Avs' Duchene Picks Up Assist In Return

News: Matt Duchene registered an assist in his return from a knee injury in Monday's Game 6 loss to the Wild.
Analysis: Matt Duchene saw 18:52 of ice time in his first action in almost a month, but didn't quite do enough to help the Avalanche finish off the Wild. He attempted no shots on goal, and wasn't very active defensively, either, logging one blocked shot and no hits.

Avs' Duchene Will Play In Game 6

News: Matt Duchene (knee) will play in Monday's Game 6 against the Wild, ESPN's Pierre LeBrun reports.
Analysis: Sidelined for the past 13 games with the injury, Matt Duchene received clearance to join the lineup after successfully completing two morning skates and taking part in warmups Monday without incident. He'll start on the fourth line after the lengthy absence, but if the Avs can dispatch the Wild and advance to the next round, Duchene could resume playing his usual amount of minutes.

Avs' Duchene Game-Time Decision Monday

News: Matt Duchene (knee) is a game-time decision for Monday's game against the Wild.
Analysis: Matt Duchene skated with Ryan O'Reilly and P.A. Parenteau at the Avs' morning skate Monday, which bodes well for his Game 6 status, but official confirmation -- one way or the other -- may not come until the team's pregame warmups.

Avs' Duchene May Play Monday

News: Matt Duchene (knee) skated with Ryan O'Reilly and P.A. Parenteau at the Avs' morning skate Monday, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: More on Matt Duchene's status as Monday's faceoff approaches, but based on the Avs' morning skate, a return to action for Game 6 against the Wild looks plausible for the forward.

Avs' Duchene Making Progress

News: Matt Duchene (knee) skated Sunday, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: It remains to be seen if Matt Duchene will be able to play in Monday's Game 6 against the Wild, but if he does suit up, the report suggests that the forward may see work on the fourth line and on the Avs' power play out of the gate.

Avs' Duchene Ruled Out For Game 5

News: Matt Duchene (knee) took part in the Avs' morning skate but has been officially ruled out for Game 5, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Matt Duchene was quickly ruled out for Game 5 earlier in the week, but his participation at morning skate sparked debate of whether he could make a surprise return. However, coach Patrick Roy clarified that Duchene will, indeed, sit out. Consider him questionable for Monday's Game 6, with another update expected Sunday.

Avs' Duchene Out For Game 5

News: Matt Duchene (knee) will not play in Saturday's Game 5 against the Wild, ESPN's Pierre LeBrun reports.
Analysis: Matt Duchene was ruled out shortly after the conclusion of Game 4, which saw the Avs thoroughly dominated by the Wild. While the star center won't play Saturday, his team isn't in any position to take a cautious approach, with the series knotted at 2-2. Duchene has not been ruled out beyond Game 5.

Avs' Duchene Nearing Return

News: Matt Duchene (knee) could return before the end of the first round, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: The center skated hard Tuesday, and while he's not expected to be back for Game 4 on Thursday, there's still a chance Matt Duchene could return before the series is over. He racked up 23 goals and 47 assists in 71 games during the regular season, and would provide a much needed boost to the struggling Colorado power play that has gone just 1-11 through the first three games of the playoffs.

Avs' Duchene To Start Skating Monday

News: Matt Duchene (knee) will join the Avalanche for the two-game road swing in Minnesota, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Matt Duchene will resume skating Monday, but it's still looking unlikely that he'll be available for Round 1. However, with the Avalanche already owning a commanding 2-0 lead, the series could end up going as few as four games, affording ample time for Duchene to rest up before Round 2 commences.

Avs' Duchene Unlikely To Play In Round 1

News: According to coach Patrick Roy, it is "very unlikely" that Matt Duchene (knee) will play in Round 1, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: The Avs have played just one playoff game thus far, so even if their opening-round series goes a full seven games with the Wild, Roy's comment eludes to Dutchy potentially missing the next six games (or more). Colorado is fairly loaded with young scoring weapons up front -- with Paul Stastny, Nate MacKinnon, Gabe Landeskog and Ryan O'Reilly more than capable of shouldering the load with Matt Duchene out -- but the team obviously wants their leading scorer back in the lineup sooner than later. If they can manage three more wins against Minnesota, advance to the second round and get him back, St. Louis or Chicago is certain to have their hands full with the Central Division champs. Jamie McGinn will continue to get top-six time in Duchene's absence.

Avalanche's Duchene (Knee) Likely Miss First Round

News: Matt Duchene (knee) is expected to miss the remainder of Colorado's first round series against the Wild, ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Matt Duchene injured his MCL in March and was originally slated to miss four weeks. He hoped to return for Game 3 or 4 of the first round, but coach Patrick Roy essentially ruled him out after Saturday's morning skate. "I don't think we will see Matt in [this] series," Roy said. "I'd be very, very surprised. He hasn't started skating yet. ... I don't think we will see him."

Avs' Duchene Still Sidelined

News: Matt Duchene (knee) did not skate Tuesday, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: The report notes that Matt Duchene is not expected to play in the first two games of the Avs' upcoming series against the Wild (which opens Thursday), at a minimum.

Avs' Duchene Out Four Weeks

News: Matt Duchene will miss about four weeks with a knee injury that he sustained Saturday, the Avs' official site reports.
Analysis: The injury ends Matt Duchene's regular season, and the report suggests that he will likely remain out of the Avs' lineup through at least the first round of the upcoming postseason slate. This is no doubt devastating news for Duchene owners hunting for a fantasy championship as well as the Avs, who will likely draw the Blackhawks in the opening round without their leading scorer.

Avs' Duchene To Have MRI Sunday On Injured Knee

News: Matt Duchene (knee) will undergo an MRI on Sunday to determine the severity of his injury, reports NHL.com. "I'm always a positive person. I believe that he's going to be back for playoffs," said coach Patrick Roy after Saturday's game where Duchene was injured.
Analysis: The injury happened on Matt Duchene's very first shift when he collided with teammate Jamie McGinn just inside the Sharks' blue line. The collision was head-on, knee-to-knee and we always worry about ACLs in that situation. We'll know more Sunday.

Avs' Duchene Leaves Saturday With Knee Injury

News: Matt Duchene was removed from Saturday's game against the Sharks with a knee injury, David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports. He will not return.
Analysis: Much to the chagrin of fantasy owners and Avalanche fans, it looks like Matt Duchene could be out for some time, as he limped off the ice in severe pain after colliding with teammate Jamie McGinn in the team's opening minute. The Avs' leading scorer this season with a career-high 70 points, Duchene had been in the midst of one of his hottest stretches of the season, with 20 points in his last 15 contests. Expect the Avalanche to provide an official update on the extent of his injury after the game.

Two-Point Night For Avs' Duchene

News: Matt Duchene registered a goal and an assist in Thursday's overtime win over the Canucks.
Analysis: Matt Duchene's 23rd goal of the season tied the game up at 1-1 in the first period, while his assist on Tyson Barrie's game-winner in overtime allowed the Avalanche to close in on clinching their first playoff berth in four years. The 23-year-old center has been on fire since returning from the Olympic break, compiling four goals and 16 assists in his last 15 games.

Avs' Duchene Adds Assist Tuesday

News: Matt Duchene grabbed an assist -- his 46th of the season, good for ninth in the NHL -- in Tuesday's 5-4 shootout win over the Predators.
Analysis: After being held off the scoresheet in rare fashion against Boston on Friday, Matt Duchene resumed his point-per-game scoring pace in Colorado's 22nd road win of the season. He now has points in 13 of his last 15 games and sits 17th in league scoring with 68. Strangely enough, Duchene -- along with the rest of the Avs -- didn't see any man-advantage time for the second time all year, as the Predators didn't commit a single penalty against the Avs. Nonetheless, with 10 games left on the docket, the 23-year-old looks poised to flirt with 80 points. Make sure you cash in.

Avs` Duchene Adds Another Two Helpers Tuesday

News: Matt Duchene factored in two Avalanche goals Tuesday, grabbing a pair of assists for the second game in a row in a 6-4 loss to the Canadiens. He was also a plus-2 despite the Avs giving up four even-strength goals.
Analysis: Win or lose, No. 9 consistently finds a way to get it done for the boys from Denver. Matt Duchene has been an animal since returning from the Olympics with a gold medal, scoring in all but one of the Avs` 11 games for a total of 16 points. His prolific point total now sits at 66 and plunks him into a six-player logjam for 10th overall in league scoring with other all-world superstars like Evgeni Malkin, John Tavares and Nicklas Backstrom. Every so often, a generational talent emerges that is seemingly immune to the plateaus and slumps of an NHL season, finding a way to produce regardless of the situation. It`s officially time to consider Dutchy as one of them.

Avs' Duchene Dishes Out Pair Of Assists In Win

News: Matt Duchene continued his torrid scoring pace Sunday, dishing out two assists en route to a 3-1 victory over Ottawa.
Analysis: The Matt Duchene Train got right back on track in Ottawa after briefly pulling into the station last game when he was held pointless for the first time in nine outings. Duchene is solidifying himself as a legitimate point-per-game stud and continues to show that he relishes the role of carrying his team in the absence of Paul Stastny and P.A. Parenteau. Unless you selected him in the top 15-20 picks of your draft, you got way more than your money's worth. He now has 42 assists - two more than his previous career-high - to go with his 22 goals in 65 games.

Avs' Duchene Keeps Rolling Wednesday

News: Matt Duchene racked up a goal and an assist Wednesday - giving him 62 points in 63 games and a nine-game point streak - as Colorado iced the Blackhawks 3-2.
Analysis: Also of note Wednesday was Matt Duchene's five shots on goal that upped his total to 202 on the season, tying his career high. The Avs' MVP is playing out of his mind right now - even by his lofty standards - and with offensive weapons P.A. Parenteau and Paul Stastny sidelined with injuries, he looks up to the task of carrying Colorado's offense. At this point, it's a no-brainer that he'll easily notch the five points required to eclipse his career high of 67 set in his sophomore season, but what about beyond that? Is Dutchy an 80-point guy? The Avs are motivated to fight for home ice in the playoffs, so he should come close.

Avs` Duchene`s Streak At Eight With OT Winner

News: Matt Duchene extended his point streak to eight games Monday, backhanding the overtime winner past the Jets' Al Montoya.
Analysis: The drama continues for the boys from the Mile High City. After getting run over by Winnipeg's Jim Slater in the third, Matt Duchene came back with a vengeance in OT, carving through the neutral zone before ending the game on a tremendous individual effort. His 12 points -- including four multi-point efforts -- over his eight-game point streak have given him the Avalanche lead in points (61), assists (39), game-winning goals (six) and shots on goal (197). The Avs will look to Dutchy to keep it up, as the last two games have seen two of their top players, Paul Stastny and P.A. Parenteau, go down with injuries.

Avs' Duchene Reaches 20 Goals In Win

News: Matt Duchene opened the scoring for Colorado and later assisted on another Thursday in a 3-2 overtime win against the Wings.
Analysis: After a couple of below-average years, the dynamic winger became the fourth Av to join the 20-goal club this season, his third time in five NHL campaigns. He was the benefactor of a famous Joe Louis Arena end-board bounce just after the game`s halfway mark, making no mistake when the puck ricocheted directly to his stick after Erik Johnson shot wide. Also, seemingly lost in all the hoopla of teammate Nathan MacKinnon`s 13-game rookie point streak is the fact that Dutchy is on a six-game streak of his own, a season high. With 19 games remaining, Matt Duchene is just two assists, seven goals and nine points shy of clearing his career highs. We don`t anticipate he`ll have much difficulty doing that -- as long as he stays healthy, of course.

Another Two Points for Avs' Duchene

News: Matt Duchene grabbed two more helpers in Sunday's 6-3 home victory over the Lightning.
Analysis: Matt Duchene now has a modest four-game point streak going, his second longest of the season. His line with P.A. Parenteau and Ryan O'Reilly has looked like a juggernaut since returning from the Olympic break, hitting the scoresheet a combined 15 times in three games. A slight knock on Dutchy in this one was his three turnovers, but unless you're coach Patrick Roy, you probably don't mind.

Avs' Duchene Adds Helper Friday

News: Matt Duchene assisted on P.A. Parenteau's first-period power-play goal in Friday's 4-2 triumph over the Coyotes.
Analysis: Another game, another point for Colorado's leading scorer from Haliburton, Ontario. He currently has 53 points and needs just 14 more to surpass his career high of 67 set as a sophomore in 2010-11. If the Avs keep rolling the way they've been all season, we don't think he'll have a problem.

Avs' Duchene Assists Twice In Loss

News: Matt Duchene recorded two assists Wednesday against the Kings.
Analysis: The center stayed hot Wednesday, recording his third and fourth points in the last two games. He now has 19 goals and 33 assists in 56 games on the year.
