Sabres' Strachan Healthy, But Will Be Scratched

News: Tyson Strachan (illness) will be a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game against the Lightning.
Analysis: Tyson Strachan first suffered an infection Feb. 22, but it appears he's been healthy for the last couple of days. However, with the Sabres receiving sound play from Andrej Meszaros of late, coach Ted Nolan will stick with the same defensive lineup he used Saturday against the Panthers.

Sabres' Strachan Practicing Monday

News: Tyson Strachan (illness) participated in Monday's practice.
Analysis: Tyson Strachan has missed the last four games with an infection, but his presence on the ice at practice suggests he might be a lineup option for Tuesday's game against the Lightning. Expect coach Ted Nolan to clarify Strachan's status after the Sabres conduct their morning skate Tuesday.

Sabres' Strachan Likely To Sit Saturday

News: Tyson Strachan (infection) was at practice Friday but is "likely" to sit out Saturday, reports the Olean Times Herald.
Analysis: Tyson Strachan has missed his previous three games and will likely miss his fourth Saturday against Florida. Mark Pysyk was demoted to AHL Rochester earlier, which suggested Strachan will return to the lineup, but it seems as though Nikita Zadorov is the one who will draw in. Strachan is considered day-to-day and should be available after the weekend. The veteran defenseman has very limited fantasy value.

No Strachan For Sabres In Columbus

News: Tyson Strachan missed Sunday's game with an illness and didn't travel with the team to Columbus, reports John Vogl of The Buffalo News.
Analysis: There is no timetable for Tyson Strachan's return, which means recent call-ups Mark Pysyk and Jake McCabe will likely play again. Strachan has served in a depth role for much of the season, appearing in 31 games and recording five assists with a minus-16 rating. The Sabres return home to face Vancouver on Thursday, so it's likely Strachan's status will be updated then.

Sabres' Strachan Out Sunday

News: Tyson Strachan got an infection overnight and will miss Sunday's game against the Predators.
Analysis: The type of infection Tyson Strachan has is unclear at this point, but it will force him to miss at least Sunday's contest. The blueliner has just five points and a minus-16 rating through 31 games this year, and should be considered day-to-day until further information is revealed on the situation. Strachan's next chance to return will come Tuesday against the Blue Jackets.

Sabres Bench Strachan Against Ottawa

News: Tyson Strachan will sit out Tuesday's game against Ottawa, reports Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Tyson Strachan has five assists in 30 games, and despite providing a rather strong defensive presence over his last four games, including 15 blocked shots, he'll sit in the press box in favor of Andrej Meszaros. Head coach Ted Nolan likely wants to light a fire under Meszaros's pants by playing him against his former team. No matter who's in the lineup, the Sabres have had trouble keeping the puck out of the net all season. Swapping Strachan for Meszaros likely won't make much of a difference against Ottawa.

Sabres' Strachan Removed From IR

News: Tyson Strachan (upper body) is no longer in injured reserve, The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Tyson Strachan is now healthy enough to play, but coach Ted Nolan held the defenseman out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Senators. Strachan likely has some more healthy scratches in his immediate furture.

Sabres' Strachan Close To Return

News: Tyson Strachan (lower body) said after Saturday's practice that he is "pretty close" to a return to the Buffalo lineup, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: Tyson Strachan was able to take part in the Sabres' gameday skate, but coach Ted Nolan didn't feel comfortable reinserting him into the lineup for the match later in the evening against the Islanders. Fortunately, the Sabres will welcome Mike Weber (knee) back into the lineup, which won't force the team to recall an extra defenseman while Strachan and Tyler Myers (lower body) remain out for another contest.

Sabres Place Strachen (Lower Body) On IR

News: Tyson Strachan (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Sunday, Mike Harrington of Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Tyson Strachan returned from a lower body injury for two games before apparently aggravating the issue. However, his placement on the IR is retroactive to Dec. 16, meaning he could be available for the Sabres' game Tuesday against the Red Wings.

Sabres' Strachan (Lower Body) Out Saturday

News: Tyson Strachan (lower body) will not play in Saturday's game against the Avalanche, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: Tyson Strachan hasn't been able to practice for the last couple of days while tending to the lower-body injury, so he'll take Saturday's game off to recuperate. Josh Gorges (undisclosed) will rejoin the lineup in his place.

Sabres' Strachan Misses Two Straight Practices

News: Tyson Strachan (lower body) missed his second straight practice Friday.
Analysis: Coach Ted Nolan described Tyson Strachan's absence Thursday as being for "maintenance purposes," but back-to-back no-shows raise concern about his availability for Saturday's game against the Avalanche. His status likely won't be known until the Sabres conduct their gameday skate Saturday morning.

Sabres' Strachan Ready To Go

News: Tyson Strachan (lower body) is ready to go for Monday's game against the Senators.
Analysis: Tyson Strachan has missed about a week with the injury, but all signs point toward a return Monday. The blueliner has no goals and four assists through 16 games so far this season.

Sabres' Strachan Aiming For Monday

News: Tyson Strachan (lower body) is aiming for a return to the lineup Monday against the Senators, Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Tyson Strachan skated with the Sabres on Saturday morning for the first time since suffering the injury and is now being viewed as day-to-day. If he's able to get in a full practice Sunday, it might be enough for coach Ted Nolan to reinsert him in the lineup.

Sabres' Strachan Still 'A Ways Away' From Return

News: Coach Ted Nolan said after Wednesday's practice that Tyson Strachan (undisclosed) was "still a little ways away" from a return.
Analysis: Nolan's words would seem to rule out Tyson Strachan as an option for Thursday's game against the Flames. Either Andre Benoit or Andre Meszaros would likely get the call to replace him in the lineup.

Sabres' Strachan Likely Out Tuesday

News: Tyson Strachan (undisclosed) didn't take part in Tuesday's morning skate and looks like he'll miss the Sabres' game against the Kings, John Vogl of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: It was believed that Tyson Strachan would be good to go for Tuesday after taking a maintenance day Monday, but it appears he didn't make as much progress as coach Ted Nolan had anticipated. Look for Andre Benoit to substitute in for him on the Sabres' third pairing.

Sabres' Strachan Probable For Tuesday

News: Tyson Strachan will likely play Tuesday, reports The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Tyson Strachan missed Monday's practice but head coach Ted Nolan indicated that he's likely a go for Tuesday. Strachan has served as a depth defensemen for a young Sabres team and has been playing lots of minutes with the team's other veteran defensemen sidelined for stretches. In 16 games this year Strachan has four assists and a minus-6 rating. He has little to no fantasy value.

Sabres' Strachan Picks Up Two Helpers Sunday

News: Tyson Strachan was credited with two assists in Sunday's win over the Red Wings.
Analysis: Tyson Strachan was a healthy scratch for all but one of the Sabres' first 10 games, but he's played in appeared in each of the last three contests, filling in for Andrej Meszaros twice and Andre Benoit on Sunday. His strong showing against the Wings will most likely lock Strachan into the lineup on a regular basis, as it was by the far the best offensive output by any Sabres defenseman all season. Illustrating the vast ineptitude of the Sabres' defensive ranks, Strachan's two points matched the entire combined point total of the team's other seven blueliners over Buffalo's first 13 games.

Strachan Likely To Dress For Sabres Again

News: Tyson Strachan "will likely play again" on Saturday, reports the Olean Times Herald.
Analysis: It will be Tyson Strachan's third game for the Sabres, who has one assist on the season. The 30-year-old journeyman is nothing more than a depth player for the Sabres after signing a one-year contract with them this summer. Head coach Ted Nolan continues to go for experience over youth and talent by playing Strachan over Nikita Zadorov.

Sabres Sign Strachan

News: Tyson Strachan signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Sabres on Thursday, Ryan Rishaug of TSN reports.
Analysis: The Sabres continue to stick more resources into shoring up their shoddy defense, as Tyson Strachan will join newly acquired blueliners Andrej Meszaros and Josh Gorges in Buffalo. Strachan won't have a guaranteed roster spot with the Sabres like those guys will, but he'll get to compete for a job as the club's sixth or seventh defenseman during training camp.

Caps Reassign Strachan

News: Tyson Strachan was reassigned to AHL Hershey on Tuesday.
Analysis: With the Capitals' season now completed, Tyson Strachan will head back to the minors to get some action before the AHL schedule comes to a close. Strachan supplied two assists and 28 penalty minutes over his 18 games with the Capitals this season.

Capitals Recall Strachan

News: The Capitals recalled Tyson Strachan from AHL Hershey on Friday, Katie Carrera of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Tyson Strachan appeared in 12 games with the Capitals earlier this season. Don't expect much from him fantasy-wise, as he has tallied just one assist and 24 PIM while posting a minus-5 rating at the NHL level this season.

Caps Send Strachan To AHL

News: Tyson Strachan has been re-assigned to AHL Hershey, Mike Vogel of the Capitals' official site reports.
Analysis: Tyson Strachan, who has recorded one assist in 24 PIM in 12 games with the big club to date, figures to be back at some point down the road when the Caps are looking to bolster their blue line depth.

Capitals' Strachan Recalled On Emergency Basis

News: Tyson Strachan was recalled from AHL Hershey on an emergency basis Friday, Mike Vogel of the Capitals' official site reports.
Analysis: Mike Green (upper body) is iffy for Friday's game, so the Caps brought Tyson Strachan up to be safe. Strachan hasn't recorded a point in nine games with the NHL club this season, but he has chipped in 14 points (2G, 12A) with a plus-14 rating with Hershey.

Caps' Strachan Sent Down

News: Tyson Strachan was reassigned to AHL Hershey on Thursday.
Analysis: Tyson Strachan has averaged close to 16 minutes in his nine games this season, but hasn't scored a point and is sitting on a minus-4 rating. The team will give 22-year-old Patrick Wey some experience at the highest level while Strachan tries to get on track.

Caps Recall Strachan

News: Tyson Strachan was recalled from AHL Hershey on Wednesday, Katie Carrera of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Tyson Strachan is expected to be in the lineup Wednesday, working as a defensive pair with Nate Schmidt. The blueliner was held scoreless in five games with the Capitals earlier this season.
