Sabres, Ennis Agree To Five-Year Pact

News: Tyler Ennis re-signed with the Sabres on a five-year, $23 million extension Thursday, Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Despite notching a career-high 21 goals during the past season, Tyler Ennis seemed to regress offensively, as his per-game scoring output trailed his production from the injury-plagued 2011-12 and the lockout-shortened 2012-13 campaigns. Ennis' outlook for the upcoming season could look a little more rosier after the team brought back Matt Moulson in free agency to take some pressure off the top-line center, but he'll probably need to become a consistent 60-point scorer for the team to climb out of the Eastern Conference cellar.

Sabres Extend Ennis Five Years

News: The Sabres re-signed Tyler Ennis to a five-year, $23 million contract extension Wednesday, reports NESN.
Analysis: The new extension will carry a cap hit of $4.6 million, nearly double the cap hit of Tyler Ennis' previous contract. The diminutive forward is pencilled in as the team's top center next year and will be the offensive focal point once again. The Sabres aren't expected to compete for a playoff spot, but this puts more pressure on the 24-year-old to produce points on a very young team. The Sabres have a plethora of centers in their prospect pool, but Ennis is the most polished, despite his weaker faceoff abilities. Fantasy-wise, Ennis is still one of Buffalo's more enticing options, but is not the type of player who can contribute in peripheral categories.

Ennis' 21 Goals Lead Sabres

News: Tyler Ennis missed just two games in the 2013-14 season, notching a team-best (and career-high) 21 goals.
Analysis: Despite his size and difficulty with winning faceoffs, Tyler Ennis is expected to be the Sabres' top center next year. The team's first-round pick in the 2008 draft, Ennis has 166 points in 267 career games. He will look to improve from his modest 43-point output this season, but it's tough to ask him to suddenly turn into a point-per-game producer or carry the Sabres' offense.

Sabres' Ennis Logs Assist In Loss

News: Tyler Ennis logged an assist in Thursday's 201 loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: Tyler Ennis, who set a new career-high earlier this month with 21 goals, has 43 points through 78 games played.

Sabres' Ennis Scores Two In Win

News: Tyler Ennis snapped a three-game scoring drought with two regulation goals against New Jersey on Tuesday in a 3-2 shootout win.
Analysis: Tyler Ennis logged a team-high 23:22 among forwards as the Sabres snapped a four-game losing streak with a win over the Devils. Ennis now has a career-high 21 goals on the season, though still has just 40 points with 19 assists. Going forward, Ennis will be a key part of the Sabres' offense. The slick playmaker doesn't have a lot of size, but he certainly makes up for it in other areas of the game with his scoring prowess. He's one of the few Sabres worth owning in deeper fantasy leagues.

Sabres' Ennis Racks Up PIM Tuesday

News: Tyler Ennis logged 12 minutes in the penalty box in Tuesday's loss to the Canadiens.
Analysis: Although the double-digit penalty minutes might have been welcome from fantasy owners looking for production in that category, the Sabres would almost certainly prefer Tyler Ennis to stay out of the penalty box. With Ennis limited to 16:56 of ice time Tuesday, the Sabres were shut out by the Habs for the second time this season. Ennis had actually been picking up his scoring with eight points in his preceding 11 games, so Tuesday's blank slate can probably be written off as an aberration.

Sabres' Ennis: 20 Points In Last 22 Games

News: Tyler Ennis' point streak now stands at four games and four points (two goals, two assists) after he tallied the Sabres' only goal in a 4-1 loss to the Islanders on Saturday night.
Analysis: He's actually been percolating along since mid January and he has 20 points, including 10 goals, in his last 22 games. And remarkably, he's only minus-2 in that span -- not bad considering he's minus-14 on the season. Ride him now. And next season may be his breakout. But we've said that before, haven't we?

Ennis Scores In Sabres' Loss

News: Tyler Ennis scored one of Buffalo's two goals in Thursday's loss to Carolina, opening the game's scoring on a penalty shot. He has a point in each of his last three games.
Analysis: After a season-long search to find the right spot for Tyler Ennis, the Sabres have finally found one for him between Cory Conacher and Drew Stafford. The Sabres' de facto top line and leads the team in minutes played each night, and the trio has collected eight points in their past three games. Ennis is an offensive playmaker and benefits from being in the center of the ice, but his faceoff abilities are still lacking, winning just 17 percent against Carolina. That's something Ennis has to drastically improve if he wants to play center full-time in the NHL.

Sabres' Ennis Lights The Lamp Twice

News: Tyler Ennis potted two goals against the Stars on Monday.
Analysis: Tyler Ennis had missed a couple games with injury issues, but he returned strongly. This gives him 16 goals on the season, and he has a four game point streak.

Sabres' Ennis Returns To Lineup

News: Tyler Ennis will return to the lineup Monday against Dallas.
Analysis: After missing two games with general soreness after taking a hard hit against Boston, Tyler Ennis will return to the lineup against Dallas. The diminutive winger has 14 goals and 30 points in 58 games this season, and is one of the Sabres' key offensive players. Unfortunately, with many of the team's veterans expected to be traded, Ennis won't get much help. He has been arguably the most valuable fantasy player on the Sabres this season, but that doesn't say very much for the league's worst team.

Sabres' Ennis Out Friday

News: Tyler Ennis (undisclosed) will not play in Friday's game against the Sharks.
Analysis: Head coach Ted Nolan said Tyler Ennis is close to playing, but he is still not feeling good enough to take the ice Friday. Ennis was able to skate Friday morning, and is considered day-to-day, so he will have a chance to return for the Sabres' next game Monday against the Stars.

Sabres' Ennis Misses Practice

News: Tyler Ennis (general body soreness) did not practice Thursday, the Sabres' official site reports.
Analysis: Tyler Ennis missed Wednesday's game against the Bruins as well, but coach Ted Nolan still hopes that the center will be able to suit up Friday against the Sharks. "[He's] still a little sore. But hopefully, knock on wood, he'll be ready to go tomorrow," coach Ted Nolan said after practice Thursday. "[It's] still one of those day-to-day things."

Sabres' Ennis Out Wednesday

News: Tyler Ennis (undisclosed) will not play Wednesday against the Bruins.
Analysis: Tyler Ennis was hit hard into the boards Tuesday night, and will end up missing Wednesday's game. He scored his 14th goal of the season before departing. The Sabres said Ennis was a little "banged up," and he's considered day-to-day with the injury. The lineup for Wednesday's game has yet to be revealed, but it's likely that John Scott, who played defense on Tuesday in place of Henrik Tallinder, will take Ennis' spot up front.

Sabres' Ennis Pots 13th Of Season

News: Tyler Ennis scored his 13th goal of the season in Thursday's loss to Ottawa. He finished the night with a season-high nine shots on goal.
Analysis: Tyler Ennis has been hot lately, collecting six points in his last six games. He is now up to 29 points in 57 games on the season. Ennis leads the Sabres with 141 shots on goal, recording a whopping 18 shots in his last three games. Play him with confidence.

Two Helpers For Sabres' Ennis

News: Tyler Ennis contributed a pair of assists in Tuesday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Caps.
Analysis: Despite going scoreless over his last two games, Tyler Ennis still has nine points in his last nine. However, he's making it clear that he simply doesn't belong at center -- he lost 10 of 14 faceoffs Tuesday and hasn't so much as broken even in that category since winning five of 10 back on Jan. 4. He hasn't had a positive night at the dot since Dec. 17 -- a span of well over a month.

Sabres' Ennis Extends Points Streak

News: Tyler Ennis will enter Saturday night's game against Columbus with a six-game point streak. Ennis has played over 20 minutes in three of his past four games.
Analysis: Offense has been a black hole for the Sabres all season - they're the only team yet to score 100 goals this year, and trail second-worst Calgary by nearly 30 goals. Tyler Ennis and the Sabres are finding it easier to score of late, but are having a lot of trouble keeping the puck out of their net. There's some good talent in the Sabres lineup, so Ennis' hot streak could extend a little longer, but once it ends, his value plummets. Ennis has seven points in his past six games and 23 points on the season.

Sabres' Ennis Sits Friday, Should Play Saturday

News: Tyler Ennis did not practice Friday, but he is still expected to play in Saturday's game against the Blue Jackets, Bill Hoppe of the Times Herald reports.
Analysis: Tyler Ennis is apparently a little banged up, but he was simply given a maintenance day Friday, and is not dealing with one specific injury. Expect him to be good to go for Saturday's game barring any setbacks before it begins.

Sabres' Ennis: Four-Game Point Streak

News: Tyler Ennis' current point streak now stands at four games and five points after he set up two goals in Saturday's shootout loss to the Blue Jackets. He has two goals and three assists on the streak.
Analysis: His season has been largely forgettable, but 2014 seems to have turned a new leaf for the talented little pivot. His faceoff success needs work, but this offense is a welcome relief to owners who've held on this long.

Ennis Says Chemistry Coming Along For Sabres

News: Tyler Ennis, one of the few Sabres to find the net in a recent three-game stretch, says the team is coming together, reports The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Tyler Ennis has found success playing alongside Zemgus Girgensons, and the two high-energy players seem to be rubbing off on one another. Ennis has more room to create offensively playing center, and Girgensons has been really good at creating room for Ennis as one of Buffalo's more consistent two-way players. When offensive players feel confident, they start making plays. Hopefully, this is a sign of more good things to come for Ennis. His 12 points is six behind Cody Hodgson's 18 for the team lead.

Sabres' Ennis: Three Points In Two Games

News: Tyler Ennis scored a goal and added an assist in Saturday's loss to Montreal. He has a modest two-game, three-point (two goals, one assist) streak on the go right now.
Analysis: It's nice to see signs of life in this talented little center. Roll him if you've been holding out hope. He's extremely talented -- might this be the start of something productive?

Sabres' Ennis Misses Practice

News: Tyler Ennis (undisclosed) did not practice Wednesday.
Analysis: Head coach Ted Nolan indicated that Tyler Ennis tweaked something Tuesday against the Blues, but also that the injury is nothing major. It sounds like Wednesday was more or less a maintenance day for Ennis, and he is expected to suit up for Thursday's contest against the Flyers.

Sabres' Ennis Missed Practice Wednesday

News: Tyler Ennis was not seen on the ice for the Sabres' practice Wednesday morning, reports Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Tyler Ennis finished the game Tuesday night against the Blues and no reasons have been given for his absence. Mikhail Grigorenko, forced to return to Buffalo after the NHL rejected his AHL conditioning assignment, takes up the vacant spot on the right wing. Recent callup Luke Adam also played on the right wing on a line with Steve Ott at center and Zemgus Girgensons on the left wing. John Scott was used as the spare forward.

Sabres' Ennis Gets Third Goal Of Season

News: Tyler Ennis scored his third goal of the season in Saturday's loss to Toronto.
Analysis: Is he heating up? It was just his second goal in 14 games, but his fourth point in his last six outings. New coach Ted Nolan seems to have breathed some life into the diminutive center ... watch his next couple games and snap him up if he shows real signs of life. He could end up as a sleeper going forward.

Sabres' Ennis Demoted From First Line

News: The Sabres' top line of Tyler Ennis, Cody Hodgson and Matt Moulson was benched for the last 26 minutes on Friday's game against Anaheim and will be split up Tuesday night against the Kings, reports the Olean Times Herald.
Analysis: The line juggling in Buffalo continues, as head coach Ron Rolston has taken Tyler Ennis off the top line and moved him back to center between Ville Leino on the left and Drew Stafford on the right. Ennis admitted that it took some getting used to playing on the right side, especially on defense. Prior to his benching, he'd managed four points and a minus-2 rating in six games playing with Hodgson and Moulson. Returning to center will give Ennis lots of room to create offense, but he's also winning just 46 percent of his face-offs. Also, his new linemates have scored a combined two goals this season, while Hodgson and Moulson have 13 between them. With so much uncertainty in the lineup and such uneven production from a young team, Ennis isn't a reliable fantasy player for shallower formats.

Sabres' Ennis Getting Used To Right Wing

News: With Matt Moulson playing on Cody Hodgson's left side, Tyler Ennis has been moved to the right wing and felt no ill effects, collecting two assists against the Stars, but admits it'll take some time getting used to, reports WGR 550.
Analysis: Tyler Ennis has never played right wing and it'll take time for him to get used to it. He's as crafty as any player and has the ability to create offense from anywhere on the ice, so playing out of position might be a blessing in disguise. Being a left-hand shot, a benefit of playing on the right side is being able to cut towards the slot on his forehand, giving him better control and more options. The bigger adjustments will be on defense, where Ennis has to pay extra attention to his already below average defensive zone coverage. Expect Ennis' point totals to climb, especially if the top line can retain the chemistry they had against Dallas. When Ennis gains right wing eligibility in leagues, it'll certainly give his value a little boost.
