Devils' Gelinas Sprains Ankle In Minors

News: Eric Gelinas sprained his ankle in AHL Albany's season-edning loss Friday to St. John's, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: GM Lou Lamoriello indicated that Eric Gelinas sustained no structural damage to his ankle as a result of the injury, likely meaning he'll be back to full health by the time training camp for the 2014-15 season begins. Gelinas proved to be something of a fantasy asset from the blue line during his 60 games with the Devils, charting seven goals and 22 assists.

Devils' Gelinas Sent To AHL

News: Eric Gelinas was reassigned to AHL Albany on Saturday, the Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: The 22-year-old's playing time has been all over the map this season, especially in recent weeks, but he's put together a decent rookie campaign overall (seven goals, 22 assists in 60 games). Eric Gelinas will finish out the year in Albany, but figures to be a regular part of the rotation next season.

Devils Scratch Gelinas On Friday

News: Eric Gelinas is not in the lineup Friday against the Islanders, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Eric Gelinas has shown a deft scoring touch (29 points in 60 games) as a rookie blueliner, but his inconsistent ice time has made him a bit of a risk to be scratched on any given night. He'll likely settle into a more secure full-time role next season.

Devils' Gelinas Out Thursday

News: Eric Gelinas will be absent from Thursday's lineup for unspecified reasons, Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Eric Gelinas is likely just a health scratch, as he has been on multiple occasions this season. He logged just 4:44 of ice time in Saturday's game, then logged 13:09 on Monday. Productive from a scoring perspective, Gelinas hasn't made a strong impression on coach Pete DeBoer with his work on the defensive end.

Gelinas Shuffled In Devils' Win

News: Eric Gelinas notched a power-play assist on New Jersey's first goal in its 2-1 win over Washington on Friday. He did see some time at wing due to injuries the Devils sustained during the game.
Analysis: Eric Gelinas seems to have booked a spot in the lineup the season's final week, but who knows with how New Jersey coach Peter DeBoer shuffles around the lineup. The Devils could be without the likes of Patrik Elias and Gelinas could be used at forward. He'll still play the point on the power play, but his minutes on the blue line could shrink.

Devils' Gelinas Back On Blue Line For Now

News: Eric Gelinas played 15:20 on the blue line in Thursday's loss to Phoenix and will play on defense again Saturday, the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti reports. He had 3:29 of power-play time in Thursday's loss.
Analysis: Eric Gelinas had seen some time at forward in Sunday's win over Toronto but has been in and out of the lineup since the Olympic break while the team wants to see him shore up play in his own zone. His offensive ability is unquestioned as he has 27 points in 54 games, although much of it came prior to the Olympic break. The injuries to both Bryce Salvador and Anton Volchenkov essentially forced the Devils to put Gelinas back at his natural position, but he should see plenty of power-play time in Saturday's game against the Islanders.

Devils' Gelinas Could See More Time At Forward

News: Eric Gelinas could see most of his time at forward over the final few regular season games, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Eric Gelinas was used as a "rover" in his return to the lineup Sunday against the Leafs, with more than half of his 10 shifts coming at forward while only one came on defense. Coach Pete DeBoer has made it no secret that he prefers the defensive work of veteran blueliners such as a Peter Harrold, while Gelinas's skating and shooting skills would offer much utility on the offensive end. More shifts at forward would probably limit his average ice time, but could result in more scoring opportunities.

Gelinas Out Saturday For Devils

News: Eric Gelinas will be a healthy scratch for Saturday's game against the Rangers, according to the Newark Star-Ledger's Rich Chere.
Analysis: Eric Gelinas played as a seventh defensemen in Thursday's overtime win against Minnesota, but played just 7:48 in the game with 5:34 coming on the power play. Gelinas has 27 points in 52 games but has a rather tenuous spot in the team's lineup as he has not proven to be the most reliable of players in his own zone.

New Jersey's Gelinas Sees Scant Ice Time

News: Eric Gelinas, who skated on the fourth pairing in Thursday's morning skate, did play in the overtime win against Minnesota, seeing 7:48 of ice time -- 5:34 of that on the power play.
Analysis: Eric Gelinas appears to be back in the seventh defensemen role that he occupied prior to the Olympic break -- a role that didn't afford him much of a regular spot in the lineup. The young blueliner has produced when he's seen limited ice time, but his numbers will be dependent on the power-play time New Jersey sees. He had three shots in the game and was active in the offensive zone when he was on the ice. Despite having 27 points in 52 games, Gelinas can not be counted on at this point of the season due to his tenuous spot in the lineup.

Devils' Gelinas A Likely Scratch Thursday

News: Eric Gelinas was on the fourth pairing at morning skate and looks like he'll be a healthy scratch Thursday against the Wild, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: With 27 points in 51 games, Eric Gelinas offers about as much offensive punch as any New Jersey defenseman, but his work on the blue line leaves a lot to be desired. His constant flitting in and out of the lineup makes him a difficult player to own in weekly formats, but he typically makes for good use in daily formats when it's been confirmed that he'll be in the lineup on a given night.

New Jersey's Gelinas To Play Tuesday

News: Eric Gelinas will play against Boston on Tuesday after being a healthy scratch for the last three games, The Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: Eric Gelinas had four points in three games following the Olympic break, but was taken out of the lineup for lapses in his defensive zone play. Look for him to see some power-play time Tuesday, and therefore some value in daily leagues, but he has an unbelievably short leash and very well could be out of the lineup soon.

Gelinas Out Again Friday For Devils

News: The Devils will plan on using the same lineup Friday against Florida that they used Tuesday in a win over Philadelphia when Eric Gelinas was a healthy scratch.
Analysis: Eric Gelinas had points in several games after the Olympics, but has struggled defensively at times. Until he shores up his play in his own end, he's going to see some games from the press box despite his offensive production (with 26 points in 50 games). There is no word yet on Gelinas' status for Saturday's tilt with Tampa Bay.

Devils' Gelinas Out Tuesday

News: Eric Gelinas will be a healthy scratch Tuesday vs. the Flyers, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Eric Gelinas has established himself as one of the better fantasy contributors among rookie blueliners, but his work defensively remains a little shoddy. Coach Pete DeBoer will lean on Anton Volchenkov to join Jon Merrill on the third pairing Tuesday, but it shouldn't be too long before Gelinas gets back in the lineup.

Devils' Gelinas Could Sit Tuesday

News: Eric Gelinas practiced with the team's extra defensive pair on Monday with Anton Volchenkov skating alongside Bryce Salvador, the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti reports. Gelinas could be out of the lineup Tuesday against Philadelphia.
Analysis: Eric Gelinas has no points in three games and saw his ice time drop from 20:34 in Friday's loss to Detroit to 10:34 in Saturday's win over Carolina. He's a plus-3 over that span, but the Devils have allowed an uncharacteristic 11 goals over their last two games. Of that 10:34 Gelinas played on Saturday, just 36 seconds were on the power play, which could mean a limited role going forward. If you have other options on Tuesday, given the heavy slate of games, consider using them.

Devils' Gelinas: Two Points Saturday

News: Eric Gelinas netted a goal and added an assist in Saturday's 6-1 win over the Islanders.
Analysis: Eric Gelinas has shuttled between AHL Albany and the parent club on multiple occasions this season, but it's done little to disrupt his rhythm as a scorer. He's already cemented himself as one of the top-scoring blueliners on a per-game basis with 25 points in 46 games.

Devils Recall Gelinas

News: Eric Gelinas was recalled by the Devils on Monday, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: The 22-year-old spent the Olympic break with AHL Albany in an effort to gain further seasoning. Eric Gelinas has flashed his scoring talent over 44 games with the Devils, totaling six goals and 16 assists. Assuming he gets regular ice time with the parent club, he's worthy of owning in most fantasy formats.

Devils' Gelinas Sent To AHL

News: Eric Gelinas was reassigned to AHL Albany on Friday, Dan Rosen of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: The 22-year-old has been quiet since his one-goal, two-assist game on Jan. 21, with a minus-4 rating in his last four games. He'll remain with Albany for the time being, with Mike Sislo recalled to take his place on the active roster, but Eric Gelinas figures to get another chance with the NHL club sooner rather than later. Defensively, he had begun to hurt the club and a trip to the AHL was coming for him and the minor leagues with the Olympic break looming, he just went down sooner.

Three-Point Night For Devils' Gelinas

News: Eric Gelinas scored a goal, handed out two assists -- one on the power play -- and went plus-2 in Tuesday's win over St. Louis.
Analysis: He may have only seen 14:44 of ice time, but Eric Gelinas certainly made the most of it, as he has been of late. The 22-year-old's got six points in his last five games.

Devils' Gelinas Seeing Ice Time Rise

News: Eric Gelinas played 15:59 in Thursday's loss to Colorado, just the second time in five games he's played more than nine minutes. He saw time in overtime and on the power play, and had a secondary assist taken away on New Jersey's only goal after a review credited the goal to another player.
Analysis: Had the assist stood, Eric Gelinas would have a point in each of the last three games. The Devils dressed six defensemen Thursday, thus ensuring Gelinas more minutes than he'd typically been seeing since his AHL call-up. He'd mostly been used on the power play. Despite a lack of even-strength ice time, Gelinas's power-play usage makes him a defenseman of interest in deeper formats.

Devils' Gelinas Tallies On Power Play

News: Eric Gelinas scored on a second-period power play, but skated just 8:08 in Tuesday's win over the Habs.
Analysis: The Devils went back to seven defensemen in this one, so there weren't a lot of minutes to go around, and Eric Gelinas again saw the fewest among blueliners. Despite notching a point for the second straight game, Gelinas played less than 10 minutes for the third time in his last four outings.

Devils' Gelinas To See Larger Role Sunday

News: With the news that John Merrill will be a healthy scratch Sunday, the Devils are going back to dressing six defensemen, the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti reports. Eric Gelinas should see regular minutes Sunday.
Analysis: Eric Gelinas had seen under 10 minutes of ice time in each of the last two games after a brief demotion to the AHL. Gelinas should see plenty of power-play time Sunday and any other time he is the lineup as one of the team's regular defensemen. Monitor his tenuous roster spot carefully.

Devils' Gelinas Seeing Scant Ice Time

News: Eric Gelinas has seen little ice time in the two games since he's been recalled from Albany (AHL), most of his time being limited to the power play while the Devils dress seven defensemen.
Analysis: Eric Gelinas played 5:20 in Saturday's win over Florida and 8:49 the game before that, against Dallas. He's played over two minutes in both of those contests on the power play, but he's the team's extra defensemen at this point, as they are dressing seven blue liners. Gelinas is not seeing regular minutes and can not be relied upon for production.

Devils Recall Gelinas

News: Eric Gelinas was recalled from AHL Albany by the Devils on Monday.
Analysis: Eric Gelinas will make his return to the Devils after a brief assignment to the AHL. He has played 33 games for the Devils this season, totaling 16 points on four goals and 12 assists. With Patrik Elias only needing a few more days to return from injury, Gelinas could be in for another brief stay in New Jersey as an extra skater.

Devils' Gelinas Headed To AHL

News: Eric Gelinas will be sent down to Albany (AHL) on Saturday with the return of Anton Volchenkov (soreness) to the Devils' lineup, according to the Newark Star-Ledger's Rich Chere.
Analysis: This is a bit surprising for the Devils considering how much Eric Gelinas has contributed offensively, with 16 points in 33 games, although he'd been quiet of late. Devils coach Peter DeBoer feels Gelinas could improve defensively noting that his play in the defensive zone "had slipped." Gelinas shouldn't spend too much time in Albany, but this is a roster move dictated by contracts, as Gelinas can return to Albany without waivers while the team welcomes back injured, albeit less effective players, on the blue line.

Devils' Gelinas Back On Scoresheet

News: Eric Gelinas grabbed his first point in seven games with an assist in Friday's loss to Chicago.
Analysis: Eric Gelinas had gone cold for a few weeks but remains a solid source of power-play points in deeper leagues, as 10 of his season's 16 have come on the man-advantage. Gelinas is a rookie and prone to ebbs and flows, but he has more value in keeper leagues. However, he should not be entirely discounted in single-season leagues.
