Jets' Hutchinson Shuts Out Jackets

News: Michael Hutchinson recorded a 29 save shutout against the Blue Jackets on Wednesday.
Analysis: Michael Hutchinson improved his already sparkling record to 14-4-2, and has been a huge part of the Jets surprising season. He now has a GAA of 1.90 and a save percentage of .935, which rank third and second in the league respectively.

Jets Turn To Hutchinson On Wednesday

News: Michael Hutchinson will make the start in goal Wednesday against the Blue Jackets, 680 AM CJOB Sports reports.
Analysis: Michael Hutchinson has stymied the Blackhawks and Panthers his last two times out, limiting both adversaries to just two goals. The second-year goalie hasn't shown any sign of slowing down this season, as he continues to uphold a 13-4-2 record, 2.00 GAA, and .932 save percentage for the season. He looks like the most dependable goalie option among Wednesday's six-game NHL slate.

Jets' Hutchinson Masterful In Chicago

News: Hutchison turned in an impressive win Friday, stopping 31 of 33 shots in a 4-2 win over the Blackhawks at United Center.
Analysis: Yes folks, Michael Hutchinson and the Jets are for real. With a 13-4-2 record, 2.00 GAA and .932 save percentage this season, the sophomore has outplayed Ondrej Pavelec (11-10-6, 2.46 GAA, .913 save percentage) while mostly rotating starts since the end of November. It's no secret that coach Paul Maurice likes to split starts between the two, which has kept Hutchinson from being thrust into the upper echelon of fantasy goaltending this season. However, with the Jets playing well and sitting safely in a playoff spot with a seven-point cushion, feel free to deploy Hutchinson almost every time he's between the pipes.

Jets Turn To Hutchinson On Friday

News: Michael Hutchinson is slated to start Friday's game against Chicago, Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: Michael Hutchinson gets the nod Friday, after giving way to Ondrej Pavelec in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Stars.

Jets' Hutchinson Packs Away Another Win

News: Michael Hutchinson limited the Panthers to two goals on 27 shots and got eight goals of support from his mates to cruise to an easy win Tuesday.
Analysis: A fine effort from Michael Hutchinson, who'd rather uncharacteristically given up seven goals over his prior two starts. Nonetehless, he's now sitting on a 6-2 record over his last eight outings, giving the Jets no reason to gamble with Ondrej Pavelec very often.

Jets' Hutchinson To Start Tuesday

News: Michael Hutchinson was the first goalie off the ice at morning skate and will get the start in net Tuesday against the Panthers, Paul Friesen of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Michael Hutchinson will look to bounce back after an uncharacteristically poor performance in his last start in which he surrendered four goals on 25 shots to the Kings. He did, however, pull out the W in that contest, denying all four Kings he faced in the shootout. For awhile, it seemed Hutchinson was on the cusp of taking over as the Jets clear-cut number one goaltender. However, he and veteran goaltender Ondrej Pavelec have split starts over the Jets' last four games. Even so, that might have been a byproduct of the Jets playing a pair of back-to-back slates, as Pavelec has been miserable lately with four goals allowed in each of his last four starts (all losses). With a strong performance against the Panthers on Tuesday, Hutchinson should reaffirm himself as the Jets' go-to man in net going forward.

Jets' Hutchinson Comes Away With Shootout Win

News: Michael Hutchinson gave up four goals on 25 shots in regulation, before denying all four Kings' shooters in the shootout in Saturday's win over Los Angeles.
Analysis: While it wasn't the best outing for Michael Hutchinson, the 24-year-old now owns an impressive 11-4-2 record on the season, to go with a league-best .931 save percentage and a 2.00 GAA. While he's been spectacular this season, Hutchinson has now surrendered at least three goals in four of his last five appearances. While his stats have taken a bit of a hit of late, the Jets appear to be Hutchinson's team now, so keep him rolling. What a story.

Jets' Hutchinson To Draw Saturday Nod

News: Michael Hutchinson will return to the crease for Saturday's game against the Kings, TSN's Shane Hnidy reports.
Analysis: A poor outing by Ondrej Pavelec earlier this week could allow Michael Hutchinson to claim both starts of the Jets' weekend back-to-back. First, he'll have to come through with a solid showing against the Kings, which will be a tall order on the road. Hutchinson's season debut came at the Staples Center back on Nov. 12, which saw his get pulled in the second period after allowing three goals on 13 shots.

Jets' Hutchinson's Job Security Growing

News: After a poor performance in net by teammate Ondrej Pavelec Thursday against the Coyotes, Michael Hutchinson's stranglehold on the Jets' number one goaltending job is growing stronger.
Analysis: Pavelec was given the starting nod in net for the first time since the new year Thursday against Phoenix, and struggled mightily, allowing four goals for the third consecutive game, all of which have been losses. The Jets would have to be crazy to not continue to roll out Michael Hutchinson as their clear-cut number one goaltender going forward.

Jets' Hutchinson Allows Three In Loss

News: Michael Hutchinson allowed three goals on 37 shots in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Sharks.
Analysis: With the opportunity to take over the number one spot between the pipes, Michael Hutchinson picked up just his fourth regulation loss of the season, giving up the winning goal with just five seconds remaining in the game. It's hard to fault him for the loss as his mates didn't generate much offense, and the 24-year-old is still 10-4-2 with an impressive 1.88 GAA, so he should continue to stay atop the depth chart.

Jets' Hutchinson Expected To Start Monday

News: Michael Hutchinson was the first goalie off the ice in Monday's morning skate and is expected to start against the Sharks, Jeff Hamilton of CBC Manitoba reports.
Analysis: Michael Hutchinson is on the verge of snatching the number one job in goal away from Ondrej Pavelec, and his start again Monday could signify the shift in starts moving forward. Hutchinson should now be expected to take a majority of the starts between the pipes, though Pavelec will likely figure in more than most backups in the league unless Hutchinson can clearly separate himself.

Jets' Hutchinson Prying Away Number One Job

News: Michael Hutchinson is prying Winnipeg's number one job in net away from Ondrej Pavelec, Paul Friesen of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: This isn't really news to anyone who has been keeping an eye on the Jets' goaltender situation in recent weeks. Michael Hutchinson has started four of Winnipeg's last five games, including a 5-1 win over Toronto Saturday in which Hutchinson turned away 20 of 21 shots. Hutchinson is 10-3-2 in 14 starts this season, an excellent record, especially when compared to Pavelec's 10-9-5 record in 24 starts this year. Hutchinson leads the league in GAA (1.81) and save percentage (.937). It would not be a surprise if Hutchinson gets the starting nod once again when Winnipeg takes on the Sharks Monday.

Hutchinson Leads Jets To Victory Saturday

News: Michael Hutchinson turned away 20 of 21 shots in Saturday's victory over the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: After two uncharacteristically poor outings, the Michael Hutchinson we've grown accustomed to seeing returned to the net on Saturday, holding the opposition to one of fewer goals in a start for the sixth time in 14 starts. The performance likely reasserted Hutchinson as the Jets' top goaltender, and we can probably expect coach Paul Maurice's distribution of goalie starts to begin reflecting as much in the near future.

Jets' Hutchinson To Get Start Saturday

News: Michael Hutchinson will be between the pipes Saturday against the Maple Leafs, Paul Wiecek of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: Michael Hutchinson was bypassed for Wednesday's start against the Islanders after yielding three goals in both of his previous appearances, but he still looks like coach Paul Maurice's preferred option at the moment. He was granted further job security by Ondrej Pavelec giving up four goals on 32 shots in the outing against the Islanders. If Hutchinson can come up big against the Leafs, he could bring an end to Maurice's goalie rotation.

Jets' Hutchinson Comes Undone In Second Period

News: Michael Hutchinson surrendered three third-period goals en route to his third regulation loss of the season Monday versus the Wild.
Analysis: That's two sub-standard outings in a row against Minnesota for Michael Hutchinson, who was at least able to beat the Wild in Saturday's contest. The Wild's second-period surge wiped out a 2-0 deficit and spoiled what had been a dominant performance by Hutchinson until that time. Despite Monday's loss, Hutchinson seems to have separated himself a bit from Ondrej Pavelec, as he made his third straight start after coach Paul Maurice scrapped the alternate-start plan he had used with his goalies for most of the last several weeks. Pavelec still figures to remain salient in the job battle, however, so Hutchinson will need to tighten things up in future contests to maintain the top spot on the goalie depth chart.

Jets' Hutchinson Will Start Monday

News: Michael Hutchinson will start in net Monday against the Wild, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: The start will be Michael Hutchinson's third in a row, and he looks to be taking over the starting job from Ondrej Pavelec with his recent stellar play.

Jets' Hutchinson Hangs On For OT Win Saturday

News: Michael Hutchinson made 22 of 25 saves Saturday, grabbing an OT win against the Wild as the Jets prevailed 4-3.
Analysis: After finishing the second period tied 1-1, both teams traded goals in the third in front of a raucous Xcel Energy Center crowd before a bizarre bounce off the glass hit the top of the net, then bounced off Wild netminder John Curry's head and in, handing Michael Hutchinson his ninth win of the season. Despite having rotated starts with Ondrej Pavelec for most of December, Hutch has emerged victorious in nine of his last 12 games and owns a wonderful 1.77 GAA to go with an equally impressive .939 save percentage, making him an excellent option right now each time he takes to the blue paint.

Jets' Hutchinson To Start Saturday

News: Michael Hutchinson will get the start in net Saturday against the Wild, Shane Hnidy of TSN reports.
Analysis: While head coach Paul Maurice claims the decision to start Michael Hutchinson in consecutive games was made weeks ago based on the Jets' schedule arrangement, it may indicate that the Jets have decided to make Hutchinson their featured goaltender, with Ondrej Pavelec taking on a more complementary role going forward. It's still too early to tell for certain, but the fact that this is the first time a Jets goaltender has made back-to-back starts since late-November is certainly telling. Hutchinson leads the league both in GAA (1.67) and save percentage (.944) and boasts an 8-2-2 record.

Goaltender Rotation To Continue In Winnipeg

News: Head coach Paul Maurice has made it clear that the Jets' goalie rotation between Michael Hutchinson and Ondrej Pavelec will continue after the NHL's three-day holiday break, Tim Campbell of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: Michael Hutchinson's fantasy owners don't have to worry about Pavelec getting the majority of starts in net for the Jets moving forward, as Maurice has clearly indicated that Hutchinson and Pavelec have both performed well enough this season to warrant an even split in playing time. In fact, Maurice may ultimately be forced to give Hutchinson the majority of starts in net in the second half of the season, as he bests Pavelec in both major goaltending statistical categories. Hutchinson boasts a 1.67 GAA and a .944 save percentage, while Pavelec has posted slightly less impressive figures, with a 2.34 GAA and a .913 save percentage. If Pavelec struggles in a few key games down the stretch, Hutchinson may suddenly find himself as the primary goaltender for the Jets. Hutchinson has been phenomenal this season, and fantasy owners lucky enough to own him can plug him into their lineups with confidence each and every time he starts.

Hutchinson, Jets Shut Down 'Hawks

News: Michael Hutchinson stopped 38 shots in Tuesday's 5-1 road beating of the Blackhawks.
Analysis: We already knew that Michael Hutchinson was a better choice than Ondrej Pavelec, but marching into Chicago and dominating the Blackhawks for the second time this year? That's a whole other story. Hutchinson has been absolutely amazing for the Jets, with wins in four of his last five and an NHL-leading .944 save mark. Roll him out with confidence whenever he starts.

Jets' Hutchinson Starts Tuesday

News: Michael Hutchinson will start between the pipes against the Blackhawks on Tuesday, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Michael Hutchinson stopped 30 of the 31 shots he faced in Friday's win over the Bruins, continuing what has been a superb season in net for the Jets. He will carry a 1.73 GAA and .940 save percentage into Tuesday's matchup with the high-powered Blackhawks, a team he recorded his first career shutout against earlier this season.

Jets' Hutchinson Prevails Over Bruins Friday

News: Michael Hutchinson turned aside 30 of 31 shots en route to his seventh win of the year in Friday's 2-1 victory over the Bruins.
Analysis: That's the third win in four stars for the Jets' backup, who has been alternating appearances with Ondrej Pavelec since November. Michael Hutchinson's .940 save percentage and 1.73 GAA have made him an excellent option between the pipes this season for the surprising 17-10-6 Jets, but he still sits on the outside looking in on the league's high-end fantasy netminders due to his backup status.

Jets' Hutchinson To Make Start Friday

News: Michael Hutchinson was the first goalie off the ice at morning skate and is in line to make the start Friday against the Bruins, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: No surprise here, as coach Paul Maurice has held steadfast to alternating starts between Michael Hutchinson and Ondrej Pavelec for the last several games. Hutchinson has been generally brilliant since working his way into the timeshare, but turned in a stinker his last time out against the Ducks, surrendering three goals on 30 shot attempts. Tuukka Rask is expected to make the start in the opposite net for the Bruins.

Jets' Hutchinson: 27 Saves In Loss

News: Michael Hutchinson stopped 27 shots in a 4-1 loss to Anaheim on Saturday night. He allowed three goals.
Analysis: He was also largely responsible for the Ducks' third goal after nearly steering the biscuit into his own net while killing a penalty. He panicked and handed it over to Ryan Getzlaf, who then passed it to a teammate for a quick one-timer. He has been alternating starts with Ondrej Pavelec over the last nine outings and we don't expect that to change soon. He'll get a chance to rebound.

Jets Give Hutchinson The Saturday Start

News: Michael Hutchinson will be between the pipes Saturday against the Ducks, Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: Few goalies have been as consistently good as Michael Hutchinson has been for the past month and a half. After being used sparingly in October, Hutchinson has since turned the Jets' netminding situation into a 50-50 timeshare, as he and Ondrej Pavelec have been alternating starts for the last two weeks. Hutchinson has allowed no more than two goals in his last eight starts, trimming his GAA to a microscopic 1.67 in the process. Even against one of the better teams in the league in Anaheim, Hutchinson still looks like he could be a respectable fantasy option given how phenomenal he's been playing.
