Stars Ink Eakin To Two-Year Contract

News: Cody Eakin agreed to a two-year contract with the Stars on Monday, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports. The contract is reportedly worth $3.8 million, according to Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: The Blues' recent signing of Jaden Schwartz likely established the framework for Cody Eakin and the Stars to get a deal done, after the two sides had been locked in a stalemate for most of the summer. Eakin will need to catch up on some conditioning work to make up for the time he lost in camp, but he should be ready to settle in as the Stars' third-line center before the regular season commences.

No Contract Yet For Stars' Eakin

News: Cody Eakin hasn't made much progress in reaching agreement on a contract with the Stars, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Both sides will continue to work diligently to come to terms on a new deal before the Oct. 9 opener, but Cody Eakin's ongoing absence from training camp could result in a reduced minutes load in his first few games. The 23-year-old, who finished fourth on the Stars in scoring last season with 35 points in 81 games, will slot in as the team's third-line center once the contract squabble is resolved.

Eakin Still Un-signed In Dallas

News: Cody Eakin, a restricted free agent, is still without a contract in Dallas and Dallas GM Jim Nill said Friday that little progress has been made toward a new deal, according to Mark Stepneski of NHL.com.
Analysis: Cody Eakin figures to get a good role on the Stars third line and a deal is likely to get worked out before opening night, but the time frame is worrisome as far as Eakin getting to camp on time. As Nill points out, Eakin can't play for a few days after a deal is signed because he'll still have to sort out immigration after the deal is put in place. Could be an issue for the team, but a late contract signing isn't likely to effect Eakin's fantasy value.

Stars' Spezza Trade Likely Moves Eakin Down Lineup

News: With the acquisition of center Jason Spezza on Tuesday, Cody Eakins will likely move down the depth chart to third line center.
Analysis: Cody Eakins had a chance of being the second line center in Dallas, but with Spezza in the lineup that chance may have evaporated. This is great news for Dallas, who will have three scoring lines, but it hurts Eakins' fantasy draft value as it will limit his playing time and give him less to work with on wing.

Eakin Gets Qualifying Offer From Stars

News: Cody Eakin received a qualifying offer from the Stars on Monday, making it likely that he'll be returning to Dallas.
Analysis: This is hardly a surprise after Cody Eakin finished tied for fourth on the team in scoring with 16 goals and 19 assists. He also tied for second among Stars in playoff scoring, notching two goals and three assists. Eakin's role for next season remains up in the air, though, as the Stars are seeking a second-line center via free agency or trade. If they fail to land one, the job could be Eakin's, which would be a boon for his fantasy value.

Eakins' Two Points Not Enough As Stars Fall

News: Cody Eakin provided a goal and assist in Sunday's Game 6 loss to the Ducks.
Analysis: Cody Eakins' first-period power-play goal -- his second tally of the series -- gave the Stars an early 2-0 lead, an advantage that would hold up until the final three minutes of the game, with the Ducks mounting a furious rally to send the match to overtime. Eakin finishes the playoffs with two goals and three assists over his six games.

Eakin Has Assist In Dallas Win

News: Cody Eakin had an assist and went plus-1 in 17:49 of ice time in Monday's Game 3 win over Anaheim.
Analysis: Cody Eakin has two assists in the postseason so far. He's getting good ice time, but you can't expect much more than this from the 22-year-old.

Eakin Gets Game-Winner For Dallas

News: Cody Eakin nabbed the game-winner, adding an assist, a plus-2 rating, and three shots in Saturday's win over the Blues.

Stars' Eakin Scores 15th Goal During Win Friday

News: Cody Eakin scored his 15th goal of the season as the Stars beat the Predators 7-3 on Friday.
Analysis: Cody Eakin joined the party just eight seconds after Valeri Nichushkin scored in the third period and became the seventh member of the Stars to find the net during this game. With 15 goals and 17 assists, the second-year center is helping to establish a strong youth movement in Dallas that should be effective for some time.

Eakin Scores In Stars' Win

News: Cody Eakin tallied a goal, two penalty minutes, five shots, and a plus-1 rating in 19:06 of playing time in Saturday's win over Ottawa.
Analysis: Saturday was a good change of pace for Cody Eakin owners, who have been cursing his name at times for inconsistent play. His ice time is a roller coaster, he was a minus-7 in the four games prior to Saturday, he hadn't scored a goal since February 27, and hadn't hit five shots in a game since January 12.

Stars' Eakin Picks Up Assist In Loss

News: Cody Eakin (lower body) returned to the lineup Sunday vs. the Jets, logging an assist and a minus-3 rating in the defeat.
Analysis: Although it was nice to see Cody Eakin register a point Sunday after missing the previous game due to injury, he was one of several Stars players who took a heavy hit to their plus/minus rating in the blowout loss. Eakin has 30 points, 85 hits and 51 blocks through 66 games this season.

Stars' Eakin Expected To Play Sunday

News: Cody Eakin (lower body) is likely to play Sunday against the Jets.
Analysis: Cody Eakin was forced to sit out Friday's tilt after being struck in the foot by a puck during Tuesday's game. Coach Lindy Ruff suggested Saturday that Eakin would likely miss just that one game, and barring a setback during warmups, the 22-year-old should slot back into the rotation against Winnipeg.

Stars' Eakin May Be Ready Sunday

News: Stars coach Lindy Ruff said Saturday that he expects Cody Eakin (lower body) to play in Sunday's game against Winnipeg, the Stars' official website reports. "Eakin, I would anticipate him being ready to play," Ruff said. "We got him out there, he felt pretty good and as a precaution I told him to go off and get an off-ice workout."
Analysis: With Ruff providing an explanation for Cody Eakin's early exit from Saturday's practice, the defenseman now seems likely to play Sunday.

Eakin Skating Again For Dallas

News: Cody Eakin, who missed Friday's game with a lower-body injury, skated Saturday morning, according to Mark Stepneski of NHL.com.
Analysis: While that's a good sign, he didn't stay out for the entire practice, which doesn't bode well for a swift return. The team has not said whether or not they expect him back for Sunday's game against Winnipeg.

Stars' Eakin Officially Out For Friday

News: Cody Eakin (lower body) will not play Friday vs. the Flames, NHL.com's Mark Stepneski reports.
Analysis: No surprise here after Cody Eakin was declared doubtful a day earlier. The newly recalled Travis Morin will take his place in the lineup Friday.

Stars' Eakin Listed As Doubtful For Friday

News: Cody Eakin (lower body) is doubtful to play Friday vs. the Flames, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Cody Eakin was unable to skate at Thursday's practice and looks like he'll at least get an extra day or two to recover from the injury, which was likely sustained in Tuesday's win over the Blues. The Stars will likely call up an extra forward to take Eakin's place in the lineup Friday.

Stars' Eakin Snaps Goal Drought

News: Cody Eakin scored a goal and logged a whopping 20:52 of ice time in Thursday's win over Carolina.
Analysis: That snaps a stretch of seven games without a marker for Cody Eakin, who also saw good time on the power play and penalty kill Thursday.

Stars' Eakin Expected To Play Saturday

News: Cody Eakin (upper body) is expected to play Saturday against the Penguins.
Analysis: A blow to the head from the Maple Leafs' Colton Orr forced Cody Eakin from Thursday's game, but coach Lindy Ruff said the 22-year-old was doing OK on Friday morning. It seems Eakin avoided a concussion, as every indication has been that he will be a go against Pittsburgh.

Stars' Eakin Exits With Injury

News: Cody Eakin left Thursday's game with an upper-body injury after taking a hit to the head from Toronto's Colton Orr, the Dallas Morning News' reports.
Analysis: No definitive update was available after the game, but Stars coach Lindy Ruff said that he thinks Cody Eakin will be okay. The 22-year-old winger notched a goal and an assist during Thursday's 7-1 win over the Maple Leafs, bringing his points total to 26 through 51 games.

Eakin Active In Dallas Loss

News: Cody Eakin grabbed a goal and an assist in Friday's loss to the Rangers, his first goal since December 23.
Analysis: Cody Eakin is still just 22 years old, but he's a talented player on a young Dallas team. With 21 points through 44 games, he's seen some dips in his production, but those in keeper leagues will want to get in on Eakin if they haven't already.

Stars' Eakin Grabs Two Points

News: Cody Eakin scored a goal, added an assist and went plus-2 in Tuesday's win over the Ducks.
Analysis: Cody Eakin's been warming up lately, racking up five points in his last four games. He's been a consistent -- if not particularly prolific -- source of secondary scoring for the Stars all year, and that figures to continue.

Stars' Eakin Assists Twice

News: Cody Eakin picked up two assists -- just his second multi-point game of the year -- in Thursday's loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: The 22-year-old center assisted on both Dallas goals, but it wasn't enough to bring home a win. Though his total of 12 points in 21 games is pretty mediocre, Cody Eakin's managed five of those points in the last six games.

Stars' Eakin Gets Fifth Of Season

News: Cody Eakin's goal Saturday gives him a goal in each of his last two games.
Analysis: He has nine points (five goals, four assists) in 16 games this season. His upside is fine, not great, but his tenacity will earn him a solid role for years to come.

Stars' Eakin Nets Power Play Goal

News: Cody Eakin scored with the man advantage in Tuesday's loss to the Avs. It was his first goal of the season.
Analysis: Cody Eakin's power play time is rather sparse - he entered Tuesday's game averaging just 1:24 per game on the power play, so don't look for this to be a regular occurrence.

Dallas' Eakin Scrimmages As Second Center

News: Cody Eakin skated between Ray Whitney and Valeri Nichushkin in Saturday's scrimmage, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: The line was largely dominated in heads-up competition by Tyler Seguin's line, but this could be an audition of sorts for Cody Eakin as the second line center with Rick Peverley sidelined.
