forward Pierre-Marc Bouchard hit Matt Calvert with a high-stick during the second period of the Wild's 4-2 win Saturday. The hit knocked out one of Calvert's front teeth and parts of two others. Despite the injury, Calvert had his lip stitched up and returned to the game. "I'm good to go," Calvert said. "I came back in [Saturday] and I felt better after it happened. I was fired up." Bouchard was suspended two games for the high-stick.

Calvert Returns To Blue Jackets' Practice

News: Matt Calvert (groin) returned to practice Sunday, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: He'll likely work on the team's third line to open the season, and it sounds like this injury won't be a factor for him when the regular season gets underway this week.

Blue Jackets' Calvert Skating Again

News: Matt Calvert (groin) skated on his own during Wednesday's practice, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: He's not expected to play in the Jackets' final two exhibition games, but hasn't been ruled out for opening night.

Jackets' Calvert Has Groin Injury

News: Matt Calvert is dealing with a groin injury, The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Matt Calvert skated by himself, and with precaution, Sunday. He had 11 goals and nine assists in 42 games with Columbus as a rookie, including a hat trick. Calvert could play an extended role this season if he can remain healthy. Keep an eye on his progress.

Jackets' Calvert Dishes Two Helpers Thursday

News: Calvert registered a pair of assists during the Jackets' 4-3 OT loss to the Capitals on Thursday.
Analysis: The helpers give Calvert 19 points in 36 games so far this season, not a bad showing for a rookie. He could be a late-round sleeper candidate in next year's fantasy drafts. Keep an eye on him.

Jackets' Calvert Gets Hat Trick In Win Friday

News: Calvert notched a hat trick and added an assist in Columbus' 5-3 win over Phoenix on Friday.
Analysis: The rookie winger is off to a solid start to his NHL career with nine goals and four assists in 20 games. Calvert now has goals in four of his last five games.

Columbus' Calvert Has First Multi-Point Game

News: Calvert had his first career multi-point game in Friday's victory of Chicago.
Analysis: He only played 8:53 in the win, but we have to think that contributions like this will pave the way to more playing time for the youngster. Don't be surprised if Calvert's role grows down the stretch as the Jackets make their playoff push.

Calvert Moves Up Jackets' Depth Chart

News: Calvert took a regular shift on the second line Friday, picking up an assist on Antoine Vermette's first period goal.
Analysis: Kristian Huselius was a healthy scratch, and the Blue Jackets won the game, so we'd imagine Calvert will stick on the line in the short term at least. The rookie now has three points in his last four games and might be worth a look.

Calvert Getting PP Time With Blue Jackets

News: Calvert practiced with the second power play unit on Thursday, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: He bumped Kris Huselius off the unit, and coach Scott Arniel indicated that Calvert will start receiving a regular shift with the man advantage. "He's going to get some power-play time," Arniel said. "We want to get a feel for it. He got some time the other night (vs. Chicago). We're trying to find some ice time for him, and that's an area we can look at." That's still not enough to make you rush out and nab Calvert off the waiver wire, but keep an eye on him just in case.

Jackets Call Up Calvert

News: Calvert has been called up by the Blue Jackets, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: His role in Columbus will likely be limited to fourth-line duty. As a result, there's just not much to get excited about here.
