Canucks' Sbisa Out For Worlds

News: Luca Sbisa will not play for Switzerland in May's World Championships due to knee soreness, Jim Jamieson of the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: Rather than risk further injury in the showcase tournament, Luca Sbisa will take the summer off to recuperate after playing in 76 regular season and six postseason games for the Canucks in 2014-15. The blueliner contributed only 13 points across those contests, but his reliable play in his own zone earned him a three-year contract extension earlier this month. He should enter training camp in the fall at full health.

Canucks' Sbisa Inks Three-Year Deal

News: Luca Sbisa signed a three-year, $10.8 million contract with the Canucks on Wednesday.
Analysis: Luca Sbisa's contract will keep him with the team through the 2017-18 season. Although he's only accumulated 11 points through 74 games with the Canucks this season, the club seems committed to keep him part of their plans in the future with the contract.

Canucks' Sbisa Plays Monday

News: Luca Sbisa (undisclosed) ended up playing in Monday's shootout win over the Kings, skating 18:03 on the night.
Analysis: Luca Sbisa was questionable heading into the contest after he was hit into the boards during the Canucks' previous game. However, he ended up turning in a productive performance Monday, finishing with four shots on goal to go along with a plus-1 rating.

Canucks' Sbisa Banged Up

News: Luca Sbisa suffered an injury during Saturday's game against the Jets, Jim Jamieson of the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: Luca Sbisa was given a maintenance day Sunday after he collided with the end boards during Saturday's game. If the injury prevents Sbisa from playing in Monday's game against the Kings, Ryan Stanton would likely take his spot in the lineup.

Canucks' Sbisa Gathers Assist

News: Luca Sbisa collected a secondary assist in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Flyers.
Analysis: Luca Sbisa will show up on the scoresheet close to once every six games on average, and he remains a depth defenseman for the Canucks.

Canucks' Sbisa Assists Twice In Win

News: Luca Sbisa gathered two assists over 18:09 of ice time in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Blackhawks.
Analysis: It's the first multi-point game of the year for Luca Sbisa, who has only three goals and four helpers across 47 games. The absences of Kevin Bieksa (hand) and Frank Corrado (illness) have Sbisa's minutes on the rise, but he's unlikely to provide a dramatic uptick in scoring as a result of the increased ice time.

Canucks' Sbisa Ends Overtime Early

News: Luca Sbisa made Tuesday's overtime session last just 36 seconds, putting the game-winner past Ondrej Pavelec for his third goal of the year.
Analysis: There aren't many unlikelier heroes, as the 25-year-old blueliner skated just over 15 minutes in the game and hadn't recorded a point since Nov. 28, with his last goal having come more than three months ago on the first day of November.

Canucks' Sbisa Sees Plus/Minus Take A Hit

News: Luca Sbisa went minus-4 over his 17:21 of ice time in Saturday's loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: Yikes -- that puts Luca Sbisa at minus-8 over just his last four games, all of which have been losses for the Canucks. It probably has more to do with bad luck than any shortcomings he's shown defensively, but it certainly won't help his chances of becoming an attractive fantasy option from the blue line.

Canucks' Sbisa Struggles Defensively In Loss

News: Luca Sbisa dished out three hits in 18:10 of ice time in Sunday's loss to Detroit.
Analysis: It wasn't the best outing for Luca Sbisa, who collected a minus-2 rating in the loss. With Dan Hamhuis (lower body) out until after Christmas, Sbisa has seen increased ice time and is expected to take on a larger role on the blueline. After going pointless in his first seven games, Sbisa has since recorded two goals and four points in his last 12 games. He's a depth defenseman that could get notch around 20 points this season.

Canucks' Sbisa Deemed Healthy

News: Luca Sbisa was cleared to return to the lineup in advance of Wednesday's victory over the Oilers, the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: It appears coach Willie Desjardins simply chose to make Luca Sbisa a healthy scratch for the game, a move that paid off when his replacement, Yannick Weber, produced two points in the victory. Sbisa enjoyed a regular role for the Canucks prior to missing the previous three games with an undisclosed injury, but Weber's successes could force Sbisa to the press box with greater frequency.

Canucks' Sbisa Practices

News: Luca Sbisa (undisclosed) practiced with the team Monday morning, Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: It appears the team's five days of rest have been good for Luca Sbisa, as he looks probable to return to the lineup Wednesday against the Oilers. The blueliner has two goals and an assist in 14 games to date.

Canucks' Sbisa Likely Out Friday

News: Luca Sbisa (undisclosed) didn't take part in Friday's morning skate and figures to miss his third straight game.
Analysis: Luca Sbisa hasn't resumed practicing since suffering the unknown injury last Saturday against the Kings, but there's a possibility he might be able to make his return in the team's very next game. With the Canucks off the schedule until Nov. 19, Sbisa will have five days to draw closer to full health and convince the team's medical staff that he's ready to play.

Canucks' Sbisa Ruled Out Tuesday

News: Luca Sbisa (undisclosed) will not play Tuesday against the Senators, Elliott Pap of the Vancouver Sun reports.
Analysis: None of the Canucks' five injured skaters felt well enough to take part in the team's morning skate, so coach Willie Desjardins will stick with the same lineup he used Sunday against the Ducks. With Luca Sbisa unavailable, Yannick Weber is expected to join Dan Hamhuis once again on the team's third pairing.

Canucks' Sbisa (Undisclosed) Out Sunday

News: Luca Sbisa will miss Sunday's game due to an undisclosed injury, Eric Stephens of the OC Register reports.
Analysis: The nature of Luca Sbisa's condition is unknown, but he'll miss his first game of the season after playing more than 18 minutes Saturday. Consider him day-to-day going forward.

Sbisa Starting To Produce In Vancouver

News: Luca Sbisa scored his second goal of the season in Saturday's win over Edmonton.
Analysis: Luca Sbisa now has three points (two goals) in his last four games, recording a plus-2 rating in that span. He's on Vancouver's third defensive pairing, though, averaging only 16:32 of ice time per game. Given the fact he doesn't play on the power play, don't expect Sbisa to keep producing at this recent pace. He will likely end up with around 20 points in 2014-15.

Sbisa Scores First Goal With Canucks

News: Luca Sbisa scored his first goal of the season in Sunday's win over Washington.
Analysis: It was also the first point of the season for Luca Sbisa, and quite the bounce back for the young blueliner after he took a minus-5 rating in Friday's loss to the Avalanche. Considering he is on the team's third defensive pairing and seeing no power-play time, don't count expect Sbisa to produce much offense in his first season with Vancouver.

Ducks Trade Sbisa To Canucks

News: The Ducks have traded Luca Sbisa, Nick Bonino, and the 24th pick in Friday's draft to the Canucks in exchange for Ryan Kesler, ESPN's Pierre LeBrun reports.
Analysis: Injuries plagued Luca Sbisa's 2013-14 campaign and limited him to 30 games -- his lowest total since the 2009-10 season. However, he is a former first-rounder and is just 24 years old, so he still has some upside. He will have a good shot at earning a top-six defenseman role with his new squad.

Ducks' Sbisa Returns From Injury

News: Luca Sbisa (upper body) returned to the ice Sunday against the Avalanche. He saw 17:21 of ice time following his two-game stint in the press box.
Analysis: Luca Sbisa proved active on both sides of the ice on his return, attempting three shots on offense while blocking three shots defensively. While Sbisa is seemingly healthy, the Ducks boast a good deal of depth on the blue line, making him something of a risk to be scratched on occasion during the postseason.

Ducks' Sbisa Sits Wednesday With Injury

News: Luca Sbisa missed Wednesday's game against the Sharks with an upper-body injury, the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: Luca Sbisa's absence was lessened by the return of top blueliner Cam Fowler, who had missed the last three weeks of action with a leg injury. With the Ducks close to full strength on defense now, it might have been difficult for Sbisa to find regular ice time, even if he weren't dealing with the injury.

Sbisa Scores In Ducks' Win

Ducks' Sbisa No Longer Plagued By Knee Issue

News: Luca Sbisa (knee) is expected to be available for Wednesday's game vs. the Flames, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Coach Bruce Boudreau said Luca Sbisa and Mathieu Perreault (forearm) are both ready to return to action, but there's only room in the lineup for one player Wednesday. Although the report anticipates Perreault will enter the lineup Tuesday, Sbisa's fantasy owners can probably consider the blueliner healthy at this point.

Ducks' Sbisa Resumes Skating

News: Luca Sbisa (knee) was on the ice for morning skate Monday, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Luca Sbisa won't play in Monday's game vs. the Maple Leafs, but his presence on the ice bodes well for his chances of joining the Ducks on their upcoming three-game road trip. He first suffered the knee injury in Friday's loss to the Penguins.

Ducks' Sbisa Won't Play On Monday

News: Luca Sbisa (knee) won't play Monday against the Maple Leafs, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Luca Sbisa is dealing with a left knee injury that he sustained Friday against the Penguins. With two assists in 17 games to date to go along with a minus-7 rating, Sbisa's fantasy impact thus far has been limited to the 35 PIM he has recorded in that span.

Ducks' Sbisa Leaves Friday With Lower-Body Injury

News: Luca Sbisa did not return to the bench for the second period of Friday's game due to a lower-body injury and is doubtful to return.
Analysis: No other details were given with regard to the injury, but not returning to the ice doesn't sound too promising. Consider him day-to-day for now and expect the Ducks to update his condition over the weekend.

Ducks' Sbisa Returning Tuesday

News: Luca Sbisa (hand) will play Tuesday against the Wild, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Luca Sbisa has been out for more than two months with the torn tendon in his right hand, but he'll step back onto the ice Tuesday to face Minnesota. While the 23-year-old put up 25 penalty minutes in nine games prior to the injury, he really didn't help fantasy owners anywhere else, with just one assist and a minus-5 rating.
