Avs Bring Back Elliott

News: Stefan Elliott signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Avalanche on Wednesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Analysis: Stefan Elliott appeared in only one game for the Avalanche last season. His 26 points and minus-17 rating over 60 games at AHL Lake Erie weren't overly impressive, and he's probably on the outside looking in for an opening-night roster spot with the parent club.

Avs' Elliott Recalled From AHL

News: Stefan Elliott was recalled from AHL Lake Erie on Saturday, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Better late than never for Stefan Elliott, who will get his first NHL opportunity of the season after recording 14 goals and 14 assists in 61 games with Lake Erie. This is an ominous sign for Tyson Barrie's chances of playing through his upper-body injury Sunday.

Avs Demote Elliott To Lake Erie

News: The Avs sent Stefan Elliott back down to Lake Erie of the AHL, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Denver Post writer Adrian Dater speculates that the team still doesn't think Stefan Elliott's decision-making is up to snuff yet. He's still just 22 so there's time for the light to click on, but this is a setback.

Avs' Elliott Nets Season's First Goal

News: Stefan Elliott scored his first goal of the season in Friday's shootout win over Phoenix.
Analysis: The Avs had been expecting more from Stefan Elliott this season after a few flashes of talent during 39 games last year. Odds are Elliott will be given a more regular role this coming fall for Colorado and he could be a sleeper pick late in drafts, as the Avs need offense from someone on the blue line.

Avs' Elliott Recalled

News: The Avalanche recalled Stefan Elliott from AHL Lake Erie on Saturday, the Denver Post's Adrian Dater reports.
Analysis: Stefan Elliott has been up and down throughout the season, but has yet to register any kind of fantasy impact in the NHL. He does not have any points in seven games this season.

Elliott Sent Down By Avs

News: Elliot has been sent to AHL Lake Erie.
Analysis: Stefan Elliott's demotion paves the way for the Avs to activate Ryan Wilson from IR. In seven games with the big club, Elliott did not record a point and carried a minus-5 rating.

Avs' Elliot Recalled

News: Stefan Elliot has been recalled from AHL Lake Erie.
Analysis: Elliot has been fluctuating between the AHL and NHL roster most of this season, but with news that Ryan Wilson is on IR, he may have a chance to get some playing time with the Avs.

Avs' Elliott Back In AHL

News: The Avs sent Stefan Elliott back to AHL Lake Erie on Friday.
Analysis: The 22-year-old blueliner had been having a hard time cracking the Colorado lineup, so he was returned to the minors to gain more experience. Stefan Elliott's got high-end offensive skill, but his development has taken a step back this year.

Avs' Elliott Recalled From AHL

News: Stefan Elliott was recalled from AHL Lake Erie on Sunday.
Analysis: The promotion will give the Avs some added defensive depth against the Predators on Monday. Stefan Elliott, 22, has recorded eight points (3G, 5A) in 36 games in the AHL this season.

Avs Demote Elliott To Minors

News: Stefan Elliott was reassigned to AHL Lake Erie on Wednesday, reports the Denver Post.
Analysis: Wow, somewhat surprising for a guy who played 39 in contests with the Avs last season, averaging over 17 minutes a game. For a guy who was labeled "can't miss" coming out of junior, he's sure having trouble sticking at the NHL level. Anyone who owns him in a keeper league are no doubt frustrated, but be patient; his time will come.

Avs Recall Elliott

News: Stefan Elliott was recalled from AHL Lake Erie on Thursday and will participate in next week's training camp, reports the Denver Post.
Analysis: Stefan Elliott saw limited action with the Avs last season - recording 13 points in 34 games - but was frequently a healthy scratch down the stretch. He has plenty of offensive upside (241 points over four seasons at WHL Saskatoon), but he is still getting accustomed to the pace of NHL play. If Elliott manages to land himself a roster spot out of training camp, he would probably serve as the Avs' fifth or sixth d-man and see some time on the power play time alongside Erik Johnson.

Avs' Elliott Can't Crack Lineup

News: Stefan Elliott has been a healthy scratch for the past five games.
Analysis: Stefan Elliott's last game was a 4-2 loss to Nashville on Mar. 8. Perhaps not coincidentally, he registered a minus-3 in that game and has not played since. Furthermore, the Avs have since gone on to win four of their last five games, so the chances of Elliott cracking the lineup anytime soon are slim, as coach Joe Sacco typically does not like to tinker with a winning lineup. Elliott has a great future ahead of him as an offensive defenseman, but for now it looks like he will have to bide his time riding the bench.

Avs' Elliott (Jaw) To Play Monday

News: Stefan Elliott will be back in the lineup after taking a puck to the jaw Saturday against Detroit, reports the Denver Post.
Analysis: Stefan Elliott reportedly required seven stitches following the incident, and will start wearing a steel cage to help protect the wound. Elliott has 11 points (4G, 7A) in 33 games in a callup role for the Avs this season. His future fantasy upside is significant, but his current value remains limited as he is still becoming accustomed to the NHL game.

Avs' Elliott Hit By Puck

News: Stefan Elliott took a puck to the face in the first period of Saturday's win over the Wings and played only two shifts all game.
Analysis: Stefan Elliott had recently been called up for his second tour of duty with the team, but was on the third defensive pairing.

Colorado Calls Up Elliott

News: Colorado recalled Stefan Elliott on Tuesday, Denver Post writer Adrian Dater reports.
Analysis: With 11 points (four goals) in 30 appearances in the NHL, Stefan Elliott is a player to keep an eye on.

Rookie Elliott Still Part Of Avs' Future Plans Despite Demotion

News: A decline in Stefan Elliott's quality of play was the reason he was sent back to AHL Lake Erie earlier this month, according to the Denver Post.
Analysis: According to coach Joe Sacco, "We just felt [Stefan Elliott's] play kind of leveled off here. That energy that he brought at the start of his call-up, it wasn't quite there where it should have been the last few games he was playing." The Avs proceeded to replace Elliott with fellow rookie Tyson Barrie, who has since played four games with the big club. Despite this recent setback, Elliott remains a big part of the Avalanche's plans for the future, and it's just a matter of time before he winds up back in the NHL. Those of you in keeper leagues, take note.

Colorado Sends Elliott To AHL

News: Elliot was assigned to the AHL on Saturday, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Stefan Elliott has done fairly well for himself in the NHL to this point, but it appears that Colorado wants to take a look at fellow promising defender prospect Tyson Barrie, who was called up Saturday.

Avs' Elliott Back In Lineup Thursday

News: Stefan Elliott, a healthy scratch for Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Edmonton, will return to the lineup Thursday against Minnesota, according to the Denver Post.
Analysis: "I think we missed Stefan Elliott's offensive presence in [Tuesday's] game, especially on the power play," Avs coach Joe Sacco said. Elliott is expected to take the place of Shane O'Brien who will sit out as a healthy scratch.

Avs' Elliott Avoids Being Healthy Scratch Tuesday

News: Stefan Elliott, who was originally scheduled to sit out Tuesday as a healthy scratch, wound up playing 14:54 during the 3-2 loss to Minnesota.
Analysis: The Avs were without forward Ryan O'Reilly, who was a last-minute scratch due to illness. Instead of adding a forward, coach Joe Sacco decided to go with an extra defenseman, allowing Stefan Elliott to play his 29th consecutive game since being recalled from AHL Lake Erie in November. Be warned, however - Elliott could easily wind up sitting out a game or two after the All-Star break once O'Reilly is healthy again.

Avs' Rookie Elliott To Sit Tuesday As Healthy Scratch

News: Stefan Elliott will sit out Tuesday's game against Minnesota as a healthy scratch, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Stefan Elliott will be replaced in the lineup by Ryan Wilson, who is returning from a two-game absence due to a groin injury. Elliott has 11 points (4G, 7A) in 28 games since being recalled from AHL Lake Erie, but has just two assists in his last 11 games. The Avs have eight healthy defensemen on the roster right now, so it might be tough for Elliott to get back in the lineup. Sit him for now, and monitor his status carefully.

Avs' Elliott Scores Fourth In Win

News: Stefan Elliott scored his fourth goal of the year in Thursday's win over Phoenix.
Analysis: He's got eight points in 17 games, a fine pace for the rookie, who showed a lot of upside in junior hockey, scoring 60 goals over the last two seasons with the WHL's Saskatoon Blades. He'd been a bit quieter in the pros, scoring nine points in 18 AHL games, but it looks like his game is coming together. He showed off a nice snap shot for the goal.

Avs' Elliott Scores Third Goal Of Season

News: Stefan Elliott scored his third goal in his ninth game since getting called up Tuesday.
Analysis: Stefan Elliott continues to get considerable power-play time, even with the return of Erik Johnson. He could be here to stay for the Avs, so look into his availability.

Rookie Elliott Will Continue To See Time With Avs

News: Stefan Elliott will remain in the lineup when Erik Johnson (groin) returns to the lineup Sunday against Detroit, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: With Johnson returning, the question was whether coach Joe Sacco would sit one of his other defensemen, but it looks like he will go with a seven-man blue line for the time being. Sacco said Stefan Elliott and Johnson might be paired together on the power play. In four games since being called up from the AHL, Elliott has three points (2G, 1A) and is averaging over 19 minutes of ice time per game.

Avs' Looking At Keeping Rookie Elliott

News: Stefan Elliott is likely to stay with the Avs for the rest of the season, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: The Avs placed Joakim Lindstrom on waivers Tuesday, which is a good sign the Avs have no intention of sending Stefan Elliott back to AHL Lake Erie. With Erik Johnson (groin) likely to be activated later this week, the Avs would have needed to trim a player from their active roster, and Elliott has shown enough promise already (two points his first two games) to warrant staying. If you've been holding off grabbing Elliott out of concern he might not stick around long, delay no further.

Avs' Rookie Elliott Turns Heads In NHL Debut

News: Stefan Elliott earned praise from coach Joe Sacco following his NHL debut Saturday against the Oilers, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: "[Stefan Elliott] just showed good poise with the puck," said Sacco. "As he's sliding across the blue line, his head is up the whole time. It's a move that comes with having the right skill level, the right skill set." It's worth noting that Elliott, who was replacing injured defenseman Erik Johnson (groin injury), accomplished something in his first game that Johnson has so far failed to do all season - namely, score a goal. The Avs are desperate for a puck-moving defenseman who can provide some offensive pop from the back end, and Elliott certainly has all the tools to be that guy. Walk, don't run, to your league's waiver wire and see if he's still available.
