Preds' Hutton Remains Winless

News: Carter Hutton allowed three goals on 19 shots to take the loss Thursday in Ottawa.
Analysis: Carter Hutton's made just three starts this year as Pekka Rinne's backup, all on the road, and he's yet to collect a win. He played much better than this in his first two outings, though.

Preds Turning To Hutton On Thursday

News: Carter Hutton will be between the pipes Thursday against the Senators, Eric Stromgren of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: It's only the third start of the season for Carter Hutton, who has been one of the league's more lightly-used backups behind the phenomenal Pekka Rinne. Though Hutton is far less talented a netminder than Rinne, Nashville's resurgent offense and reliable defense should keep him competitive Thursday in his quest for his first win of the season.

Preds' Hutton Plays Well In Loss

News: Carter Hutton gave up just two goals on 25 shots Tuesday, but was outdueled by Ondrej Pavelec and stuck with a 2-1 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Carter Hutton's only seen two starts this year, and though he took the loss in both, it's through little fault of his own, as he's stopped 58 of 62 shots (.935). But with Pekka Rinne looking so, well, Rinne-like, Hutton's not going to see too many opportunities.

Predators' Hutton To Get Rare Start Tuesday

News: Carter Hutton is in line to start Tuesday's game against the Jets, according to Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun.
Analysis: Regular goaltender Pekka Rinne stayed on the ice for extra work following Tuesday's morning skate, which puts Carter Hutton in position to start Tuesday night. Hutton gave up just two goals in an overtime loss to the Blackhawks in his lone appearance of the season, but he may be a little rusty, given that he has not appeared in a game since Oct. 18.

Preds' Hutton Makes 35 Saves In Loss

News: Carter Hutton was phenomenal Saturday against Chicago, stopping 35 of 37 shots in an overtime loss.
Analysis: Tough luck for Carter Hutton, who got beat in overtime on a shorthanded breakaway by Jonathan Toews. It's good to see that when Pekka Rinne needs a night off, Hutton can step in and do a solid job. He won't see too much action behind Rinne, but Hutton should deliver when counted upon this season.

Preds To Start Hutton Saturday

News: Carter Hutton will start Saturday against the Blackhawks, Predators radio announcer Willy Daunic reports.
Analysis: Pekka Rinne will take the night off, allowing Carter Hutton to make his first start. He filled in admirably last season while Rinne recovered from hip surgery, but he'll have his work cut out for him against the Blackhawks.

Preds' Hutton Set To Resume Backup Duties

News: Carter Hutton started two of the Predators' six preseason games, allowing two goals on 44 combined shots for a 1.24 GAA and .955 save percentage.
Analysis: Last season, when regular starter Pekka Rinne underwent hip surgery in late October, Carter Hutton stepped in to fill the void for 40 games and even split time with Rinne when he returned to the lineup in March. Surprisingly, Hutton kept the Preds fairly competitive, finishing with a 20-11-4 record, 2.62 GAA and .910 save percentage to establish himself as a reliable backup for the team. This season, Hutton likely won't see as much playing time with Rinne now back to full health, which knocks his fantasy value down a peg or two. However, he should make for a serviceable spot-starting option in daily formats on nights when Rinne rests. Feel free to draft him as a late-round goalie option in deeper leagues.

Preds Re-Sign Hutton To Two-Year Contract

News: Carter Hutton re-signed with the Predators on a two-year, $1.45 million contract Monday.
Analysis: After appearing in just one NHL contest prior to the 2013-14 season, Carter Hutton was pressed into action for 40 games in the wake of hip infection that kept Pekka Rinne out for the majority of the campaign, doing well to keep the Predators competitive. He finished with a 20-11-4 record, 2.62 GAA and .910 save percentage, establishing himself as a reliable backup for the team. He likely won't see as much playing time in the upcoming season barring another long-term Rinne injury, but he may make for a serviceable spot-starting option on the nights he'll be in the net.

Preds' Hutton Rides Offense To Win In Finale

News: Carter Hutton got the win in his final start of the season Sunday against the Wild, stopping 26 of 29 shots.
Analysis: It wasn't Carter Hutton's best effort, but he didn't need to do much with his offense exploding for seven goals. Hutton was uneven at times while serving as the primary fill-in for Pekka Rinne this season, but his final numbers (20-11-4, 2.62 GAA, .910 save percentage) were perfectly serviceable for a career backup pressed into extensive duty.

Preds' Hutton Starting Finale

News: Carter Hutton will get the start in Sunday's season finale against the Wild, Jim Diamond of rinksidereport.com reports.
Analysis: Carter Hutton and Pekka Rinne closed the season in a timeshare, but Rinne is the unquestioned long-term starter.

Hutton's Perfect Night Carries Preds

News: Carter Hutton staked his claim to more crease time with a 35-save shutout against the Sharks on Saturday night.
Analysis: His numbers aren't exactly glorious (2.61, .910), but Carter Hutton's locked in as the backup to Pekka Rinne, who's still got five years left on his contract extension.

Preds' Hutton Expected To Face Sharks On Saturday

News: Carter Hutton is expected to start Saturday against the Sharks, Josh Cooper of the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Coach Barry Trotz has confirmed that regular starter Pekka Rinne, who played Friday against the Ducks in a 5-2 win, will not face the Sharks on Saturday, meaning Carter Hutton is likely to suit up instead. This will be the fifth game where Rinne and Hutton have alternated starts, meaning the two are pretty much locked in a 50-50 timeshare for the time being. For his part, Hutton has been a solid alternative to the normally dependable Rinne, having won his last three starts and sporting an overall record of 18-11-4.

Predators' Hutton Stops 23 In Win

News: Carter Hutton made 23 saves on 26 shots in a shootout victory over the Capitals on Sunday.
Analysis: Carter Hutton has picked up the win in his last three appearances, but he's sharing playing time with Pekka Rinne, and Hutton still only has a .907 save percentage.

Preds Start Hutton On Sunday

News: Carter Hutton will be in net for the Predators when they face the Capitals on Sunday, Katies Carrera of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Carter Hutton has proven to be a fantastic asset for the Predators and should continue to see increased opportunities based on performance. He's allowed just five goals in his last five appearances (three starts) and has a 2.68 GAA and .907 save percentage on the year.

Preds' Hutton Stops 32 In Win

News: Carter Hutton made 32 saves on 33 shots and got six goals of support in Thursday's win over Buffalo.
Analysis: Nice work by Carter Hutton, but it's nothing more than we've come to expect from any goalie who faces off against the hapless Sabres. He'll head back to the bench in favor of Pekka Rinne on Friday in Dallas.

Preds Rolling With Hutton On Thursday

News: Carter Hutton was the first goalie off the ice and looks set to start Thursday against the Sabres, John Manasso of FOX Sports South reports.
Analysis: Carter Hutton will start the front end of the Preds' back-to-back while No. 1 goalie Pekka Rinne likely gets the nod Friday against the Stars. While Hutton's numbers on the season (16-11-4, 2.74 GA, .905 save percentage) aren't remarkable, he makes for a useful streaming option against the sinking Sabres, who have lost nine of their last 10.

Preds' Hutton Stops 10 Shots In Relief Friday

News: Carter Hutton stopped 10 of 11 shots after coming in midway through the second period during the Predators' 6-5 win over Calgary on Friday.
Analysis: Carter Hutton entered the game after starter Pekka Rinne coughed up the lead for the second time in the game and picked up the win after the Predators potted two in the third for a lead they would not relinquish. Hutton is now 16-11-4 with a 2.74 GAA and .905 save percentage.

Preds' Hutton On Wrong End Of Shutout

News: Carter Hutton made 20 saves, but was still handed a 2-0 loss Wednesday against the Canucks.
Analysis: The Predators outshot Vancouver by a 30-22 margin, but opposing goalie Eddie Lack was better than Carter Hutton in a game between two of the league's weaker offenses. Hutton and Lack dueled to a scoreless first two periods before both Nicklas Jensen and Alexander Edler got the puck past Hutton in a span of 1:13 in the third period to salt the game away for the home team. Hutton will likely find himself back on the bench for Friday's game against the Flames.

Preds To Start Hutton On Wednesday

News: Carter Hutton will be in the net Wednesday vs. the Canucks, Stu Grimson of the Predators Radio Network reports.
Analysis: After No. 1 goalie Pekka Rinne was roughed up for five goals in Tuesday's loss to Edmonton, Carter Hutton will draw the start in the second half of the back-to-back. Hutton hasn't seen much time these days since Rinne returned from his hip infection, but he was superb his last time out, holding the Sabres to one goal on 25 shots in a Mar. 11 victory.

Preds' Hutton Downs Sabres

News: Carter Hutton stopped 24 of 25 shots in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Sabres.
Analysis: Well, this didn't exacrly come against a strong opponent, but Carter Hutton will take it, considering he'd posted sub-.900 save marks in three straight games prior to Tuesday's.

Preds Going With Hutton On Tuesday

News: Carter Hutton will make his next start Tuesday against the Sabres, John Glennon of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: No. 1 starter Pekka Rinne will be in goal for the fourth straight game Monday against the Senators, leaving Carter Hutton to draw into the crease for the second half of the back-to-back. With the Predators on the outside looking in for a playoff spot out West, look for coach Barry Trotz to ride Rinne heavily down the stretch, with Hutton only on hand to pick up the scraps.

Preds' Hutton Lets In Three In Loss

News: Carter Hutton surrendered three goals on 20 shots in Saturday's loss to the Jets.
Analysis: For the second consecutive game, Carter Hutton's defense did a magnificent job of limiting the opponent's shot attempts, but the goalie was unable to come up with enough saves to keep the team in the game. Hutton has enjoyed the No. 1 goalie gig for the bulk of Pekka Rinne's (hip) absence, but with Rinne being activated from IR on Saturday and perhaps due to return next week, Hutton's fantasy relevance could soon come to a halt.

Preds Stick With Hutton On Saturday

News: Carter Hutton will receive the start in goal Saturday against the Jets, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: After Carter Hutton breezed to a relatively easy win over the Lightning on Thursday that required him to make just 14 saves, he'll be back on the ice Saturday for a pivotal contest. The Jets and Predators are separated by just two points in the Western Conference standings as both teams look to claw themselves back into positioning to claim the final playoff spot.

Preds' Hutton Tested Little In Win

News: Carter Hutton faced just 16 shots in Thursday's win over Tampa Bay, allowing two goals.
Analysis: Not an impressive outing, but Carter Hutton and the Preds did lock things down and mount a successful comeback after two early goals by Martin St. Louis staked the Lightning to a 2-0 lead. Pekka Rinne seems to be getting close to a return, so Hutton's already-limited fantasy value is going to evaporate soon.

Hutton Still Preds' Starter

News: Predators coach Barry Trotz stated Wednesday that Carter Hutton is still the team's starting goaltender, Joshua Cooper of the Tennessean reports. He'll be in the crease Thursday against the Lightning in the team's first game out of the break, Kristopher Martel of ThePredatorial.com reports.
Analysis: Pekka Rinne (hip) was assigned to AHL Milwaukee on a conditioning stint Wednesday, so the starting job is still Carter Hutton's, at least for now. Hutton is currently 13-9-4 with a .904 save percentage and a 2.87 GAA.
