Canes Recall Murphy

News: Mike Murphy will be recalled from AHL Charlotte on Friday, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: In the wake of Cam Ward sustaining a lower-body injury Thursday night that will keep him out for three-to-four weeks, Mike Murphy should immediately bring intrigue in deeper leagues that start multiple goalies. Though Justin Peters is expected to get the first crack at replacing Ward on a full-time basis, expect Murphy to get a long look as well with the team hoping one emerges as a hot goalie. However, Anton Khudobin could eventually displace either goalie from the No. 1 perch once he returns from injured reserve. Neither of the three will be a great starting option in shallower formats until somebody strings together some serviceable starts in Ward's absence.

News: Mike Murphy has been reassigned to AHL Charlotte, the Raleigh News & Observer reports.

Hurricanes Recall Murphy From Charlotte

News: The Hurricanes recalled Mike Murphy from AHL Charlotte on Thursday, the team's official site reports. He is expected to serve as the backup goaltender for Thursday night's preaseason game at Buffalo.
Analysis: The Hurricanes are pretty locked in at goalie with Cam Ward and Anton Khudobin, so Mike Murphy's time in the NHL will likely be short-lived. Look for him to get sent back down before the regular season.

Carolina's Murphy Headed To Russia

News: Mike Murphy announced via Twitter on Tuesday that he will leave the Hurricanes organization to play in the KHL for the upcoming season, Raleigh-Durham's News & Observer reports.
Analysis: After playing in just two games for Carolina this season, Mike Murphy will try his hand in Russia for 2012-2013. Though his chances of ever donning a 'Canes sweater again are slim, Carolina will retain the restricted free agent's NHL rights during his stint overseas.

Hurricanes Assign Murphy To AHL Charlotte

News: The Hurricanes assigned Mike Murphy to AHL Charlotte on Wednesday, the Charlotte News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Mike Murphy appeared in two games with the Hurricanes did not start. He will essentially switch roles with Justin Peters, the goalie who was called up to take his roster spot: Peters will become the backup behind Cam Ward, and Murphy will serve as the regular goaltender for Charlotte.

Murphy Debuts In Relief For 'Canes

News: Mike Murphy made his NHL debut late in the third period Tuesday against Calgary. He faced just two shots and stopped both of them while the 'Canes mounted a spirited comeback attempt, but in an unusual twist, he was stuck with the loss because Jarome Iginla's empty-netter came with Murphy as the goalie of record.
Analysis: When it rains, it pours, and it's certainly pouring on the Hurricanes' goalies this year. Cam Ward, who was pulled after allowing six goals, has had a brutal season, but Mike Murphy isn't being asked to step in and replace him. That said, the 22-year-old has put up good numbers in the AHL for three straight seasons now and was a quiet standout in junior hockey. Don't be surprised if the 'Canes find a way to work Murphy into a backup/timeshare role even after Brian Boucher returns from his injury.

Analysis: Mike Murphy was brought up on an emergency basis after Brian Boucher suffered a lower-body injury during Monday's practice. Boucher's status is uncertain, but if he can't suit up Tuesday, Murphy would be the team's backup goalie behind Cam Ward.
