Jets' Kulda Elects To Return To KHL

News: Arturs Kulda has decided to play in the KHL this season, the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Arturs Kulda signed with the Jets in March, so the team will retain his rights as he looks for an opportunity overseas. He played in 50 games for KHL club Novosibirsk last season, but it's unclear if he's planning on reuniting with that team.

Jets Sign Kulda

News: The Jets signed Arturs Kulda to a one-year, $550,000 contract Monday.
Analysis: The defenseman has played 50 games for Novosibirsk of the KHL this season, tallying nine goals and six assists to go along with 55 PIMs. Arturs Kulda was a seventh-round pick in 2006 by the Thrashers, but has only played in 15 NHL contests.

Thrashers Demote Kulda

Thrashers Recall Kulda

News: The Thrashers recalled Kulda from AHL Chicago on Friday, according to the team's official website.
Analysis: Kulda has racked up 52 PIMs in 45 games with Chicago this season, but he has totaled just nine points (2G, 7A). Kulda could see some playing time if Freddy Meyer misses any action, but don't expect much fantasy-wise.

Kulda assigned to Chicago on Sunday

News: The Thrashers assigned D Arturs Kulda to Chicago of the AHL on Sunday. He appeared in two games for Atlanta since his recall on Thursday. He had an assist in 21 minutes of ice time.
Analysis: Kulda is going to get the chance to play in the minors, where he started the season, while the NHL is on hiatus for the Olympic break. Kulda could be back in March, but he is not worth holding onto in Fantasy. He is more of a defensive presence than offensive.

Thrashers summon Kulda from AHL

News: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the Thrashers have called up D Arturs Kulda from the AHL.
Analysis: Kulda, a seventh-round pick from 2006, is known more for his physical play than his offensive skills, so has no Fantasy value at this time.

Thrashers assign nine to AHL

News: The Atlanta Thrashers have assigned nine players, including forwards Joey Crabb and Jason Krog, to AHL Chicago. Also assigned to Chicago were forwards Spencer Machacek and Tim Stapleton, defensemen Arturs Kulda, Grant Lewis, Paul Postma and Mike Vernace and goaltender Drew McIntyre.
Analysis: Crabb had nine points in 29 games with Atlanta last season. Krog signed with the Thrashers as a free agent after playing in four games with Vancouver last season. Machacek is one of the Thrashers' top prospects, while Kulda, Lewis and Postma are also among Atlanta's top 20 prospects. Still, most of these guys are just organizational depth and have little to no Fantasy value.

Thrashers make some cuts Sat.

News: The Thrashers cut their roster to 26 players on Saturday three above the maximum. They sent center Grant Stevenson, defenseman Arturs Kulda and goalie Ondrej Pavelec to Chicago of the AHL, and released defenseman Jamie Rivers.
Analysis: Most of these players could spend the season in the minors or off a NHL roster, so they have little to no Fantasy value at this time. Pavelec is the only player worth owning in long-term keeper leagues.
