Reimer Helps Carry Leafs To Shootout Win

News: James Reimer made 33 saves through overtime and then turned away all shooters in the shootout to help lead the Leafs to a 4-3 win over the Kings on Sunday night.
Analysis: It was James Reimer's second start in 11 games ... and his second win. Jonathan Bernier remains the clear starter, but Optimus Reims is delivering the way a quality backup should. Match-up play is your best path forward with him.

Leafs' Reimer Will Start Sunday

News: James Reimer will start Sunday against the Kings, David Alter of the Leafs' official site reports.
Analysis: James Reimer was expected to receive the start in net, and that has now been confirmed as the case. He will carry a .908 save percentage and 3.31 GAA into the game.

Leafs' Reimer Expected To Start Sunday

News: James Reimer is expected to start in net against the Kings on Sunday, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: James Reimer has made 10 appearances this season with a combined .908 save percentage. It's unlikely that this role as the starter will continue, however, as fellow goalie Jonathan Bernier is boasting a better save percentage at .920 over 22 games this season.

Leafs' Reimer Back On Ice Saturday

News: James Reimer (groin) was back on the ice for Saturday's morning skate, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: It sounds like James Reimer's removal from Friday's practice due to the groin ailment was mostly precautionary, as he'll be cleared to back up Jonathan Bernier for Saturday's tilt with the Red Wings. He's tentatively expected to make his return to the net for the second game of the Maple Leafs' back-to-back set Sunday versus the Kings.

Leafs' Reimer Tweaks Groin In Practice

News: Coach Randy Carlyle said James Reimer tweaked his groin in Friday's practice but believes it's only a minor concern for the goalie, Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun reports.
Analysis: Carlyle indicated that he is still tentatively planning to use both of his goalies for the Leafs' weekend back-to-back, though it looks like James Reimer will make his turn on Sunday against the Kings. He'll likely serve as Bernier's backup for Saturday's game against the Red Wings, though the Leafs would obviously prefer not to have to use him.

Reimer Steals Win For Leafs

News: James Reimer stole Wednesday's game against Detroit with a 41-save performance in a 2-1 shootout win.
Analysis: Man, he pulled this one out for his mates, who didn't find themselves in the offensive zone very often. He had zero rust on him, even after sitting and watching Jonathan Bernier get nine straight games. He's not likely to see much playing time, so that makes him most valuable as a handcuff to Bernier.

Maple Leafs' Reimer Makes Rare Start Wednesday

News: James Reimer will start Wednesday's game against the Red Wings, TSN's Jonas Siegel reports.
Analysis: James Reimer will give regular goaltender Jonathan Bernier his first night off in a while and take the ice Wednesday night for the first time since Nov. 18. He will need to shake off the rust quickly facing a Detroit team that has won nine of its last 11 games entering Wednesday's contest.

Maple Leafs' Reimer Likely To Go Wednesday

News: James Reimer is on track to start Wednesday's game against the Red Wings, TSN's Jonas Siegel reports.
Analysis: James Reimer has not officially been announced as Wednesday's starter, but with the Maple Leafs playing Tuesday and again a day later, it seems likely regular goaltender Jonathan Bernier will get the night off, and allow Reimer to start his first game since Nov. 18.

Leafs' Reimer Expected To Start Saturday

News: James Reimer is expected to start Saturday's game against the Canucks, according to a report on Toronto's Sportsnet 590 The FAN.
Analysis: It hasn't been confirmed, but it seems logical -- he hasn't seen action since mid-November and needs action. But the Orcas are looking to win their sixth game in seven. This is a risky play. The Leafs are surging, but Optimus Reims may be rusty. Use with caution.

Leafs' Reimer Pounded In Relief

News: James Reimer allowed six goals on 25 shots in relief Tuesday in a horrible 9-2 loss to the Predators.
Analysis: Both James Reimer and starter Jonathan Bernier were left high and dry all night long -- the Leafs were flat-out embarrassed on the night. None of this was on the goalies.

Leafs' Reimer Shaky In Loss To Buffalo

News: James Reimer allowed six goals on 35 shots in a 6-2 loss to the Sabres on Saturday night.
Analysis: Gulp. He was swimming around the crease -- let us correct that, he was swimming around beyond the crease all night long. Talk about being out of position AND out of shape. He wants to be the starter, but he has no chance with performances like that, particularly against the league's doormat.

Leafs' Reimer Confirmed For Saturday

News: James Reimer led the Maple Leafs on the ice for pregame warmups and will get the start in goal Saturday against the Sabres, Ben Koshan of the Toronto Sun reports.
Analysis: This much was expected after Jonathan Bernier started Friday's loss to the Penguins. James Reimer owns ugly ratios for his career against the Sabres (.903 save percentage, 3.22 GAA), but he's somehow managed to compile a 7-2-2 record over those outings.

Leafs' Reimer Expected To Start Saturday

News: James Reimer is likely to start Saturday's game against Buffalo, reports Jonas Siegel of TSN1050.
Analysis: He has a strong record against the lowly Sabres, so the start makes sense. And they don't exactly know how to score, so that sounds like a match made in heaven. Use him.

Reimer Backstops Leafs' Win With 38 Saves

News: James Reimer made 38 saves in a 5-3 win over Ottawa on Sunday night.
Analysis: He's been getting the bulk of the starts of late, but we're not convinced he has the stamina to keep it up. Or the talent to usurp Jonathan Bernier from the mantle of starter. But he's been a solid play since stepping into the blue paint -- use him when he's in there.

Leafs' Reimer In Net Sunday

News: James Reimer will start between the pipes for the Maple Leafs on Sunday, Jonas Siegel of TSN 1050 reports.
Analysis: James Reimer has accumulated a 9-2-1 record with a .944 save percentage over 13 appearances against the Senators, and will draw the start Sunday as expected from an earlier report.

Leafs' Reimer Likely To Start Sunday

News: James Reimer is expected to make the start in goal Sunday against the Senators, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: James Reimer has been better against the Senators than perhaps any opponent he's faced during his career, accumulating a 9-2-1 record, .944 save percentage and 1.98 GAA over 13 appearances. With another impressive outing against Ottawa on Sunday, Reimer should bolster his claim to a larger portion of the goalie timeshare with Jonathan Bernier.

Leafs' Reimer Stops 30 In Loss

News: James Reimer made 30 saves in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Coyotes.
Analysis: The 'Yotes went up 3-0 by the 6:34 point in the second period, and the Leafs couldn't recover. Optimus Reims has been solid in net, but expect Jonathan Bernier between the pipes next time out.

Leafs Go With Reimer On Tuesday

News: James Reimer will be in the net Tuesday against the Coyotes, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: It was generally thought that the Leafs would go with No. 1 goalie Jonathan Bernier on Tuesday, but coach Randy Carlyle apparently wanted to reward James Reimer for his spectacular 45-save outing in a win over the Blackhawks on Saturday. Reimer has seen more action than expected in the early stages of the season, and if he continues to excel to extent he has thus far (3-1 and 2.47 GAA over five outings), the Toronto goalie situation could turn into more of a timeshare than a strict starter/backup arrangement.

Leafs' Reimer: 45 Saves In Win Over Hawks

News: James Reimer delivered a strong performance between the pipes Saturday, turning away 45 shots in a 3-2 win over the visiting Blackhawks.
Analysis: He hadn't played for a couple weeks, but he sure didn't look rusty. He was pelted with pucks at times and battled through. We're not sure this will earn him more frequent starts, but it shows he can deliver in spot situations, even against elite teams.

Maple Leafs To Start Reimer On Saturday

News: James Reimer will be in the crease Saturday against the Blackhawks, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: James Reimer looked to be making a run at a larger portion of the goalie timeshare after notching three starts in a row for the Leafs two weeks earlier, but Jonathan Bernier has since restored order by playing superbly while receiving the past six nods. The backup will spell Bernier for the second game of a weekend back-to-back and doesn't represent an attractive streaming option against a formidable Blackhawks squad.

Leafs' Reimer: Eight Saves, No Goals

News: James Reimer entered Saturday's game in relief of starter Jonathan Bernier and stopped all eight shots he faced.
Analysis: The goalies were switched in an attempt to get the team in front of them a bit more stoked; it didn't work. The team was awful in front both goalies, but James Reimer looked calm and collected. He just might get the next start.

Wednesday's Game Postponed For Reimer, Leafs

News: James Reimer, who was expected to man the net for the Leafs in Wednesday's game against the Senators, will not play after the contest was postponed in light of the ongoing crisis in Ottawa, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Analysis: Multiple gunmen reportedly fired shots Wednesday morning in the downtown area of the Canadian capital, with one shooter dead and possibly one or more still at large. With several government buildings on lockdown, safety will understandably take greater precedence than proceeding with the game as scheduled. The NHL has yet to announce a make-up date for the postponed contest.

Maple Leafs' Reimer Makes 31 Saves In Loss

News: James Reimer made 31 saves on 35 shots in Friday's loss to Detroit.
Analysis: It wasn't a bad outing from James Reimer, who got little support from the Toronto team in front of him. The 26-year-old drops to 2-1-0 on the season, with a .906 save percentage and 2.87 goals-against average. Reimer, who was making his third straight start Friday, will give way to Jonathan Bernier for Saturday's games against the Red Wings.

Toronto Expected To Start Reimer On Friday

News: James Reimer worked in the starter's crease at morning skate and is expected to receive the nod Friday against the Red Wings, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: The start would mark James Reimer's third in a row, but it's probably not worthwhile to read too much into that just yet, since the Leafs were likely to split the weekend back-to-back starts with Reimer and Jonathan Bernier one way or the other. Still, Reimer's productive play thus far (2-0-0, 2.24 GAA, .920 save percentage) has made him more of a factor in the Toronto goaltending picture than was initially projected heading into the season, making Bernier's hold on the No. 1 gig a tenuous one.

Leafs' Reimer Saves 22, Wins Second

News: James Reimer made 22 saves in a 3-2 overtime win over the Avalanche on Tuesday night.
Analysis: He came up big when he had to and even survived a delay-of-game penalty when he fired the puck over the glass late in the third. He's won both of his games, so we expect he'll be seeing more playing time, at least in the short term.
