Preds' Goalie Prospect Pickard Playing Well In Sweden

News: Chet Pickard, a first-round draft pick for the Preds in 2008, is currently 23-18 with a 2.14 goals against average and a .918 save percentage playing for Djurgarden in Sweden.
Analysis: Chet Pickard's latest stats are encouraging, considering his save percentage was below .900 in each of his first three professional seasons. Pickard still has a ways to go before he's considered NHL-worthy, but he's making strides nonetheless. In the meantime, Pekka Rinne owners need not fear Pickard stepping in and taking over the netminding duties in Nashville.

Preds' Pickard To Play In Sweden

News: Chet Pickard will play the 2012-13 season with Djurgarden, a team in Sweden's second tier, the Nashville Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Chet Pickard, a first-round pick in 2008, was 14-12-2 with Cincinnati of the ECHL in 2011-12 and has failed to register a save percentage above .900 in any of his pro campaigns. Unless he can yield better results, he likely won't sniff an opportunity in Nashville with Pekka Rinne holding down the fort.

Analysis: Chet Pickard heads to Milwaukee, with Admirals starter Jeremy Smith having been suspended due to his involvement in a Sunday brawl,

Nashville Calls Up Pickard

News: Nashville recalled Chet Pickard on Tuesday, Tennessean writer Joshua Cooper reports.
Analysis: We haven't heard of any issues with Pekka Rinne or Anders Lindback, so it's not clear at the moment why Nashville did this.

Preds' Prospect Pickard Struggles Early, Then Settles

News: Chet Pickard fought the puck a bit Saturday in exhibition action against the Winnipeg Jets. He allowed two goals on nine shots in the first period before being replaced to start the second. He then returned with 5:36 to play in the period.
Analysis: He then settled down and stopped all 13 shots he saw from that point on. He's coming off a horrific 2010-11 in the ECHL where he all but dropped off the Preds' radar with a 9-17-3 record and ugly 3.39 GAA and .877 save percentage. Hopefully his offseason regimen will salvage his career.

Preds' Pickard Aims To Impress At Rookie Camp

News: Chet Pickard changed his diet this summer, and focused more on quickness, agility, flexibility and explosiveness in his workouts, according to the Tennessean. He will have a chance to put his new tools on display this week at the Preds' rookie camp in Nashville.
Analysis: "I feel quicker, I feel I can get to rebounds quicker, I feel I can get across the net quicker, I can seal the ice better," Chet Pickard said. "I feel more athletic." Unfortunately for him, Anders Lindback will see the lion's share of work backing up Pekka Rinne this season, so Pickard's chances of cracking the roster are slim, indeed. However, it all starts with a good training camp and Pickard is out to put himself on the coaches' radar screen. Follow his progress closely.

Predators' Prospect Pickard Sent Packing

News: Pickard was assigned to AHL Milwaukee on Tuesday, the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Fellow rookies Mark Dekanich and Anders Lindback remain the current favorites in the battle for the #2 goalie job in Nashville this season. Also sent to Milwaukee on Tuesday were defensemen Brett Palin, Teemu Laakso and Grant Lewis, as well as forwards Kelsey Wilson and Andreas Thuresson.

Nashville's Pickard Fights for #2 Goalie Job

News: Pickard intends to battle for the Preds' backup goalie position in training camp starting this week, the Nashville Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Pickard, Nashville's first-round draft pick in 2008, will challenge Mark Dekanich for the right to back up Pekka Rinne this year. However, Dekanich is currently the favorite to win the job, based on his superior record in the AHL. Both Dekanich and Pickard played for the Milwaukee Admirals last season, but Dekanich had the better numbers. However, the fact that the Preds have not yet brought in a veteran goalie for the #2 job is a good sign as far as Pickard is concerned. "It's exciting when you look at TSN or NHL.com and you see that open spot and they haven't signed anyone," Pickard said. "It shows the organization believes that one of us [minor league guys] can do it. And that's all you can ask for, is that chance, and when you get the chance, you have to make the best of it."

Predators assign Pickard to AHL

News: The Predators have assigned goalie Chet Pickard to Milwaukee of the AHL. He did not appear in any preseason games.
Analysis: Pickard, a 2008 first-round pick, is in his first pro season after honing his skills the last four seasons as a junior hockey player. Pickard is one of the Predators' top prospects and considered the future in net. However, right now he needs to work on his game in the minors. Pickard is nothing more than a long-term Fantasy keeper.

Pickard has three shutouts in WHL

News: Predators goalie prospect Chet Pickard is 2-2-1 in five games for Tri-City (WHL) since returning from helping Canada win gold at the World Junior Championships. Pickard also has a 2.79 GAA and .903 save percentage in that span. For the season, he is 20-9-3 with a 2.55 GAA, .912 save percentage and three shutouts.
Analysis: Nashville swiped Pickard with the 18th pick in the 2008 draft. He was going back to Tri-City all along, but should turn pro in 2009-10. He will likely start the season with Milwaukee of the AHL, but could debut at some point. Still, he remains more of a long-term Fantasy keeper.
