Flames Trade Nemisz To Hurricanes

News: Greg Nemisz was traded from Calgary to Carolina on Monday, in exchange for 29-year-old forward Kevin Westgarth, TSN's Darren Dreger reports.
Analysis: The Flames will get some added depth for the NHL squad, while the Hurricanes receive a middling prospect in Greg Nemisz, who was selected 25th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Things haven't exactly panned out for Nemisz, as he's made just 15 NHL appearances, and has yet to top 33 points in an AHL season. The change of scenery could help but expectations are still relatively low. Nemisz will likely join the Hurricanes' AHL affiliate in Charlotte.

Flames sign '08 first-rounder Nemisz

News: The Flames signed 2008 first-round pick Greg Nemisz to an entry-level contract Tuesday. "It's an exciting time and it is step in the right direction," Nemisz said. The 19-year-old defenseman helped Winsdor (OHL) win the Memorial Cup last season by totaling 36 goals and 77 points in 65 games. "First and foremost I want to be a Calgary Flames," he said. "But I have to be real to myself. I have a lot of work to do. They are going to have a really strong team this year but I am going to try my hardest to make the team out of camp. But if I don't I want to play World Juniors and we have a good chance of going to the Memorial Cup again next year."
Analysis: Nemisz has all the makings to be a solid NHL power forward in the future. He plays well in front of the net and has soft hands. However, he does need to improve his skating before Calgary brings him up. Nemisz is a solid long-term Fantasy keeper, but that's about it at this time.
