Wild's Keumper Ends Shutout Streak

News: Darcy Kuemper stopped 24 of 26 shots in Friday's loss to Anaheim. He had a franchise-record shutout streak end in the third period at 163 minutes, 46 seconds, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper played well in the loss and should remain the primary goalie for the Wild in the short term. However, Niklas Backstrom is likely to start Sunday against the Kings.

Wild's Kuemper Starting In Net Friday

News: Darcy Kuemper will start in net Friday against the Ducks, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper recorded two shutouts against the Avalanche in the first two games of the season and will look to run that number to three Friday. With Josh Harding out for a lengthy period of time with a broken foot, Kuemper should continue to receive most of the starts ahead of Niklas Backstrom.

Wild's Kuemper Opens Season With Two Shutouts

News: Darcy Kuemper stopped all 30 shots he faced in Saturday's win over Colorado, giving him back-to-back shutouts to open the year.
Analysis: A terrific start for Darcy Kuemper, who has stopped all 46 shots he has faced through two games. With Josh Harding out two to three months with a broken foot, this is Kuemper's time to take over the No. 1 role in Minnesota. While veteran Niklas Backstrom was expected to split starts with him this season, the 24-year-old's early success makes him the favorite to run away with the starting gig.

Wild To Start Kuemper On Saturday

News: Darcy Kuemper will be in the net for Saturday's game against the Avalanche.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper shut out the Avs in Thursday's season opener, so the Wild will go back to the well once again. The netminder only had to stop 16 shots in the victory, so the shutout wasn't really of the dominant variety. Nonetheless, he still has a clear lead over Niklas Backstrom in the battle for No. 1 duties in goal.

Wild's Kuemper Shuts Out Colorado

News: Darcy Kuemper stopped all 16 shots he faced Thursday to record a shutout in the Wild's 6-0 win over Colorado.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper wasn't tested much in the lopsided win, but he still had a strong outing that should give him an early lead on Niklas Backstrom in the competition for starts at goalie.

Wild's Kuemper Gets Opening Night Start

News: Darcy Kuemper will start in net for Minnesota's season opener Thursday against Colorado, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper will begin the season in a platoon with Niklas Backstrom in goal with the better performer getting the bulk of the starts in the State of Hockey. As for now, it looks like Kuemper has a slight early edge in the competition after being appointed the starter in the Wild's season opener.

Kuemper-Backstrom To Split Wild Goalie Duties

News: Darcy Kuemper will begin the season in a platoon with Niklas Backstrom in goal with the better performer getting the bulk of starts, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: It's not clear who will start the Wild's first game, but it looks like Darcy Kuemper and Backstrom will split starts until a primary goalie emerges. Both played well in the preseaon, but Kuemper may have the early edge since he started the final preseason game.

Wild's Kuemper Making Case For No. 1 Job

News: Darcy Kuemper will start both of the Wild's final two preseason contests, Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: The decision would seem to signal that he's got the inside track on the starting job, as the latter stages of the exhibition schedule are typically treated by coaches as dress rehearsals for the regular season. It's still likely that Darcy Kuemper and fellow No. 1 goalie contender Niklas Backstrom share duties between the pipes in the early stages of the season, but Kuemper's superior numbers in 2013-14 (12-8-4, 2.43 GAA, .915 save %) make him the preferable option of the two to own.

Wild's Kuemper Has Solid Preseason Debut

News: Darcy Kuemper stopped 14-of-15 shots while playing 40 minutes in Thursday's exhibition loss to Pittsburgh.
Analysis: The first round of the battle for playing time between Darcy Kuemper and Niklas Backstrom was a draw with both goalies having strong games in net (Backstrom stopped all 12 shots he faced Monday). The battle for the starting goalie job will likely be decided late in training camp.

Wild And Kuemper Negotiations Stalled

News: Other than a couple of text messages, the Wild and Darcy Kuemper have not had substantial negotiations over a new contract and he may not report to training camp, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: With Josh Harding out several months with a broken foot, the Wild would appear to be highly motivated to sign Darcy Kuemper. However, the two sides are having a dispute about his guaranteed status on the NHL roster and Kuemper's agent has said he's exploring playing overseas. The Wild are offering a two-way deal while Kuemper wants a one-way deal. With Kuemper's status in doubt, the Wild have reached out to Ilya Bryzgalov about coming to training camp. It's still possible Kuemper could sign at the last second, but his status for the NHL season remains uncertain.

Wild Sign Kuemper To Two-Year Deal

News: Darcy Kuemper signed a two-year contract with the Wild on Thursday, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Tribune reports.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper's negotiations reportedly had stalled recently, but obviously had not as he has finally signed with the team following a long summer of negotiations. With Josh Harding going down with a broken foot, Kuemper figures to see a large portion of games in net for the Wild, with the 36-year-old Niklas Backstrom being the other goaltender challenging for playing time.

Wild's Kuemper Talks To KHL Teams

News: Darcy Kuemper and the Wild haven't been able to agree to a contract for the 2014-15 season and his agent has spoken to teams in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League about playing overseas, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper is a restricted free agent and the Wild are offering a two-way deal while Kuemper wants a one-way deal. It's not clear if Kuemper will begin the season as Minnesota's starting goalie with Josh Harding and Niklas Backstrom both under contract and returning from health issues last season. It seems unlikely that Kuemper would sign with a KHL team, but he could begin the season overseas and have an out clause put into his contract where he could return to the Wild. With Harding missing significant time each of the last two seasons due to setbacks to his multiple sclerosis, it would seem likely the Wild would relent and sign Kuemper to a deal that has him paid a NHL salary if he's sent to the minors.

News: Darcy Kuemper (upper body) will back up Ilya Bryzgalov in Tuesday's Game 6 against the Blackhawks, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper, who started 25 regular season games for the Wild, last suited up on April 30, when he suffered an upper-body injury in the third period of Game 7 of the team's first-round series triumph over the Avalanche.

News: Darcy Kuemper (upper body) is a candidate to back up Ilya Bryzgalov on Tuesday against the Blackhawks, Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper last suited up on April 30, but it looks like he has progressed to the point where he could serve as the team's backup goalie as soon as Tuesday's Game 6.

Wild's Kuemper Not Skating Friday

News: Darcy Kuemper (upper body) was kept off the ice Friday, Fox Sports North reports.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper had been skating the past week which looked to open the door to him being available as the team's backup. However, it doesn't sound like he's ready to return in the next few days.

Wild's Kuemper Takes The Ice

News: Darcy Kuemper (upper body) skated Tuesday.
Analysis: As coach Mike Yeo noted, it's a step in the right direction for the goalie, but Darcy Kuemper is still not ready to join the team's lineup. As a result, Ilya Bryzgalov will continue to man the Wild's net as the team's second-round series against Chicago continues with Tuesday's Game 3.

Wild's Kuemper (Upper Body) Day-to-Day

News: Darcy Kuemper (upper body) has not traveled to Chicago for Friday's Game 1 versus the Blackhawks, but is considered day-to-day moving forward, the Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper left Wednesday's Game 7 triumph during the third period and was replaced by Ilya Bryzgalov, who closed out regulation and overtime. With Kuemper still being examined by the Wild medical staff, Bryzgalov is expected to start Game 1 against Chicago on Friday evening. However, Kuemper being listed as day-to-day preserves a chance for him to reclaim his starting position later in the series.

Wild's Kuemper Exits In Third Period

News: Darcy Kuemper left Wednesday's Game 7 with 8:13 remaining in the third period due to an apparent injury, the teams' official site reports.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper went straight to the locker room with his Wild trailing 4-3, appearing to have been noticeably shaken up. If the Wild manage to come back and win Wednesday's deciding game, his status may be in question for the following series. Ilya Bryzgalov will finish this one out for the Wild.

Wild's Kuemper Stops 21 In Win

News: Darcy Kuemper made 21 saves on 23 shots in a Game 6 win over the Avalanche on Monday.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper bounced back after his first loss in the series to force a Game 7. This will determine whether or not Kuemper will have any more fantasy value this postseason.

Wild's Kuemper Earns Another Start

News: Darcy Kuemper will be in the net for Monday's Game 6 against the Avalanche, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: After seeing a total of 33 shots in Games 3 and 4, Darcy Kuemper was pummeled for 35 shots in Saturday's Game 5 loss, letting in four tallies. Coach Mike Yeo will stick with Kuemper over Ilya Bryzgalov in any case, with Kuemper picking up the team's only two wins in the series to date.

Wild's Kuemper Faces Just 12 Shots In Game 4 Win

News: The Avalanche put just 12 shots on Darcy Kuemper in Thursday's Game 4, and he stopped 11 of them for a 2-1 win to even the series.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper's drawn both the Wild's home dates and come away with wins in each, with a major "thank you" to his offense and defense -- Minnesota's outshot the Avs by a ridiculous 78-34 margin in those two games. Hopefully, Kuemper brought a magazine to the net with him in this one to fend off boredom.

News: Darcy Kuemper will start Thursday against Colorado in Game 4 of the Wild's first-round playoff series, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

News: Darcy Kuemper stopped all 22 shots he faced in an overtime victory against the Avalanche in Monday's Game 3.

News: Darcy Kuemper will start Monday's game against the Avalanche.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper, who took over for Ilya Bryzgalov in Saturday's loss to the Avs, appears past his upper body injury and will be making his first start for the team since March 27, with the Wild down 2-0 in their first-round playoff series.

Kuemper's Relief Effort Not Enough For Wild

News: Darcy Kuemper (upper body) was summoned to action in the second period of Saturday's Game 2 against Colorado after starter Ilya Bryzgalov allowed three goals. Kuemper stopped all 14 shots he faced, but the Wild were unable to dig out of an early hole and fell, 4-2.
Analysis: When the series moves to Minnesota for Game 3, he'll likely get the nod as long as he's anywhere near healthy enough to go.
