Blues' Paajarvi To Sit Out Tuesday

News: Magnus Paajarvi will not dress Tuesday when the Blues host the Capitals at Scottrade Center, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. He will be a healthy scratch for the second time in five games.
Analysis: After registering just two shots and a minus-2 rating while averaging 11:15 in ice time over the last four games, Magnus Paajarvi will yet again take a seat while Alex Steen draws back in from injury. The 22-year-old Swede has disappointingly mustered just six goals, six assists and 56 shots in 52 games in his fourth NHL season -- his worst to date. That being the case, it's no surprise to see him banished to the press box as the Blues look to end a two-game skid and lock up the West's top seed going into the playoffs.

Blues Paajarvi Back In Lineup Following Benching

News: Magnus Paajarvi was back in the lineup Tuesday against the Flyers after sitting out the previous game as a healthy scratch.
Analysis: Magnus Paajarvi was reunited on a line with Patrik Berglund and Steve Ott, finishing the game with zero points, two hits and a blocked shot. He remains a modest contributor for the Blues this year, with just 12 points in 49 games for the season to date.

Blues' Paajarvi Healthy Scratch Saturday

News: Coach Ken Hitchcock has elected to make Magnus Paajarvi a healthy scratch Saturday when the Blues host the Stars, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: The 22-year-old Swede will be replaced by Chris Porter on the fourth line, as Hitchcock looks to infuse more toughness into the bottom of the Blues' lineup. Although Magnus Paajarvi has skated in all four games since returning from an upper-body injury and in 48 total games this season, he has managed just 12 points and a minus-3 rating on a Blues team that sits third overall in that category. He's got a long way to go to prove he was worth the 10th-overall pick in 2009.

Blues' Paajarvi Ready To Go

News: Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said Friday that Magnus Paajarvi (upper body) looks good and is ready to go.
Analysis: Despite being able to take part in Wednesday's morning skate, Magnus Paajarvi was held out against Chicago, but it sounds like he'll be back Saturday to take on the Flyers. In six games so far this month, Paajarvi has two goals, two assists and a plus-3 rating.

Blues' Paajarvi Out Wednesday

News: Magnus Paajarvi (upper body) will not play Wednesday vs. the Blackhawks, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Though he won't be in Wednesday's lineup, Magnus Paajarvi did take part in the morning skate and appears close to a return. He'll probably increase his involvement in practices over the coming days.

Blues' Paajarvi Could Return Wednesday

News: Magnus Paajarvi (upper body) is considered close to returning to the lineup, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports.
Analysis: Magnus Paajarvi was not on the ice for Monday's morning skate, but he's apparently resumed skating on his own and looks to have avoided a long-term absence. He could be back in the lineup as early as Wednesday against the Blackhawks.

Paajarvi Out Saturday For Blues

News: Magnus Paajarvi has an upper-body injury and will not be available Saturday vs. the Predators, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports.
Analysis: Magnus Paajarvi left practice early after suffering the injury in Thursday's game against Edmonton. Coach Ken Hitchcock will let him rest for a game before reevaluating where Paajarvi is at in his recovery. Brenden Morrow enters the lineup Saturday.

Paajarvi Picks Up His Play For Blues

News: Magnus Paajarvi has seen regular ice time over the last 20 plus games in St. Louis.
Analysis: Magnus Paajarvi started the season as a healthy scratch and when he did play he was a defensive liability. He is the only player on the team with a negative plus/minus rating at minus-5. In the last 23 games though he is at an even 0 plus/minus with two goals and four assists. Don't count on him till next year... maybe.

Paajarvi Seeing Regular Shifts in St. Louis

News: Magnus Paajarvi has seen action in seven of the last nine games for the Blues.
Analysis: With two goals and no assists this year Magnus Paajarvi has yet to produce much in his first season in St. Louis. He is a talented player but he will have difficulty getting more ice time on this talent-laden squad.

Blues' Paajarvi Scores First Goal

News: Magnus Paajarvi scored his first goal of the season -- and his first in a St. Louis jersey -- Tuesday in a win over the Sabres.
Analysis: The Swedish winger had gone scoreless in five games sandwiched around an IR stint this year, and had only taken two shots in that time, so the goal is extra nice to see for the Blues as well as those deep-league fantasy owners gambling on the 22-year-old.

Blues' Paajarvi Returns To Lineup

News: Magnus Paajarvi (upper body) returned to the ice for the Blues in Sunday's game against the Capitals.
Analysis: Magnus Paajarvi had a shot on goal and a blocked shot in 10:22 of ice time for the Blues on Sunday in his return from IR. He should initially work on the fourth line for the Blues and looks to be healthy going forward.

Blues' Paajarvi Progressing Along

News: Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said Wednesday that Magnus Paajarvi (upper body) is making progress in his recovery, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: This news is well and good, but Magnus Paajarvi remains without even a vague timetable for return. He's eligible to come off IR at any time, but sounds like his chances of playing this week are relatively slim.

Blues' Paajarvi Will Skate Friday

News: Magnus Paajarvi (upper body) traveled with the Blues to Florida as expected and will skate Friday, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports.
Analysis: "He's going to just stay here and then we'll evaluate him on Monday to see if he's going to join us in Montreal (for Tuesday's game against the Canadiens)," coach Ken Hitchcock said. It sounds like Magnus Paajarvi will miss both games this weekend, but if all goes well, he could be back early next week.

Blues' Paajarvi Will Travel On Road Trip

News: Magnus Paajarvi (upper body) will travel with the team on its upcoming road trip, which begins Friday in Florida, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Early indications were that Magnus Paajarvi's upper-body injury was "significant," but this news suggests otherwise. While it's no lock that Paajarvi will play on the road trip, it sounds like there's a chance he could.

Blues' Paajarvi Lands On IR

News: Magnus Paajarvi (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.
Analysis: The team is yet to establish a clear timetable for Magnus Paajarvi's return, but early indications were that the injury is "significant." Maxim Lapierre (suspension) will be back soon, but with Brenden Morrow (upper body) also banged up, the Blues may add another winger to fill the vacant roster spot.

Blues' Paajarvi Could Travel With Team Thursday

News: Magnus Paajarvi (upper body) missed Wednesday's practice, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Magnus Paajarvi could potentially make the trip to Florida on Thursday, but we probably won't find out until they're loading up the plane. The winger has played in four games this season and has yet to record his first point.

Blues' Paajarvi To Miss Time

News: Magnus Paajarvi (upper body) will miss Monday's practice and will almost certainly not play Tuesday night, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Magnus Paajarvi played only 3:34 Saturday night because of the injury. "[Paajarvi] got whacked into the boards there," Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said. "He's got a pretty good upper-body injury right now."

Blues' Paajarvi: Upper-Body Injury "Significant"

News: Magnus Paajarvi's injury (upper body) has been called "significant," and will require additional testing, according to CBC's Hockey Night in Canada.
Analysis: His head and shoulder were crushed into the boards on a hard hit in the first period. He hasn't played much this season, but we still hate to hear about significant injuries.

Blues' Paajarvi Exits With Injury Saturday

News: Magnus Paajarvi left Saturday's game with an upper-body injury and will not return.
Analysis: Magnus Paajarvi was a healthy scratch in the Blues' first five games but has now laced up his skates in each of the last four contests. He doesn't have a point this season, and saw just 3:34 of ice time in Saturday's game.

Paajarvi See First Action With Blues

News: Magnus Paajarvi logged eight minutes of ice time in St. Louis' 3-2 shootout win over the Blackhawks.
Analysis: The newly acquired winger saw his first action of the season after missing the first five games as a healthy scratch. In his eight minutes of play he did not manage any stats but this is a move in the right direction. He shouldn't be on your roster but his talent makes him worth keeping him on your radar.

Blues' Paajarvi To Play Thursday

News: Magnus Paajarvi will make his Blues debut Thursday against the Blackhawks.
Analysis: The 22-year-old was a healthy scratch for the team's first five games of the season, but he'll finally get a chance to play Thursday against Chicago. During his three seasons with the Oilers, Magnus Paajarvi put up 26 goals, 32 assists and a minus-21 rating in 163 games.

Blues' Paajarvi Odd Man Out

News: Magnus Paajarvi found himself an extra skater in Thursday's practice, according to Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Analysis: The Blues traded David Perron to acquire Magnus Paajarvi in the offseason, but he's lost his spot on the third line with Patrik Berglund and Vladimir Taresenko. This may be a motivational tactic by coach Ken Hitchcock. Don't be surprised if he finds himself scratched a few times moving forward. He might be a decent waiver-wire pickup later in the year if this move lights a fire under him.

Blues And Paajarvi Agree To Two-Year Deal

News: Magnus Paajarvi agreed to a two-year, $2.4 million contract with the Blues on Friday, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The Blues traded for Magnus Paajarvi, the No. 10 overall pick in 2009, last month, and they were able to come to terms on an extension Friday. The 22-year-old winger put up 16 points (9G, 7A) for the Oilers last season, but Blues coach Ken Hitchcock views Paajarvi as "a player that's just starting to take his career seriously." Paajarvi is expected to skate on a line with Patrik Berglund, with whom he played for Sweden in the 2010-11 World Championships.

Paajarvi Traded To Blues For Perron

News: Magnus Paajarvi has been traded from Edmonton to St. Louis for David Perron, according to TSN.ca.
Analysis: Magnus Paajarvi, drafted 10th overall in 2009, had but 16 points in 42 games last season for Edmonton. While the Swedish native is still just 22, you have to wonder if coach Ken Hitchcock's defensive system in St. Louis is the right place for Paajarvi to flourish offensively.

Paajarvi Gets Qualifying Offer From Oilers

News: Magnus Paajarvi has received a qualifying offer from the Oilers, according to the team website.
Analysis: The 10th overall pick in 2009 has failed to break out thus far, tallying just 16 points in 42 games for the Oil last year, but the potential is clearly there for the talented Swede, still just 22 years old.
