Isles Sign Johnson For Two Years

News: Chad Johnson signed with the Islanders on a two-year, $2.6 million contract Tuesday, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.
Analysis: This could be a very shrewd signing by the Isles, as Chad Johnson performed very well for the Bruins last season as a backup to Tuukka Rask. The additions of Jaroslav Halak and Johnson will vastly improve the Islanders' goaltending, an area that proved to be a major weakness in the team's disappointing 2013-14 season. Halak should still be considered the starter heading into the season, but if he falters out of the gate, Johnson could end up pushing him for that role.

Bruins' Johnson Slated To Hit Free Agency

News: Chad Johnson is slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: With the Bruins having signed fellow goalie Niklas Svedberg to a one-year, one-way contract, Chad Johnson appears poised to play for another team in 2014-15 after going 17-4-3 with a 2.10 goals-against average and .925 save percentage in 27 games for Boston this past season, while backing up Vezina Trophy winner Tuukka Rask.

Johnson Absorbs Bruins' Loss

News: Chad Johnson stopped 28-of-31 shots in Sunday's loss to New Jersey.
Analysis: With the President's Trophy already locked up, Chad Johnson was simply giving number-one goalie Tuukka Rask the day off. The Penguins fifth round pick in 2005, who ends a sharp campaign (17-4-3, 2.10 GAA), became up one of the most reliable goaltender handcuffs in fantasy hockey this season and as a pending UFA could garner some surprising attention this summer.

Bruins To Start Johnson On Sunday

News: Chad Johnson is in line to start Sunday's game against New Jersey, the Bruins' official site reports.
Analysis: With the Bruins having clinched the Presidents' Trophy, the team figures to rest several key cogs Sunday, including top netminder Tuukka Rask, who started Saturday's game against the Sabres. Once the playoffs start, however, the Bruins will roll with Rask, as long as he stays healthy.

Bruins' Johnson Plays Well, Loses In Shootout

News: Chad Johnson made 36 saves Thursday in Winnipeg, but ended up on the wrong end of a 2-1 shootout loss.
Analysis: Tough one for Chad Johnson, who has been stuck with consecutive overtime losses after winning 17 of his first 21 decisions. The Bruins have two games left, and it seems likely he'll start one of them to keep Tuukka Rask fresh for the playoffs.

Bruins To Start Johnson Thursday

News: Chad Johnson will start in goal Thursday versus Winnipeg.
Analysis: Chad Johnson made his last start one week ago against Toronto, when he allowed four goals in an overtime loss. However, starting in place of teammate Tuukka Rask on Thursday, Johnson will face a Jets team that was held scoreless in its most recent outing.

Bruins' Johnson Takes Just Fifth Loss Of Season

News: Chad Johnson allowed four goals on 31 shots in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to Boston.
Analysis: This was just Chad Johnson's fifth loss in 21 starts on the year, with just three of those losses coming in regulation. Unfortunately, those who were counting on him to deliver solid stats in this late-season spot start were sorely disappointed.

Bruins' Johnson Gets Thursday Start

News: Chad Johnson will start Thursday's game against Toronto.
Analysis: Chad Johnson gets the nod in the second of a back-to-back set, allowing fellow goalie Tuukka Rask a game off. In one previous start versus the Maple Leafs this season, Johnson recorded a win while saving 30 of 32 shot attempts.

Bruins Could Start Johnson On Thursday

News: Chad Johnson could be in line to start Thursday's game against the Maple Leafs after Tuukka Rask drew the start Wednesday against the Red Wings.
Analysis: Confirmation of the B's starter in net will come as Thursday's faceoff approaches, but given the back-to-back game scenario in play here, it wouldn't surprise us to see Chad Johnson get the nod.

Bruins' Johnson Saves 31 In Win

News: Chad Johnson saved 31 of 33 shots in Saturday's win over the Capitals.
Analysis: Staked to a 3-0 lead in the game's first 10 minutes, Chad Johnson never really felt threatened in this one. It's been a familiar refrain for Johnson and No. 1 goalie Tuukka Rask for the past month now, making both netminders worthy starts on just about any night they take the net.

Bruins Start Johnson On Saturday

News: Chad Johnson will be between the pipes for the Bruins when they face the Capitals on Saturday, Joe Haggerty of CSNNE.com reports.
Analysis: Chad Johnson has won seven of his last eight, including five in a row, and has allowed just 13 goals in that span. He is currently 16-3-1 with an impressive 2.04 GAA and .925 save percentage.

Bruins' Johnson Shuts Out Avs On Friday

News: Chad Johnson stopped all 31 shots he faced as the Bruins shut out the Avalanche 2-0 on Friday.
Analysis: Chad Johnson has now won his last five decisions and given up just six goals in that span. He's been playing almost as much as Tuukka Rask since returning from the Olympic break and both have been white hot, so he could continue to see more starts than originally expected. He is currently 16-3-1 with a 2.04 GAA and .925 save percentage.

Bruins' Johnson Expected To Start Friday

News: Chad Johnson is expected to start in goal Friday against the Avalanche.
Analysis: Chad Johnson was the first goalie off the ice at morning skate, a good indicator that he will be between the pipes Friday night. The 27-year-old has had the hot hand of late, with two or fewer goals allowed in each of his last four outings, but look for him to give way to Tuukka Rask on Saturday.

Bruins' Johnson Tallies Fourth Straight Win

News: Chad Johnson picked up his fourth consecutive win and 15th in 22 games (18 starts) this season Tuesday in New Jersey, stopping 22 of 24 in a 4-2 victory.
Analysis: One of the league's most capable backups on one of the league's best teams, Chad Johnson has in fact not taken a regulation defeat since way back on Dec. 28. He's a terrific roll whenever Tuukka Rask gets a rest.

Bruins Start Johnson On Tuesday

News: Chad Johnson will start Tuesday's game against the Devils.
Analysis: Chad Johnson, who has won his last three turns, will give Monday's starter, Tuukka Rask, a breather on Tuesday. He'll be working behind a surging Bruins' squad that is in the midst of a nine-game winning streak.

Bruins' Johnson Cruises to Victory Saturday

News: Chad Johnson allowed just one goal on 30 shots in his 17th start of the season Saturday, grabbing a 5-1 win over the visiting Hurricanes.
Analysis: Chad Johnson has proved to be a capable backup to workhorse Tuuka Rask and now has a 14-3-1 record to show for it. His 2.15 GAA and .921 save percentage are also respectable. Most importantly, Johnson's overall performance should give B's coach Claude Julien the confidence to use the 27-year-old a few more times down the stretch to keep Rask fresh for the postseason. If Johnson is between the pipes, there's no reason why you shouldn't roll him.

Bruins Start Johnson On Saturday

News: Chad Johnson will start in goal for the Bruins when they face the Hurricanes on Saturday, Joe Haggerty of CSN New England reports.
Analysis: Chad Johnson has won his last two starts and has allowed just three goals over that span. He is 13-3-1 with a 2.22 GAA and .919 save percentage.

Bruins Expected To Start Johnson On Thursday

News: Chad Johnson is expected to receive the start in goal Thursday vs. the Coyotes, Mike Loftus of the Patriot Ledger reports.
Analysis: After Tuukka Rask got the start a night earlier for the Bruins, look for Claude Julien to give the net to Chad Johnson on Thursday, as he faces off against his former team. Johnson has gathered wins in seven of his last eight starts, including two victories earlier this month over the Panthers.

Bruins' Johnson Backs Up Rask On Thursday

News: Chad Johnson's teammate, Tuukka Rask, will start Thursday's game against the Coyotes.
Analysis: Rask, who also started Wednesday 4-1 win over Montreal, will try to lead the B's to their seventh straight win. Chad Johnson's last turn for the team came in this past Sunday's victory over Florida.

Bruins' Johnson Stops 20 In Win

News: Chad Johnson made 20 saves on 22 shots in a win over the Panthers on Sunday.
Analysis: Chad Johnson has won four of his last five starts, and he hasn't let in more than two goals in those four wins. However, those wins have come since February 1, as he does not play a lot behind Tuukka Rask.

Bruins Turn To Johnson On Sunday

News: Chad Johnson will start Sunday's game against the Panthers.
Analysis: Chad Johnson will square off against Florida's Roberto Luongo on Sunday, while giving Tuukka Rask -- Saturday's starter in nets for the B's -- a breather.

Bruins' Johnson Victorious In Spot Action

News: Chad Johnson allowed just one goal on 24 shots in Tuesday's 4-1 victory over the Panthers.
Analysis: An easy cruise to victory for Chad Johnson, who's now won 12 times in 15 starts this season. All in all, in 19 appearances, he's held the opposition to two or fewer goals 15 times. That makes him a solid roll whenever he's called upon to give Tuukka Rask a break.

Bruins' Johnson The Confirmed Starter Tuesday

News: As expected, Chad Johnson led the Bruins on the ice for pregame warmups and will get the start Tuesday vs. the Panthers, Joe Haggerty of CSNNE.com reports.
Analysis: Chad Johnson will look to make amends from his awful turn his last time out, as he surrendered five goals on just 26 shots in a loss to the lowly Sabres. With the exception of that outing, Johnson has been largely magnificent for the Bruins this season, carrying a 2.31 GAA and .917 save percentage over 18 appearances.

Bruins Expected To Start Johnson On Tuesday

News: Chad Johnson was the first goalie off the ice Tuesday morning, indicating that he's in line to start the Bruins' evening contest against the Panthers.
Analysis: With Tuukka Rask having drawn back-to-back starts over the weekend, Chad Johnson is in line to make his 15th start overall, which would mark his second turn since the conclusion of the Olympic break.

Bruins' Johnson Allows Five In Loss

News: Chad Johnson allowed five goals on 26 shot attempts in Wednesday's loss to the Sabres.
Analysis: With Tuukka Rask back in Boston taking a little rest after his performance for Finland in the Olympics, Chad Johnson took the start. He dropped the game in overtime as the Bruins lost to a sluggish Sabres' squad. With Boston returning home Saturday, it seems likely that Rask will be back in net with Johnson possibly seeing a start in the back-to-back.
