Dekanich Playing In KHL

News: Mark Dekanich, who spent last season with the Jets' AHL affiliate in St. John's, is playing for Zagreb Medvescak, a KHL team, in his home country of Croatia.
Analysis: The news of Mark Dekanich's international signing flew under the radar, as the Canadian goalie (of Croatian descent) had seen his prospect star dim in recent years.

Jets' Dekanich Clears Waivrs

News: Mark Dekanich has officially cleared waivers, according to TSN.ca.
Analysis: It was somewhat surprising that no other team claimed Mark Dekanich as there are quite a few who could use some goalie depth. He will likely be assigned to St. John's of the AHL.

Jets Waive Dekanich

News: Mark Dekanich was waived by the Jets on Friday, according to Darren Dreger of TSN.
Analysis: Mark Dekanich has played in one career NHL game in the 2010-11 season with the Predators. He will likely be claimed by a team that has room for goalie depth in their system.

Dekanich Sent To AHL

News: Mark Dekanich was one of seven players signed to the Jets' minor league affiliate the St. John's IceCaps, team's official website reports.
Analysis: Mark Dekanich was drafted in the fifth round of the 2006 NHL entry draft and is probably going to spend the year in the minors regardless of when the NHL lockout ends.

Jets Sign Dekanich

News: Mark Dekanich has signed with the Jets, James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail reported Friday.
Analysis: The terms of the deal haven't yet been disclosed, but Mark Dekanich will head off to Winnipeg where he'll likely back up Ondrej Pavelec along with Al Montoya. The 26-year-old Dekanich has just one NHL start under his belt, and made just five starts at the AHL level last season because of an ankle injury.

Columbus' Dekanich Out 4-to-6 Months

News: Mark Dekanich has undergone the Brostrom procedure and faces a 4-to-6 month recovery time, Columbus Dispatch writer Aaron Portzline reports.
Analysis: As a professional athlete, Mark Dekanich has good odds as far as the procedure being a success. Still, the surgery is a fairly serious one and is a concern for Dekanich's development.

Jackets' Prospect Dekanich Hurt Again

News: Mark Dekanich will undergo an MRI on the same ankle he injured earlier this year and is out indefinitely, reports Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch.
Analysis: The team will provide an update on Wednesday, but it looks like this season is a write-off for the apparently NHL-ready netminder. Neither the Jackets nor Mark Dekanich can catch a break this season. But perhaps there is a silver lining -- he won't get promoted any time soon and be hung out to dry by the pathetic Jackets.

Dekanich Back In Action For Jackets' AHL Squad

News: Mark Dekanich is making his debut on Saturday for AHL Springfield, Falcons broadcaster Mike Kelly reports.
Analysis: After battling through two lower body injuries that have wrecked his season to date, the Blue Jackets will likely give Mark Dekanich time to get back into game shape before calling him up. With neither Curtis Sanford nor Steve Mason playing particularly well between the pipes though, the temptation could be there to call Dekanich up quickly if he looks good right out of the gate.

Jackets' Dekanich Begins Skating

News: Mark Dekanich (groin) has begun skating, albeit gingerly, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The Blue Jackets are now considering giving Mark Dekanich an extended run in the AHL once he's healthy, rather than quickly promoting him to the NHL roster, so don't expect to see him in net for Columbus any time soon.

Blue Jackets' Dekanich Suffers Groin Injury

News: Mark Dekanich suffered a groin injury while warming up prior to Friday's AHL game, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Mark Dekanich was sent to the AHL to get back in shape after recovering from an ankle injury, but his latest setback will keep him on the shelf awhile longer. Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson termed Dekanich "week-to-week," so a target return date has yet to be established.

Jackets' Dekanich Nearing Return

News: Mark Dekanich (ankle) has been activated from IR and assigned to Springfield (AHL), Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: He could be back on the Jackets' roster as early as Saturday if he plays well in his return to game action with the Falcons on Friday night.

Jackets' Dekanich Getting Close To Returning

News: Mark Dekanich (high ankle sprain) has begun skating, and could be ready for an AHL conditioning assignment within two weeks, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Finally the Jackets have a timetable for Mark Dekanich, and some help appears to be on the way for the so-far overworked Steve Mason.

Jackets' Dekanich Will Need Conditioning Assignment

News: Mark Dekanich (ankle) will require an AHL conditioning assignment before the Blue Jackets activate him, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Allen York is currently serving as the backup for the Jackets and Mark Dekanich still isn't quite ready to return to AHL action yet, so his return appears to be more than week away at this point.

Jackets' Dekanich Begins "Goalie-Specific" Drills

News: Mark Dekanich (ankle) has begun "goalie-specific" drills, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: "He's come along very well, but we're not going to push it," Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson said. "This is a tricky injury, with lots of potential setbacks if you aren't patient." Mark Dekanich hasn't played this season and it appears the Blue Jackets are in no hurry to rush him back.

Jackets' Dekanich Still 2-3 Weeks Away From Playing

News: Mark Dekanich (ankle) has begun skating without pads, and Blue Jackets coach Scott Arniel thinks he's still at least 2-3 weeks away from being able to play, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The Jackets' goaltending depth is being sorely tested right now, with Mark Dekanich, Curtis Sanford and Allen York all dealing with various injuries. Once Dekanich is back, look for him to get steady work, as Steve Mason will be long overdue for a break by that point.

Jackets' Dekanich (High Ankle) Out 6-8 Weeks

News: Mark Dekanich will be out six-to-eight weeks with a high ankle sprain, according to Toronto's FAN590.
Analysis: Jackets' general manager Scott Howson was interviewed Wednesday and revealed the timeline on Mark Dekanich's injury. That's a big blow to people who had either drafted him as a handcuff or as a pure speculation bid this year.

High Ankle Sprain for Jackets' Dekanich

News: Mark Dekanich has been officially diagnosed with a high ankle sprain, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: He might have just enough time to recover before the regular season starts, but if not Curtis Sanford would open the year as Steve Mason's backup.

Blue Jackets' Dekanich (Leg) Sits Wednesday

News: Mark Dekanich (leg) did not skate Wednesday, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Mark Dekanich left Tuesday's preseason game with a lower-body injury, so this doesn't come as much of a surprise. He'll want to make a quick return if he hopes to put a dent into Steve Mason's playing time early this season.

Dekanich (Lower Body) Leaves Tuesday's Preseason Game

News: Mark Dekanich left Tuesday's preseason game with a lower body injury and will not return, the Blue Jackets official site reports.
Analysis: He was one of the top goaltenders in the AHL last season and is set to challenge Steve Mason for playing time this season. Hopefully this injury is not serious. Stay tuned for more updates.

Dekanich Signs With Blue Jackets

News: Dekanich has signed a one-year contract with the Blue Jackets, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Dekanich spent the last three seasons with Nashville and saw just one game with the Preds in 2010-11. However, he was one of the top goaltenders in the AHL last season, posting a 23-12-2 record with a 2.02 GAA, .931 SV% and four shutouts in 43 games with the Milwaukee Admirals. With the Blue Jackets, he should challenge Steve Mason for playing time next season, and should see more ice time than he did playing behind Pekka Rinne last year.

Preds Reassign Dekanich To Minors

News: Dekanich has been reassigned to AHL Milwaukee, the Predators' official site reports.
Analysis: Dekanich did not see any game action during his latest recall. He is currently third among all AHL goalies in save percentage (.929), fourth in goals-against average (2.04) and is tied for eighth in wins (20), and ranks third on the Preds' goalie depth chart behind Pekka Rinne and Anders Lindback. Despite his good numbers, Dekanich doesn't project to have much fantasy value for at least another season or two.

Preds Recall Dekanich

News: Dekanich has been recalled from AHL Milwaukee, the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: The team's regular backup goalie, Anders Lindback, was suffering from flu-like symptoms Thursday, and is questionable for Saturday's game against Phoenix. Chances are good Dekanich will back up Pekka Rinne against the Coyotes, and will be sent back to Milwaukee soon after.

Preds' Dekanich Returned To Minors

News: Dekanich made his NHL debut Saturday against the Kings, but was reassigned to AHL Milwaukee after the game, the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: The Kings chased Preds starter Anders Lindback midway through the first period after he allowed three goals. Dekanich then stepped in and made 22 saves on 25 shots, but was told after the game he was being reassigned to Milwaukee to make room for starter Pekka Rinne, who is expected to return from a knee injury. The Preds have one of the strongest 1-2 goalie tandems in the league in Rinne and Lindback, meaning Dekanich does not have much fantasy value at the present time.

Preds Recall Dekanich

News: Dekanich has been recalled from Milwaukee (AHL), TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: The Preds' goaltending situation has been shaken up by an undisclosed injury to No. 1 netminder Pekka Rinne. Until we know more about the nature of Rinne's ailment, any recommended pickup of Dekanich should be a considered a speculative move in a deeper league at best.

Preds' Dekanich Sent Back to Minors

News: Dekanich was reassigned to AHL Milwaukee on Sunday, the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: With starter Pekka Rinne poised to return, Dekanich was no longer needed. He was originally called up to be Anders Lindback's backup when Rinne was first injured, but did not see any game action. Dekanich is firmly entrenched as the Preds' #3 goalie this season and has no real fantasy value unless there is another injury to either Rinne or Lindback.
