Petry Headed Out Of Edmonton?

News: Jeff Petry could be trade bait for teams in need of a defensive defenseman, reports the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Jeff Petry will be an unrestricted free agent in July, so the Oilers could be thinking of trading him and getting something back rather than losing him to free agency. He won't bring back a top pick or player, but something is still better than nothing.

Oilers' Petry Earns Point Tuesday

News: Jeff Petry was credited with an assist in Tuesday's loss to the Red Wings.
Analysis: The blueliner typically tops the 20-minute mark in ice time most nights for the Oilers, but he's usually tasked with staying in his own zone. With nine points and a minus-18 rating over 40 games, Jeff Petry doesn't offer much value in fantasy circles.

Oilers' Petry Gets First Goal

News: Jeff Petry scored his first goal of the year Thursday against Ottawa, and it was a big one -- a game-tying tally in the third period that completed the Oilers' comeback from a 3-1 deficit to force overtime.
Analysis: It's a nice moment for Jeff Petry, helping his team get a point in the overtime loss, but his lack of scoring prowess and regular minuses -- his minus-1 Thursday pushed him to minus-5 in the last four games -- make him hard to roll out in fantasy.

Oilers' Petry Not Dealing With Injury

News: Coach Dallas Eakins said Jeff Petry (undisclosed) isn't dealing with an injury and will be a healthy scratch Tuesday versus the Kings, Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports.
Analysis: Eakins cited Jeff Petry's abbreviated training camp due to a shoulder injury as the primary reason for the Oilers giving him an early rest. Darnell Nurse will take his spot in the lineup Tuesday, but look for Petry to assume his spot on the top pairing with Andrew Ference in Wednesday's match against Arizona.

Oilers' Petry Out Tuesday With Injury

News: Jeff Petry (undisclosed) will be out of the lineup Tuesday against the Kings, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: Coach Dallas Eakins stated a desire to get top blueline prospect Darnell Nurse some game action after he sat out the previous two games, so it appears Jeff Petry's undisclosed ailment will allow him to follow through with the plan. There's nothing to suggest Petry's absence will be a long-term concern, however, so there's a chance he could be available as early as Wednesday versus the Coyotes.

Shoulder Injury Behind Oilers' Petry

News: After dealing with a shoulder injury in training camp, Jeff Petry looks to be ready to go for the start of the regular season, Oilers play-by-play announcer Jack Michaels reports.
Analysis: Jeff Petry was fully practicing Wednesday on the top pairing with Andrew Ference, with whom he'll partner up with in Thursday's season opener against the Flames. The 26-year-old isn't a total liability on the offensive end (17 points in 80 games last season), but he earns his paycheck due to his physicality on the Oilers' back end.

Oilers' Petry Recovering From Shoulder Issue

News: Jeff Petry hasn't participated in any exhibition contests after suffering a shoulder injury on the first day of training camp, Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports.
Analysis: The injury occurred when Jeff Petry collided with teammate Anton Lander in a scrimmage, with his left shoulder taking the brunt of the damage. After taking last week off, Petry has been on the ice with his team for the past two days, with a return to preseason action likely to come later this week. The 26-year-old, who is on a one-year deal with the Oilers, is expected to assume a top-four role on defense. He has some sandpaper in his game (181 hits, 132 blocks in 80 contests in 2013-14), but a minus-22 rating might have limited his overall fantasy impact.

Petry Re-Signs With Oilers

News: The Oilers have signed Jeff Petry to a one-year, $3.1 million contract.
Analysis: With 17 points, 42 PIM and a minus-22 rating in 80 games for the Oilers in 2013-14, Jeff Petry wasn't much of a fantasy factor in most formats, but it's worth noting that he did lead the team in both blocked shots (132) and hits (181) this past season.

Oilers Give Qualifying Offer To Petry

News: Jeff Petry was one of nine Oilers given qualifying offers on Monday, according to Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Jeff Petry had seven goals and 17 points in 80 games for Edmonton last season and will battle for the final defensive pairing in training camp.

Petry's PPG Not Enough For Oilers

News: Jeff Petry registered a first-period power-play goal Saturday against Calgary, but the Oilers could muster no more offense as the Flames won in a blowout, 8-1.
Analysis: For an indication of his fantasy value, please note that this is his third point in 21 games. There are likely to be much better fantasy values at the blue line for you.

Oilers' Petry Expected To Play Sunday

News: Jeff Petry (back) is expected to play Sunday against the Kings, according to Derek Van Diest of the Edmonton Sun.
Analysis: The Oilers were unsure about Jeff Petry's back so they brought up Oscar Klefbom on an emergency basis. However, Petry is obviously feeling much better which means that he will be out on the ice for Sunday's action.

Oilers' Petry Questionable To Play Sunday

News: Jeff Petry (back) is questionable to play Sunday, according to the Oilers web site.
Analysis: Jeff Petry injured the back Thursday but reported feeling much better during practice Saturday. Assuming he doesn't suffer a setback before the game Sunday it would seem to be a safe bet that he will give it a go versus the Kings.

Oilers' Petry Gets Goal In Win

News: Jeff Petry (foot) notched his fourth goal of the season in Monday's win over the Sabres.
Analysis: Jeff Petry's status was in some question heading into the game after he took a puck to his foot over the weekend, but he ended up coming through for the few owners who may have been counting on him. He finished with a three hits, two blocks and a plus-2 rating in the victory.

Oilers' Petry Expected To Play Monday

News: Jeff Petry (foot) is expected to play Monday against the Sabres.
Analysis: Jeff Petry missed Sunday's practice with a sore foot after he blocked a shot in Saturday's loss to the Bruins, but it looks like he'll be cleared to play Monday. He took part in morning skate and should be able to play through any lingering soreness.

Oilers' Petry Day-To-Day With Foot Injury

News: Jeff Petry is day-to-day after taking a shot off his foot during Saturday's game.
Analysis: Jeff Petry's foot is sore and he had to come off the ice during Sunday's morning skate because of it. Still, coach Dallas Eakins hopes the defenseman will be ready for Monday's game.

Oilers' Petry To Play Thursday

News: Jeff Petry (head) will play in Wednesday's game against the Bruins.
Analysis: Jeff Petry missed Tuesday's game after suffering a head injury Saturday night, but that will be the extent of his absence after he was cleared to play Thursday. Petry was a healthy scratch as recently as last Thursday, so it remains to be seen what his role will be moving forward.

Oilers' Petry Practices

News: Jeff Petry (head) practiced in an orange full-contact jersey Wednesday, Bob Stauffer of 630 CHED reports.
Analysis: The blueliner missed Tuesday's win over the Hurricanes with the head injury, but it looks like he'll be good to go moving forward. Jeff Petry has two goals and four assists in 30 games this season.

Oilers' Petry (Head) Out Tuesday

News: Jeff Petry (head) participated at morning skate, but will not play Tuesday against the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Although Jeff Petry won't be in the lineup Tuesday, coach Dallas Eakins indicated he could be an option Thursday against the Bruins if he continues to show improvement over the next couple of days. He sustained the injury in Saturday's game against the Flames.

Oilers' Petry (Head) Will Not Return

News: Jeff Petry (head) will not return after leaving Saturday's game with a head injury, according to a report on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada.
Analysis: The side of his head smacked the turnbuckle on a hard (legal) hit. He was dazed on the ice and trainers escorted him to the dressing room. Fingers crossed this isn't a serious injury.

Oilers' Petry: Hit To The Head

News: Jeff Petry was forced into the quiet room during the second period of Saturday's game after he hit his head on the turnbuckle on a big hit. There is no word on his return.
Analysis: He released the puck just before the hit and his head snapped sideways into the turnbuckle. He was woozy on the ice and required medical attention.

Oilers' Petry Healthy Scratched Thursday

News: Jeff Petry was a healthy scratch for Thursday's tilt versus the Avalanche, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Jeff Petry is averaging about 22 minutes of ice time a game and has generally been thought of as the Oilers' best defenseman, but his struggles of late made coach Dallas Eakins give him a mental-health day. Petry shouldn't be out of the lineup long, as the Oilers need every capable blueliner on the ice, not in the press box.

Oilers' Petry At Minus-13 Through 20 Games

News: Jeff Petry has five points and a minus-13 rating through 20 games this season.
Analysis: Due in large part to horrible goalie play from Devan Dubnyk and Jason LaBarbera, Jeff Petry's abysmal minus-13 rating ranks last among defensemen and would be the worst in the NHL if not for the poorer marks of teammates Nail Yakupov, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Ales Hemsky. The rating isn't likely to improve anytime soon and may continue to sabotage Petry's otherwise serviceable two goals, three assists and 22:13 TOI per game.

Oilers' Petry Plays Through Sore Foot

News: Jeff Petry took a shot by Jason Garrison off his foot in the first period of Thursday's loss to the Canucks but remained in the game, the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: Jeff Petry tallied three hits and two blocked shots in the losing effort.

Petry Gets Physical In Oilers' Home Loss

News: Jeff Petry delivered seven hits Saturday in the Oilers' 3-0 loss to the Blues. He finished the night minus-2.
Analysis: If your league measures toughness by hits instead of by penalty minutes, you already know that that's a full night's work.
