Red Wings' Gustavsson Still Weeks Away

News: Jonas Gustavsson (shoulder) was on the ice earlier this week for conditioning work, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Jonas Gustavsson is still considered multiple weeks away from a return from injured reserve. The netminder said he hasn't been able to test out his shoulder yet, making a firmer timetable for his return difficult to pin down at the moment.

Wings' Gustavsson Out Approximately Two Months

News: Jonas Gustavsson is expected to miss about two months with a dislocated shoulder, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Jonas Gustavsson doesn't plan to have surgery at this point, but will miss an extended period of time because of the injury. Petr Mrazek should continue in the backup duties to Jimmy Howard until he returns.

Wings' Gustavsson Has Separated Shoulder

News: Jonas Gustavsson separated his shoulder in Wednesday's matchup with the Rangers and will be out several weeks, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. The Red Wings placed him on injured reserve.
Analysis: Jonas Gustavsson wasn't getting many starts anyway because of how well Jimmy Howard is playing, but it's still a major setback for him. Petr Mrazek will take his place as the backup.

Red Wings' Gustavsson Suffers Shoulder Injury

News: Jonas Gustavsson suffered a shoulder injury during Wednesday's game and will be out "a while," Helene St. James of The Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: It's too early to determine exactly how long Jonas Gustavsson will be out, but it appears he is facing an extended absence. Petr Mrazek will be called up to take over the backup goalie duties behind Jimmy Howard.

Wings' Gustavsson Set To Start Wednesday

News: Jonas Gustavsson will be between the pipes Wednesday against the Rangers, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Jonas Gustavsson is expected to match up against 2014 Swedish Olympic teammate Henrik Lundqvist, who won all three of his starts against the Red Wings last season, shutting them out twice. Coming away with the victory Wednesday could be too much to ask from Gustavsson, but he's fared well in his previous two starts this season against respectable opponents in the Flyers and Maple Leafs, going 1-1 with a 1.45 GAA and .935 save percentage.

Wings' Monster Yields Three Goals On 16 Shots

News: Jonas Gustavsson allowed three goals on 16 shots in Detroit's 4-2 loss to the Flyers on Saturday night.
Analysis: Peee-yew. The Flyers could barely muster a decent rush all night long, but they still managed to put three pucks behind the Monster. For all his potential, he's not going to usurp Jimmy Howard with play like this.

Detroit To Start Gustavsson On Saturday

News: Jonas Gustavsson will receive the start in goal Saturday against the Flyers, Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News reports.
Analysis: The Red Wings will turn to Jonas Gustavsson as the team looks to snap its long losing streak in Philadelphia, a drought that dates back all the way to when the two squads met in the 1997 Stanley Cup Finals. With a 2-3-2 record and several key defensemen missing, this season's edition of the Flyers wouldn't seem to represent a formidable adversary for Gustavsson, who shut out the Maple Leafs in his first start of the season a week earlier.

Wings' Gustavsson Shuts Out Leafs

News: Jonas Gustavsson made 30 saves in a 1-0 overtime win over Toronto on Saturday night.
Analysis: He was outstanding in his season debut. He's always struggled to stay healthy, so you certainly can't count on him on a consistent basis. But he sure looks like he can help fantasy owners on a matchups basis.

Red Wings Plan To Start Gustavsson On Saturday

News: Jonas Gustavsson is expected to make his first start of the season Saturday against the Maple Leafs, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Jonas Gustavsson shook off a knee injury late in the preseason to make himself available for last week's season opener, but the solid play in the net by Jimmy Howard has kept Gustavsson glued to the bench. The Red Wings' weekend back-to-back set should finally allow the backup netminder to see the ice, but unless Howard again succumbs to the injury woes that marred his 2013-14 campaign, Gustavsson doesn't figure to cut into his workload too much this season.

Red Wings' Gustavsson Healthy

News: Jonas Gustavsson appears to be recovered from the knee injury he suffered late in training camp.
Analysis: There was some concern the Red Wings may have needed to carry three goalies on their Opening Night roster to serve as insurance for Jonas Gustavsson's injury, but that ended up proving unnecessary. Jimmy Howard has started both of the Red Wings' games thus far and is slated to man the net again Wednesday, but look for Gustavsson to see the ice fairly soon.

Red Wings' Gustavsson Could Miss Season Opener

News: Jonas Gustavsson suffered a knee injury last Friday and may not be ready for Thursday's season opener, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: The Red Wings have been mum about Jonas Gustavsson's status, but he was unable to take part in Tuesday's practice, so he may not be healthy enough to play Thursday. If Gustavsson needs more time to recover, Petr Mrazek would be in line to serve as the backup goaltender behind starter Jimmy Howard.

Detroit's Gustavsson Stops 20 In Preseason Loss

News: Jonas Gustavsson made 20 saves on 22 shots in a 3-1 preseason loss to Boston on Saturday.
Analysis: Jonas Gustavsson played decently in his first preseason tilt, especially against a tough Boston team playing some of its regulars. He should see a fair amount of time in net this year, especially if Jimmy Howard continues to struggle.

Wings Re-Sign Gustavsson

News: Jonas Gustavsson has signed a one-year, $1.85 million deal with the Red Wings, Chuck Pleiness of the Macomb Daily reports.
Analysis: As a result, Jonas Gustavsson, who recorded a 16-5-4 record in 27 games this past season, while recording a 2.63 GAA and .907 save percentage, will reprise his role as Jimmy Howard's top backup in 2014-15.

Gustavsson, Wings Bow Out

News: Jonas Gustavsson allowed three goals on 32 shots in Saturday's Game 5 season-edning loss to Boston in their Atlantic Division semifinal series.
Analysis: Jonas Gustavsson was dealt a rough situation when he filled in for Jimmy Howard (illness) beginning in Game 4. The Monster did valiantly to keep the Wings in the series' final two games against Boston, but the six goals he allowed in his two starts weren't enough to allow Detroit to extend the series.

Red Wings To Start Gustavsson Saturday

News: Jonas Gustavsson will start in Saturday's Game 5 against the Bruins, MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Jonas Gustavsson surprisingly got the start in Thursday's Game 4 after teammate Jimmy Howard (illness) was a late scratch. In Howard's stead, Gustavsson notched 37 saves, but allowed three goals. Nonetheless, Gustavsson will get another start Saturday, this time with Detroit's season on the line.

Gustavsson, Wings Downed In Game 4

News: Jonas Gustavsson made 37 stops in Jimmy Howard's stead Thursday, but ended up falling, 3-2, against the Bruins in overtime.
Analysis: Jonas Gustavsson and the Wings coughed up a 2-0 lead, then ended up losing in the extra frame, so while he posted good stats, he clearly wasn't quite good enough. Howard missed this game with the flu and will likely return for Game 5 with the Wings fighting for their playoff lives.

Red Wings' Gustavsson Starts Game 4

News: Jonas Gustavsson will start in place of teammate Jimmy Howard at goalie in Thursday's Game 4 against the Bruins, NHL.com's Dan Rosen reports.
Analysis: Jonas Gustavsson will make his first career playoff start as a result of Howard missing Thursday's game with the flu. In nine career games versus Boston, Gustavsson is 4-4-1 with a 3.12 GAA and .893 save percentage.

Wings' Gustavsson Good To Go

News: Jonas Gustavsson (shoulder) will be available for Thursday's Game 1 against the Bruins, the Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard is expected to get the start Thursday, but it's good news that Jonas Gustavsson will be there to back him up. Gustavsson finished the regular season with a 16-5-4 record, a .907 save percentage, and a 2.63 GAA in 27 appearances.

Red Wings' Gustavsson Unlikely To Play Friday

News: Jonas Gustavsson is unlikely to play Friday due to an unspecified injury suffered in Wednesday's game, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: It's not clear what type of setback Jonas Gustavsson is dealing with, but he did not take part in Friday's morning skate, and thus will likely sit out Friday night. Jared Coreau is expected to serve as Jimmy Howard's backup in Gustavsson's place.

Undisclosed Injury For Wings' Gustavsson

News: Jonas Gustavsson may have sustained an injury during Wednesday's start against the Penguins, Chuck Pleiness of the Macomb Daily reports.
Analysis: The Red Wings haven't released any news regarding Jonas Gustavsson's condition, but the team's recall of Petr Mrazek from AHL Grand Rapids suggests Gustavsson might have played hurt Wednesday against the Penguins. More about Gustavsson's status should be known following Friday's morning skate.

Wings' Gustavsson Drops Shootout Decision

News: Jonas Gustavsson gave up three goals on 24 shot attempts before ultimately falling in a shootout Wednesday vs. the Penguins.
Analysis: Jonas Gustavsson very narrowly turned away Jussi Jokinen's shootout game-winner by aggressively knocking the puck away from the forward's stick, but the rubber bounced high over the goalie for the decisive score. Gustavsson could still be called upon to start one of the team's final two regular season games with their playoff spot secure.

Wings' Gustavsson Starting Wednesday

News: Jonas Gustavsson will get the start in net Wednesday against the Penguins, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Jonas Gustavsson is 16-5-3 on the season, with a .909 save percentage and a 2.62 GAA. He'll give starter Jimmy Howard a break Wednesday as the Wings play their second game in as many nights.

Wings' Gustavsson Takes Loss Saturday

News: Jonas Gustavsson stopped 21 of 26 shots in Saturday's loss to the Canadiens.
Analysis: Jonas Gustavsson fell into a 3-0 hole after two periods and nearly picked up the backdoor win after his mates rallied for three unanswered goals to tie the score in the third. However, Gustavsson quickly coughed up the tie minutes later, dropping his record to 16-5-3 on the season.

Red Wings' Gustavsson To Start Saturday

News: Jonas Gustavsson will start Saturday's game against the Canadiens, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Regular goaltender Jimmy Howard will start Friday night, but Jonas Gustavsson will get the nod Saturday to prevent Howard from playing back-to-back nights. Gustavsson will face a tough test in the Canadiens, but he is a good bet for a win, having gone 16-4-3 in 25 games this season.

Red Wings' Gustavsson Stops 26 In Win

News: Jonas Gustavsson made 26 saves on 28 shots in a win over the Lightning on Sunday.
Analysis: Jonas Gustavsson has won his last three starts, but those three starts took place in over a month's time. Jimmy Howard is carrying the load as the Wings try and cling to a playoff spot.
