Panthers' Gilroy Signs With KHL Club

News: Matt Gilroy has signed with Atlant Moscow Oblast of the KHL, Mike McMahon of College Hockey News reports.
Analysis: A Hobey Baker winner with Boston University in 2009, Matt Gilroy has seen his career wash out at the NHL level, as he notched just 16 appearances with the Panthers last season, his fifth as a professional. With interest in the 29-year-old from NHL clubs likely to be tepid during free agency, Gilroy decided to take his game to Russia.

News: Matt Gilroy has been sent down to AHL San Antonio.

Panthers' Gilroy Lands On IR

News: The Panthers placed Matt Gilroy on injured reserve Monday with a lower body injury, Harve Fialkov of the Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: The nature of Matt Gilroy's injury is unclear, but it will keep him sidelined at least a week. Dylan Olsen will likely step into a top-six role in Gilroy's absence.

Panthers' Gilroy To Play First Game

News: Matt Gilroy will be in the lineup Friday night for his first game of the season as the Penguins visit Sunrise, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Matt Gilroy will take the spot of healthy scratch Ryan Whitney and should see time on the Panthers' third defensive pair.

Panthers: Gilroy Healthy Scratch

News: Matt Gilroy will be a healthy scratch Thursday as the Panthers open the season in Dallas, Harvey Fialkov of the Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: The former Hobey Baker winner was brought in this off-season on a two-way deal in order to provide depth for the Panthers. With the recent additions of Ryan Whitney and Tom Gilbert, Matt Gilroy is clearly the Panthers' seventh defenseman and will likely be sent down to AHL San Antonio once Ed Jovanovski returns to full health.

Gilroy Agrees To Deal With Panthers

News: Matt Gilroy has agreed to a one-year, two-way deal with the Panthers.
Analysis: Matt Gilroy spent the majority of last season with AHL Connecticut, but did appear in 15 games for the Rangers, where he registered a minus-3 rating and scored no points. He'll bolster the Panthers' blue line that has seen Tyson Strachan and Filip Kuba depart.

Rangers' Gilroy Out Thursday

News: Matt Gilroy (flu)) will not play Thursday against the Lightning.
Analysis: With the return of fellow blueliners Michael Del Zotto and Ryan McDonagh, the Rangers are equipped to handle the absence of Matt Gilroy on Thursday. With zero points, zero PIMs and a minus-3 rating to date, Gilroy is off the fantasy radar.

Quiet Season Debut For Rangers' Gilroy

News: Matt Gilroy skated 10:26 in his season debut with the Rangers on Thursday, recording no shots, points or penalties.
Analysis: Well, he did get credit for one hit. Originally signed by the Rangers out of Boston University in 2009, Matt Gilroy made his return to the blue sweater after stops in Ottawa and Tampa Bay.

Rangers' Gilroy Back In The Lineup

News: Matt Gilroy will play third line defense against the Penguins Thursday night, Newsday's Steve Zipay tweets. Gilroy has five points (two goals, three assists) in 13 career games versus Pittsburgh.
Analysis: With the recent inuries to Chris Kreider (ankle) and Ryan Callahan (shoulder), and Stu Bickel moving from defense to forward, Matt Gilroy will fill in Thursday. Gilroy has 15 points (six goals, nine assists) and is a minus-16 through 34 games with the Connecticut Whale of the AHL.

Rangers' Gilroy Scratched Saturday

News: Matt Gilroy will not play Saturday, ESPN New York's Katie Strang reports.
Analysis: Matt Gilroy is not thought to be injured, so it appears that he's a healthy scratch. He'll provide the Rangers with some depth and experience, but probably won't see enough ice time to have fantasy value in most leagues if the team stays healthy.

Rangers Agree To Terms With Gilroy

News: Matt Gilroy has agreed to terms with the Rangers.

Rangers Officially Sign Gilroy To AHL Contract

News: Matt Gilroy has officially signed an AHL contract with the Connecticut Whale, the Bergen Record's Andrew Gross reports.
Analysis: Though Matt Gilroy will start the year with the Rangers' AHL affiliate, he may get the call to the NHL at some point during the season. The 28-year-old defenseman posted 20 points (3G, 17A) and a plus-2 ratio in 67 NHL games last season.

Sens' Gilroy Signs With AHL Whales

Sens' Gilroy Will Play Monday

News: Matt Gilroy will be active for Game 3 against the Rangers, Ottawa Citizen writer Allen Panzeri reports.
Analysis: With Matt Carkner serving a one-game suspension Matt Gilroy will get some additional ice time. However, it's tough to expect any significant fantasy value from him.

Gilroy Debuts In Senators' Win

News: Matt Gilroy played 14:54 in Tuesday's win over Boston, his first game with Ottawa following his trade from Tampa Bay on Monday.
Analysis: Matt Gilroy saw 1:07 of power-play time in the victory, but considering Ottawa has Erik Karlsson and Sergei Gonchar, Gilroy won't see as many offensive chances, not that he was making good on them in Tampa Bay, with 17 points through 53 games. Gilroy's worth a look in deep leagues, as Ottawa didn't acquire him to sit him on the bench, just don't expect big numbers.

Gilroy Traded From Tampa To Ottawa

News: The Lightning traded Matt Gilroy to Ottawa for defenseman Brian Lee on Monday, according to the Ottawa Sun's Bruce Garrioch.
Analysis: The former Hobey Baker winner has 17 points and a plus-2 rating in 53 games. He'll likely slide into Lee's vacated slot as the sixth or seventh guy on Ottawa's blue line.

Bolts' Gilroy Gets Goal

News: Matt Gilroy notched his second goal of the season in Tampa's win over the Devils on Sunday.
Analysis: He's a wonderfully smooth skater but he's only an occasional offensive contributor. He has established a new career high in points (17) but is only on pace for about 23 points. You can do better elsewhere.

Lightning's Gilroy Returns From Hand Injury

News: Matt Gilroy (hand) was back on the ice Thursday after missing the previous two games with a hand injury, the Associated Press reports. Gilroy was on the ice for 18:51 and went a minus-2 for the game.
Analysis: The Lightning's decision to hold out Pavel Kubina while trying to trade him served as a nice pretext to get Matt Gilroy back on the ice.

Lightning's Gilroy Out Tuesday

Lightning's Gilroy Out Sunday

News: Matt Gilroy (upper body) will not play Sunday against Pittsburgh, the team's official Twitter page reports.
Analysis: Adam Hall will step into the lineup to replace the injured Matt Gilroy. He went down during Saturday's game against Buffalo, and the severity of the injury is unknown. If you've been using him in deeper leagues, bench him for the time being.

Bolts Lose Gilroy To Upper-Body Injury

News: Matt Gilroy left Saturday's game in the second period after suffering an upper-body injury, reports the Associated Press. He did not return.
Analysis: Matt Gilroy hasn't been a fantasy factor this season -- his 15 points with nothing on the PP have him on the wire in most leagues. But he has provided a puck-moving ability that is woefully absent on the league's worst blue line.

Bolts' Gilroy Finally Heating Up

News: Matt Gilroy picked up two assists in Tuesday's win over Boston. He has three points in his last two games.
Analysis: He has 14 points on the season, eight of which have come in his last 12 games. None of those points have come on the power play but that production is decent if you need help on the blue line.

Bolts' Gilroy Scores First Goal Of Season

News: Matt Gilroy scored his first goal of the season in Sunday's loss to Pittsburgh.
Analysis: It took him 38 games to get it but it's his 12th point of the season, one better than he notched in 58 games last season. His fantasy value is limited to the deepest of formats.
