Jets' Chiarot Skates, Targeting April 4 Return

News: Ben Chiarot (hand) was able to skate Thursday morning and appears to be nearing a return to the lineup, 680 CJOB Sports reports.
Analysis: Coach Paul Maurice said after the session that while it's possible Ben Chiarot could be available for either Sunday or next Tuesday, the Jets are tentatively targeting the April 4 game versus the Canucks for the blueliner's return. Chiarot, who has been sidelined since Feb. 21 with the injury, could see increased contact work in the coming days as he prepares for a chance to reenter the lineup next week.

Jets' Chiarot Out Six Weeks

News: Ben Chiarot, who underwent surgery on his left hand, is expected to be out for about six weeks, Paul Friesen of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Per coach Paul Maurice, the Jets are hopeful that Ben Chiarot will "be back toward the end of the regular season." The blueliner has recorded two goals and added six assists, with a plus-five rating over 36 games with the Jets to date.

Jets' Chiarot Lands On IR

News: The Jets placed Ben Chiarot (upper body) on IR on Monday.
Analysis: Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun relays that Ben Chiarot, who has notched eight points and 22 PIM in 36 games to date, was spotted sporting a cast and sling on Monday, so it looks like the blueliner is probably set to miss extended time.

Jets' Chiarot Could Miss Extended Time

News: Ben Chiarot was spotted wearing a cast and sling at the Jets' practice facility, indicating he could miss extended time, Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: The origin of Ben Chiarot's injury is a bit unclear, but it likely occurred during Saturday's contest and could be the result of a fight with the Maple Leafs' Daniel Winnik. More information on the blueliner's status is likely forthcoming, which should provide a more concrete timetable.

Jets' Chiarot Gets Assist In Loss

News: Ben Chiarot recorded an assist in Tuesday's loss to the Canucks.
Analysis: Ben Chiarot set up Blake Wheeler's first-period goal to stake the Jets to a short-lived 1-0 lead. The 23-year-old had been holding down a spot on the Jets' top pairing with Dustin Byfuglien upon being recalled from the minors in early December, but he's since seen more of a diminished role with the team getting healthier on the blue line. Chiarot has a goal, six assists, and a plus-5 rating over 28 games this season.

Jets' Chiarot's Game Lifted By Byfuglien

News: Ben Chiarot has, without a doubt, been impressive since being called up from AHL St. John's on Dec. 2. However, the young defender attributes a lot of his success to playing on the Jets' top defensive pairing with Dustin Byfuglien.
Analysis: On Monday, when asked about getting a chance to play with Byfuglien on Winnipeg's top defensive pair, Ben Chiarot said "He's been a real calming influence for me, especially those first few games. And I just try to learn from him, hear what he has to say. We've got a nice chemistry going." While Chiarot is by no means lighting up the score sheet, he is maturing into a solid and reliable defender. However, after scoring his first NHL goal on Saturday against the Maple Leafs, it is clear that Chiarot's confidence is continuing to grow. In the 15 games he's played with the Jets this season, Chiarot has seen more than 20 minutes of ice time in five games and is averaging nearly 19 minutes per game. As Chiarot's confidence, and his chemistry with Byfuglien continue to mature, it's likely he'll begin to round into an offensive contributor, as well as a solid defender.

Jets' Chiarot Nets First NHL Goal

News: Ben Chiarot scored his first NHL goal and added an assist in Saturday's win over the Maple Leafs. He also finished plus-4.
Analysis: He and Dustin Byfuglien form a formidable duo and Ben Chiarot is starting to respond offensively. He's getting lots of ice and the Jets are hurting on the back end -- he could be worth grabbing if he continues to deliver over the next couple games.

Jets' Chiarot To Play On Top Pair

News: Ben Chiarot is expected to open Wednesday's contest against Edmonton on the top defensive pair with Zach Bogosian, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: It is certainly a bit of a surprise that Ben Chiarot will start Tuesday's game on the top defensive pair, and says a lot about the Jets' coaching staff's confidence in the young defenseman. Chiarot's stay in the NHL is expected to be a temporary one, however, if he performs well while Toby Enstrom (lower body) and Grant Clitsome (undisclosed) recover from their injuries, the Jets may have a hard time justifying sending Chiarot back to the AHL.

Jets Recall Chiarot

News: Ben Chiarot was recalled from AHL St. John's on Tuesday, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: The Jets brought Ben Chiarot aboard as an extra defenseman with Tobias Enstrom (lower body) landing on injured reserve. The 23-year-old Chiarot tallied four goals and nine points over 24 games with St. John's, but don't expect him to see much ice time with the Jets.

Jets Send Chiarot To Minors

News: The Jets assigned Ben Chiarot to AHL St. John's, Tim Campbell of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: Ben Chiarot only appeared in one game for Winnipeg last season but had a nice season in the AHL, appearing in 65 games while scoring six goals and 14 assists with a plus-29 rating. Chiarot was competing for a spot on the Jets' final roster in camp so if their defensemen suffer any injuries, Chiarot could see some time with Winnipeg.
