Leafs Recall Ashton

News: Carter Ashton has been recalled from the AHL's Toronto Marlies, the Toronto Sun reports.
Analysis: The report notes that Carter Ashton was skating on a line with Nazem Kadri and David Clarkson on Tuesday, an arrangement that could give Ashton some short-term fantasy utility if it sticks.

Maple Leafs' Ashton Demoted To AHL

News: Carter Ashton was returned to AHL Toronto on Saturday, James Mirtle of the Toronto Globe and Mail reports.
Analysis: Carter Ashton didn't play in a game during his two-day stint with the team, as he was a healthy scratch Saturday against the Bruins. The 23-year-old former first-round draft pick has yet to find any success in the NHL, but he has 16 goals in 22 games for the AHL Toronto Marlies this season.

Leafs Recall Ashton

News: Carter Ashton was recalled from AHL Toronto on Thursday, James Mirtle of the Toronto Globe and Mail reports.
Analysis: Carter Ashton will give coach Randy Carlyle an additional option on the fourth-line as the Leafs look to optimize their lineups over the next few games to keep their playoff hopes alive. The 23-year-old has three points and 19 PIM in 31 games this season.

News: Carter Ashton was sent down to the Marlies of the AHL on Saturday, SportsNet590's David Alter reports.
Analysis: With Dave Bolland expected to return for Saturday's game, Carter Ashton's roster spot is needed. He'll head back to the Marlies for the time being but you can expect to see him again at some point.

Leafs Recall Ashton

News: Carter Ashton has been recalled from the AHL's Toronto Marlies, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: With the Marlies, Carter Ashton has notched 18 points in 16 games, but with the big club his fantasy impact has been limited, given that he has just three assists and 19 penalty minutes in 30 games with the Maple Leafs to date.

Leafs' Ashton Activated And Sent To AHL

News: Carter Ashton (hand) was activated from injured reserve and assigned to AHL Toronto on Friday, James Mirtle of the Toronto Globe and Mail reports.
Analysis: Carter Ashton has been out since Jan. 30 with the injury that is believed to be a broken hand. He had the Olympic break to rest up and appears close to being ready for action. He will take a brief trip to the AHL to get back to full speed, then should re-join the team shortly.

Leafs' Ashton: MRI On Broken Hand

News: Carter Ashton (hand) underwent a bone scan Tuesday on what is believed to be a broken hand, reports the Toronto Sun.
Analysis: He has been dealing with a hand injury since late January, but this is the first indication that it was actually broken. Fingers crossed the MRI was to assess healing and nothing more. There are no results known at this point.

Leafs' Ashton Misses Practice

News: Carter Ashton (hand) did not practice with the team Wednesday, David Alter of Sportsnet 590 reports.
Analysis: Carter Ashton got hurt during Monday's practice, and sat out Tuesday as well. At this point, he looks like a long shot to suit up for Thursday's game against the Islanders.

Leafs' Ashton Misses Practice

News: Carter Ashton (hand), who left Monday's practice early, was not spotted at Tuesday's session, Mark Masters of TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Carter Ashton -- who has three assists in 30 games to date -- was dealing with a hand injury prior to the Olympic break, with his absence from practice Tuesday suggesting that he remains iffy as Thursday's game against the Islanders approaches.

Leafs Move Ashton To IR

News: Carter Ashton (hand) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Damien Cox of the Toronto Sun reports.
Analysis: With Carter Ashton not expected back for the next few games, the Leafs elected to move him to IR to clear up room for David Clarkson's (elbow) return to the lineup. Don't expect to see Ashton until after the break.

Leafs' Ashton Won't Play Tuesday

News: Carter Ashton (hand) will not play Tuesday against the Panthers, David Alter of Sportsnet 590 The Fan reports.
Analysis: At the moment, Carter Ashton's injury is not considered a long-term concern, but there's still a chance the Leafs will keep in the press box through the Winter Olympic break to give him enough time to heal up. Tuesday will mark the second consecutive game he's missed due to the injury.

Leafs' Ashton To Sit Saturday

News: Carter Ashton (hand) will not play Saturday against the Senators, Mark Masters of TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Frazer McLaren was further along in his recovery from injury than Carter Ashton, so he'll draw into the lineup on the fourth line. Ashton is still experiencing some soreness and may not be fully recovered from the injury until after the Winter Olympic break.

Maple Leafs' Ashton Dealing With Sore Hand

News: Carter Ashton is dealing with a hand injury, TSN's Mark Masters reports.
Analysis: Carter Ashton picked up the injury Wednesday, and it is apparently still an issue. It remains to be seen if the setback will prevent Ashton from playing in the Maple Leafs' next game Saturday against the Senators.

Leafs' Ashton Leaves Practice With Injury

News: Carter Ashton left Wednesday's practice with an undisclosed injury, Jonas Siegel of TSN reports.
Analysis: There wasn't an update of Carter Ashton's injury after practice, so the safest thing to do would be to consider him day-to-day until we hear more. The winger has three assists in 29 games this season, so even if his injury causes him to miss some time, it shouldn't be of concern to most fantasy owners.

Leafs Recall Ashton

News: The Maple Leafs recalled Carter Ashton from AHL Toronto on Wednesday, David Alter of Sportsnet 590 reports.
Analysis: Carter Ashton will take the place of Peter Holland on the Leafs' active roster, and could suit up Thursday against the Hurricanes. The winger recorded one assist and 14 PIM in 18 games with the Leafs before being sent down earlier this season.

Maple Leafs Reassign Ashton

News: Carter Ashton was reassigned to AHL Toronto on Saturday, Mark Masters of TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: The forward had been a healthy scratch for both of the Leafs' most recent two games. Troy Bodie was recalled from the minors in a subsequent move to give the Leafs another option on the fourth line.

Leafs Recall Ashton From AHL

News: Carter Ashton was recalled from AHL Toronto on Friday, James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail reports.
Analysis: His call-up was made possible by Joffrey Lupul's placement on injured reserve. Unlike Lupul, Carter Ashton possesses very little acumen as a scorer, with most of his utility existing in an enforcer role.

Leafs' Ashton Sent To AHL

News: Carter Ashton was reassigned to AHL Toronto on Thursday, David Alter of Sportsnet 590 reports.
Analysis: Carter Ashton's playing time has dried up completely in the past week or so. He'll at least get frequent run with the AHL affiliate after averaging just under eight minutes of ice time in his 13 games with the NHL club.

Leafs' Ashton Completes Suspension

News: Carter Ashton has completed his two-game suspension and is eligible to play Saturday vs. the Bruins.
Analysis: Carter Ashton received the two game ban for an illegal hit on the Flames' Derek Smith last week. It's not yet clear if he will in fact be inserted into Saturday's lineup or serve as a healthy scratch, but he's not a major fantasy contributor in any case.

Leafs' Ashton Docked Two Games For Boarding

News: Carter Ashton was suspended for two games Friday for illegally hitting the Flames' Derek Smith into the boards during Wednesday's game, David Alter of Sportsnet 590 The Fan reports.
Analysis: Director of Player Discipline Brendan Shanahan deemed that Carter Ashton's hit on Smith was avoidable, and he'll miss the next two contests as a result. Ashton will be able to return to action Nov. 9 against the Bruins.

Suspension Looming For Leafs' Ashton?

News: Carter Ashton may face supplemental discipline after hitting the Flames' Derek Smith from behind and dangerously into the boards in Wednesday's game.
Analysis: It was an ugly hit -- Carter Ashton crosschecked Smith on the numbers and sent him head-first into the side boards. We'll have to wait to see if Brendan Shanahan has something to say about it.

Leafs Recall Ashton Fom Marlies

News: Carter Ashton was recalled from the AHL Toronto Marlies on Saturday, Mark Masters of TSN. reports.
Analysis: With a light schedule for the Leafs this past week, Carter Ashton was sent down last weekend to get more work on the ice. He played in two games for the Marlies during the week and scored a pair of goals. His call-up was expected, but how much ice time he'll see is still unknown.

Leafs Send Ashton To AHL Affiliate

News: Carter Ashton was sent down to the Leafs' AHL affiliate Sunday, reports David Alter of Sportsnet 590.
Analysis: The Leafs just want Carter Ashton to keep playing, so with the team not scheduled to play until Tuesday, Ashton will play for the Toronto Marlies on Sunday night. He's expected to be recalled shortly after.

Leafs' Ashton In The Mix For Opening Night Roster Spot

News: Carter Ashton is in contention for a spot on the Leafs' third or fourth line, the Toronto Star reports.
Analysis: The Maple Leafs have always been comfortable with Carter Ashton's skills with the puck, but believe that he now possesses the type of physicality necessary for success at the NHL level. If he continues to impress during camp, he could carve out a regular role for the Leafs, albeit a small one.

Ahston Sent Down By Toronto

News: Ahston was assigned to the AHL on Friday, MaplesLeafs.com reports.
Analysis: It's not clear whether this means Toronto doesn't plan to use Carter Ashton against Montreal on Saturday. If this is the end of his season, he finishes with no points in 15 games.
