Habs' Tokarski: 23 Saves In Shootout Loss

News: Dustin Tokarski made 23 saves in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Sabres on Saturday night.
Analysis: Not a great night for the otherwise reliable and highly competitive 'tender. At least he pushed the shootout to five rounds and allowed just one goal. He's been very solid earlier in the season, but has now put together two losses with eight goals allowed in those two games. In comparison, he'd allowed just eight goals in five games before that. Keep him stapled to your bench until you see him reduce those goals allowed.

Habs' Tokarski Starting Saturday

News: Dustin Tokarski will start in goal Saturday against the Sabres, Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: The Habs will indeed turn to Dustin Tokarski, as expected, to mind the net in the second of back-to-back games. Tokarski allowed five goals on 34 shots in a loss to the Rangers last Sunday, but he's played well overall, with a 2.37 GAA and .919 save percentage in his six appearances (five starts).

Habs' Tokarski Lit Up In Loss

News: Dustin Tokarski recorded 29 saves, but allowed five goals in Sunday's 5-0 loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: It was by far the worst start of the season for Dustin Tokarski, as he had a 1.79 GAA coming into Sunday's game. He's now 3-2-0 on the season, and other than his most recent outing, he's established himself as a reliable backup. He won't get too many starts behind Carey Price though, which hurts his fantasy value.

Habs' Tokarski To Make Next Start Sunday

News: Dustin Tokarski will be in the net Sunday against the Rangers.
Analysis: With Carey Price getting the nod for the first game of the Habs' weekend back-to-back Saturday versus the Bruins, Dustin Tokarski will enter the crease Sunday for his third start of November. The 25-year-old has been stellar in spot duty this season, posting a 3-1-0 record and .937 save percentage over five outings.

Habs' Tokarski Solid In Win

News: Dustin Tokarski stopped 28 of the 29 shots he faced on Sunday en route to a 4-1 win over the Red Wings.
Analysis: It was another strong performance for Dustin Tokarski to run his record to 3-1-0. He hasn't allowed more than two goals in any of his four starts, though he did allow three in a relief appearance, but with Carey Price holding down the starting job, Tokarski likely won't get too many opportunities between the pipes.

Canadiens' Tokarski Will Be In Net Sunday

News: Dustin Tokarski will start in net Sunday against the Red Wings, Dave Stubbs of the Montreal Gazette Background reports.
Analysis: Dustin Tokarski will be getting his fifth chance in the net this season after Carey Price started Saturday night. During his last time on the ice, Tokarski stopped 31 of 32 shots against the Sabres on Nov. 6.

Habs' Tokarski Expected To Start Sunday

News: Dustin Tokarski is expected to start in net Sunday against the Red Wings, Dave Stubbs of the Montreal Gazette Background reports.
Analysis: Dustin Tokarski has been a solid replacement for Carey Price on his days off, posting a 2-1-0 record with a .929 save percentage and a 2.01 GAA. He will likely get another opportunity in net Sunday, only his fifth chance this season.

Canadiens' Tokarsi Wins In Shootout

News: Dustin Tokarski stopped 31 of 32 shots faced in Wednesday night's 2-1 shootout win over the Sabres.
Analysis: In his three starts, Dustin Tokarski has allowed four goals on 80 shot attempts, giving him a .950 save percentage.

Habs Tab Tokarski For Wednesday Start

News: Dustin Tokarski will be between the pipes Wednesday against the Sabres, Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The Canadiens will turn the net over to Dustin Tokarski after regular starter Carey Price was on the wrong end of Tuesday's shutout loss to the Blackhawks. The Sabres showed signs of life over the weekend in knocking off the Red Wings, but with a league-low 1.08 goals and 20.9 shots per game, Buffalo still represents a cushy matchup for Tokarski.

Habs' Tokarski Lackluster In Loss Monday

News: Dustin Tokarski managed to stop just 16 of 18 shots in a loss to the Oilers on Monday.
Analysis: Dustin Tokarski has now allowed five goals on 36 shots in his last two appearances and hasn't been able to provide quality relief for workhorse starter Carey Price yet this season. Seeing as though he starts very few games and hasn't performed well to date, we'd avoid Tokarski as a spot start in most leagues until he improves his play.

Habs' Tokarski Starting Monday

News: Dustin Tokarski will start between the pipes against the Oilers on Monday, Jack Michaels of the Oilers radio broadcast reports.
Analysis: Dustin Tokarski will take the front end of the team's back-to-back games to start the week, with Carey Price likely to start Tuesday against the Flames. Tokarski has won his only start this season, making 29 saves on 30 shots against the Capitals.

Habs' Tokarski Mediocre In Relief Monday

News: Dustin Tokarski turned aside just 15-of-18 shots in one period of relief of Carey Price in Monday's 7-1 loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: Price was yanked in favour of Dustin Tokarski at the second intermission after allowing four goals, three of which came courtesy of Bolts superstar Steven Stamkos -- who picked up his eighth career hat trick. Despite this being a rough night all around for the Habs, it was disappointing to see Tokarski fare so poorly in his second appearance of the season after he turned in a 29-save, one-goal gem against the Capitals. With that in mind, he's unlikely to get another starting nod until Price needs a rest when the Habs play on back-to-back nights.

Canadiens' Tokarski Saves Canadiens' Bacon

News: Dustin Tokarski stopped 29 of 30 shots to pick up the win in Thursday night's 2-1 shootout victory over Washington.
Analysis: The Capitals buzzed Dustin Tokarski early and often, scoring a first-period goal and out-shooting the visitors, 15-2, at the first intermission. He kept Montreal in the game until Tomas Plekanec provided the third-period equalizer. Small sample size aside, general manager Marc Bergevin was made to look like a genius when he traded Peter Budaj in order to keep Tokarski with the big club.

Habs To Start Tokarski On Thursday

News: Dustin Tokarski will get the starting nod for Thursday's game against the Capitals, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Rather than using Carey Price on back-to-back nights right out of the gate, coach Michel Therrien will give his No. 1 netminder an early-season breather. The starts Dustin Tokarski receives this season will likely be limited primarily to these types of back-to-back scenarios, as Price is expected to shoulder one of the heaviest workloads in the league. While Tokarski could enjoy some usefulness in daily formats when he's announced as the starter on a given night, he's unlikely to provide as much value in shallower season-long leagues.

Canadiens' Tokarski Still In Running

News: Dustin Tokarski is still in the mix to become the backup goalie to Carey Price, the Montreal Gazette reports. He and Peter Budaj are battling for the backup job.
Analysis: Head coach Michel Therrien said the team is still evaluating the two goaltenders heading into the final weekend of the preseason and that "there are a lot of things that come into consideration" when it comes to making a decision like this. One thing to consider is that Dustin Tokarski will have to be exposed to waivers before the Canadiens can assign him to Hamilton of the American Hockey League. A guy like Tokarski, a young goalie with playoff experience and a minimum salary, might be attractive to other teams.

Canadiens' Tokarski Backstops Win

News: Dustin Tokarski saved 27 of 29 shots to earn the win in Friday night's preseason game against Colorado.
Analysis: Dustin Tokarski, who played the entire game, is battling Peter Budaj for the backup job behind Carey Price. It was a good effort from the young goalie, who held up well against a veteran lineup while the Canadiens suited up a roster of players destined for the American Hockey League.

Tokarski Stops 31, But Habs Lose Series

News: Dustin Tokarski allowed just one goal on 32 shots Thursday in Game 6 against the Rangers, but Henrik Lundqvist stopped all the shots on the other end to finish off the series.
Analysis: While Dustin Tokarski ultimately couldn't lead the Canadiens to victory in the absence of Carey Price, he more than held his own in this series, showing why he has a promising NHL future. After this playoff performance, he's got to be considered the odds-on favorite to back up Price next year.

Tokarski, Habs Hold On For Game 5 Win

News: Dustin Tokarski stopped 23 of 27 shots in Tuesday's Game 5 victory over the Rangers.
Analysis: Not a pretty night for the ol' rate stats, and things were not looking good after Dustin Tokarski and the Habs choked away a 4-1 lead in the second period, but the rookie made huge saves in the third after his team gave him the lead. He'll get back at it against the Rangers in Thursday's Game 6.

Canadiens' Tokarski Lets In Three In Loss

News: Dustin Tokarski made 26 saves on 29 shots in an overtime loss to the Rangers in Game 4 on Sunday.
Analysis: Dustin Tokarski made some big saves, but he could not help lead the Habs to another victory. Now, Montreal is one game away elimination, and even with his play thus far it is hard to see Tokarski lifting this team to a comeback.

Tokarski Carries Habs To Game 3 Win

News: Dustin Tokarski made 35 saves on 37 shots Thursday in New York, leading the Canadiens to a crucial Game 3 victory.
Analysis: Though the Rangers didn't force Dustin Tokarski to make a lot of truly great saves, he outplayed Henrik Lundqvist in this one and delivered a key victory to keep the Habs in the series. Peter Budaj had better get comfortable on the bench.

Habs' Tokarski Will Start Game 3

News: Dustin Tokarski will start in net for Game 3 on Thursday, John Lu of TSN reports.
Analysis: Dustin Tokarski played well enough in Game 2 to earn another start, but considering how desperate his team is, head coach Michel Therrien probably won't hesitate to insert the more experienced Peter Budaj if Tokarski struggles.

Canadiens' Tokarski Lets In Three In Loss

News: Dustin Tokarski made 27 saves on 30 shots in a Game 2 loss to the Rangers on Monday.
Analysis: It's only one game, but it seems unlikely that Dustin Tokarski will be able to step in for Carey Price and save Montreal's playoff hopes. Maybe he keeps the job over Peter Budaj, but after losing two home games to start the series, it seems very likely the Habs won't make it out of this round.

Habs' Tokarski Will Start Monday

News: Dustin Tokarski will start in net for Monday's Game 2 against the Rangers, James Mirtle of TSN reports.
Analysis: With starter Carey Price (knee) out for the remainder of the Eastern Conference Finals, Dustin Tokarski will make his career postseason debut with just 10 total NHL games under his belt. He was stellar in three appearances with the Habs in the regular season, allowing just five goals and posting a save percentage of .946.

Canadiens' Tokarski Could Start Monday

News: Dustin Tokarski could start Monday's game against the Rangers with Carey Price (leg) out, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Dustin Tokarski has not appeared in an NHL game since March, but with Price out and Peter Budaj having given up three goals on eight shots in relief of Price on Saturday, the Canadiens could turn to the 24-year-old for a spark.

Habs Sign Tokarski To Two-Year Extension

News: Dustin Tokarski signed a two-year deal with the Canadiens on Saturday, LNH's Arpon Basu reports.
Analysis: Dustin Tokarski is currently on the team's AHL affiliate but has seen time with the big league club. With Peter Budaj and Carey Price both on the roster, it will be difficult for Tokarski to get time with the Canadiens unless there is an injury to either of the other netminders.
