Wild's Kuemper Dealing With Stomach Flu

News: Darcy Kuemper was unable to start Tuesday's game against the Blackhawks due to a case of the stomach flu, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: After several of the team's defensemen were casualties of the mumps virus earlier this season, it appears that the stomach flu is the latest bug to pass around the locker room. Both Jared Spurgeon and Charlie Coyle had dealt with the stomach issue in recent days, and Darcy Kuemper succumbed to the illness at some point Tuesday afternoon, limiting him to backup duties for the game. It didn't sound like his condition had improved much after the contest, so Kuemper figures to be on hand strictly as an emergency backup Wednesday against the Bruins.

Wild's Kuemper Looks Like Scratch For Tuesday

News: Despite being announced as the starter for Tuesday's game against the Blackhawks, it appears Darcy Kuemper will serve as the backup behind Niklas Backstrom due to an undisclosed issue, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper seemed healthy during the Wild's gameday skate and was confirmed as Tuesday's starter by coach Mike Yeo about an hour and a half before warmups, but it was Backstrom who led the team onto the ice Tuesday and will receive the nod. Expect the Wild to provide further information on Kuemper's late scratch, as it's possible he might have come down with an illness in the afternoon.

Wild's Kuemper To Face Blackhawks On Tuesday

News: Darcy Kuemper will start Tuesday's game against the Blackhawks, Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper will look to get back in the win column after losing each of his last two starts, but that will not come easy against a Chicago team that currently sits third in the league with 43 points.

Wild's Kuemper Stops 28 In Loss

News: Darcy Kuemper saved 28 of 30 on Thursday against the Sharks, but was stuck with a 2-1 loss.
Analysis: His teammates didn't help him out by putting only 19 shots on Alex Stalock down at the other end of the ice, leaving Darcy Kuemper to his fourth loss in the last six games. But he did play well, and the Wild seem fairly committed to riding through the ups and downs with him as their starter.

Wild Turn Net Over To Kuemper On Thursday

News: Darcy Kuemper will be in the crease Thursday against the Sharks, Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper submitted a disastrous outing his last time out Friday against the Ducks, yielding five goals on 18 shots before he was pulled with 11 minutes remaining in the final period. The young goalie has been frustratingly prone to both sheer dominance (three shutouts) and epic collapses (three early hooks), making him something of a risk on the road against a San Jose squad that is only a week removed from a seven-goal effort against the Bruins.

Wilds' Kuemper Gets The Yank In Loss

News: Darcy Kuemper was yanked Friday against Anaheim after giving up five goals on 18 shots.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper has given up at least four goals in three of his last four games and has been pulled in three of his last four home starts. The 24-year-old is now 11-8-0 on the season with a .905 save percentage and 2.47 GAA. While he has struggled of late, Kuemper remains a viable fantasy option on a Minnesota team sitting 10th in the Western Conference.

Wild To Go With Kuemper On Friday

News: Darcy Kuemper will be in the crease Friday against the Ducks, Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: After a woeful outing against the Kings last week, Darcy Kuemper has responded with two quality turns, stopping a cumulative 59-of-64 shots (.921 save percentage) in wins over the Stars and Canadiens. The Western Conference-leading Ducks will represent a taller order for Kuemper, but he'll have the advantage of playing on home ice.

Wild's Kuemper Allows One In Win

News: Darcy Kuemper stopped 18 of the 19 shots he faced in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Canadiens.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper picked up his second straight win as the Wild severely outshot the Habs 35-19. Kuemper is now 11-7-0 on the season with a .912 save percentage and a 2.28 GAA.

Wild's Kuemper To Start Wednesday

News: Darcy Kuemper will be between the pipes for Wednesday's game against the Canadiens.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper will get the nod against a Candiens team that beat him 4-1 Nov. 8 and is currently tied for the most points in the league (36) with the Lightning.

Wild's Kuemper Shaky But Gets Win

News: Darcy Kuemper gave up four goals on 40 shots, but got the win in Minnesota's 5-4 overtime victory over Dallas.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper was spotted a 3-0 lead and then gave up three goals in the second period. However, the Wild stuck with him in goal and he righted the ship, so that should be a boost in his confidence after he was pulled early in his last start. Niklas Backstrom is likely to start Saturday in the second of back-to-back games.

Wild's Kuemper To Start Friday

News: Darcy Kuemper will start in goal Friday against Dallas, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper will start despite giving up four goals and getting pulled in the first period in Wednesday's loss. Niklas Backstrom has a bad track record in Dallas and Kuemper has bounced back from poor outings this season, so the Wild will keep him in goal. Backstrom is likely to start Saturday in the second of back-to-back games.

Wild's Kuemper Expected To Start Wednesday

News: Darcy Kuemper is expected to start Wednesday's game against the Kings.
Analysis: After going with backup Niklas Backstrom on Monday night, coach Mike Yeo will turn the net back over to Darcy Kuemper, who seems to have put his early-November swoon behind him. Since being pulled from a Nov. 13 outing against the Sabres after allowing goals on the first two shots he faced, he's won in three of his four appearances, yielding only five goals during that time.

Wild's Kuemper Pulled Early In Loss

News: Darcy Kuemper was pulled after the first period in Wednesday's loss to the Kings after giving up four goals on ten shots.
Analysis: Niklas Backstrom replaced him and stopped all 12 shots he faced in two periods. Darcy Kuemper didn't get much help from his defense as two goals came on two-on-one opportunities, so he may not see any decrease in playing time from his off night.

Kuemper Leads Wild Onto Ice For Warmups

News: Darcy Kuemper led the Wild onto the ice for pregame warmups and will start in goal Wednesday against the Kings, Helen Elliott of the LA Times reports.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper was fully expected to start this contest after yielding to backup Niklas Backstrom on Monday night. After a red-hot start to the season, Kuemper has slowed down a bit of late, owning just a .912 save percentage in November.

Wild's Kuemper Strong Again

News: Darcy Kuemper made 26 saves in a 2-1 loss to the Lightning on Saturday night.
Analysis: It's his 10th win of the season. His ratios are strong and he's proving his mettle as a starting goaltender. In fact, his GAA entering play Saturday night was fifth-best in the NHL and his save percentage was just outside the top-10. He's worthy of activation whenever he's in the blue paint.

Wild's Kuemper Set To Start Saturday

News: Darcy Kuemper will be between the pipes Saturday against the Lightning, Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper seems to have quieted the whispers about a potential demotion to the minors with an ongoing three-game winning streak, during which he's yielded just three total goals. However, Saturday's road tilt against the prolific Bolts attack will represent a stiff test in the goalie's attempt to extend the streak. Roll with him at your own peril.

Wild's Kuemper Confirmed To Start

News: Darcy Kuemper has been confirmed to start in goal Thursday against the Flyers.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper gave way to Niklas Backstrom for the start Sunday against the Jets, but still managed to earn a victory after stopping all three shots he faced in relief while the Wild offense tallied the go-ahead goal. Ray Emery is expected to receive the start in the opposite net.

Wild's Kuemper Saves 37 In Win

News: Darcy Kuemper picked up his third straight win Thursday, stopping 37 of 39 shots in a 3-2 triumph over the Flyers.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper hit the skids a little there after his white-hot start to the year, but he's righted the ship lately and has returned to being a steady start between the pipes.

Wild Expected To Start Kuemper On Thursday

News: Darcy Kuemper is expected to start in net Thursday against the Flyers, Andy Greder of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper stopped three shots in relief of Niklas Backstrom on Sunday, picking up his eighth win of the season. He will look to go the full 60 on Thursday, with a tough matchup ahead in the Blackhawks. Kuemper will enter the game sporting a 8-5-0 record with a 2.03 GAA and .914 save percentage.

Wild's Kuemper Picks Up Win In Relief

News: Darcy Kuemper stopped all three shots he faced after being inserted in the third period of Sunday's 4-3 overtime win against the Jets.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper didn't have to work particularly hard for his eighth win of the year, as he was on the ice for just over 10 minutes after Niklas Backstrom was pulled in the third period, but it counts just the same. After Backstrom picked up the slack with a win in relief on Thursday, it was Kuemper's turn to let him off the hook on Sunday. With Saturday's win also in his pocket, Kuemper's bounced back nicely after failing to record a save in Thursday's start.

Wild's Kuemper Earns Road Win

News: Darcy Kuemper was solid Saturday, stopping 27 of 28 shots in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Stars.
Analysis: Darcy Kuemper has frustrated owners lately, losing four starts in a row -- including the disaster against Buffalo one game prior in which he was yanked after allowing two goals on two shots. Although Kuemper is resting in favour of Niklas Backstrom on Sunday, Saturday's victory on Dallas' ice should lengthen his leash slightly with coach Mike Yeo. Through 13 appearances this season, Kuemper is sporting a .913 save percentage and 2.06 goals-against average -- good for ninth overall in the league in that category.

Wild's Kuemper Receives Starting Nod Saturday

News: Darcy Kuemper will be between the pipes Saturday against the Stars, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: With the Wild playing back-to-back contests Saturday and Sunday, Darcy Kuemper and Nicklas Backstrom figure to split the starts, with Kuemper leading off. Backstrom's poor career numbers across the Stars likely influenced coach Mike Yeo's decision to go with Kuemper, but the second-year goalie hasn't done much to inspire confidence of late. He's gone winless in his last four starts and was pulled from Thursday's game against the Sabres after allowing goals on the first two shots he faced.

Wild Yank Kuemper After Disastrous Start

News: Darcy Kuemper was pulled just 6:24 into the first period after giving up goals on each of the first two shots he faced Thursday in an eventual win over the Sabres.
Analysis: Nicklas Backstrom delivered strong work in relief and the Wild put up plenty of offense, so Darcy Kuemper at least got off the hook. Nonetheless, it represents his fourth straight winless start, and he's given up 11 goals on just 76 shots (an .855 save percentage) in that span. That considered, the Wild may roll Backstrom out Saturday in Dallas. Josh Harding is nearing a return, too, so if Kuemper doesn't get his game together, he could conceivably find himself in the AHL soon.

Wild's Kuemper To Start Thursday

News: Darcy Kuemper will make the start in goal Thursday against the Sabres, Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: The reeling Darcy Kuemper has lost three in a row, but showed improved performance in Tuesday's defeat to the Devils, yielding two goals on 22 shots. The matchup against the Sabres comes at a great time for Kuemper, who could stand to benefit from preying on a weak opponent to get back in the win column and regain some confidence.

Wild's Kuemper Stops 20 In Loss

News: Darcy Kuemper saved 20 of 22 shots in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Devils.
Analysis: A solid game for Darcy Kuemper, but he got outdueled by Cory Schneider for his third consecutive loss. Kuemper should see better results if he gets the start Thursday, as the Wild draw a home date against the sad-sack Sabres.
