Johnson, Isles Sunk By Four-Goal Third Period

News: Chad Johnson allowed five goals on 30 shots -- four of them in the third period -- in Tuesday's loss to the Wild.
Analysis: Through two periods, it looked like the Isles had a win in the bag, as they led 4-1 and Chad Johnson had stopped 14 of 15. However, the Wild poured it on in the third period, particularly later in the frame, when Johnson allowed three goals in just over four minutes. He's now given up a miserable 29 goals in his last seven starts -- that's more than four per game.

Isles Turn To Johnson

News: Chad Johnson has been named a late starter for Tuesday's game in Minnesota, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: It sounds as if regular starter Jaroslav Halak suffered a minor injury, so Chad Johnson gets the start in what will be his 10th appearance of the season.

Isles To Go With Johnson

News: Chad Johnson will be in the crease Friday against the Capitals.
Analysis: Chad Johnson will spell the red-hot Jaroslav Halak in goal, but only because the Islanders are playing the first game of a back-to-back set. The move from Boston to Long Island hasn't proven overly kind for Johnson, despite the 5-2 record he carries into Friday's contest. His 3.33 GAA and .876 save percentage rank 38th and 42nd, respectively, among the 42 qualifying goaltenders.

Isles' Johnson Takes Loss Friday

News: Chad Johnson gave up four goals on 26 shots in Friday's loss to the Capitals.
Analysis: With the way the red-hot Jaroslav Halak is playing, Chad Johnson only got the start Friday because the team plays again Saturday. While his 5-3-0 record on the season is respectable, Johnson's .873 save percentage and 3.42 GAA could definitely use some improvement. Friday marked the fifth time in his past six starts Johnson has allowed at least four goals. While he may be struggling this season, Johnson is still somewhat of a decent fantasy option whenever Halak gets the night off.

Isles' Johnson Grabs Win In Rare Start

News: Chad Johnson wasn't great Friday -- allowing four goals on 30 shots -- but came away victorious in a 5-4 shootout win over the Penguins.
Analysis: This was just the third appearance in November for Jaroslav Halak's backup, who grabbed his fifth win of the season. Chad Johnson is far from one of the league's best second-stringers, as reflected by his lackluster .876 save percentage and 3.34 GAA. The Islanders will turn their net back to Halak for Saturday's tilt, also against the Penguins.

Isles' Johnson To Start Friday

News: Chad Johnson will be in the crease Friday against the Penguins.
Analysis: With the Islanders and Penguins getting together for a back-to-back set, Chad Johnson will start Game 1 for New York while top netminder Jaroslav Halak figures to slot in for the rematch in Long Island. Johnson's bid to unseat Halak as the team's No. 1 starter hasn't picked up much momentum, as the goalie owns a 3.27 GAA and .878 save percentage over seven games this season.

Isles' Johnson A Sieve In Loss

News: Chad Johnson took his second loss of the season Saturday against the Lightning, allowing five goals on 28 shots in defeat.
Analysis: Chad Johnson owns a winning record for the season, but with a horrendous 3.27 GAA and .878 save percentage, he hasn't made a strong case to remain in a timeshare with Jaroslav Halak. As a result of his poor play, Johnson could begin to see his starting duty limited to back-to-back scenarios as a measure of affording Halak some rest.

Isles' Johnson To Start Saturday

News: Chad Johnson will make the start in goal Saturday against the Lightning.
Analysis: Chad Johnson will start for the first time in three games, as Jaroslav Halak's recent dominance has allowed him to reestablish himself as the team's No. 1 netminder. With the Islanders playing their second game in as many days, coach Jack Capuano will simply be resting the hot Halak, putting Johnson in a tough spot against the dangerous Tampa Bay attack. Johnson enters play Saturday with a 4-1 record over six appearances, but he's largely been the beneficiary of a ton of offensive support, as his 2.95 GAA and .889 save percentage certainly haven't been carrying the Islanders to victory.

Johnson, Isles Unseat Kings In Shootout

News: Chad Johnson stopped 28 of 29 shots and both shootout attempts in Thursday's 2-1 road victory over the Kings.
Analysis: It would be tough to blame fantasy owners for shying away from Chad Johnson on Thursday, as he'd allowed five goals in each of his last two starts coming in and was facing the defending Stanley Cup Champions, but he made them regret it by delivering his fourth win in five starts on the season. He had to take his turn, after all, following Jaroslav Halak's impressive win over the Ducks on Wednesday.

Isles To Start Johnson On Thursday

News: Chad Johnson will be between the pipes Thursday against the Kings, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: The Islanders received a strong outing from Jaroslav Halak in Wednesday's victory over the Ducks, but it doesn't look as though coach Jack Capuano is ready to trust him on back-to-back sets just yet. As a result, Chad Johnson will be called upon for his fifth start of the season Thursday, despite his mediocre numbers (3.46 GAA, .870 save percentage). He probably won't make for a dependable option in daily formats against the Kings, who are a league-best 6-1 at home this season.

Isles' Johnson Lit Up For Five Goals

News: Chad Johnson was torched for five goals on just 23 shots in Thursday's shutout loss to Colorado.
Analysis: Chad Johnson's mates actually outshot the Avs easily, 4-23, but Semyon Varlamov was utter perfection on the other end. That's now consecutive five-goal outings for the 28-year-old netminder, but he's shown that he's capable of much better in the relatively small sample of NHL action he's had over the last several seasons. Johnson may have had a chance to start overtaking Jaroslav Halak for starter's minutes, but after these consecutive blowups, it'd be unsurprising to see the Isles turn back to Halak.

Isles Go With Johnson On Thursday

News: Chad Johnson will be in the crease Thursday against the Avalanche.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak's ongoing struggles (3.51 GAA, .889 save percentage over six starts) will pave the way for Chad Johnson to man the net for the third time in four games. Johnson's rate stats are only marginally better than Halak's, so he'll probably need a couple of dominant outings before having a crack at receiving a sustained run of starts.

Isles' Johnson Plays Poorly, But Notches Win

News: Chad Johnson surrendered five goals on 31 shots in Saturday's 7-5 victory over the Stars.
Analysis: Though he claimed the win to move to a perfect 3-0 on the season, Chad Johnson was lucky that opposing goalie Anders Lindback looked performed even more haplessly Saturday. The Islanders granted Johnson the start in each of their last two games, but his uneven performances in those contests won't allow him to pose a major threat at usurping Jaroslav Halak as the team's top netminder.

Isles Stick With Johnson On Saturday

News: Chad Johnson will be in the crease Saturday against the Stars.
Analysis: The Islanders will go with Chad Johnson for the second consecutive game after he snapped the team's two-game losing streak with a hard-fought victory over the Bruins his last time out. With a 2-0 record and .918 save percentage over three appearances, Johnson has been steady for the Islanders when called upon, but a matchup against the high-powered Stars attack will represent his toughest test to date.

Isles' Johnson Gets Revenge On Bruins

News: Chad Johnson stopped 30 of 32 shots in Thursday's 3-2 victory over the Bruins.
Analysis: Despite going 17-4-3 as Boston's backup goaltender last year, Chad Johnson wasn't re-signed in the offseason, as the B's elected to go with Niklas Svedberg as the backup to Tuukka Rask. He got some measure of revenge Thursday, showing his old team just what they're missing by defeating Svedberg, who was in net for Boston. Johnson's outplayed Jaroslav Halak in the early going, but the Isles will likely give Halak plenty of leash.

Islanders' Johnson Gets Thursday Nod

News: Chad Johnson will be in goal for Thursday's game against the Bruins.
Analysis: Fellow goaltender Jaroslav Halak was lit up for five goals in two periods in the Islanders' last game, so Chad Johnson will get the start against his former team Thursday night. Johnson gave up three goals, but picked up the victory in his lone other start this season.

Isles' Johnson Comes Away With Win In Debut

News: Chad Johnson made 21 saves in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Chad Johnson wasn't especially impressive in giving up three goals, but he narrowly outplayed opposing netminder Anton Khudobin to claim his first win as an Islander. He doesn't figure to see a ton of usage behind unquestioned No. 1 goalie Jaroslav Halak, but should represent a respectable option in the net when called upon.

Isles' Johnson To Make Debut

News: Chad Johnson will be in the net Saturday against the Hurricanes.
Analysis: The game will mark Chad Johnson's team debut, after he agreed with the Islanders on a two-year pact in the offseason. Johnson could see a slight bump in his workload this season while serving as the backup to Jaroslav Halak, who while steady, is no Tuukka Rask. That being said, because the Islanders' supporting cast doesn't compare nearly as favorably as the defense and forwards that Johnson had in front of him in Boston, expect his strong ratios from last season (2.10 GAA, .925 save percentage in 27 games) to take a steep hit in his first season on Long Island.

Isles Sign Johnson For Two Years

News: Chad Johnson signed with the Islanders on a two-year, $2.6 million contract Tuesday, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.
Analysis: This could be a very shrewd signing by the Isles, as Chad Johnson performed very well for the Bruins last season as a backup to Tuukka Rask. The additions of Jaroslav Halak and Johnson will vastly improve the Islanders' goaltending, an area that proved to be a major weakness in the team's disappointing 2013-14 season. Halak should still be considered the starter heading into the season, but if he falters out of the gate, Johnson could end up pushing him for that role.

Bruins' Johnson Slated To Hit Free Agency

News: Chad Johnson is slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: With the Bruins having signed fellow goalie Niklas Svedberg to a one-year, one-way contract, Chad Johnson appears poised to play for another team in 2014-15 after going 17-4-3 with a 2.10 goals-against average and .925 save percentage in 27 games for Boston this past season, while backing up Vezina Trophy winner Tuukka Rask.

Johnson Absorbs Bruins' Loss

News: Chad Johnson stopped 28-of-31 shots in Sunday's loss to New Jersey.
Analysis: With the President's Trophy already locked up, Chad Johnson was simply giving number-one goalie Tuukka Rask the day off. The Penguins fifth round pick in 2005, who ends a sharp campaign (17-4-3, 2.10 GAA), became up one of the most reliable goaltender handcuffs in fantasy hockey this season and as a pending UFA could garner some surprising attention this summer.

Bruins To Start Johnson On Sunday

News: Chad Johnson is in line to start Sunday's game against New Jersey, the Bruins' official site reports.
Analysis: With the Bruins having clinched the Presidents' Trophy, the team figures to rest several key cogs Sunday, including top netminder Tuukka Rask, who started Saturday's game against the Sabres. Once the playoffs start, however, the Bruins will roll with Rask, as long as he stays healthy.

Bruins' Johnson Plays Well, Loses In Shootout

News: Chad Johnson made 36 saves Thursday in Winnipeg, but ended up on the wrong end of a 2-1 shootout loss.
Analysis: Tough one for Chad Johnson, who has been stuck with consecutive overtime losses after winning 17 of his first 21 decisions. The Bruins have two games left, and it seems likely he'll start one of them to keep Tuukka Rask fresh for the playoffs.

Bruins To Start Johnson Thursday

News: Chad Johnson will start in goal Thursday versus Winnipeg.
Analysis: Chad Johnson made his last start one week ago against Toronto, when he allowed four goals in an overtime loss. However, starting in place of teammate Tuukka Rask on Thursday, Johnson will face a Jets team that was held scoreless in its most recent outing.

Bruins' Johnson Takes Just Fifth Loss Of Season

News: Chad Johnson allowed four goals on 31 shots in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to Boston.
Analysis: This was just Chad Johnson's fifth loss in 21 starts on the year, with just three of those losses coming in regulation. Unfortunately, those who were counting on him to deliver solid stats in this late-season spot start were sorely disappointed.
