Leafs' Reimer Pounded In Relief

News: James Reimer allowed six goals on 25 shots in relief Tuesday in a horrible 9-2 loss to the Predators.
Analysis: Both James Reimer and starter Jonathan Bernier were left high and dry all night long -- the Leafs were flat-out embarrassed on the night. None of this was on the goalies.

Leafs' Reimer Shaky In Loss To Buffalo

News: James Reimer allowed six goals on 35 shots in a 6-2 loss to the Sabres on Saturday night.
Analysis: Gulp. He was swimming around the crease -- let us correct that, he was swimming around beyond the crease all night long. Talk about being out of position AND out of shape. He wants to be the starter, but he has no chance with performances like that, particularly against the league's doormat.

Leafs' Reimer Confirmed For Saturday

News: James Reimer led the Maple Leafs on the ice for pregame warmups and will get the start in goal Saturday against the Sabres, Ben Koshan of the Toronto Sun reports.
Analysis: This much was expected after Jonathan Bernier started Friday's loss to the Penguins. James Reimer owns ugly ratios for his career against the Sabres (.903 save percentage, 3.22 GAA), but he's somehow managed to compile a 7-2-2 record over those outings.

Leafs' Reimer Expected To Start Saturday

News: James Reimer is likely to start Saturday's game against Buffalo, reports Jonas Siegel of TSN1050.
Analysis: He has a strong record against the lowly Sabres, so the start makes sense. And they don't exactly know how to score, so that sounds like a match made in heaven. Use him.

Reimer Backstops Leafs' Win With 38 Saves

News: James Reimer made 38 saves in a 5-3 win over Ottawa on Sunday night.
Analysis: He's been getting the bulk of the starts of late, but we're not convinced he has the stamina to keep it up. Or the talent to usurp Jonathan Bernier from the mantle of starter. But he's been a solid play since stepping into the blue paint -- use him when he's in there.

Leafs' Reimer In Net Sunday

News: James Reimer will start between the pipes for the Maple Leafs on Sunday, Jonas Siegel of TSN 1050 reports.
Analysis: James Reimer has accumulated a 9-2-1 record with a .944 save percentage over 13 appearances against the Senators, and will draw the start Sunday as expected from an earlier report.

Leafs' Reimer Likely To Start Sunday

News: James Reimer is expected to make the start in goal Sunday against the Senators, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: James Reimer has been better against the Senators than perhaps any opponent he's faced during his career, accumulating a 9-2-1 record, .944 save percentage and 1.98 GAA over 13 appearances. With another impressive outing against Ottawa on Sunday, Reimer should bolster his claim to a larger portion of the goalie timeshare with Jonathan Bernier.

Leafs' Reimer Stops 30 In Loss

News: James Reimer made 30 saves in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Coyotes.
Analysis: The 'Yotes went up 3-0 by the 6:34 point in the second period, and the Leafs couldn't recover. Optimus Reims has been solid in net, but expect Jonathan Bernier between the pipes next time out.

Leafs Go With Reimer On Tuesday

News: James Reimer will be in the net Tuesday against the Coyotes, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: It was generally thought that the Leafs would go with No. 1 goalie Jonathan Bernier on Tuesday, but coach Randy Carlyle apparently wanted to reward James Reimer for his spectacular 45-save outing in a win over the Blackhawks on Saturday. Reimer has seen more action than expected in the early stages of the season, and if he continues to excel to extent he has thus far (3-1 and 2.47 GAA over five outings), the Toronto goalie situation could turn into more of a timeshare than a strict starter/backup arrangement.

Leafs' Reimer: 45 Saves In Win Over Hawks

News: James Reimer delivered a strong performance between the pipes Saturday, turning away 45 shots in a 3-2 win over the visiting Blackhawks.
Analysis: He hadn't played for a couple weeks, but he sure didn't look rusty. He was pelted with pucks at times and battled through. We're not sure this will earn him more frequent starts, but it shows he can deliver in spot situations, even against elite teams.

Maple Leafs To Start Reimer On Saturday

News: James Reimer will be in the crease Saturday against the Blackhawks, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: James Reimer looked to be making a run at a larger portion of the goalie timeshare after notching three starts in a row for the Leafs two weeks earlier, but Jonathan Bernier has since restored order by playing superbly while receiving the past six nods. The backup will spell Bernier for the second game of a weekend back-to-back and doesn't represent an attractive streaming option against a formidable Blackhawks squad.

Leafs' Reimer: Eight Saves, No Goals

News: James Reimer entered Saturday's game in relief of starter Jonathan Bernier and stopped all eight shots he faced.
Analysis: The goalies were switched in an attempt to get the team in front of them a bit more stoked; it didn't work. The team was awful in front both goalies, but James Reimer looked calm and collected. He just might get the next start.

Wednesday's Game Postponed For Reimer, Leafs

News: James Reimer, who was expected to man the net for the Leafs in Wednesday's game against the Senators, will not play after the contest was postponed in light of the ongoing crisis in Ottawa, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Analysis: Multiple gunmen reportedly fired shots Wednesday morning in the downtown area of the Canadian capital, with one shooter dead and possibly one or more still at large. With several government buildings on lockdown, safety will understandably take greater precedence than proceeding with the game as scheduled. The NHL has yet to announce a make-up date for the postponed contest.

Maple Leafs' Reimer Makes 31 Saves In Loss

News: James Reimer made 31 saves on 35 shots in Friday's loss to Detroit.
Analysis: It wasn't a bad outing from James Reimer, who got little support from the Toronto team in front of him. The 26-year-old drops to 2-1-0 on the season, with a .906 save percentage and 2.87 goals-against average. Reimer, who was making his third straight start Friday, will give way to Jonathan Bernier for Saturday's games against the Red Wings.

Toronto Expected To Start Reimer On Friday

News: James Reimer worked in the starter's crease at morning skate and is expected to receive the nod Friday against the Red Wings, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: The start would mark James Reimer's third in a row, but it's probably not worthwhile to read too much into that just yet, since the Leafs were likely to split the weekend back-to-back starts with Reimer and Jonathan Bernier one way or the other. Still, Reimer's productive play thus far (2-0-0, 2.24 GAA, .920 save percentage) has made him more of a factor in the Toronto goaltending picture than was initially projected heading into the season, making Bernier's hold on the No. 1 gig a tenuous one.

Leafs' Reimer Saves 22, Wins Second

News: James Reimer made 22 saves in a 3-2 overtime win over the Avalanche on Tuesday night.
Analysis: He came up big when he had to and even survived a delay-of-game penalty when he fired the puck over the glass late in the third. He's won both of his games, so we expect he'll be seeing more playing time, at least in the short term.

Maple Leafs' Reimer To Start Tuesday

News: James Reimer is on track to start Tuesday's game against the Avalanche, TSN's Mark Masters reports.
Analysis: James Reimer exited his last start Sunday with a head injury, but the setback did not cost him any practice time, and he looks to be Tuesday's starter after working in the home crease during the morning skate. Reimer will be looking for win number two on the season after picking up the victory in Sunday's contest.

Leafs' Reimer Practices

News: James Reimer (head) practiced with the team Monday, David Alter of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: This is a great sign for the Leafs, since James Reimer apparently didn't suffer a concussion in Sunday's win over the Rangers. He'll continue to serve as the backup to Jonathan Bernier for the time being.

Leafs' Reimer Hurt But Gets Win

News: James Reimer (head) stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced before leaving in the third period of the Leafs' 6-3 win over the Rangers Sunday with an apparent head injury.
Analysis: Filling in for Jonathan Bernier in the team's second game in as many days, James Reimer was solid in net before exiting. He reported feeling fine, so it appears it's not a very serious injury, but he was forced to leave the game to comply with the league's concussion protocol.

Leafs' Reimer (Head) Leaves Game

News: James Reimer left Sunday's game against the Rangers with an apparent head injury, TSN reports.
Analysis: The league's concussion protocol dictated that James Reimer leave the game, but he said later that he's "fine." He'll likely be tested to ensure that's the case, but the injury doesn't look to be anything overly serious at this point.

Leafs' Reimer Goes Distance, Allows Just Two Goals

News: James Reimer went the distance Monday in a 3-0 loss to Detroit. He stopped 16 of 18 shots.
Analysis: Both goals that beat him came on the power play, so it's hard to fault him on the night. The Leafs maintain that he has a shot at the starter's gig, but we're not holding our breath.

Leafs' Reimer: Will Compete For Starting Role

News: James Reimer was happy to re-sign in Toronto after being told during negotiations that there was a "definite opportunity" to regain his starting role, according to Toronto's Sportsnet590 The FAN.
Analysis: Optimus Reims told the station on Monday morning that management will give him a chance to win the starter's job. This comes as a surprise to us, especially given how Jonathan Bernier performed last season. Perhaps this comes down to semantics and the exact definition of opportunity. His contract is still tradeable, although the Buds don't have much of a backup plan in place to replace him. Stay tuned.

Leafs Agree To Two-Year Deal With Reimer

News: James Reimer agreed to a two-year, $4.6 million deal with Toronto on Friday, Toronto Sun writer Rob Longley reports.
Analysis: After posting a 19-8-5 record in 2012 to go along with a GAA of 2.46, James Reimer struggled last year, finishing with a GAA of 3.29 and a record of 12-16-1. The Leafs are banking on him returning to the form he showed in the three years before last, in which case he would be a useful backup to Jonathan Bernier.

Leafs' Reimer Files For Arbitration

News: James Reimer has filed for salary arbitration, reports Sportsnet360.
Analysis: He's coming off a three-year, $1.8 million deal and he's due a raise, regardless of what Leafs' fans think. It's clear he wants a one-year deal -- he can become a unrestricted free agent next summer -- while it will behoove the club to try to ink him to a team-friendly two- or three-year contract. James Reimer wants out of Hogtown, but we fully expect him to be at camp in September.

Leafs' Reimer On The Move?

News: James Reimer is thought to be looking to be traded by the Leafs, the Star reports.
Analysis: While the report relays that no trade is imminent, the continued presence of Jonathan Bernier presents a scenario in which a change of scenery might benefit James Reimer, who finished the 2013-14 season with a 3.29 GAA in 36 games.
