Jackets' Calvert Battling Sinus Infection

News: Matt Calvert has been playing through a sinus infection for the last couple of weeks, the Columbus Dispatch reports. "I've never had it like this before," Calvert said.
Analysis: After missing practice on Monday, Matt Calvert ended up taking his regular shift during Tuesday's win over the Capitals and finished with no points and a minus-2 rating. In fact, aside from a two-goal game against the Bruins on January 13, he's been mired in an awful stretch of play while he battles through the sinus issue. Until he gets healthy, keep Calvert far away from your active roster.

Jackets' Calvert Nets Two Including Winner

News: Matt Calvert scored the go-ahead goal with 3:03 left in the third period and added an empty-net goal in Columbus' 3-1 win over Boston on Saturday night.
Analysis: His fantasy contributions are minimal -- he has just 12 points, including six goals, in 34 games this season. He's clutch on the ice, though, as he's one of those guys you can trust to help preserve a lead late in the game.

Calvert Good To Go For Columbus

News: Matt Calvert (illness) will play Friday against the Rangers.
Analysis: Matt Calvert was listed as questionable Friday, but he's good to go for the game. The left winger has recorded 10 points in 32 games for the Blue Jackets to date.

Jackets' Calvert (Illness) Questionable For Friday

News: Matt Calvert (illness) is questionable to play Friday against the Rangers, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The illness prevented Matt Calvert from taking part in the Blue Jackets' morning skate, but the team hasn't ruled him out from playing later in the evening. If he fails to make enough gains in his recovery in the afternoon, Calvert will be replaced in the lineup by the newly recalled Josh Anderson.

Jackets' Calvert Nabs Two Points Saturday

News: Matt Calvert contributed a goal, assist and five hits in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Bruins.
Analysis: Matt Calvert was honored as the game's third star after capping a four-goal second period for the Jackets with an unassisted tally in the final minute. He's notched four points over his last four games, but that might be the extent of the hot streak for the 25-year-old, who hasn't proven to be a high-volume scorer over parts of five NHL seasons.

Blue Jackets Activate Calvert From Injured Reserve

News: The Blue Jackets activated Matt Calvert (upper body) from injured reserve Tuesday, Shawn Mitchell of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Matt Calvert is set to return to action after missing over a week with his upper body injury. He will not be in the lineup for Tuesday's game, but he saw regular action prior to suffering the setback, so it seems he has a decent chance to return for the Blue Jackets' next game Friday.

Blue Jackets' Calvert Healthy, But Remains On IR

News: Matt Calvert (upper body) is healthy, but will not return Tuesday against the Red Wings.
Analysis: The Blue Jackets have won two straight games, so head coach Todd Richards will stick with the same lineup Tuesday night and Matt Calvert will spend another game on injured reserve. However, he could be activated before Friday's game.

Jackets' Calvert Practices

News: Matt Calvert (upper body) practiced with the team Monday, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Matt Calvert is still listed on the IR list, but hasn't played since Nov. 7, so he's eligible to be activated at any time. There's a chance he'll be ready to return Tuesday against the Red Wings, but we likely won't know until closer to game time.

Jackets Place Calvert On IR

News: Matt Calvert (upper body) was placed on injured reserve retroactive to Nov. 7, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Since Matt Calvert's retroactive date is from over a week earlier, he'll be eligible to return to action as soon as the Blue Jackets deem him fit to play. Calvert was a participant in Saturday's optional practice and looks like he'll be targeting a return to the lineup Tuesday versus the Red Wings. By moving Calvert to IR temporarily, the Blue Jackets were able to activate Artem Anisimov (concussion) in advance of Saturday's game against San Jose.

Jackets' Calvert Skates Saturday

News: Matt Calvert (upper body) participated in Saturday's optional practice.
Analysis: Though Matt Calvert has been ruled out from playing Saturday against the Sharks -- the fourth straight game he'll have missed -- his return to practice suggests he's on track to return Tuesday against the Red Wings. The Blue Jackets will likely need to see Calvert take full contact before clearing him to slot back into the lineup.

Blue Jackets' Calvert Out Friday And Saturday

News: Matt Calvert (upper body), who was already ruled out for Friday's game, will not play Saturday either, Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Matt Calvert is apparently close to returning, but he will not play in either of the Blue Jackets' games this weekend. Calvert's next opportunity to play will come Tuesday against the Red Wings.

Jackets' Calvert To Miss Third Straight

News: Matt Calvert (upper body) will not play Friday against the Flyers, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Matt Calvert will sit out his third straight game after he was unable to resume practicing Thursday. He continues to skate on his own, however, which will perhaps make him an option when the Blue Jackets return home Saturday for a game against the Sharks.

Blue Jackets' Calvert Sits Out Practice

News: Matt Calvert (upper body) did not take part in Thursday's practice, Shawn Mitchell of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Matt Calvert still has not skated since suffering the injury last week, so it should not come as a surprise if he sits out of his third straight game Friday night.

Jackets' Calvert To Miss Another

News: Matt Calvert (upper body) will not play Tuesday against the Capitals.
Analysis: Matt Calvert is set to miss his second straight contest after aggravating the upper-body injury last week. The forward hasn't resumed skating since suffering the ailment, putting his status in jeopardy for Friday's game against the Flyers.

Jackets' Calvert Out With Injury Saturday

News: Matt Calvert will not play Saturday against the Lightning after aggravating an upper-body injury in Friday's loss to the Hurricanes, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Matt Calvert missed a little over a week of action due to the upper-body injury the first time around, and lasted just two games before suffering another setback. The Blue Jackets are listing him as day-to-day for now, but if he's able to resume skating over the next couple days, he could be available for Tuesday's tilt in Washington.

Blue Jackets Activate Calvert From Injured Reserve

News: The Blue Jackets activated Matt Calvert (upper body) from injured reserve Tuesday, Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Matt Calvert will return to action after missing more than a week. He will replace Sean Collins on the Blue Jackets' roster and figures to slot in on either the third or fourth line.

Columbus' Calvert (Upper Body) Back At Practic

News: Matt Calvert (upper body) returned to full practice Monday and is expected to return to action Tuesday against the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Matt Calvert has been out with an undisclosed upper body injury since Oct. 24, but all signs point to him returning to the ice Tuesday night. The 24-year-old has appeared in seven games this season, notching a goal, an assist and six penalty minutes. He finished last season with a career-best 24 points in 56 games.

Jackets' Calvert Won't Play Saturday

News: Matt Calvert (upper body) will not return to the Columbus lineup Saturday versus New Jersey, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Matt Calvert was first eligible to return from injured reserve Saturday, but he didn't make as much progress with his injury in the last week as the Blue Jackets had hoped. He didn't travel with the team to New Jersey and will instead turn his attention toward getting ready for Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes.

Jackets' Calvert Could Return Saturday

News: Matt Calvert (upper body) could be activated from injured reserve and return to the lineup Saturday against the Devils, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Matt Calvert didn't take part in line work during Thursday's practice and doesn't look like he'll be an option for Friday's tilt with the Maple Leafs, but the Blue Jackets feel there's a chance he could be available for the second game of the back-to-back. The team has been hit hard this season across the roster by injuries, to the point that even the return of a bit player like Calvert would offer some form of relief.

Jackets Place Calvert On IR

News: The Blue Jackets placed Matt Calvert (undisclosed) on IR on Monday, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Apparently Matt Calvert's injury is serious enough to warrant a trip to IR, but we still haven't heard exactly what is wrong with him. The team recalled Alexander Wennberg to take Calvert's place on the roster.

Jackets' Calvert Out Sunday

News: Matt Calvert won't play Sunday against the Kings.
Analysis: Matt Calvert's reason for missing the game is unclear at this point, but with Cam Atkinson already missing, the Jackets will be short another forward Sunday.

Jackets' Calvert Notches Two Points In Win

News: Matt Calvert recorded a goal and an assist -- his first two points of the season -- in Friday's win over Calgary.
Analysis: The third-line winger netted the game-winning goal in the second period when he jumped on a loose puck sitting in the crease. Matt Calvert, who barely gets used on the power play, set a career-high in 2013-14 with nine goals and 24 points. Calvert is likely to improve on those totals this season, but as a bottom-six forward, he can't be counted in anything but the deepest of leagues.

Jackets' Calvert Has Three-Point Night

News: Matt Calvert scored two goals and added an assist in Wednesday's 6-3 preseason win over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: He's seen a lot of work this preseason with top prospect Alexander Wennberg, and with Ryan Johansen (contract dispute), Nathan Horton (back) and Boone Jenner (hand) all currently sidelined Matt Calvert will likely be asked to take on a bigger share of the offensive load when the regular season begins. He could be a bit of a sleeper in deep leagues.

Jackets' Calvert: Two Goals, First Star

News: Matt Calvert was on fire Saturday, scoring while shorthanded and then netting the winner in double-OT in a 4-3 victory over Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Deservedly, he was named the game's first star. His upside is limited, but he's proving to be clutch.

Jackets' Calvert Finds The Net Friday

News: Matt Calvert scored the Blue Jackets' lone goal in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Penguins, his first tally in 13 games.
Analysis: Since coming off IR in late February, Matt Calvert has just two goals and five assists in 15 games, with 13 PIM, 29 shots, 23 hits and a minus-2 rating. The Jackets like him for his energy and grit, but even in leagues with a broad range of scoring categories his fantasy value is minimal.
