Isles' Kulemin Gets First Postseason Point

News: Nikolay Kulemin contributed an assist and five hits in Sunday's Game 3 win over the Capitals.
Analysis: Nikolay Kulemin was credited with the primary assist on John Tavares' game-winning goal, as his redirected shot bounced off goalie Braden Holtby's pad into the waiting stick of the Isles' captain. Though he saw 17:16 of action while skating on the Isles' top line, Kulemin won't make for a strong selection in daily lineups during the postseason. The 28-year-old supplied just 15 goals and 31 points over 82 games during the regular season.

Isles' Kulemin: Three Points In Four Games

News: Nikolay Kulemin pitched in with an assist in his 13:27 of ice time Saturday against the Devils.
Analysis: Nikolay Kulemin has three points in four games, but as has been the case throughout his career, he remains a depth scorer -- nothing more, nothing less. Don't overreact to the relative hot spell for the winger, as it's not indicative of his future production.

Isles' Kulemin: Points In Three Straight

News: Nikolay Kulemin netted a goal in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Hurricanes.
Analysis: After being held without a point for over a month, Nikolay Kulemin has now provided offense in his last three games, totaling a goal and three assists. Even so, there's not much value to be had in a player scoring at less a half-point-per-game pace on the season, especially while he retains a role on the Isles' third line.

Isles' Kulemin Assists Twice In Win

News: Nikolay Kulemin gathered two assists in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: After supplying two goals and an assist in a Jan. 19 win over the Flyers, it's taken more than a month for Nikolay Kulemin to pick up his next point. There's not much of a place in most fantasy leagues for skaters who submit 15-game scoring slumps, so Kulemin will likely need to showcase some sustained production before attaining more relevance.

Isles' Kulemin Picks Up Three Points In Win

News: Nikolay Kulemin netted two goals, one shorthanded, and an assist in Monday's 7-4 win over the Flyers.
Analysis: Nikolay Kulemin is heating up as his three point output gives him six points in his last five contests, including five goals in that span. The 28-year-old will likely cool off as this level of production is unsustainable for him, but he's up to 20 points on the season and could reach the 40-point plateau by the end of the year.

Isles' Kulemin Nets Goal In Win

News: Nikolay Kulemin potted a goal and finished plus-2 in Tuesday's win over the Rangers.
Analysis: Nikolay Kulemin has goals in back-to-back games, but he'll need to pile up some more shot attempts in order to be optimistic about his chances of sustaining that production. He's averaging a meager 1.44 shot attempts per game on the season, which predictably hasn't lent itself to many points.

Isles' Kulemin Breaks Skid

News: Nikolay Kulemin recorded an empty-net goal in Saturday's triumph over the Lightning.
Analysis: After recently seeing some run on the top line with John Tavares and Kyle Okposo, Nikolay Kulemin has since returned to the second trio after failing to provide much production during that time. Saturday's goal marked the first point Kulemin has recorded in December, breaking an eight-game scoreless skid. The empty-netter should do little to inspire hope that a breakout might be imminent for the winger.

Isles' Kulemin Earns Second Star Tuesday

News: Nikolai Kulemin was named the game's second star Tuesday, putting up a shorthanded goal, an assist and a plus-2 rating in a 6-0 rout of the Avalanche.
Analysis: The fine night ended a six-game scoring drought for Nikolai Kulemin, who hadn't registered on the sheet since Oct. 25 against Dallas, looking totally invisible for large stretches of the Isles' five-game road trip. Home cooking's made a difference for Kulemin this year, as he has six points in six games on Long Island, and two points in nine games everywhere else.

Isles' Kulemin Clicks With Grabovski And Nielsen

News: Nikolai Kulemin netted a short-handed goal and added an even-strength assist in Saturday's 7-5 victory over the Stars.
Analysis: The goal was his first of the season. He and Mikhail Grabovski have chemistry from their days in Toronto, and Frans Nielsen appears to be the guy who can round out a really nice line. His fantasy contributions will be inconsistent, but he can be helpful in deep formats that also count hits.

Isles' Kulemin Likely To Open Season On Third Line

News: Nikolai Kulemin will likely open the season on the third forward line, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: This comes as a bit of a surprise as it was thought when the Islanders signed Nikolai Kulemin for over $4 million a season, it was to play with Mikhail Grabovski on the second line, apparently not.

Islanders Have Reunited Kulemin and Grabovski

News: Nikolai Kulemin has been playing on a line with Mikhail Grabovski during training camp, according to Islanders Point Blank.
Analysis: This was expected once the Islanders signed both in free agency. The pair had a productive season in 2010-11 playing together in Toronto and the Islanders are hoping to rekindle some of that magic on the second line.

Isles Add Kulemin To Forward Ranks

News: Nikolai Kulemin signed a four-year, $16.75 million contract with the Islanders on Wednesday, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: The Islanders outbid the Penguins for the services of Nikolai Kulemin, who figures to slot in one either the second or third line for New York. He compiled nine goals and 11 assists over 70 games for the Leafs in 2013-14, adding 153 hits and 63 blocks on the defensive end.

Leafs' Kulemin: UFA Headed To Pens?

News: Nikolai Kulemin, who is an unrestricted free agent on July 1, could be headed to Pittsburgh, reports the Toronto Sun. He is good friends with Evgeni Malkin and they have played together on the same line in Russia.
Analysis: Malkin has long raved about Malkin's abilities, but those talents only really manifested themselves one season in Toronto. The Leafs haven't really had an meaningful negotiations with Nikolai Kulemin's camp. And Pen's general manager Jim Rutherford -- when asked last Friday about Malkin's seeming unhappiness last season -- was quick to reply: "I'm going to try to make him happy on July 1." A move to the Pens would mean a big fantasy upgrade for the winger.

Leafs' Kulemin Finds Net Wednesday

News: Nikolai Kulemin collected his ninth goal of the season in Wednesday's loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: The 27-year-old found the net for the first time since Jan. 30, a span of 15 games. His scoring should stay relatively scarce while he remains outside of a top-six role.

Leafs' Kulemin Wants To Stay A Leaf

News: Nikolai Kulemin, whose game has picked up playing on the second line with Nazem Kadri and Joffrey Lupul, "would love to stay" with the Leafs, but knows he could be traded -- at the deadline or in the offseason -- because of pending free agency, reports the Toronto Sun.
Analysis: "I like everything here. It's the only team I have played for," said the winger. "I like the organization, the city, everything." Nikolai Kulemin has failed to live up to his 30-goal season from what feels like years ago, but he could still be looking for a raise on the $3-million he makes each year. And that would jettison him out of the Big Smoke fast.

Leafs' Kulemin: First Point In Eight Games

News: Nikolai Kulemin scored a sharp, high-glove goal on Ryan Miller in Wednesday's shootout win over the Sabres.
Analysis: His 30-goal season was clearly lightning in a bottle. This is his sixth goal and just his first point in his last eight games. He does deliver hits, so perhaps he does bring value to specialty formats. But there are probably other, more consistent options than a guy who'll likely finish with 20 points and 20 PIM.

Leafs' Kulemin Nets Another Winner

News: Nikolai Kulemin scored the game-winning goal Sunday against the Hurricanes.
Analysis: It's just his fifth goal of the season, albeit in 29 games given that ankle injury that kept him out. But remarkably, three of those five goals have been game winners. Go figure. He's been a fantasy disappointment in most formats -- you can probably find better options elsewhere.

Toronto's Kulemin Showing Signs Of Life

News: Nikolai Kulemin scored a goal and added an assist in Saturday's win over the Blackhawks. He has three points in his last two games and four in his last four.
Analysis: This is the first sign of life we've seen in the big winger this season. We're not ready to re-enter a relationship with him, but we're willing to listen.

Leafs' Kulemin Scores Goal In Loss

News: Nikolai Kulemin scored his second goal of the season during the Leafs' 3-2 overtime loss to the Sabres on Friday.
Analysis: The low-scoring but hard-hitting Nikolai Kulemin tallied his first point in four games and has been a bit of a disappointment for fantasy owners this season. He's got just the two goals and only three assists through 14 games this year.

Leafs' Kulemin: First Goal Of Season

News: Nikolai Kulemin scored his first goal of the season in Saturday's win over Buffalo. It stood up as the winner in a 4-2 victory.
Analysis: He now has three points in eight games this season. He needs to seriously pick up the production to prove his work to fantasy owners. Otherwise, he'll be soon known as a one-trick fantasy pony (hits).

News: Nikolai Kulemin (ankle) was activated from injured reserve Saturday, David Alter of Sportsnet 590 The Fan reports.

News: Nikolai Kulemin (ankle) will play Saturday, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.

Leafs' Kulemin (Ankle) Skates Friday

News: Nikolai Kulemin (ankle) skated during Friday's practice, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: He was on a regular line with Jay McClement and Joffrey Lupul during practice, a sign he's poised to return Saturday against the Canucks. He'd be a nice addition to the Leafs' forward ranks with Carter Ashton set to miss the next two games due to a suspension.

Leafs' Kulemin (Ankle) Close To Return

News: Nikolai Kulemin (ankle) may return to action later this week, reports the Toronto Star. "We'll see how it feels and we'll go from there," said Kulemin. "It's still sore, but it gets better every day. I do a lot in the gym."
Analysis: He's recovering from a broken bone in his foot that he suffered after taking a hard shot in practice. He was not wearing any supplemental foot protection, but will going forward. "Everybody is going to wear it now," said Nikolai Kulemin. "It's not a big difference. Maybe a difference on the turn. You get used to it."

Leafs' Kulemin Skates

News: Nikolai Kulemin (ankle) skated Wednesday, James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail reports.
Analysis: Head coach Randy Carlyle said previously that after Nikolai Kulemin began skating, he would likely need 7-10 days before he could be available again. Based on that prediction, Kulemin could return as early as October 30 against the Flames.
