Sabres' Kane Excited For 'Fresh Start'

News: Evander Kane, who had been nagged by a shoulder injury all season before undergoing surgery last week, is looking forward to a fresh start with Buffalo, ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The winger's shoulder woes date back to last year, and he admitted that it's been especially bothersome over the past two months. Evander Kane has also battled injuries to his ankle and hand this season, but was able to compile 22 points in 37 games at sub-optimal health. Though he'll be sidelined for the remainder of the season, Kane should be fully recovered by August and will be motivated to put up career numbers in 2015-16. He's in line to serve as the Sabres' top left wing next year.

Jets Deal Kane To Sabres In Multi-Player Trade

News: Evander Kane (shoulder) was traded to the Sabres on Wednesday in a multi-player deal, TSN's Darren Dreger reports.
Analysis: Evander Kane is out for the season after undergoing shoulder surgery over the past weekend, but with the Sabres not expected to contend for the next few seasons, the winger will provide the team with a foundational piece for their rebuild. Kane leaving Winnipeg was a matter of when, not if, after it was reported that he and the team didn't see eye-to-eye, and a locker room incident with Dustin Byfuglien didn't help. Kane is slated to be the Sabres' top left wing when he returns in the fall. His agent is close to general manager Tim Murray, which certainly helped precipitate the trade. Kane possesses enormous potential, and perhaps a change of scenery for the former fourth overall pick will vault him into superstardom. With Kane unable to help the Sabres' cause this season, it's become quite evident that the Sabres have a good chance to land one of Connor McDavid or Jack Eichel at the 2015 NHL Draft.

Jets' Kane Has Shoulder Surgery Saturday

News: Evander Kane underwent successful shoulder surgery Saturday, Sara Orlesky of TSN reports.
Analysis: As had been reported Friday, Evander Kane will miss the rest of the season following the procedure. With a recovery timetable of four-to-six months, Kane should be ready to go for the start of the 2015-16 season, but it remains to be seen if he'll still be wearing a Winnipeg uniform at that time.

Jets' Kane To Undergo Season-Ending Surgery

News: Coach Paul Maurice confirmed Friday that Evander Kane would undergo shoulder surgery and miss the next four-to-six months, Tim Campbell of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: Evander Kane's season will come to an end as a result, but that doesn't necessarily mean the drama surrounding the 23-year-old will cease. Since Kane had been playing with the bum shoulder since the beginning of the year, it's fair to wonder if Tuesday's locker room incident with teammate Dustin Byfuglien influenced his decision to opt for the surgery now rather than after the season concluded. In any case, the prospect of a long-term injury will likely dry up most of the trade interest in Kane, though some teams could try to deal for the high-upside winger while the asking price remains depressed. Even if a trade fails to materialize prior to the deadline, don't be surprised if the Jets explore moving Kane during the offseason.

Jets' Kane May Need Shoulder Surgery

News: Evander Kane, who was placed on injured reserve Thursday, is dealing with a shoulder ailment that may require surgery, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Analysis: The Jets are expected to make a call on surgery for the winger after team doctors evaluate him over the next few days. Following earlier reports that Evander Kane had been a healthy scratch for Tuesday's loss to the Canucks after failing to show up at Rogers Arena for the game, the organization appears to be entertaining a trade for the enigmatic 23-year-old. While the potential of a long-term shoulder injury would likely cool the interest of most playoff contenders, several rebuilding teams could be still be intrigued enough to snap Kane up at a discount. A change of scenery might be precisely what Kane needs to fully unlock the vast potential that made him the No. 4 overall pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Jets' Kane Placed On IR

News: Evander Kane (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Thursday, with the transaction retroactive to Feb. 2, TSN's Ryan Rishaug reports.
Analysis: Evander Kane's week has been a rather interesting one, as he missed Tuesday's game against the Canucks after failing to report to the arena on time. He was reportedly upset with some of his teammates due to an incident that stemmed from Kane wearing a track suit to a team meeting in which he was supposed to be wearing a suit. The odd sequence of events may have something to do with Kane's placement on injured reserve, but he's also been dealing with an undisclosed injury for much of the season. Trade rumors have been prevalent for the past few years, and such a move would seem to make sense now more than ever. Assuming he stays with Winnipeg, Kane will be eligible to return from IR ahead of Tuesday's game against the Wild.

Jets' Kane Failed To Show Up For Tuesday's Game

News: Evander Kane was made a healthy scratch for Tuesday's loss to the Canucks after he failed to meet the Jets at Rogers Arena for the game, Sportsnet.ca's Chris Johnston reports.
Analysis: Evander Kane's no-show reportedly stemmed from an incident earlier in the day in which he violated team policy by wearing a track suit to the Jets' morning workout. In an attempt to send a message to Kane, teammate Dustin Byfuglien tossed Kane's clothes into the shower following the workout. Kane later informed the Jets via phone about an hour before the game that he would not be reporting to the arena. While it sounds like Kane has since rejoined with the team and reestablished communication with coach Paul Maurice, he missed Thursday's practice to receive treatment for an unspecified injury, which puts his availability for Friday's game against the Blackhawks in question. However, since Tuesday's incident wasn't the first time the 23-year-old's maturity has been called into question, it wouldn't be a surprise if the Jets seriously considered trading Kane before the deadline, even if his injury proves to be only a minor concern.

Jets' Kane Misses Practice With Existing Injury

News: Coach Paul Maurice confirmed that Evander Kane missed Thursday's practice due to an existing injury he's been nursing all season, Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: Evander Kane was banished to the press box for Tuesday's game in his hometown of Vancouver due to a violation of team rules, but his health now seems to be the greater concern for fantasy owners rather than any further disciplinary actions. The winger has elected to bypass surgery on the nagging injury to this time, but it may have reached the point where the pain was too much to bear. He was reevaluated by team physicians Thursday, and the results of that examination are expected to be revealed Friday. It may be worthwhile to prepare for a potential long-term absence for Kane, who has tallied 10 goals and 12 assists over 37 games this season.

Jets' Kane Absent From Practice

News: Evander Kane was absent from Thursday's practice, Ed Tait of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: Evander Kane was scratched for Tuesday's game in Vancouver after violating a team rule, so his absence from Thursday's practice might suggest that he was placed under some sort of team-imposed suspension. There's also been speculation that Kane might be dealing with an undisclosed injury, according to Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press. For the moment, the Jets have declined to discuss much regarding Kane's situation, putting his status in question for Friday's game against the Blackhawks. Even if Kane's absence does prove to be injury-related, it's clear the enigmatic winger seems to be grating on the organization. It wouldn't be a surprise if a trade is engineered prior to the deadline.

Jets' Kane Scratched After Breaking Team Rule

News: Evander Kane was a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game against the Canucks because he violated the Jets' team dress code, Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: Evander Kane reportedly arrived at Winnipeg's rink for a midday team meeting in sweats rather than a suit. As a result, he was a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game against Vancouver. Tuesday marked the second time Jets coach Paul Maurice has made Kane a healthy scratch for disciplinary reasons. If Kane can accept that he made a mistake and is willing to move on, he'll likely be back in Winnipeg's lineup when they take on Chicago on Friday. However, it has long been rumored that Kane wants out of Winnipeg. If Kane is upset, he could very well elect to end his season prematurely in order to have surgery on an undisclosed injury he's been playing through for much of the season. If Kane does decide to shut it down for the year, it's hard to imagine a scenario in which the Jets' don't try to trade the talented 23-year-old winger prior to the team's 2015-2016 campaign.

Jets' Kane To Be Healthy Scratch Tuesday

News: Evander Kane will be a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game against the Canucks, Jon Abbott of TSN 1040 Radio reports.
Analysis: It's a stern message from coach Paul Maurice, as Evander Kane was undoubtedly looking forward to playing in front of his hometown crowd in Vancouver. Instead, it appears Kane's sloppy play that has yielded a minus-7 rating over the past three games will earn him a trip to the press box, as the Jets decide to keep seven defensemen active. Kane's demotion isn't expected to last more than a game, but it certainly isn't a positive sign for the talented winger.

Kane Propels Jets' Offense In Loss

News: Evander Kane assisted on all three Winnipeg goals in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Penguins.
Analysis: Can't pin this one on Evander Kane, who also went plus-2 on the evening. He continues his post-injury surge, having racked up seven points in eight games after missing time with a lower-body ailment.

Jets' Kane Heating Up

News: Evander Kane has been hot since returning to action on Jan. 10, netting three goals in his last four games alone.
Analysis: Evander Kane carried a three-game goal-scoring streak into Friday's contest against the Blackhawks. Although Kane wasn't able to extend the streak to four games, his recent production is certainly promising, and his stock appears to be on the rise. If Kane continues to produce offensively, he may make a push for increased ice time going forward.

Jets' Kane Playing Well Through Pain

News: Evander Kane potted a goal, attempted four shots and picked up two PIM in Tuesday's 8-2 win over the Panthers.
Analysis: Though Evander Kane acknowledged earlier in the day Tuesday that he's not 100 percent recovered from the lower-body injury that sidelined him for about two weeks, it hasn't shown in his play. In his three games since returning to action, Kane has notched two goals, 13 shot attempts, six PIM and 10 hits. Even while he remains relegated to a third-line role, Kane still offers plenty of all-around value in mid-sized or deeper leagues.

Jets' Kane Not Fully Healthy

News: Though Evander Kane was able to suit up for both of the Jets' games over the weekend, he acknowledged that he isn't 100 percent healthy yet, Paul Friesen of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: After sustaining a lower-body injury in late December, Evander Kane was projected to be out until February, but ended up returning to action three weeks ahead of schedule. With that in mind, it's no surprise that he's not feeling completely recovered from the injury, but it hasn't appeared to be too limiting thus far. Over his two games since returning, he's potted a goal while attempting nine shots. He'll continue to play regularly despite his less-than-optimal health.

Jets' Kane Scores, Picks Up Four Pim In Loss

News: Evander Kane scored his seventh goal of the season and collected four PIM in Sunday's loss to the Ducks.
Analysis: Evander Kane has a goal and nine shots on goal in two games since returning from a lower-body injury. The 23-year-old now has seven goals and 16 points in 28 games on the season, to go with 50 PIM. While he's currently skating on the third line, it won't be long before he's back in the Winnipeg's top-six. He'll play a key role for the surging Jets, as they look to make a second-half playoff push. While he isn't having the best season, he's looked good since returning from injury, so if he keeps it up, Kane is definitely worth a look.

Jets' Kane (Lower Body) Will Play Saturday

News: Coach Paul Maurice confirmed that Evander Kane (lower body) would be activated from injured reserve and suit up Saturday against the Kings, Ed Tait of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: The Jets initially projected Evander Kane to be sidelined through the end of the month, but he'll beat that return timetable by three weeks. He was a full participant during the Jets' morning session Saturday, skating alongside Adam Lowry and Matt Halischuk on the third line. The winger's return should give the Jets a needed offensive boost in their bottom six.

Jets' Kane (Lower Body) Could Play Saturday

News: Evander Kane (lower body) could be back in the lineup Saturday against the Kings, Shane Hnidy of TSN reports.
Analysis: Though he remains listed on injured reserve, Evander Kane took rushes with the third line during the Jets' morning skate, suggesting an activation might be on the way. The winger had hoped to return at some point during the the ongoing four-game road trip, so a return to action Saturday wouldn't qualify as a major surprise. The Jets look to be closing in on getting their roster back to full strength, as injured blueliners Toby Enstrom and Mark Stuart were also able to skate Saturday.

Jets' Kane (Lower Body) Hoping To Play On Trip

News: Evander Kane (lower body) said Wednesday that he hopes to be available at some point during the Jets' four-game road trip that begins Thursday, Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: It's quite the change in fortune for Evander Kane, who wasn't expected to be back until early February. The road trip will come to an end Jan. 13 against the Panthers, so if Kane is able to return by that point, he'd beat his recovery timetable by more than two weeks. Kane provided optimism for an early return by taking to the ice in a non-contact jersey at Wednesday's practice, and apparently fared well enough for the Jets to feel comfortable bringing him along on the trip.

Jets' Kane (Lower Body) Skates Wednesday

News: Evander Kane (lower body) was on the ice for Wednesday's practice, Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: Evander Kane was wearing a no-contact jersey and should continue to do so for the next week or longer, as he's not expected to return to action until February. Mathieu Perreault has assumed Kane's spot on the second line in the interim.

Jets Place Kane (Lower Body) On Injured Reserve

News: Evander Kane (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Monday.
Analysis: Evander Kane was already ruled out until February, so the move to injured reserve was just to open up a roster spot so the Jets could recall Keaton Ellerby. The move shouldn't adjust Kane's timetable, which is currently set for some point in February.

Jets' Kane Out Until February

News: Evander Kane (lower body) will be out until February, Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: Evander Kane was considered questionable heading into Monday's game versus the Wild after blocking a shot over the weekend, but his injury was evidently more serious than the Jets had anticipated. He'll be replaced by T.J. Galiardi for Monday, and likely for the foreseeable future. Kane has six goals and nine assists in 26 games so far, but will need to wait until February to add to those totals.

Jets' Kane (Lower Body) Questionable Monday

News: Evander Kane is questionable for Monday's game against the Wild with a lower-body injury, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Evander Kane's injury likely originated in Saturday's game against the Wild in which he collected two assists and five shots on goal. He should receive an update prior to the opening faceoff, but if he can't go, his next chance to return would be Wednesday against the Islanders.

Jets' Kane Adds Two Helpers Saturday

News: Evander Kane grabbed two assists while firing five shots on goal and skated to a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 4-3 OT win over the Wild.
Analysis: Both of Evander Kane's helpers came in the third period and gave the Jets a temporary lead each time, with the second apple on Blake Wheeler's shorthanded goal being particularly impressive. Despite having underwhelmingly recorded just six goals and 15 points this season, Kane has quietly racked up five points over his last six games and has generally maintained his value by way of PIM (46) when he hasn't been scoring.

Jets' Kane Chips In Two Points

News: Evander Kane scored on a power play and added an even-strength assist Tuesday in a 5-1 win over Buffalo.
Analysis: He'd gone three straight without registering on the scoresheet, hitting a particularly low low Saturday, when he didn't put a shot on goal and went minus-3 in a loss to Anaheim, but Evander Kane and the Jets bounced back nicely in this one. However, his offensive output remains disappointing -- the No. 4 pick from 2009's draft has only 12 points in 22 games, a pace that lags well behind his production from the last few seasons, and he's had trouble staying healthy too.
