Preds' Ellis Credited With Assist In Loss

News: Ryan Ellis set up Mattias Ekholm's second-period goal in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Ryan Ellis has registered an assist in three of his last four games, dating back to the Preds' April 11 regular-season finale. The team will need Ellis to take on a greater offensive burden for the remainder of the season with top blueliner Shea Weber's availability in question due to a lower-body injury.

Preds' Ellis Finds Net In Loss To Avs

News: Ryan Ellis scored a goal for the second consecutive game in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Avalanche.
Analysis: After years of failing to live up to the lofty expectations heaped upon him following a successful junior career, Ryan Ellis is finally beginning to emerge as a bona fide offensive NHL rearguard. He now has 26 points in 56 games this season, and would likely be way ahead of the 27 points he scored last season were it not for a lower-body injury that kept him out for most of January and February. Ellis is still skating on the Preds' third defensive pairing, but his average ice time of 18:57 is almost a full three minutes more than the 16:04 he saw last season. He continues to represent good value in medium to deeper fantasy formats.

Preds' Ellis Dishes Out Two Helpers

News: Ryan Ellis dished out two assists in Saturday's win over Buffalo.
Analysis: That's 23 points in 49 games for Ryan Ellis, who is also sporting a solid plus-11 rating. He's got five points in his last eight games and is playing a key role for the Predators. The 24-year-old averages 19:06 of ice time a night and sees second-unit power-play time, making him an attractive fantasy option in deeper formats.

Preds' Ellis Scores Sixth Goal In Loss

News: Ryan Ellis potted his sixth goal of the season in Saturday's loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Ryan Ellis now has a point in back-to-back games since returning from a lower-body injury and has seven points in his last seven outings. The 24-year-old has hit the 20-point mark and is currently sporting a plus-12 rating, so if he's available, he's worth a look.

Preds' Ellis Back In Lineup Thursday

News: Ryan Ellis (lower body) will return to the lineup for Thursday's game against the Islanders, NHL.com's Thomas Willis reports.
Analysis: Considered a game-time decision, Ryan Ellis will play in just his second contest since Jan. 8. He's been productive when healthy this season, with 18 points and a plus-11 rating through 41 appearances.

Preds' Ellis A Game-Time Call

News: Ryan Ellis (lower body) will be a game-time decision Thursday against the Islanders.
Analysis: Ryan Ellis skated on the Preds' third defensive pairing with Mattias Ekholm at the team's morning skate, while Victor Bartley remained on the ice after the session for extra work. That's usually a positive indicator that Ellis might play, but because the Preds are proceeding cautiously with getting the blueliner back in the lineup following a long-term absence, he remains questionable to play. Expect Ellis' status to be clarified during pregame warmups.

Preds' Ellis To Miss Third Straight Game Tuesday

News: General manager David Poile said that Ryan Ellis would sit out a third straight game Tuesday against the Sharks, John Glennon of The Tennessean reports. Poile noted that Ellis, who returned from a lower-body injury last week against the Wild, "didn't have a lot of speed in his game" in his return and was in need of more rest.
Analysis: It doesn't sound like Ryan Ellis suffered a setback during his 11:29 of action last week, but he nonetheless might have returned from injury a bit prematurely. It seems the Predators are just being cautious with Ellis, who has been working out off the ice the last few days. Poile said that Ellis could return to the lineup as soon as Thursday's game against the Islanders, but next week might be a more realistic target date.

Preds' Ellis Not Playing Saturday

News: Ryan Ellis will not be in the lineup Saturday against the Red Wings.
Analysis: After missing more than a month and a half with a lower-body injury, Ryan Ellis returned to the lineup Thursday against the Wild, seeing 11:29 of ice time, which was about eight minutes fewer than his season average. It's not clear if he suffered an injury setback during that contest, or if coach Peter Laviolette is simply making him a healthy scratch Saturday. Regardless, Victor Bartley will replace him on the Preds' third pairing, where he'll skate next to Seth Jones.

Preds' Ellis Set To Return Thursday

News: Ryan Ellis (lower body) is no longer listed on injured reserve, suggesting he'll be available for Thursday's game against the Wild.
Analysis: Coach Peter Laviolette intimated after the Preds' morning skate that Ryan Ellis would be a game-time decision for Thursday's tilt, but barring a late setback, it seems highly likely the defenseman will play for the first time since Jan. 8. Victor Bartley is expected to come out of the lineup to make room for Ellis, who skated on a pair with Seth Jones during the morning session. With five goals and 18 points in 40 games this season, Ellis could still have a shot at surpassing his career-best total of 27 points, despite missing nearly seven weeks of action.

Preds' Ellis Nearing Return From Lower-Body Injury

News: Ryan Ellis (lower-body) is expected to rejoin the lineup Thursday against Minnesota, the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Although no formal announcement was made following the morning skate, fellow blueliner Victor Bartley was on the ice for an extended period, an indication that he would not play that night against the Wild. If that were to be the case, Ryan Ellis would likely get the nod in Bartley's absence. Ellis hasn't played since Jan. 8, missing the team's last 21 games. Technically, he remains on injured reserve, but has been skating with the team for several days and has declared himself ready to go. Either way, be ready to re-insert Ellis back in your fantasy lineups once he gets the official green light to return.

Preds' Ellis Skates On Pairing Wednesday

News: Ryan Ellis (lower body) took part in Wednesday's practice, skating with Seth Jones as the Preds' third pairing, Kristopher Martel of FOX Sports reports.
Analysis: Ryan Ellis' participation alongside Jones would seemingly indicate that he's closing in on a return, though he seemed to back off on playing in the Preds' next game Thursday against the Wild, noting that the injury is "still nagging him." In any event, he at least seems to be progressing in the right direction, and should represent a welcome addition to the blue line corps once he's fully healthy.

Preds' Ellis Still Sidelined

News: Ryan Ellis (lower-body injury) is expected back in the Preds' lineup in a week or two, the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Per the report, the blueliner, who last suited up on Jan. 8, continued skating with the team on Monday, but he's still dealing with some pain at this stage. "I couldn't play right now because it's still pretty painful," said Ryan Ellis, who has recorded 18 points in 40 games to date, to go along with a plus-12 rating. "It just all depends on how fast I get over that pain. If it's next week, it's next week. If it's 10 days, it's 10 days."

Preds' Ellis Skates With Team

News: Ryan Ellis (lower body) took part in the Preds' morning skate Saturday, NHL.com's Robby Stanley reports.
Analysis: Ryan Ellis won't be a lineup consideration for Saturday's game against the Devils, as it's the first time he's been able to skate with the team since suffering the injury Jan. 8. He could begin taking part in full practices within the next couple of days, potentially allowing him to return to action at some point next week.

Preds' Ellis Skates On Own

News: Ryan Ellis (lower body) skated on his own before Tuesday's morning session, NHL.com's Thomas Willis reports.
Analysis: Ryan Ellis is still expected to be out for approximately one more week, and he hasn't played in a game since Jan. 8.

Preds' Ellis Out Another Two Weeks

News: Ryan Ellis (lower body) is expected to be out for approximately two more weeks, The Tennessean reports.

Preds Move Ellis (Lower Body) To IR

News: Ryan Ellis (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.
Analysis: The transaction is just procedural, as Ryan Ellis has been ruled out through at least the next two weeks with the injury. The Predators are expected to call up an extra defenseman from AHL Milwaukee to assume his roster spot.

Preds' Ellis Out Until After All-Star Break

News: Ryan Ellis (lower body) will be out until after the All-Star break, Eric Stromgren of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: The Predators plan to reevaluate Ryan Ellis' condition in about two weeks. Prior to leaving the second period of Thursday's game against the Stars with the injury, Ellis had been enjoying his hottest stretch of play of the season, tallying two goals and three assists over a three-game span. With the specter of a long-term injury now hanging over Ellis, the onus will be on youngster Seth Jones to pick up the slack on the Preds' second pairing.

Preds' Ellis (Lower Body) Likely Out Saturday

News: Ryan Ellis (lower body) was unable to practice Friday, Eric Stromgren of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: With the Predators playing the Wild on Saturday in afternoon tilt, it appears safe to conclude that the blueliner will miss that contest, since the team won't be hold another skate before then to gauge his health. Look for Anton Volchenkov to check back in Saturday in Ryan Ellis's stead.

Preds' Ellis Leaves With Lower-Body Injury

News: Ryan Ellis suffered a lower-body injury in Thursday's game against the Stars and will not return.
Analysis: The origin of Ryan Ellis' injury is a bit unclear, but he will miss the remainder of Thursday's contest at a minimum. He should receive an updated status at some point before Saturday's game against the Wild. The blueliner had been in the midst of a bit of a hot streak, tallying two goals and three assists over his last three games.

Back-To-Back Two-Point Outings For Preds' Ellis

News: Ryan Ellis dished out a pair of power-play assists in Sunday's loss to the Ducks.
Analysis: That's back-to-back multi-point outings for Ryan Ellis, who now has four goals and 17 points in 38 games, to go with an impressive plus-11 rating. Averaging 19:46 of ice time and seeing decent power-play minutes, the 24-year-old could reach the 35-point barrier in 2014-15. As a top-six defenseman on a Nashville team sitting second in the Western Conference, Ellis makes for a good play in some deeper formats.

Two Points For Preds' Ellis

News: Ryan Ellis scored his fourth goal of the season and chipped in an assist in Saturday's wild 7-6 win over the Kings.
Analysis: Ryan Ellis was one of four Predators to post a multi-point effort in this one. He now has 15 points, a plus-10 rating, 78 SOG and 27 PIM in 37 games this season and appears poised to challenge his career high of 27 points set last year. If Shea Weber and Roman Josi found themselves on one of your competitor's rosters this year, you could do worse than to kick the tires on Ellis if you're in need of D help, as he's a very serviceable rearguard on a surprisingly productive Nashville squad that ranks fourth in the Western Conference with 2.95 goals per game.

Preds' Ellis Nabs Goal In Victory

News: Ryan Ellis netted his third goal of the season in Thursday's victory over the Coyotes.
Analysis: The 23-year-old has been a dependable contributor while taking on a greater role for the Predators this season. Ryan Ellis has noticed a rise in ice time of over three minutes compared to a season ago and has been a steady performer, providing 11 points, 17 PIM and 37 blocked shots over 28 contests.

Preds' Ellis Helps Out In Rout

News: Ryan Ellis contributed a pair of assists to Tuesday's 9-2 pasting of the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: The points snapped a four-game drought for Ryan Ellis, who's still stuck on one goal among 37 shots this year, but nonetheless has a respectable nine points in 18 games. His development continues to proceed nicely.

Ellis Carries Preds With Offensive Outburst

News: Ryan Ellis scored his first goal of the year, assisted on the Preds' other two tallies, went plus-2 and potted the winner in the shootout Tuesday against the Coyotes.
Analysis: That's how you put the team on your back. Ryan Ellis had gone four straight without a point after notching an assist in the opener, and this is a heck of a way to break the slump. The 23-year-old Ellis has massive offensive upside, but will have a hard time realizing it while skating on Nashville's third defensive pairing.

Preds' Ellis Joins Team After Contract Signing

News: Ryan Ellis, who signed a five-year $12.5 million contract last week, skated with the team Monday, Eric Stromgren of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Ryan Ellis did not play in either of the team's split-squad scrimmages against the Panthers on Saturday, but could be in the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jackets. We expect he will be fully up to speed once the regular season begins in October.
