Preds' Stalberg Scores Friday

News: Viktor Stalberg scored his eighth goal of the season during the Predators' 6-5 win over the Flames on Friday.
Analysis: The goal was Viktor Stalberg's first in 11 games and the 25-year-old wing has just eight goals and nine assists over 59 games this year. He's played a little stronger over his last three games after a major reduction of ice time seemed to get the team's point across to him that his minus-15 rating wasn't going to be tolerated for much longer.

Preds' Stalberg Demoted To Third Line

News: Viktor Stalberg skated just 9:57 during Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Sabres. He played mostly on the Preds' third line alongside Rich Clune and Paul Gaustad.
Analysis: It's pretty much official at this point - with just 16 points in 55 games, Viktor Stalberg has been a complete bust his first year in Nashville. With three years remaining on his contract at $3 million per, he will be a tough commodity for the Preds to move if they want to rid themselves of his services. Needless to say, both the team and fantasy owners alike were expecting much more. He should not be on anyone's fantasy roster right now.

Preds' Stalberg Will Play Saturday

News: Viktor Stalberg (upper body) will play Saturday against the Ducks, Josh Cooper of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: The return to the lineup will mark Viktor Stalberg's first game since Jan. 24. With 15 points and a minus-10 rating in 47 games on the season, Stalberg has been a disappointment for the Predators after signing a four-year, $12 million contract in July.

Predators' Stalberg Could Return Thursday

News: Coach Barry Trotz is optimistic that Viktor Stalberg (upper body) will be ready to return Thursday against the Wild, John Glennon of the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Stalbeg, who hasn't played since Jan. 24, has recorded 15 points and a minus-10 rating in 47 games to date, numbers that restrict his utility to deeper formats.

Predators Place Stalberg On IR

News: Viktor Stalberg (upper body) is listed on injured reserve.
Analysis: Stalbeg hasn't played since last Friday against the Flames, so he would be able to come off IR as soon as he's available. The Predators have been mum on updating the forward's status, making it uncertain when he might see the ice again.

Preds' Stalberg Out Tuesday

News: Viktor Stalberg (upper body) will not play Tuesday against the Jets, Joshua Cooper of the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: The team ruled Viktor Stalberg out for a second straight game after he missed morning skate, but the 28-year-old is still listed as day-to-day and would appear to have a chance to play Friday, barring a setback.

Preds' Stalberg Misses Morning Skate

News: Viktor Stalberg (upper body) did not take part in Tuesday's morning skate, Joshua Cooper of the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: An upper-body injury kept Viktor Stalberg from Sunday's game, and he would appear doubtful for Tuesday in light of this news.

Preds' Stalberg Sits Sunday

News: Viktor Stalberg (upper body) will not play Sunday against the Oilers, Joshua Cooper of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: With both Viktor Stalberg and Matt Cullen out, it looks like the Preds will roll with seven blueliners on Sunday.

Preds' Stalberg Skating On Fourth Line

News: Viktor Stalberg saw just 10:57 and 7:00, respectively, playing on the fourth line in his last two games.
Analysis: With just 15 points and a minus-10 rating in 44 games thus far, Viktor Stalberg has done very little to justify the Preds signing him as a free agent back in July. At this stage, he does not play a large enough offensive role to justify recommending him as a fantasy option in most formats. Avoid.

Stalberg Failing To Produce For Preds

News: Viktor Stalberg failed to garner a point for the fourth consecutive game during Monday's 6-4 win over Detroit.  He has been held off the score sheet in eight of the past 10 games, and has just 11 points on the season to go with a minus-12 rating.
Analysis: Suffice to say, the Preds were hoping for much more out of Viktor Stalberg when he arrived from Chicago as a free agent during the offseason.  While it's hard to contribute much when you're only seeing 11-12 minutes per night on the third line, Stalberg was given an opportunity earlier in the season to play on one of the Preds' scoring lines and did not produce. Unless we see a sharp turnaround in his numbers during the second half of the season, the first year of Nashville's Stalberg experiment will surely be deemed a colossal bust. For fantasy purposes, use him at your own risk.

Stalberg Leads Preds In Win Over Sharks

News: Viktor Stalberg scored the game-winner and added an assist to help the Preds down the Sharks on Saturday. He now has four points in his past five games.
Analysis: After joining the Preds as a free agent in July, Viktor Stalberg got off to a very slow start this season with zero points in eight of his first nine games. However, he's shown much more jump since then, and he's even been bumped to the top line alongside Mike Fisher and Eric Nystrom. He still doesn't see any meaningful power-play time, though. That said, he has decent fantasy value in deeper formats. Plug him into your lineup as needed.

Preds' Stalberg Beginning To Heat Up

News: Viktor Stalberg recorded an assist for the second consecutive game in Wednesday's 4-0 win over Columbus. He now has four points in his last six games.
Analysis: We'd like to see a few more games like this from Viktor Stalberg before we start recommending him - he's still only seeing 12-13 minutes per night in a limited offensive role - but at least it's a step in the right direction.

Preds' Stalberg Gets First Points Of Year

News: Viktor Stalberg notched a goal and an assist in Wednesday's win over the Avalanche.
Analysis: The speedy winger was off to a slow start in his new home after beginning the season on IR, but was able to notch his first two points in a Preds sweater Wednesday night. Viktor Stalberg still has the potential to score 20 goals this year, and he'll finally be given the chance to be a permanent top-six forward, but points will probably be harder to manufacture in Nashville than they were in Chicago.

Viktor Stalberg, LW, NSH Preds Bench Stalberg

Preds Bench Stalberg

News: Viktor Stalberg was a healthy scratch for Thursday's 3-2 OT win over the Jets, the Tennessean reports. "We have to make a short-term decision for a long-term gain," coach Barry Trotz said following Thursday's win. "As Viktor gets his game in order with us, I think he will be fine."
Analysis: With the losses of Sergei Kostitsyn and Martin Erat following last season, the Preds went out and acquired Viktor Stalberg as a free agent to help shore up their offense. However, with zero points through six games this season, it's safe to say he's been a complete bust so far, and this latest benching does nothing to improve his fantasy value. Given the four-year, $12 million price tag he came with, Stalberg will no doubt get another shot to crack the lineup at some point, but he shouldn't be in anyone's fantasy lineup until he shows he can start producing.

Preds Deploying Stalberg In Scoring Role

News: Viktor Stalberg, who has yet to register a point through six games, has been moved to a scoring line in an attempt to get him going, the Tennessean reports. "[Stalberg]'s still learning us and we're still learning him," coach Barry Trotz said. "But the games are going by now...six now, so he has to start producing."
Analysis: In his first five games of the season, Viktor Stalberg was used mainly on the fourth line and didn't play more than 12:20 of ice time. His power play chances also were limited. However, during the Preds' Oct. 22 loss to Minnesota, Stalberg played a more prominent offensive role. Even though he failed to hit the scoresheet, he skated a season-high 14:53 and saw regular power-play shifts. Bottom line, Stalberg's fantasy value heading into this season has yet to be realized, so feel free to keep him on your fantasy bench for the time being.

Preds' Activate Stalberg From IR

News: Viktor Stalberg (shoulder) was activated from injured reserve Saturday, the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: After entering the day with no further ill effects from his shoulder injury, Viktor Stalberg will make his team debut Saturday against the Islanders. It's unclear where exactly he'll fit in for the Predators, but based on the four-year commitment he received in the offseason, it seems the team envisions an elevated offensive role for Stalberg compared to his time in Chicago.

Preds' Stalberg A Game-Time Decision Saturday

News: Viktor Stalberg (shoulder) will be a game-time decision Saturday against the Islanders, the Tennessean's Josh Cooper reports.
Analysis: Viktor Stalberg didn't test out his shoulder during Friday's off-ice workouts, but there is some optimism he could make his season debut Saturday if he makes it through morning skate and warmups without incident. If Stalberg plays, expect him to see lighter playing time than normal in his first game back from injury.

Preds' Stalberg Could Return Saturday

News: Viktor Stalberg (shoulder) could be back as early as Saturday, Mark Masters of TSN reports.
Analysis: This is certainly encouraging news, considering previous reports had Viktor Stalberg likely out for another two weeks with the AC sprain in his shoulder. As of Wednesday, Stalberg still hadn't been cleared for contact, but if he gets the green light in the next day or so, perhaps he'll see some time against the Islanders.

Preds' Stalberg Practices

News: Viktor Stalberg (shoulder) practiced in a non-contact jersey Wednesday, Joshua Cooper of the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: It's nice that the shoulder isn't prohibiting the speedy winger from stick handling and shooting, but he won't be close until he can endure contact again. He's still projected to miss two more weeks at this point, but it's nice that he hasn't suffered any setbacks.

Preds' Stalberg Resumes Skating

News: Coach Barry Trotz said Viktor Stalberg (shoulder) has resumed skating, the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Viktor Stalberg is still projected to miss two or three more weeks while he continues to recover from an AC sprain in his shoulder, but the return to the ice would seem to indicate he's on track to hit that timetable. The Predators signed Stalberg to a four-year, $12 million contract in the offseason and could envision him filling a top-six role for the team once he's healthy.

Preds' Stalberg Out 3-4 Weeks

News: Viktor Stalberg will be out 3-4 weeks with an AC sprain in his right shoulder, Joshua Cooper of the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Viktor Stalberg left the first period of Tuesday's preseason game against the Lightning after being checked hard into the boards by the Bolts' Dmitry Korobov. The good news is that it's just a sprain, so it won't require surgery, but missing the first month of the season is certainly not the start Preds fans were looking for out of their new $12 million winger.

Preds' Stalberg Injured During Preseason Game

News: Viktor Stalberg departed in the first period of Tuesday's preseason game against the Lightning with an apparent arm injury, the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: After being checked by Tampa's Dmitry Korobov 5:39 into the opening period, Viktor Stalberg reportedly skated off the ice and headed straight to the locker room favoring his right arm. The Predators announced later in the period that Stalberg sustained an upper-body injury and would not return to the game. Keep an eye on this injury, as it sounds like it could put his status for opening night in jeopardy. Stalberg signed a four-year, $12 million contract with the Predators in the offseason after helping the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup last season.

Big Expectations For Preds' Stalberg

News: Viktor Stalberg is likely to see time on one of the Predators' top two lines this season along with a good amount of power play time, the Tennessean reports. "I think I'm going to have an opportunity here to improve and get a bigger role and play more key minutes," Stalberg said. "I want to embrace that opportunity. I think what my goal is this year — to be one of those go-to-guys when we're down a goal or up a goal. I want to be on the ice. I want to show them I can do that. That's the biggest thing for me."
Analysis: Last season with Chicago, Viktor Stalberg was buried on the Blackhawks' depth chart behind the likes of Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa, so a fresh start in Nashville will give him the chance to show he belongs in a top-six role. Look for Stalberg's TOI (time on ice) to increase from the roughly 14 minutes he saw in each of the last two seasons. If this happens, a spike in his scoring totals is entirely possible. Mark him down as a dark horse candidate on your fantasy cheat sheet heading into your league's draft night, and look for a good opportunity to get him on the cheap.

News: Viktor Stalberg is heading from Chicago to Nashville after signing a four-year, $12 million contract on Friday, ESPN Chicago reports.

Stalberg To Suit Up Monday

News: Viktor Stalberg is in line to play on a line with Marcus Kruger and Michael Frolik in Monday's Game 3 against the Bruins, Tracey Myers of CSNChicago.com reports.
Analysis: Viktor Stalberg has just three assists in 15 playoff games to date, but he brings more speed and offensive upside to the table than Brandon Bollig, who he is slated to replace in Monday's lineup.
