Leafs' Reimer Beaten Once In Loss

News: James Reimer gave up just one goal on 18 shots in Saturday's loss to the Flyers.
Analysis: It wasn't a bad outing from James Reimer, but the team couldn't score any goals, so it resulted in the 26-year-old's seventh straight loss. Considering the Leafs went 1-11-1 in the month of January, don't expect Reimer to be of much value when he gets the nod. His .907 save percentage and 3.19 GAA are concerning, so if there are other options out there, it wouldn't hurt to seek them out. The Leafs are falling fast, and Reimer and Jonathan Bernier aren't doing much to help.

Leafs Turn To Reimer For Saturday Start

News: James Reimer will be between the pipes for Saturday's match against the Flyers, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: Though regular starting goalie Jonathan Bernier's final numbers weren't terrible in the Leafs' last game against the Coyotes, he allowed a couple of inexcusable goals in the outing. As a result, Toronto will turn to James Reimer in an attempt to bust their ongoing losing skid, which sits at eight games. With a 3.32 GAA and .906 save percentage over 19 appearances, Reimer has been quite unreliable as a streaming option, and his career numbers in six outings against the Flyers (2-3-0, 3.11 GAA, .904 save percentage) don't inspire much confidence, either.

Leafs' Reimer: 22 Saves In Loss

News: James Reimer finished with 22 saves in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to Ottawa.
Analysis: He allowed three first-period goals, but then closed the door until late in the third. The Leafs' goalies are in tough with the team in the state its currently in. We have a hard time recommended either in this situation.

Leafs' Reimer To Start Wednesday

News: James Reimer will be in the net for Wednesday's outing against the Senators, Sportsnet 590 The FAN reports.
Analysis: James Reimer's entry into the lineup ahead of No. 1 goalie Jonathan Bernier doesn't come as a huge surprise given his outstanding success throughout his career against the Senators. He owns a 10-2-1 mark, 2.05 GAA and .942 save percentage across 14 appearances versus Ottawa, numbers that far outpace what he's typically posted during his five seasons with the Leafs.

Leafs' Reimer Solid In Relief

News: James Reimer turned away all 18 shots he faced after entering in the opening minute of the second period in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Starter Jonathan Bernier was lit up, but James Reimer used the relief appearance to turn in his second impressive performance in a row. That said, he still won't get many starts, and with a 3.27 GAA he's not a particularly reliable option between the pipes.

Leafs' Reimer Shows Courage Under Fire, But Loses

News: James Reimer was excellent in turning aside 39 of 41 shots, but ended up on the losing end Thursday against the Sharks.
Analysis: Two early San Jose goals proved too much for the Leafs to overcome even though James Reimer locked things down after that. It's a sharp outing, yeah, but it's also Reimer's fifth consecutive loss.

Leafs Roll With Reimer

News: James Reimer will start in net Thursday against the Sharks, Jonas Siegel of TSN 1050 reports.
Analysis: James Reimer will receive the start Thursday on the second night of back-to-back games. He made 35 saves despite taking a 5-1 loss in his last outing, but will look for better results Thursday after a long layoff between starts.

Leafs' Reimer Makes 35 Saves In Loss

News: James Reimer made 35 saves in a 5-1 loss to the Jets on Saturday night.
Analysis: The loss wasn't his -- he kept his mates in the game when they really shouldn't have been. The Leafs were at the end of a seven-game road trip in which they won just twice, so fatigue was obviously a factor.

Leafs' Reimer Starting Saturday

News: James Reimer will start Saturday against the Jets, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: As expected, James Reimer will get the call Saturday after Jonathan Bernier took the loss to Minnesota in the front half of a back-to-back set.

Leafs Likely To Go With Reimer On Saturday

News: James Reimer is likely to make the start in goal Saturday versus the Jets, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: With Jonathan Bernier confirmed as the starter for Friday's game against the Wild, expect coach Randy Carlyle to follow his usual pattern of leaning on his backup goalie for the other game of the back-to-back set. James Reimer has performed rather inconsistently this season, owning a 6-6-0 record and poor ratios (3.39 GAA, .905 save percentage) over his 15 appearances.

Leafs' Reimer: 38 Saves, But Surrenders Lead Again

News: James Reimer made 38 saves against Tampa Bay on Monday night, but like Sunday, he surrendered a two-goal lead and Toronto lost 3-2.
Analysis: Like Sunday, he also made some nifty saves, but the odds were stacked against him with such a powerful lineup bearing down on him. There is no word on Jonathan Bernier's return from illness, so expect James Reimer to protect the twine tent until Bernier gets back.

Maple Leafs' Reimer Starts Again Monday

News: James Reimer will be between the pipes for Monday's game against the Lightning, TSN's Jonas Siegel reports.
Analysis: James Reimer will start for the second consecutive game as regular goaltender Jonathan Bernier sits out again with an illness. He will face a stiff test Monday from a Tampa Bay squad that currently sits second in the NHL with 3.19 goals per game.

Leafs' Reimer To Start Sunday

News: James Reimer will start in net against the Panthers on Sunday, Steve Godstein of Fox Sports Florida reports.
Analysis: James Reimer will receive the start with Jonathan Bernier dealing with an illness. He will have Christopher Gibson as his backup Sunday, but he shouldn't be needed barring an injury. If Bernier's illness causes him to miss an extended time, Reimer should receive the lion's share of the starts in net in his absence.

Leafs' Reimer Can't Hold Lead In Third; Takes Loss

News: James Reimer made 28 saves in a 6-4 loss to Florida on Sunday night. He allowed five goals, three of which came in the third period.
Analysis: He and the Leafs entered the third with a 4-2 lead, but they couldn't withstand the Panthers' barrage. The loss aside, James Reimer will likely be back between the pipes Monday against the Lightning as Jonathan Bernier is down with some kind of illness. We're not sure we like that match up for Optimus Reims. He's a battler, but the Bolts have more firepower than the kitties.

Leafs' Reimer Gives Up Four In Loss to Chicago

News: James Reimer gave up four goals on 34 shots in Sunday's loss to the Blackhawks.
Analysis: It wasn't the best outing for James Reimer, who got no offensive support in the 4-0 loss. The 26-year-old is now 6-4-0 on the season with a .907 save percentage and 3.26 GAA. While he has only made 13 appearance this season, Reimer is still a decent fantasy option whenever starter Jonathan Bernier gets the night off.

Leafs' Reimer Will Start Sunday

News: James Reimer will start in net against Chicago on Sunday, Jason Siegel of TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: James Reimer has just 12 appearances on the season as he'll enter Sunday's contest allowing 3.19 goals per game. He'll be looking for his seventh win of the season and to improve on the .909 save percentage that he currently boasts.

Reimer Helps Carry Leafs To Shootout Win

News: James Reimer made 33 saves through overtime and then turned away all shooters in the shootout to help lead the Leafs to a 4-3 win over the Kings on Sunday night.
Analysis: It was James Reimer's second start in 11 games ... and his second win. Jonathan Bernier remains the clear starter, but Optimus Reims is delivering the way a quality backup should. Match-up play is your best path forward with him.

Leafs' Reimer Will Start Sunday

News: James Reimer will start Sunday against the Kings, David Alter of the Leafs' official site reports.
Analysis: James Reimer was expected to receive the start in net, and that has now been confirmed as the case. He will carry a .908 save percentage and 3.31 GAA into the game.

Leafs' Reimer Expected To Start Sunday

News: James Reimer is expected to start in net against the Kings on Sunday, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: James Reimer has made 10 appearances this season with a combined .908 save percentage. It's unlikely that this role as the starter will continue, however, as fellow goalie Jonathan Bernier is boasting a better save percentage at .920 over 22 games this season.

Leafs' Reimer Back On Ice Saturday

News: James Reimer (groin) was back on the ice for Saturday's morning skate, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: It sounds like James Reimer's removal from Friday's practice due to the groin ailment was mostly precautionary, as he'll be cleared to back up Jonathan Bernier for Saturday's tilt with the Red Wings. He's tentatively expected to make his return to the net for the second game of the Maple Leafs' back-to-back set Sunday versus the Kings.

Leafs' Reimer Tweaks Groin In Practice

News: Coach Randy Carlyle said James Reimer tweaked his groin in Friday's practice but believes it's only a minor concern for the goalie, Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun reports.
Analysis: Carlyle indicated that he is still tentatively planning to use both of his goalies for the Leafs' weekend back-to-back, though it looks like James Reimer will make his turn on Sunday against the Kings. He'll likely serve as Bernier's backup for Saturday's game against the Red Wings, though the Leafs would obviously prefer not to have to use him.

Reimer Steals Win For Leafs

News: James Reimer stole Wednesday's game against Detroit with a 41-save performance in a 2-1 shootout win.
Analysis: Man, he pulled this one out for his mates, who didn't find themselves in the offensive zone very often. He had zero rust on him, even after sitting and watching Jonathan Bernier get nine straight games. He's not likely to see much playing time, so that makes him most valuable as a handcuff to Bernier.

Maple Leafs' Reimer Makes Rare Start Wednesday

News: James Reimer will start Wednesday's game against the Red Wings, TSN's Jonas Siegel reports.
Analysis: James Reimer will give regular goaltender Jonathan Bernier his first night off in a while and take the ice Wednesday night for the first time since Nov. 18. He will need to shake off the rust quickly facing a Detroit team that has won nine of its last 11 games entering Wednesday's contest.

Maple Leafs' Reimer Likely To Go Wednesday

News: James Reimer is on track to start Wednesday's game against the Red Wings, TSN's Jonas Siegel reports.
Analysis: James Reimer has not officially been announced as Wednesday's starter, but with the Maple Leafs playing Tuesday and again a day later, it seems likely regular goaltender Jonathan Bernier will get the night off, and allow Reimer to start his first game since Nov. 18.

Leafs' Reimer Expected To Start Saturday

News: James Reimer is expected to start Saturday's game against the Canucks, according to a report on Toronto's Sportsnet 590 The FAN.
Analysis: It hasn't been confirmed, but it seems logical -- he hasn't seen action since mid-November and needs action. But the Orcas are looking to win their sixth game in seven. This is a risky play. The Leafs are surging, but Optimus Reims may be rusty. Use with caution.
