Preds' Hutton To Receive Thursday Start

News: Carter Hutton will be in the crease for Thursday's game against the Blues, Kristopher Martel of FOX Sports reports.
Analysis: The Predators will kick off a back-to-back set Thursday, so coach Peter Laviolette will save Carter Hutton for the tougher matchup while backup Marek Mazanec presumably gets the nod Friday in Colorado. While Hutton currently slots in as the Preds' top netminder with Pekka Rinne (knee) unavailable, he probably hasn't created much distance between himself and Mazanec. Over his four starts in place of Rinne, Hutton has gone 2-1-1, but posted a mediocre .876 save percentage.

Preds' Hutton Good Enough In Win

News: Carter Hutton made only 21 saves on 24 shots, but ended up with an overtime with Tuesday against the Avalanche.
Analysis: He got bailed out big-time by Craig Smith's overtime tally after allowing Avs defenseman Nick Holden to score the game-tying goal in the final minute of the third. Carter Hutton's now 2-1-1 in four starts since Pekka Rinne's injury, but he's hardly distinguished himself in that time, having allowed 11 goals on 89 shots (an .876 save mark).

Preds Confirm Hutton For Tuesday

News: Carter Hutton led the Predators onto the ice for pregame warmups and has been confirmed as the starter in goal Tuesday against the Avalanche.
Analysis: It will mark Carter Hutton's first career appearance against the Avalanche. Semyon Varlamov gets the start in the opposite net for the visiting Avalanche, who have played sub-.500 hockey on the road this season.

Preds' Hutton Expected To Get Start

News: Carter Hutton is expected to receive the start in goal Tuesday against the Avalanche.
Analysis: The results have been mediocre for Carter Hutton since he replaced Pekka Rinne as the Preds' primary starter back on Jan. 16 -- he's gone 1-1-1 while stopping 57 of 65 shots (.876 save percentage) in his three starts. Hutton may need a strong outing here to solidify his standing above Marek Mazanec on the depth chart. Expect the Predators to relay confirmation on Hutton as Tuesday's starter during pregame warmups.

Hutton, Preds Fall In OT

News: Carter Hutton kept pace with Montreal's Carey Price for more than 64 minutes Tuesday, but ended up being sunk by P.K. Subban with 52 seconds left in overtime. He stopped 25 of 27 on the evening.
Analysis: Despite the loss, it's a nice bounce-back outing for Carter Hutton after he allowed three goals on four shots in his last start. He should continue seeing the majority of opportunities in the Preds' net while Pekka Rinne remains out with a knee injury.

Preds Poised To Stick With Hutton

News: Carter Hutton appears on track to start Tuesday's game against Montreal, Brooks Bratten of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: It looks like Carter Hutton -- who is seeing added action with Pekka Rinne sidelined -- will be given a chance to bounce back from a tough effort in Saturday's game against Detroit, which saw him pulled after making just one save on four shots.

Preds' Hutton Chased From Net After Just One Save

News: Carter Hutton was forced from Saturday's game after making just one save on four shots.
Analysis: Oh boy. He was making his second start since Pekka Rinne went down with a knee injury and it was an ugly one. Marek Mazanec took over in relief. He needs to do a lot better than this to keep the Preds at the top of the standings. Make sure you've handcuffed Mazanec to him.

Predators' Hutton Will Start Saturday

News: Carter Hutton will start in net against the Red Wings on Saturday, Eric Stromgren of the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Carter Hutton is in search of just his second win of the season Saturday. He'll take the ice against against the Red Wings hoping to improve upon his .907 save percentage over seven appearances this year.

Preds' Hutton Nabs First Win

News: Carter Hutton stopped 31 of 34 shots for his first win of the season Friday against the Capitals.
Analysis: It was a great outing from the 29-year-old, who becomes the starter in Nashville with Pekka Rinne (knee) out due to injury. Carter Hutton owns a 1-3-2 record on the season with a .907 save percentage and 2.66 GAA. Considering the Predators are on top of the NHL with 64 points and Rinne is out for approximately three-to-five weeks, Hutton makes for a great fantasy option until the Vezina front-runner returns to duty.

Preds' Hutton To Start Friday

News: Carter Hutton will man the crease for the Predators on Friday against the Capitals.
Analysis: Carter Hutton looks primed to serve as the Preds' primary netminder for the next few weeks with Pekka Rinne out with a sprained knee. He'll look to capture his first win of the season after going 0-3-2 with a 2.60 GAA over his previous six appearances.

Larger Workload On Tap For Preds' Hutton

News: With Pekka Rinne (sprained knee) ruled out for the next three-to-five weeks, Carter Hutton is set to assume a larger workload for the Predators, NHL.com's Robby Stanley reports.
Analysis: Prior to replacing Rinne late in Tuesday's win over the Canucks, Carter Hutton had logged just five appearances, despite being completely healthy all season. As was the case last season when Rinne suffered a hip infection, it looks like Hutton will now be pressed into heavier duty in an instant. While the Preds' better collection of talent up and down the roster puts Hutton in better position for success than it did a year ago, the goalie will need to play well to hold off AHL call-up Marek Mazanec, who figures to push him for starting duties.

Preds' Hutton Sharp In Relief Tuesday

News: Carter Hutton turned away all 10 shots he faced in relief of an injured Pekka Rinne (lower body) in Tuesday's win over Vancouver.
Analysis: The win's still Rinne's, leaving Carter Hutton still without one on the year. However, the Predators' next couple starts in net could potentially go to Hutton if their star goalie's injury holds him out of action. Hutton hasn't exactly excelled as Rinne's backup this year, but he delivered fairly competent work while the Finn was out with injury last season.

Preds' Hutton Gives Up Three Goals In Loss

News: Carter Hutton surrendered three goals on 33 shots in Sunday's shootout loss to the Ducks.
Analysis: It wasn't a bad outing for the 29-year-old backup, who is still searching for his first win of the season. Carter Hutton now owns an 0-3-2 record, to go with a .899 save percentage and 2.75 GAA. While he rarely sees any action behind workhorse Pekka Rinne, Hutton is still a decent spot start whenever he gets the nod. He'll get a win eventually, as he's been decent this season, never allowing more than three even-strength goals in any outing.

Predators' Hutton Starting Sunday

News: Carter Hutton is starting Sunday's game against the Ducks, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Carter Hutton carries a 0-3-1 record into his fifth start of the season, making his first appearance since Dec. 23. Pekka Rinne will likely be back in net for Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes.

Hutton, Preds Lose In Boston

News: Carter Hutton allowed four goals on 24 shots Tuesday in a 5-3 road loss to the Bruins.
Analysis: At least he wasn't on the hook for the fifth goal, an empty-netter. Carter Hutton's still looking for his first win of the year, having gone his first four starts without collecting one. Considering how rarely he plays behind Pekka Rinne -- he hadn't appeared in an NHL game in more than a month prior to Tuesday -- it's not likely he'll get too many chances to pick up wins this year.

Preds' Hutton Confirmed For Tuesday Start

News: Carter Hutton led the Predators on the ice for pregame warmups and will indeed get the start in goal Tuesday against the Bruins, Eric Stromgren of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: It's just the fourth nod of the season for Carter Hutton, who carries a 0-2-1 record and 2.32 GAA into the contest. He'll continue to see slim picking behind Vezina Trophy frontrunner Pekka Rinne, but because of the talent surrounding him, he should be in contention for the win against demonstrably weaker opponents. Things probably won't come particularly easy for him on the road against the Bruins, however, making him a streaming option worth avoiding Tuesday.

Preds' Hutton Probable To Start Tuesday

News: Carter Hutton is considered the probable starter in goal for Tuesday's tilt with the Bruins.
Analysis: The Predators didn't hold a morning skate Tuesday, so official word on the team's starting goalie for the match likely won't come until pregame warmups begin a half hour before the 7:00 ET start. However, because Carter Hutton hasn't played since Nov. 20 and the Preds will play their second game in as many days, don't be surprised if the backup gets the call. He's made just three appearances this season.

Preds' Hutton Remains Winless

News: Carter Hutton allowed three goals on 19 shots to take the loss Thursday in Ottawa.
Analysis: Carter Hutton's made just three starts this year as Pekka Rinne's backup, all on the road, and he's yet to collect a win. He played much better than this in his first two outings, though.

Preds Turning To Hutton On Thursday

News: Carter Hutton will be between the pipes Thursday against the Senators, Eric Stromgren of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: It's only the third start of the season for Carter Hutton, who has been one of the league's more lightly-used backups behind the phenomenal Pekka Rinne. Though Hutton is far less talented a netminder than Rinne, Nashville's resurgent offense and reliable defense should keep him competitive Thursday in his quest for his first win of the season.

Preds' Hutton Plays Well In Loss

News: Carter Hutton gave up just two goals on 25 shots Tuesday, but was outdueled by Ondrej Pavelec and stuck with a 2-1 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Carter Hutton's only seen two starts this year, and though he took the loss in both, it's through little fault of his own, as he's stopped 58 of 62 shots (.935). But with Pekka Rinne looking so, well, Rinne-like, Hutton's not going to see too many opportunities.

Predators' Hutton To Get Rare Start Tuesday

News: Carter Hutton is in line to start Tuesday's game against the Jets, according to Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun.
Analysis: Regular goaltender Pekka Rinne stayed on the ice for extra work following Tuesday's morning skate, which puts Carter Hutton in position to start Tuesday night. Hutton gave up just two goals in an overtime loss to the Blackhawks in his lone appearance of the season, but he may be a little rusty, given that he has not appeared in a game since Oct. 18.

Preds' Hutton Makes 35 Saves In Loss

News: Carter Hutton was phenomenal Saturday against Chicago, stopping 35 of 37 shots in an overtime loss.
Analysis: Tough luck for Carter Hutton, who got beat in overtime on a shorthanded breakaway by Jonathan Toews. It's good to see that when Pekka Rinne needs a night off, Hutton can step in and do a solid job. He won't see too much action behind Rinne, but Hutton should deliver when counted upon this season.

Preds To Start Hutton Saturday

News: Carter Hutton will start Saturday against the Blackhawks, Predators radio announcer Willy Daunic reports.
Analysis: Pekka Rinne will take the night off, allowing Carter Hutton to make his first start. He filled in admirably last season while Rinne recovered from hip surgery, but he'll have his work cut out for him against the Blackhawks.

Preds' Hutton Set To Resume Backup Duties

News: Carter Hutton started two of the Predators' six preseason games, allowing two goals on 44 combined shots for a 1.24 GAA and .955 save percentage.
Analysis: Last season, when regular starter Pekka Rinne underwent hip surgery in late October, Carter Hutton stepped in to fill the void for 40 games and even split time with Rinne when he returned to the lineup in March. Surprisingly, Hutton kept the Preds fairly competitive, finishing with a 20-11-4 record, 2.62 GAA and .910 save percentage to establish himself as a reliable backup for the team. This season, Hutton likely won't see as much playing time with Rinne now back to full health, which knocks his fantasy value down a peg or two. However, he should make for a serviceable spot-starting option in daily formats on nights when Rinne rests. Feel free to draft him as a late-round goalie option in deeper leagues.

Preds Re-Sign Hutton To Two-Year Contract

News: Carter Hutton re-signed with the Predators on a two-year, $1.45 million contract Monday.
Analysis: After appearing in just one NHL contest prior to the 2013-14 season, Carter Hutton was pressed into action for 40 games in the wake of hip infection that kept Pekka Rinne out for the majority of the campaign, doing well to keep the Predators competitive. He finished with a 20-11-4 record, 2.62 GAA and .910 save percentage, establishing himself as a reliable backup for the team. He likely won't see as much playing time in the upcoming season barring another long-term Rinne injury, but he may make for a serviceable spot-starting option on the nights he'll be in the net.
