Leafs' Kadri: Three Points In Last Two Games

News: Nazem Kadri scored a goal in Wednesday's loss to Buffalo. He now has three points, including two goals, in his late two games.
Analysis: He knows he needs to prove he's part of the Leafs' future, so it looks like he's showing it with hard work and offence. Take a risk -- he could help push your team to a title.

Leafs' Kadri Gets Goal, Assist

News: Nazem Kadri picked up his first points since his return from suspension when he scored a power-play goal and added an even-strength assist in a win over the Lightning on Tuesday night.
Analysis: He now has 17 goals and 21 assists in 68 games. Nazem Kadri really needs to throw down some good efforts in the Leafs' remaining games to prove to team brass that he deserves to be part of Toronto's future.

Kadri Returns To Toronto Lineup

News: Nazem Kadri returned from suspension Saturday and was "rusty" in the eyes of interim head coach Peter Horacheck, reports TSN.ca. However, he also noted that Kadri's "focus to want to be good is there and that's what we want to see out of him."
Analysis: He played 18:23 in his return, but he didn't get a point. Time will tell if he's learned any lessons from his recent team suspension.

Leafs' Kadri Back From Suspension

News: Nazem Kadri will return from a four-game suspension Saturday against the Senators, TSN's Jonas Siegel reports.
Analysis: Nazem Kadri served his time for an illegal hit on the Oilers' Matt Fraser, who remains sidelined by a concussion. The Maple Leafs sent Greg McKegg back to AHL Toronto to make room for Kadri on the roster.

Leafs' Kadri Suspended Four Games

News: Nazem Kadri was handed a four-game suspension Wednesday for his illegal hit on the Oilers' Matt Fraser during Monday's game, Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: Fraser will miss time after sustaining a concussion as a result of the hit, and the league office determined that Nazem Kadri would have to face an absence of his own as a consequence. It's the second suspension of the month for Kadri, who served a team-imposed three-game ban due to an apparent lack of maturity. With only three healthy centers on the roster while Peter Holland (lower body) deals with an injury, expect the Leafs to recall a player from AHL Toronto to step in for Kadri, who is eligible to return Mar. 28 against the Senators.

Leafs' Kadri To Have NHL Hearing

News: Nazem Kadri will have a hearing with the NHL on Wednesday to discuss a hit on Oilers forward Matt Fraser during Monday's game, the Toronto Sun reports.
Analysis: Nazem Kadri was assessed a minor penalty for an illegal check to the head, and he acknowledged after the game that he might be punished for it. He served a three-game suspension last season for a goalie interference incident, but his disciplinary record is otherwise fine. Kadri's recent team-mandated suspension for off-ice transgressions shouldn't be a factor in determining his punishment.

Leafs' Kadri Back In Action

News: Nazem Kadri (team suspension) returned to action Saturday and played 18:00. He finished with four hits, two SOG and a minus-1 rating.
Analysis: Get him back in there if you've been using him regularly.

Leafs' Kadri Will Reenter Lineup Saturday

News: Coach Peter Horachek confirmed that Nazem Kadri (suspension) will return to the lineup Saturday against the Canucks, Mark Masters of TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Nazem Kadri will still sit out a third straight game Friday against the Flames as part of a team-imposed suspension, but it appears he's since atoned for the misdeeds that resulted in the banishment. The 24-year-old's maturity has been called into question at multiple turns this season, but as one of the Leafs' most talented players, the team still views him as an integral part of their present and future. Look for Kadri, who has 16 goals and 36 points in 64 games this season, to settle back in to a top-six role immediately upon returning.

Leafs' Kadri Out Next Two In Disciplinary Move

News: General manager Brendan Shanahan said Nazem Kadri would sit out the Leafs' next two games for disciplinary reasons, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: The Leafs made Nazem Kadri a healthy scratch for Monday's game against the Islanders after he arrived late for a meeting a day earlier, but Shanahan hinted that the enigmatic center has been having more than simply tardiness issues this season. Both the Leafs' front office and coaching staff met and determined that Kadri had been engaging in a problematic pattern of decision making, and the team is hoping a lengthier punishment will result in a change in behavior. As a result, Kadri will sit out games Wednesday and Friday, with his return to the lineup likely to come Saturday against the Canucks. The 24-year-old's contract is set to expire after the season, but given the headaches he's caused both on the ice and off of it, the Leafs may find it difficult to hand out a long-term extension to him.

Kadri Expected Back In Leafs' Lineup Wednesday

News: Nazem Kadri is expected back Wednesday against the Sabres. reports the Toronto Sun.
Analysis: He was benched Monday for arriving 20 minutes late for a team meeting on Sunday. He needs a strong finish to the season as he enters restricted free agency, so look for him to push hard when he returns to the lineup. Take a chance and activate him.

Leafs' Kadri (Suspension) Won't Play Monday

News: Nazem Kadri won't play Monday against the Islanders, David Alter of the Leafs' official site reports.
Analysis: Nazem Kadri was late for a team meeting Sunday, which has led the team suspend him for at least Monday's contest. He has taken full responsibility for his actions and apologized to his coaches and teammates, so it wouldn't be surprising if he's back for the team's next contest Wednesday against the Sabres.

Leafs' Kadri Could Sit Monday

News: Nazem Kadri missed a team meeting Sunday morning and could be held out of Monday's game against the Islanders, Jonas Siegel of TSN 1050 reports.
Analysis: It's possible Nazem Kadri's absence is related to the time shift from daylight savings, but that may not be enough of an excuse to keep him from missing Monday's contest. He has two points in the last three contests, which could remain the case if he doesn't dress.

Leafs' Kadri Back At Practice

News: Nazem Kadri (illness) was back at practice Wednesday, David Alter of MapleLeafs.com reports.
Analysis: Nazem Kadri was excused a day earlier after coming down with the illness. He was a full participant in Wednesday's session, so expect him to be ready to play Thursday against the Flyers.

Leafs' Kadri Misses Practice Due To Illness

News: Nazem Kadri (illness) did not practice Tuesday, TSN's Mark Masters reports.
Analysis: Nazem Kadri is expected to return to practice Wednesday, indicating that the illness isn't overly serious. Assuming he does practice, Kadri should be fine for Thursday's game against the Flyers.

Leafs' Kadri: Four Points In Last Three Games

News: Nazem Kadri scored a goal and added an assist in Saturday's OT win over the Jets. He has four points, including three assists, in his last three games.
Analysis: We have to give him credit -- he's one of the only Leafs to truly buy into interim coach Peter Horacek's defensive system. He's not likely to improve on his 50-point season from 2013-14, at least not this season. But there appears to be more hope for his development than we've had in a while.

Leafs' Kadri Assists Twice In Loss

News: Nazem Kadri netted power-play assists on both Toronto goals Tuesday in a 3-2 loss to Florida.
Analysis: Stunningly, this represents Nazem Kadri's first multi-point output since way back on Dec. 23 in Dallas. The Leafs have been particularly atrocious since mid-December or so, and Kadri's struggles have been symptomatic of the team's as a whole. He'd managed only three points in his last nine games entering Tuesday's action, and just five in his last 16.

Leafs' Kadri Finds Net In Loss

News: Nazem Kadri potted a third-period goal in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Leafs.
Analysis: Nazem Kadri's marker seems to briefly invigorate the Leafs, as teammate Mike Santorelli followed 37 seconds later with a goal to give Toronto a short-lived 3-2 lead. Kadri would end up pacing the Leafs with six shot attempts in the game, but it wasn't enough for the team to end its losing streak, which now sits at 10 games. The center has provided only three points during that time.

Leafs' Kadri Gets Goal, But Goes Minus-2 in Loss

News: Nazem Kadri netted a power-play goal on one of his five shot attempts in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Hurricanes. He also added two PIM and skated a team-high 24:03 in defeat.
Analysis: Nazem Kadri was quite possibly the best player of the ice for the Leafs on Monday, but that's not saying much for this punchless outfit. Toronto has lost eight of nine games in January thanks to a disappearing act by its offense, with Kadri representing a primary culprit. He's produced just two points during the month.

News: Nazem Kadri (undisclosed) was on the ice for pregame warmups Wednesday, and is expected to play in the 7 PM E.T. contest against the Capitals, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: Nazem Kadri was on the ice for morning skate, and this recent development suggests he'll suit up for the evening contest. He's projected to skate on the Leaf's top line with Daniel Winnik and Phil Kessel.

Leafs' Kadri (Undisclosed) Could Play Wednesday

News: Nazem Kadri (undisclosed) was on the ice for the Leafs' morning skate and looks like he could be a lineup option for Wednesday's game against the Capitals.
Analysis: With interim coach Peter Horachek running the show for the fired Randy Carlyle, Nazem Kadri found himself on the top line with Phil Kessel, as Tyler Bozak was bumped to the second trio. Kadri didn't seem to be facing many limitations during the skate, but the Leafs have yet to confirm that he'll suit up Wednesday. He's been out for the last week while dealing with the undisclosed injury.

Leafs' Kadri (Undisclosed) Out For Weekend

News: Nazem Kadri (undisclosed) will not play either Friday or Saturday.
Analysis: Nazem Kadri's injury became evident earlier Friday, when he didn't take the ice for optional skate following a maintenance day Thursday. It appears he will not be available Friday, with Richard Panik drawing into the lineup in his place. Kadri's next chance to return will come Wednesday against the Capitals.

Leafs' Kadri (Undisclosed) A Question Mark Friday

News: Nazem Kadri is nursing an undisclosed injury and is questionable to play Friday against the Wild, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: Nazem Kadri was held out of Thursday's practice for maintenance purposes and remained off the ice for Friday's optional skate. The Leafs will run some medical assessments on Kadri in the afternoon as they look to discern the nature of his injury, but at the very least, it sounds like he could be dealing with some body soreness. He was on the receiving end of a few big hits in Wednesday's game against Boston, one of which resulted in a brief trip to the locker room.

Kadri Stretches Streak To Four Games In Leaf Loss

News: Nazem Kadri extended his current point streak to three games and four points (two goals, two assists) with a helper in Monday's loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: He did go five-for-11 in the face-off dot and finished plus-1 on the night, so those are slight improvements from his last few outings. His value depends on your format. Use him if you can withstand a fluctuating plus-minus.
