Flyers' Rinaldo Suspended Eight Games

News: Zac Rinaldo has been suspended for eight games by the NHL Department of Player Safety for boarding and charging Kris Letang in Tuesday's game against the Penguins.
Analysis: Zac Rinaldo had an in-person hearing for the incident which ultimately resulted in the eight-game suspension. The repeat offender will be off the ice until Feb. 17 against the Blue Jackets; Chris VandeVelde will likely take on a larger role at left wing for the time being.

Flyers' Rinaldo To Have In-Person Hearing

News: Zac Rinaldo will have an in-person hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Wednesday following his illegal check to the head of the Pens' Kris Letang in Tuesday's game, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.
Analysis: Zac Rinaldo picked up a 10-game misconduct and five-minute major penalty for the hit on Letang, who never returned to the game. Fortunately, Letang was able to resume skating Wednesday, which would work well in Rinaldo's favor to avoid a lengthy suspension, though the in-person hearing suggests he'll be on tap for at least a five-game ban. The bottom-six forward has a history of nefarious play, as he's previously been handed suspensions for illegal hits on two occasions over the last three seasons.

Flyers' Rinaldo Makes Return Saturday

News: Zac Rinaldo (upper body) will return to the lineup Saturday against the Devils, Sarah Baicker of CSN Philadelphia reports.
Analysis: Zac Rinaldo missed six consecutive games with the injury, but has been skating for the last couple of days and seemed to be just waiting for an opening to rejoin the lineup. That came when Scott Laughton suffered an injury Friday night and was ruled out for Saturday, allowing Rinaldo to claim his typical spot on the Flyers' fourth line.

Flyers' Rinaldo Sitting Again Friday

News: Zac Rinaldo (upper body) will miss his sixth straight game Friday against the Hurricanes, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Zac Rinaldo was on the ice for the team's morning skate, but didn't partake in line rushes, suggesting he'll be bound for the press box yet again. The Flyers will play again Saturday in New Jersey, so it's possible Rinaldo could be called upon to make his return for that game in an attempt to spell another forward for the second half of the back-to-back set.

Flyers Rule Rinaldo Out For Tuesday

News: Zac Rinaldo (upper body) will not play Tuesday against the Wild, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Zac Rinaldo was able to take part in the Flyers' morning skate, but didn't show enough progress with his recovery from the injury to make coach Craig Berube comfortable with using him. Chris VandeVelde will occupy his spot in the lineup for the second straight game.

Flyers' Rinaldo (Upper Body) Listed As Day-To-Day

News: Zac Rinaldo (upper body) is considered day-to-day with the possibility that he might be available Tuesday against the Wild, Sam Carchidi of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Zac Rinaldo suffered an upper-body injury against the Maple Leafs on Saturday but it's not believed to be serious. He will be monitored during Monday's practice to determine his status for Tuesday.

Flyers' Rinaldo Suffers Upper-Body Injury

News: Zac Rinaldo left Saturday's game against the Maple Leafs with an upper-body injury and will not return, the Courier-Post's Dave Isaac reports.
Analysis: Brayden Schenn jumped into Zac Rinaldo's spot in the second period and will finish this game out. Rinaldo should be considered day-to-day until we know more, but the Flyers have a quick turnaround before hitting the ice again Sunday against the Jets.

Flyers' Rinaldo All Quiet On Points Front

News: Zac Rinaldo boasts a solitary point this season, although his 37 PIM rank in the league's top 50.
Analysis: The tormenter has been averaging around eight and a half minutes per game, though his motives are clearly not offensive. Unless you have a desperate need for PIM, Zac Rinaldo remains a weak play in most leagues.

Flyers' Rinaldo Collects First Point of Season

News: Zac Rinaldo assisted on a second-period goal in Tuesday's win over Edmonton.
Analysis: The enforcer has 15 PIM on the season, and that stat should be the only reason Zac Rinaldo finds a slot on most fantasy rosters.

Flyers' Rinaldo Will Play Tuesday

News: Zac Rinaldo (upper body) will return to the lineup Tuesday against the Kings, Sarah Bocker of CSN Philadelphia reports.
Analysis: Zac Rinaldo's injury turned out to be a minor one, so the winger will return to the lineup Tuesday. Rinaldo has six PIM so far this season, but has yet to record a point through seven games.

Flyers' Rinaldo Out Saturday

News: Zac Rinaldo (upper body) has been ruled out of Saturday's game against the Red Wings, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Zac Rinaldo's absence from Friday's practice was enough to convince the Flyers that he wouldn't be ready to go for the tilt with the Red Wings. He could return to the ice over the next day or two to give him a better shot at playing Tuesday against the Kings, but expect the ailing Flyers to recall a forward from the minors over the weekend as insurance.

Flyers' Rinaldo Considered Day-to-Day

News: Zac Rinaldo (upper body) did not practice Friday, CSN's Sarah Baicker reports.
Analysis: Zac Rinaldo will be held out due to the upper-body injury he suffered in Wednesday's game. He is considered day-to-day, so it seems there is a chance he will play in the Flyers' next game Saturday against the Red Wings.

Flyers' Rinaldo Exits With Upper Body Injury

News: Zac Rinaldo suffered an upper body injury in Wednesday's game and is unlikely to return, Wes Crosby of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: The extent of Zac Rinaldo's setback is uncertain, but expect an update on his status as more details become available.

Flyers, Rinaldo Agree To Two-Year Extension

News: Zac Rinaldo agreed to a two-year, $1.7 million extension with the Flyers on Tuesday.
Analysis: Because Zac Rinaldo previously agreed to a two-year deal with the Flyers last April, the extension will keep him on the books through the next three seasons. He proved to be a key cog on the Flyers' checking line in 2013-14, totaling 231 hits and 153 penalty minutes while averaging just 7:41 per ice time. He's shown little scoring acumen during his time in Philadelphia, but few players in the NHL offer more physicality at the forward spot.

Flyers' Rinaldo Suspended Four Games

News: Zac Rinaldo has been suspended for four games by the NHL's Department of Player Safety, Sarah Baicker of CSN Philadelphia reports.
Analysis: Zac Rinaldo was suspended for his hit to the head on the Sabres' Chad Ruhwedel during Sunday's contest. With only four games remaining on the Flyers' schedule, Rinaldo have to wait for the postseason to get back in the lineup.

Flyers' Rinaldo Could Face NHL Discipline

News: Zac Rinaldo is slated to have a hearing with the NHL on Monday following a hit that he delivered to the head of Buffalo's Chad Ruhwedel on Sunday, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: As a result, Zac Rinaldo, who scored a goal and racked up 16 PIM on Sunday, seems likely to face a suspension in the coming days. Overall, Rinaldo has recorded four points and 153 PIM (fourth in the league) in 67 games to date.

Flyers' Rinaldo Sees More Minutes, Snags Assist

News: Zac Rinaldo collected an assist and five hits in over 11 minutes of ice time in Friday's 4-2 win over Toronto.
Analysis: Zac Rinaldo rarely sees over 10 minutes of ice time -- it happened just nine times in his previous 61 games. So what changed? Vincent Lecavalier. Coach Craig Berube shifted Lecavalier to the fourth line, centering Rinaldo and Adam Hall. The move boosted Lecavalier, who scored in the game, and it could spell more ice time going forward for Rinaldo.

Flyers' Rinaldo Still Bruising Opponents

News: Though he hasn't notched a point since January (he has just two this season), Zac Rinaldo has been steadily collecting PIM.
Analysis: He now has 124 PIM, good enough for seventh in the league. He collected five more Tuesday in a 3-2 win over Chicago, adding two hits for good measure. His productivity in the PIM and hits categories are impressive, especially given his limited ice time. If your league awards for those categories, Zac Rinaldo is a must-have.

Flyers' Rinaldo Will Play Saturday

News: Zac Rinaldo (upper body) says he will play Saturday vs. the Penguins, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: After Zac Rinaldo was able to practice Thursday without incident, it appears coach Craig Berube is content to insert him back in the lineup after missing just one contest. With 170 hits and 117 penalty minutes on the campaign, Rinaldo provides needed physicality on the fourth line for the Flyers.

Flyers' Rinaldo Returns To Practice

News: Zac Rinaldo (upper body) took part in Thursday's practice, Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly reports.
Analysis: Zac Rinaldo missed Tuesday's game against the Devils with the upper-body injury. His return to practice bodes well for his chances of suiting up Saturday vs. the Penguins, but Chris VandeVelde remains on hand to take Rinaldo's spot in the lineup if he endures a setback over the next couple of days.

Flyers' Rinaldo Out With Injury On Tuesday

News: Zac Rinaldo has an upper-body injury and will not play Tuesday vs. the Devils, Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly reports.
Analysis: This would explain why Chris VandeVelde was recalled from AHL Adirondack earlier in the day. The extent of Zac Rinaldo's injury is not immediately available, but with only two points in 54 games this season, the fourth-liner won't be missed in too many fantasy formats.

Flyers' Rinaldo: Hit-Machine In Win

News: Zac Rinaldo collected six hits in just over eight minutes of ice time in Saturday's 2-0 win.
Analysis: It's back to normal for Zac Rinaldo, who has been a PIM-machine this year. Unfortunately, none of those six hits inspired the refs to send him to the sin bin tonight. Fear not, though: he's still ninth in the league in that category, even after spending over 20 days on the injured reserve. His ugly minus-12 rating isn't enough to keep him from most lineups.

Flyers Activate Rinaldo

News: Zac Rinaldo (ankle) was activated from injured reserve Thursday.
Analysis: As expected, Chris VandeVelde's demotion to the minors paves the way for Zac Rinaldo to return to the lineup for the first time since Jan. 8. With just two points and a minus-12 rating in 44 games, Rinaldo shouldn't warrant any fantasy attention outside of leagues that count hits (135) and penalty minutes (101).

Flyers' Rinaldo Expected To Play Thursday

News: Zac Rinaldo (ankle) is expected to play Thursday against the Ducks, Sarah Baicker of CSN Philadelphia reports.
Analysis: Zac Rinaldo looks like he's ready to return to the lineup well ahead of schedule. He was supposed to miss six weeks with a high ankle sprain, but will end up suiting up after just three. The winger played 44 games for the Flyers before being injured, and recorded two points and 101 PIM over that span.

Flyers' Rinaldo Not Ready Yet

News: Zac Rinaldo (ankle) will not play Tuesday against the Red Wings, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Zac Rinaldo resumed practicing with the team late last week, and it sounds like he may beat the six-week timetable initially established for his return by a significant margin. The 23-year-old suffered the high-ankle sprain less than three weeks ago, however, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he missed at least a few more games.
