Season Over For Isles' Strait

News: Coach Jack Capuano said none of the Islanders' injured players -- which includes Brian Strait (hand) -- will return this season, reports Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: Brian Strait, who broke his hand back in mid-March, finishes the year with a minus-14 rating and a career-high (for what it's worth) nine points in 47 games,

Isles' Strait Leaves With An Injury

News: Brian Strait suffered a broken left hand in Tuesday's game vs. the Wild.
Analysis: The Islanders didn't issue a timetable for Brian Strait, but this type of injury would presumably keep him out through the rest of March, if not longer. Strait was only a marginal contributor on the Islanders' blue line with nine points and a minus-13 rating in 46 games, and the team should be able to replace him rather easily with either Radek Martinek, Matt Donovan or Matt Carkner.

Isles' Strait Pointless In Last 10 Games

News: Brian Strait has been held without a point in the 10 games since his two-point outburst Jan. 18 against the Flyers.
Analysis: The lack of offensive output is problematic enough, but his minus-9 during that stretch is probably even more of a back-breaker. It's difficult to justify owning him in almost any format when he's hurting a fantasy team's cumulative stats in addition to not providing any useful counting numbers.

Isles' Strait Has Two Helpers In Return

News: Brian Strait (upper body) gathered two assists in his return to the lineup Thursday vs. the Coyotes.
Analysis: Brian Strait certainly didn't appear to be out of sync with his mates after missing a month and a half due to injury, having a hand in two of the Isles' three scores. The two-point night doubled his production from the other nine games he had played before suffering the injury.

Islanders' Strait To Play Thursday

News: Brian Strait (upper body) will play in Thursday's game against the Coyotes, Newsday's Arthur Staple reports.
Analysis: Brian Strait has been on injured reserve since Oct. 22, but he's set to return after recovering from his injury. Strait will take the roster spot of Radek Martinek, who landed on injured reserve with a back injury.

Isles' Strait Practices With Team

News: Brian Strait (upper body) returned to practice Monday, according to Newsday.
Analysis: The Islanders need all the help they can get on defense and would welcome Brian Strait back but he will need several practices to get back in shape.

Isles' Strait Has No Timetable For Return

News: Brian Strait (upper body) still has no definitive timetable for return, Newsday reports.
Analysis: Brian Strait went on injured reserve retroactive to Oct. 24 with what was thought to be a back-related injury. The Islanders are without two defensemen right now, with Lubomir Visnovsky also out indefinitely with a concussion.

Isles' Strait Placed On IR

News: Brian Strait (upper body) was placed on injured reserve retroactive to Oct. 24 on Monday.
Analysis: Brian Strait has been out of action for an extended period with an upper-body injury and has been unable to skate and practice. With the retroactive placement on IR, he should be eligible to return whenever he is ready. Until then, it clears an extra roster spot for the Isles in the short term.

Isles' Strait Misses Practice

News: Brian Strait (upper body) did not practice Wednesday, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: The Isles don't play again until Friday when they take on the Senators, but Brian Strait's absence from practice isn't promising. The blueliner has one assist in nine games to start the season.

Isles' Strait Will Not Play Friday

News: Brian Strait (upper body) will not play Friday against the Penguins, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: With Brian Strait out of the lineup, the door opens for Radek Martinek to make his season debut. Strait's status for Saturday's game against the Flyers is up in the air.

Isles Activate Strait

News: The Islanders activated Brian Strait (ankle) off IR on Monday.
Analysis: The defenseman hasn't played since breaking his ankle on February 18, but will return just in time to help the Isles make a push for the playoffs. He recorded four assists in 15 games before being injured.

Isles' Strait (Ankle) Skates In Practice

News: Brian Strait (ankle) skated for the first time since February 18 in practice on Friday.
Analysis: Brian Strait sustained a broken ankle on February 18 and was given a six-to-eight week timetable to recover. He is on the early end of that right now but should increase his workload as his ankle improves.

Strait Leaves Isles' Game With Injury

News: Brian Strait (ankle) left Monday's game against the Flyers and did not return.
Analysis: Brian Strait's left ankle will be reevaluated Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury. Strait is expected to miss some time, which will leave the Isles thin along the blue line since Radek Martinek (abdomen) and Matt Carkner (lower body) are already out.

Isles' Strait (Broken Ankle) Placed On IR

News: Brian Strait (broken ankle) was placed on injured reserve Monday, Newsday's Arthur Staple reports. His recovery is expected to take between six-to-eight weeks.
Analysis: Brian Strait went down in the second period of Monday's game against the Flyers, and as the Islanders feared, he suffered a broken left ankle. Considering the six-to-eight week estimated timetable, the injury could end Strait's season. Radek Martinek (groin) was activated from IR, but Thomas Hickey may help fill in Tuesday.

Isles Fear Strait Has Broken Ankle

News: The Islanders fear Brian Strait has a broken left ankle, Newsday reports. "He's going to be out a while," coach Jack Capuano said Monday.
Analysis: The 25-year-old defenseman stumbled feet-first into the boards during the second period of Monday's game, and he was seen using crutches afterward. It sounds like the Islanders think the ankle is broken, and if so, Brian Strait will likely be on the shelf for an extended period. Thomas Hickey, who has been a healthy scratch in the team's last three games, is expected to play some Tuesday against Ottawa, but the Isles may get Radek Martinek (groin) and Matt Carkner (lower body) back before long.

Isles' Strait Sets Up Two

News: Brian Strait doubled his career point total Saturday when he picked up two assists in a 3-2 loss to Buffalo.
Analysis: He's only played in 23 games over three seasons, but 11 have come this year. He's getting his shot on the Island of Misfit Toys. Keep an eye on him -- you never know where you'll get defensive points.

Islanders Agree To Terms With Strait

News: Brian Strait and the Islanders agreed to a three-year deal on Thursday, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: Bit of a curious move here as Brian Strait was signed off the waiver wire just prior to the season. Apparently 0 point, 0 penalty minutes, and six shots on goal is good enough for a three-year extention on Long Island.

Islanders Claim Strait Off Waivers

News: The Islanders claimed Brian Strait off waivers from Pittsburgh on Friday, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.

News: Brian Strait re-signed with the Penguins on Monday, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Brian Strait and the Penguins agreed to a one-year, two-way contract worth about $600,000. The 24-year-old defenseman has played in only 12 NHL games for the Penguins over the last two years, but could fight for a roster spot come training camp.
