Coyotes Sign McKenna To Two-Way Deal

News: Mike McKenna agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with the Coyotes on Tuesday, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Mike McKenna made his first NHL appearance for Columbus last season since the 2010-11 campaign, posting a 3.01 GAA and .904 save percentage when Sergei Bobrovsky was forced to miss some time. With the Coyotes adding Devan Dubnyk to their roster Tuesday as the presumed backup to Mike Smith, McKenna looks to be no better than the organization's No. 3 option in goal.

Blue Jackets Send Down McKenna

News: Mike McKenna was sent down to AHL Springfield on Friday.
Analysis: With Sergei Bobrovsky traveling with the team, it appears he is well enough to at least act as a backup, if not return to the crease as the starter for Saturday's game altogether. Mike McKenna saw no ice time during this stint with the big club but will again be the first call should Columbus need depth at a later date.

McKenna Serves As Columbus Backup

News: Mike McKenna backed up Curtis McElhinney in Friday's 2-1 loss to PIttsburgh while regular goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky battled the flu.
Analysis: Mike McKenna did not play, as as McElhinney gave the Jackets a chance to win with 29 saves on 31 shots, but Columbus fell. It is unclear if McKenna will serve as the Jackets' backup for Saturday's tilt against Carolina, but logic suggests he will either be returned to the AHL or a healthy scratch should Bobrovsky be up for playing.

Blue Jackets Recall McKenna

News: Mike McKenna was recalled from AHL Springfield on Thursday.
Analysis: Mike McKenna's recall would seem to indicate the Blue Jackets aren't entirely sold that Sergei Bobrovsky (illness) will be ready to play Friday against the Penguins. If that's the case, McKenna would be prepared to serve as the understudy to Curtis McElhinney.

Blue Jackets Demote McKenna

News: Mike McKenna was reassigned to AHL Springfield, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The Blue Jackets don't have much use for keeping Mike McKenna around any longer now that Sergei Bobrovsky is healthy and back from injured reserve. While with Columbus, McKenna acquitted himself respectably for a goalie seeing his first NHL action since the 2010-11 season, going 1-1-1 with a .904 save percentage over four appearances.

Blue Jackets' McKenna Stops 30 In Win

News: Mike McKenna made 30 saves on 33 shots in a win over the Hurricanes on Monday.
Analysis: This is Mike McKenna's first win on the season. He's only played in four games, and only starting until Columbus' goalie injury issues are resolved.

Jackets' McKenna Starting Monday

News: Mike McKenna will start Monday's game against the Hurricanes, the Fox Sports Ohio reports.
Analysis: This comes as a surprise, as it was reported earlier Monday that Curtis McElhinney would be between the pipes. However, it appears the team has opted to go with Mike McKenna, who is 0-1 with eight goals allowed in three games this season (0.901 save percentage).

Blue Jackets' McKenna Lets In Three In Loss

News: Mike McKenna made 29 saves on 32 shots in a loss to the Jets on Monday.
Analysis: Mike McKenna is only being used by Columbus in desperation. You should not be as desperate.

Jackets' McKenna In Goal Monday

News: Mike McKenna will start in net Monday against the Jets, Jeff Rimer of FOX Sports Ohio reports.
Analysis: Mike McKenna will take the net Monday with a decent matchup against the Jets, but he has limited experience as a netminder in the NHL, with only two games played since 2010-11.

Jackets' McKenna Can't Hold Lead

News: Mike McKenna made 27 saves in a 4-3 OT loss to the Blues on Saturday night.
Analysis: He and the Jackets were up 3-1 after the first, but they just couldn't hold the lead. He did make several nice saves, though. But nice only counts in horseshoes which may be all he needs Monday against the sputtering Jets.

Jackets Turn To McKenna On Saturday

News: Mike McKenna will draw the start in goal Saturday vs. the Blues, Dan Kamal of FOX Sports Ohio reports.
Analysis: Making his first appearance at the NHL level since the 2010-11 season, Mike McKenna relieved an injured Curtis McElhinney (lower body) on Thursday to preserve a win over the Rangers. Coach Todd Richards said McElhinney's injury is only a minor one, but McKenna will have an opportunity to pick up a handful of starts if the No. 1 goalie requires a few recovery days.

Jackets' McKenna Makes Season Debut

News: Filling in for an injured Curtis McElhinney (lower body), Mike McKenna stopped 17 of 18 shots in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Rangers.
Analysis: McElhinney was forced out in the second period, exiting the game with a 3-1 lead. In his first action of the 2013-14 season, Mike McKenna was able to preserve the two-goal margin. With Sergei Bobrovsky (groin) already on injured reserve, the Blue Jackets will be in trouble if McElhinney's injury turns out to be serious. McKenna is next in line, despite having just 18 NHL appearances to his name at the age of 30. While it wouldn't be wise to expect strong numbers, McKenna may have a shot at significant playing time in the coming weeks.

Jackets Recall McKenna

News: The Blue Jackets recalled Mike McKenna from AHL Springfield on Wednesday.
Analysis: Mike McKenna will be brought up to back up Curtis McElhinney while starter Sergei Bobrovsky sits out with an apparent lower-body injury. Bobrovsky will undergo an MRI on Wednesday to determine the extent of his injury, which should give us a better idea of how long McKenna will remain with the Jackets. McKenna currently has a 6-2-0 record with Springfield to go along with a 1.45 GAA, .943 save percentage and two shutouts.

Blue Jackets Waive McKenna

News: Mike McKenna was placed on waivers Saturday, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Since it now appears Curtis McElhinney will be ready to go for the season opener to back up Sergei Bobrovsky, the Blue Jackets decided to part with Mike McKenna and fellow goaltender Jeremy Smith. Both goalies will need to clear waivers before reporting to AHL Springfield.

McKenna Joins Columbus

News: Mike McKenna signed a one-year, two-way contract with Columbus on Friday.
Analysis: Mike McKenna played on a two-way contract with St. Louis in 2012, but he didn't make an NHL appearance. He posted a save percentage of .923 over 39 AHL games last year, and looks to be the number three guy on the Blue Jackets' depth chart behind Vezina winner Sergei Bobrovsky and Curtis McElhinney.

News: The Devils reassigned McKenna to AHL Albany on Friday, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Martin Brodeur is back from a knee injury and will back up Johan Hedberg on Friday against the Rangers. McKenna will head back to the minors, but will be on call if another injury situation arises.

Devils Call Up McKenna

News: The Devils have called up McKenna from Albany of the AHL, according to Tom Gulitti of The Bergen Record.
Analysis: His stay will be directly tied to the health of Martin Brodeur. McKenna will back up Johan Hedberg for Tuesday's game against Carolina.

Devils Return McKenna to AHL

News: McKenna was returned to Albany (AHL) on Tuesday, the Devils' official site reports.
Analysis: With Martin Brodeur returning to health, McKenna will head back to the minors and get some work in there. He's only seen action in two games for the Devils this season, so Johan Hedberg is the insurance policy to roster if you're a Brodeur owner trying to tread water.

McKenna Makes Rare Appearance for Devils

News: McKenna was thrust into action in Thursday's loss to the Habs and stopped 26 of 29.
Analysis: That's a solid relief appearance. Johan Hedberg got the start and gave up two goals on three shots, so McKenna was thrust out there and did okay.

McKenna: 24 Saves in Devils' Loss

News: McKenna was strong between the pipes for the Devils on Saturday but he didn't earn the win in a 24-save, 3-2 loss to the Blues.
Analysis: He's probably not bound for a lot of starts; Johan Hedberg will likely get the bulk of the work.

Devils Will Start McKenna In Net Saturday

News: McKenna will start in goal Saturday against the Blues, reports Lou Korac of the Alton Telegraph.
Analysis: McKenna, recently called up due to an injury to Martin Brodeur, had just a .882 save percentage with Albany of the AHL this season. In his favor, he draws a below average scoring team in St. Louis. However, his own Devils are dead last in scoring this year, so he will likely need to be stellar to earn a victory in his first start in the NHL since April of 2009.

Devils Recall McKenna

News: McKenna was recalled by the Devils on Friday, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Martin Brodeur is expected to miss at least Saturday's game, so the Devils needed another goaltender as insurance behind Johan Hedberg. The extent of Brodeur's injury is unclear at this time, so it remains to be seen if McKenna's stay will be a short one.

Devils Send McKenna To AHL

News: McKenna was sent down to Albany (AHL) Thursday, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: McKenna was a stop-gap replacement for New Jersey as Martin Brodeur missed several starts with a bruised elbow.
