News:Ryan McDonagh was injured on the last play of Saturday's overtime loss to Ottawa.
Analysis: He was going down to block a shot, but wasn't in the right position and took a Jared Cowen slap shot right off the family jewels. He was screaming in agony as the Sens' Chris Neil stuffed the winner home. He was able to collect himself enough to get to the bench, hunched over and unable to really push off with either leg. He would be a monumental loss to the Rangers if he can't play next game -- he's one of the team's leading blueliners.
News:Ryan McDonagh registered a goal and an assist in Tuesday's win over Philadelphia. He also laid five hits in the win.
Analysis:Ryan McDonagh has 32 points on the season, just two of those coming on the meager power-play time he receives. McDonagh's has been a tremendous value for owners and is still maturing, so it's not of the question to expect similar or better numbers next season. He's an excellent keeper-league prospect. His seven goals on the season are five more than Montrea's Scott Gomez, the player for whom he was traded.
News:Ryan McDonagh scored a goal for the second straight game Tuesday in a win over Boston, potting an unassisted tally against Tim Thomas. He didn't appear to be bothered by the knee he tweaked Sunday.
Analysis: He got a friendly deflection off Zdeno Chara and past Thomas for his sixth goal of the season right at the end of the first period. Ryan McDonagh hasn't been hugely productive on the offensive end, but his plus-24 rating gives him fantasy value, and he remains a terrific long-term keeper.
News:Ryan McDonagh said that he "tweaked" his knee and went briefly to the trainer's room during Sunday's game against the Caps to stretch, but said the issue was nothing serious, ESPN's Katie Strang reports.
Analysis:Ryan McDonagh scored a goal and led the Rangers in ice time (25:23) Sunday, which supports his assertion that there's nothing to worry about here. We'll let you know if that assessment changes.
News:Ryan McDonagh (upper body) expects to play Tuesday against Winnipeg, Newsday reports.

News:Ryan McDonagh (flu) played 25:56 and fired four shots on goal in the win over Philadelphia on Monday.
Analysis: He was able to take on a heavy workload Monday despite leaving the ice early during Sunday's practice with the flu. If his current pace holds up, Ryan McDonagh should make a push for the 35-point mark by season's end.
News:Ryan McDonagh left practice Sunday due to the flu, the Rangers' official Twitter feed reports.
Analysis: He's day-to-day and ultimately considered questionable to play in Monday's Winter Classic against the Flyers as a result.
News:Ryan McDonagh set up two goals in Saturday's win over Tampa Bay. He now has points in five of his last six games.
Analysis: He's been an offensive machine of late with five assists and one goal in that span. The Rangers have been on fire of late and Ryan McDonagh is along for the ride. Take advantage.
News:Ryan McDonagh scored his second goal of the year Thursday against Calgary with two seconds remaining in overtime.
Analysis: He came up in the play and was in the perfect spot to fire in a rebound off the back boards to stun Henrik Karlsson and the Flames. Ryan McDonagh has been given more ice time and more responsibility this year thanks to Marc Staal's injury, and he's answered the call with four points and a plus-3 rating in five games thus far.
News: With the Rangers starting the season without their top defensemen in Marc Staal, they've promoted Ryan McDonagh to take his place with Dan Girardi as their top defensive pair, according to Newsday.
Analysis: Coach John Tortorella didn't want to shake up all his defensive pairs with Staal out of the lineup and initially was hoping to keep young defensemen Ryan McDonagh and Michael Sauer paired together, as they've developed a good chemistry. However, this also made them the Rangers best remaining defensive unit and likely made him wary of putting such a burden on them. Tortorella also went on to say, he had to have his best remaining defensemen, Girardi, as part of his top pair. Assuming Staal isn't out of the lineup too long, this could be a valuable experience for the young defensemen McDonagh. Even with the promotion, McDonagh has very little fantasy value.
News: McDonagh (undisclosed injury) will skate Tuesday morning and should be available for Tuesday's game against the Panthers, TSN's Darren Dreger reports.
Analysis: The recipient of Matt Cooke's elbow sat out Monday's practice as a precaution, but it looks like he'll be able to go Tuesday. Cooke, on the other hand, is done for the year due to an NHL suspension.
News: McDonagh (undisclosed injury) did not practice Monday, Newsday's Steve Zipay reports.
Analysis: Coach John Tortorella noted Monday that McDonagh's absence was precautionary. McDonagh
was on the receiving end of a Matt Cooke elbow Sunday, but he appears to have avoided any significant injury. Look for the NHL to suspend Cooke, however.
Rangers' McDonagh Has Strong Return After One-Game Absence
News: McDonagh returned Sunday after missing one game (knee). His return was noticeable with an assist, plus-4 rating, two hits and two blocks, according to the Daily News.
Analysis: McDonagh's assist was his fourth in his last seven games. McDonagh is paired with another rookie defenseman, Michael Sauer, both of whom have had very strong rookie years. It'll be another year or two before McDonagh becomes a factor on the offensive side of things.
News: Newsday's Steve Zipay reports that McDonagh (knee) is in for Sunday's game against the Flyers.
Analysis: Good news for the Rangers' blue line depth, but with just five assists and eight PIMs in 25 games thus far, McDonagh is a marginal fantasy option.
News: Rangers' Coach John Tortorella said McDonagh (knee) was progressing better than expected but still listed as day-to-day, according to the New York Post.
Analysis: The Rangers don't play again until Wednesday after their game Sunday, so they may decide to play it cautious with McDonagh and give him a few more days to heal up.
