Isles' Tavares Dishes Two In Win

News: John Tavares picked up two assists and scored the game-winning goal in the shootout Thursday against the Sharks.
Analysis: That's why he's the star. John Tavares has delivered multi-point efforts in all four games to stat the year, giving him an amazing nine points in the early going. As long as he avoids injury, he's in for a huge season -- perhaps his best yet.

Isles' Tavares On Fire Early

News: John Tavares scored a goal and handed out an assist in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Rangers.
Analysis: John Tavares has opened the season with three consecutive multi-point games, piling up two goals and five assists. It's no coincidence that the Isles are 3-0 on the year.

Isles' Tavares: Two More Points

News: John Tavares was the game's first star on Saturday when he helped the Islanders to a 4-3 win over the Hurricanes. He scored a power-play goal, added an even-strength assist and even picked up a roughing minor.
Analysis: The goal was his first of the season, but he has five points in his first two games. He just turned 24 and the best is yet to come, and that's saying something considering he scored at a point-per-game pace at age 21. You know what to do.

Isles' Tavares Records Three Assists In Opener

News: John Tavares dished out three assists -- two on the power play -- in Friday's season-opening win over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: A terrific start for John Tavares, who appears fully healthy after missing 22 games last season with a knee injury. The Isles' recent blue line acquisitions of Johnny Boychuk and Nick Leddy will only help Tavares as the season progresses. If Tavares remains healthy, there is no reason he can't reach 80-plus points in 2014-15. What a way to kick off the season.

Isles' Tavares Returns For Final Two Exhibitions

News: John Tavares played in the Islanders' final two preseason contests and looks to be at full health entering the regular season.
Analysis: John Tavares entered training camp coming off the season-ending torn MCL and meniscus that he sustained in last February's Winter Olympics, but he did not require surgery and was able to recover completely over the summer. While it remains to be seen who the Islanders will tab for the left wing on the Tavares line, the center showed a strong rapport last season with right winger Kyle Okposo, who broke out with 27 goals and 42 assists over 71 games. Tavares should be able to get the most out of anyone who joins him on the top line, and if health permits, it's well within his ability to surpass his previous career-high of 81 points in a season.

Isles' Tavares Is Healthy Once Again

News: Taveres has completely recovered from his knee injury, according to the Islanders Point Blank.
Analysis: John Tavares was injured during the Olympics and missed the rest of the regular season but general manager Garth Snow stated Wednesday that if the Islanders were in the playoffs Tavares would be good to go. Tavares is one of the best goal scorers in the game and should once again be taken at the top of fantasy drafts next season.

Isles' Tavares Cleared To Skate

News: John Tavares (knee) has been medically cleared to begin skating again Monday, according to the Islanders Point Blank.
Analysis: John Tavares tore his MCL and meniscus during the Olympics and missed the remainder of the NHL season. He did not have to undergo surgery but instead has been rehabbing the injury. The star forward should be at full strength will before next season begins.

Islanders' Tavares Won't Need Knee Surgery

News: John Tavares -- who suffered a torn MCL and torn meniscus during the Sochi Olympics -- will not need surgery to repair his knee, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Though the injury was a season-ender for John Tavares, the fact that he will avoid surgery is a positive development. The report indicates that Tavares is looking at an eight-to-12-week rehab/recovery period, a timetable that should enable him to enter training camp in good health.

Isles' Tavares Placed On IR

News: John Tavares (knee) was officially placed on injured reserve Monday.
Analysis: It's merely a formality after John Tavares was ruled out for the season after sustaining tearing his MCL and meniscus during the Olympics. A player of Tavares' caliber is simply irreplaceable for the Islanders, and the absence of their star could drastically diminish the production of linemates Thomas Vanek and Kyle Okposo.

Isles' Tavares Out For Season With Torn MCL

News: John Tavares (knee) will miss the rest of the season after an MRI revealed a torn MCL and torn meniscus, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Consider John Tavares' injury Exhibit A for why organizations would prefer their players not take part in international tournaments. Tavares' season-ending injury is a crippling blow to fantasy owners and probably, a death knell to the Islanders' fleeting playoff hopes. It hasn't been determined yet whether the center will require surgery on the knee, but the expectation is that he will be at full health for training camp in September. In any case, it's an extremely disappointing setback for Tavares, who was enjoying the best season of his career with 66 points in 59 contests.

Isles' Tavares Hurts Knee

News: Newsday's Arthur Staple reports that the issue that will keep John Tavares out of the rest of the Olympics is a knee injury.
Analysis: At this point, there is no timetable outlined for John Tavares' potential return to the ice, but it's evidently a knee injury in play here after earlier reports noted an apparent leg injury that he sustained Wednesday against Latvia.

Isles' Tavares Out For Remainder Of Olympics

News: John Tavares, who suffered a leg injury in Wednesday's win over Latvia, will miss the rest of the Sochi Olympics, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: While Team Canada coach Mike Babcock acknowledged John Tavares' injury, he noted that further updates regarding the forward's status would come through the Islanders. Until additional specifics are reported, we'll classify Tavares as day-to-day in advance of his team's Feb. 27 contest against the Maple Leafs.

Isles' Fear Tavares May Have Ligament Damage

News: Initial reports out of Russia are that John Tavares may have suffered damage to multiple knee ligaments, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: This kind of injury would be a killer for both the Islanders and fantasy owners as John Tavares is one of the best offensive players in the game. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but any sort of ligament tear at this point would likely end his season.

Isles' Tavares Exits With Apparent Injury

News: John Tavares left Wednesday's match against Latvia with an undisclosed injury, The Canadian Press reports.
Analysis: John Tavares suffered the ailment when he was hit into the boards by Latvia's Arturs Kulda in the second period. He was able to skate to the bench but wasn't able to return to the game, playing just eight shifts on the night. The Canadian trainers will evaluate him over the next 24 hours before determining whether or not he'll be available for the semifinal tilt with the United States on Friday.

Isles' Tavares On Tap For Top-Six Duty In Sochi?

News: John Tavares practiced at left wing on the second line with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry at the Canadian team's practice Monday morning, Mike Johnston of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: The lines are hardly ironclad, but given the depth of forward talent at Canada's disposal, John Tavares should be set up for success no matter where or whom he plays with. The 2013 Hart Trophy finalist is enjoying the best season of his five-year career with the Islanders, supplying 66 points in 59 games heading into the Olympics.

Isles' Tavares Stays Hot With Three Assists

News: John Tavares dished out three assists in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Rangers.
Analysis: In typical John Tavares fashion, all three helpers were of the primary variety, including the third one, which set up Thomas Vanek for the tiebreaking power-play goal late in the game. He's got points in four straight and 12 of his last 14 games, totaling a whopping 24 points (10 of them goals) in that span.

News: John Tavares scored his 22nd goal of the season in Saturday's loss to the Flyers. He now has 20 points, including nine goals, in his last 12 games.
Analysis: His 59 points put him second in the NHL. He's also top-15 in the league in goals. You know what to do.

Tavares' Three Assists Power Isles To Win

News: John Tavares dished out a hat trick of assists in Tuesday's win over Toronto, extending his point streak to seven games.
Analysis: The point streak is impressive as is, but Monday and Tuesday's back-to-back set is particularly amazing, as he ripped off three goals and five assists in those two games. Overall during this streak, John Tavares has a simply ridiculous 16 points in seven contests. That's served to propel him into a tie with the Blackhawks' Patrick Kane for the No. 2 spot on the NHL scoring list.

News: John Tavares scored twice and added two assists in Tuesday's win over Boston, giving him four goals in his last three games.

News: John Tavares (lower body) will play Sunday against the Wild, Newsday's Arthur Staple reports.
Analysis: After Sunday's morning skate, John Tavares said that he felt fine and deemed himself good to go against Minnesota. The 23-year-old revealed that he actually sustained the lower-body injury back on Dec. 17, as a result of a hit from the Lightning's Radko Gudas.

Isles' Tavares Game Time Decision Sunday

News: John Tavares (lower body) will be a game time decision on Sunday versus Minnesota, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: John Tavares missed the game Saturday but is currently on the ice with the rest of the team. The Isles are having trouble scoring even with JT in the lineup and with Josh Bailey and Michael Grabner both expected to miss this game, look for the Isles to do everything they can to get JT back in the starting lineup.

Isles' Tavares Nursing Lower-Body Injury

News: John Tavares missed Friday's practice with a lower-body injury.
Analysis: The Islanders are calling John Tavares day-to-day but offered no further insight into his injury situation, including his status for Saturday's game against the Devils. Tavares' production has remained relatively consistent this season even as many of his teammates have taken a nosedive, so an absence of any length of time would make for an even bleaker outlook for the Islanders.
