Isles' Sign De Haan For Three Years

News: The Islanders signed Calvin de Haan Tuesday to a three-year $5.9 million contract, according to Newsday.
Analysis: De Haan was a former first-round pick for the Islanders that had trouble staying healthy for any length of time in the AHL. He proved last season with the Isles however that if he can stay in one piece that he can also be a useful part of the team's defense. He will likely once again be a top four defensemen for the club this season.

Isles Give De Haan Qualifying Offer

News: De Haan was given a qualifying offer by the Islanders on Monday, according to Newsday.
Analysis: De Haan was a pleasant surprise for the Islanders last season and will be relied upon even more this year. The Islanders remain weak on the blue line so Calvin de Haan should once again be given a chance to be a top four defenseman for the team.

Isles' De Haan Confirmed Out For Season

News: Coach Jack Capuano confirmed that Calvin de Haan (lower body) as well as the other injured Islanders will not return this season, reports Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: With the Isles having nothing to play for, they'll sit the rookie defenseman -- who collected 16 points in 51 games on the year -- 'til next season's training camp.

Isles' De Haan Likely Out For Season

News: Calvin de Haan (lower body) is unlikely to play again this season, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: Calvin de Haan had a solid rookie campaign for the Islanders with three goals and 16 points in 51 games. He will likely begin next season as a second or third pair defensemen with the team.

Isles' De Haan Will Sit Out Sunday

News: De Haan (lower body) will not play Sunday against the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: De Haan sustained the injury in Saturday's shootout loss to the Capitals, supplying an assist in his 15:05 of ice time before heading to the locker room. The Islanders called up Scott Mayfield from AHL Bridgeport to cover for De Haan's absence Sunday.

Isles De Haan Leaves Game With Upper-Body Injury

News: De Haan left Saturday's game with an upper-body injury, reports the Associated Press. He picked up an assist before he was forced from the game.
Analysis: There's no word on the severity, but it can't be good -- the Isles made a call to Bridgeport to get a blueliner sent up.

Isles' De Haan Pots Goal In Comeback Win

News: De Haan scored his third goal of the season in Monday's 7-4 victory over the Canucks.
Analysis: De Haan's power-play tally was the Isles' third in less than four minutes of action, tying things up at three apiece in the third period. The 22-year-old has three goals and 10 assists in his 41 games as a rookie.

Isle's De Haan Scores Second Of The Year

News: De Haan scored a goal and was a plus-1 in a 4-2 loss to Calgary on Thursday.
Analysis: De Haan played strong all around in his 21:24 of ice time. It's good to see his minutes back up after a reduction in mid-January. He also fired three shots for the third time in the last five games, a nice improvement over a lull for most of January. De Haan has a limited upside, but the rookie is performing near his current ceiling.

More Production For Isles' de Haan

News: De Haan notched an assist -- stretching his point streak to five games -- and added six penalty minutes in Tuesday's loss to Florida.
Analysis: Despite seeing his minutes fall back to 17:13 in this one, Calvin de Haan continued to produce, as he's now tallied all seven of his NHL points in the last five games. One warning sign: He's taken just five shots on goal in that span and hasn't exceeded two shots in a game since Dec. 28, when he took a career-high three.

Islanders' de Haan Notches Two Assists

News: De Haan picked up two helpers and was a plus-2 against the Stars on Sunday.
Analysis: De Haan has really picked up his play. He has six points in his last four games, but those are his only six points not just on the season, but in his NHL career.

Isles' de Haan Scores First NHL Goal

News: De Haan potted the first goal of his NHL career in Tuesday's win over Toronto, and it turned out to be the game-winner.
Analysis: At the time, the goal gave New York a 4-2 lead in what ended up being a 5-3 win. After going without a point in his first 18 NHL contests, Calvin de Haan has three points in the last two games. He's got pedigree as the 12th overall pick in 2009 and was a fairly regular scorer in juniors, but his offensive game hasn't taken off at the pro level yet. Well, not until these last two games.

Islanders' de Haan Gets First Points

News: De Haan picked up two assists, his first points of the season, Monday against the Stars.
Analysis: These are, in fact, the first points of Calvin de Haan's career, as the rookie only has 19 games to his name. He's a former 12th overall pick, but the 22-year-old hasn't shown much at the NHL level just yet.

Isles' De Haan A Healthy Scratch

News: De Haan was a healthy scratch for the Islanders during Friday's 5-0 loss to Detroit, according to Newsday.
Analysis: Head coach Jack Capuano decided that it was best to allow Calvin de Haan to get into a few practices with team before inserting him into the lineup. The Islanders have struggles in recent seasons in how they use their young prospects and with the team falling in the standings on a daily basis it would seem that they would have nothing to lose by seeing what some of their youngsters can do.

Islanders Recall de Haan

News: The Islanders recalled Calvin de Haan from AHL Bridgeport on Thursday, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: De Haan hasn't done much at Bridgeport this season, posting a minus-five rating with one goal and two assists in 17 games, but he'll replace the struggling Matt Donovan on the Islanders' blue line.

Isles' De Haan Sent Down To AHL

News: De Haan was sent down to Bridgeport of the AHL, according to Newsday.
Analysis: De Haan's lack of size may always keep him from being a full-time NHL defensemen. He does possess offensive upside, something the Isles desperately need, but the team just doesn't feel he's ready at this point in time.

De Haan Still Has Outside Chance To Make Islanders

News: De Haan still has an outside chance to make the Islanders, according to NHL.com.
Analysis: The problem for Calvin de Haan is that he is just not built to take a pounding at the NHL level. Why does he still have a chance to make the team? Well, with the trade of Mark Streit, the Islanders don't have anyone they can pair with Lubomir Visnovsky on the power play, and offense is what de Haan does best. That being said, it's highly unlikely that he makes the team.

Isles' de Haan To Miss Rest Of Season With Shoulder Injury

News: De Haan dislocated his left shoulder while playing for AHL Bridgeport on Saturday and will miss the rest of the season, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: It's an unfortunate setback for Calvin de Haan, the Isles' 2009 first-round selection, who was injured in the final minutes of Saturday's game. His development has been hindered by recurring shoulder injuries over the last two seasons, and it looks like those issues have only gotten worse for him.

Isles' de Hann Fully Recovered From Shoulder Injuries

News: Calvin de Haan believes he is fully recovered from the shoulder injuries that have plagued him the past few seasons, according to the Islanders Point Blank.
Analysis: Calvin de Haan is practicing with Bridgeport of the AHL and could begin the season with the Islanders if the lockout ever gets solved. He is one of the few players who might benefit from the lockout as he certainly needs a little more seasoning. That being said, he is not the biggest d-man and seems unlikely to ever be able to stay healthy for any length of time at the NHL level.

Isles' De Haan Injures Shoulder Again

News: De Haan is out four-to-six weeks after injuring his shoulder over the weekend, according to Newsday.
Analysis: This will be the third major injury Calvin de Haan has suffered since turning pro. The Isles gave up multiple draft picks in order to select de Haan in the first round of the 2009 draft. The knock on de Haan has always been his size and whether or not he could take the pounding in the NHL, at this point it doesn't even look like he can take the pounding at the AHL level.

Isles Return de Haan To AHL

News: The Islanders have returned Calvin de Haan to AHL Bridgeport, the team's official Twitter page reports.
Analysis: The 20-year-old just made his NHL debut Thursday but will be going back to Bridgeport. He doesn't have any fantasy value this season, but he has the potential to be a good player in the future.

Isles' De Haan Makes NHL Debut

News: De Haan skated 13:01 in his NHL debut Thursday in a loss to Dallas, finishing plus-1 with two shots on goal and two hits.
Analysis: Yet another of the Isles' parade of former first-round picks, De Haan was a solid point producer in juniors, but hasn't yet carried that over to his professional career, as he had just eight points in 22 games for AHL Bridgeport. However, he's already a slick passer at 20 years old and has a lot of long-term upside.

Islanders Recall de Haan On Emergency Basis

News: The Islanders have recalled Calvin de Haan from AHL Bridgeport on an emergency basis, according to the team's official website.
Analysis: The Islanders' first pick in 2009, Calvin de Haan will get his first taste of life in the NHL. While he totaled just eight points in 22 games with Bridgeport, he averaged nearly a point per game in his four junior seasons. It's not clear how much action de Haan will see initially - and the emergency recall means he will head back to Bridgeport soon - but he'll be a guy to keep an eye on.

Isles' De Haan's Shoulder Injury Not Serious

News: Tests on De Haan's shoulder injury came back negative, according to the Islanders Point Blank.
Analysis: The Islanders traded up to get De Haan in the 1st round of the 2009 draft, figuring he could be the type of puck moving defenseman that any team would love to have, problem is he's not the biggest of fellows and has had an incredibly difficult time staying healthy at the AHL level.

Isles' De Haan Will Have MRI Monday

News: De Haan will have an MRI on his shoulder Monday after being forced from Saturday's Bridgeport Sound Tigers game, the New York Newsday reports.
Analysis: De Haan, the 12th overall pick in 2009, left following a big hit. He has appeared in 14 games for Bridgeport this season and has recorded five points (1G, 4A). The 20-year-old had surgery on his other shoulder two years ago and the extent of this injury is unknown.

Analysis: Sean Backman, Casey Cizikas, Justin DiBenedetto, Brett Gallant, Tomoas Marcinko, Tyler McNeely, Michael Haley, Tony Romano, David Ullstrom, Tim Wallace, Matt Donovan, Anton Klementyev, Aaron Ness, Benn Olson, Ty Wishart, Mikko Koskinen, Anders Nilsson, and Kevin Poulin were the others.
