Habs' Petry Makes Debut

News: Jeff Petry arrived in time for Monday night's game against San Jose and played 18:15 in a 4-0 loss to the Sharks. The defenseman was traded from Edmonton to Montreal earlier in the day.
Analysis: Jeff Petry arrived a couple of hours before game time, got a quick lay of the land from assistant coach J.J. Daigneault, and then skated on a top-four pairing with Sergei Gonchar.

Canadiens' Petry Will Be Available Monday

News: Jeff Petry will be available to play Monday against the Sharks, TSN 690 in Montreal reports.
Analysis: Jeff Petry, who was acquired from the Oilers on Monday in exchange for two draft picks, will be an option for his new team, but it remains to be seen how much he'll play with no practice time. The defenseman appeared in 59 games for the Oilers this season, notching 15 points (four goals, 11 assists) and 32 PIM.

Canadiens' Petry To Join Team In San Jose

News: Jeff Petry will join the Canadiens in San Jose on Monday, Arpon Basu of LNH.com reports.
Analysis: Jeff Petry was traded from the Oilers to the Canadiens on Monday in exchange for a pair of draft picks, and it seems possible he could dress for his new team. He will likely need to get in some practice with the Canadiens before joining them for a game, but a decision on his status should come at some point Monday prior to the opening face-off.

Habs Acquire Petry

News: Jeff Petry was acquired by the Habs for a pair of draft picks on Monday, Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: The steady puck-moving blueliner has typically been a 15-to-20 point player for the Oilers, but he could see a slight uptick in projection with the move to Montreal. It's believed that the picks include a second-round and fifth-round selection. The latter pick can become as much as a third-rounder if the Habs win a pair of playoff series.

Petry Out For Edmonton On Saturday

News: Jeff Petry will indeed be a healthy scratch Saturday against the Blues, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: The Oilers want to avoid any chance of an injury to Jeff Petry, as he is expected to be traded before the deadline Monday.

Oilers' Petry May Sit Saturday

News: Jeff Petry could be a healthy scratch Saturday, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: No, Jeff Petry has not suffered another injury. This move would be just to protect Petry and the team in the event they decide to trade him before the deadline Monday.

Oilers Still Likely To Deal Petry

News: The Oilers are still likely to deal Jeff Petry before the Mar. 2 trade deadline, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Jeff Petry could bring back a good price from those teams that lost out on Andrej Sekera. One could make an argument that Petry is the type of solid defenseman that the Oilers should be keeping, but in the end, this team is far from competitive, and it may be best to acquire as many prospects and picks as possible.

Oilers' Petry Good To Go

News: Jeff Petry (ribs) will play Tuesday against the Wild.
Analysis: Jeff Petry, who last suited up on Feb. 18, checks back in with 15 points and a minus-25 rating in 58 games for the Oilers. He's a candidate to be dealt before the NHL trade deadline and in such a scenario, Petry's plus/minus numbers would stand to benefit.

Oilers' Petry Could Return Tuesday

News: Jeff Petry (ribs) could return to the lineup Tuesday, according to the Oilers web site.
Analysis: Jeff Petry was injured when he took a slap shot to the ribs but has looked much better in practice and could return Tuesday but almost certainly no later than Saturday.

Oilers' Petry (Ribs) Out Saturday

News: Jeff Petry (ribs) is out for Saturday's game against the Ducks, Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports.
Analysis: Jeff Petry is day-to-day, and he'll be replaced in the lineup by Jordan Oesterle.

Petry and Edmonton Involved In Contract Talks

News: Jeff Petry and the Oilers are involved in talks for a new contract, according to the Oilers web site.
Analysis: This seems to be a reversal from just a couple of weeks ago when general manager Craig MacTavish seemed content to let Jeff Petry play out the final season of his deal. Whether or not Petry gets dealt by the deadline will more than likely come down to whether or not the team can re-sign him.

Oilers To Keep Petry Out Friday

News: Jeff Petry (ribs) will sit out Friday's game against the Wild.
Analysis: He'll be replaced in the lineup by Keith Aulie. The Oilers are listing Jeff Petry as day-to-day, but his participation in Friday's morning skate suggests he's not due for a long-term absence. In fact, he could be back in the lineup for Saturday's match with the Ducks.

Oilers' Petry Reports Improvement

News: Jeff Petry (ribs) indicated the he felt better Thursday after leaving Wednesday's game against the Bruins with the injury, Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports.
Analysis: The blueliner hopes to be available for the Oilers' next game Friday against the Wild, though his status likely won't be determined until earlier that morning. Even if Jeff Petry ends up missing the game, it appears he's not looking at any sort of lengthy absence. That's something of a relief for the Oilers, who are believed to be interesting in trading Petry prior to the Mar. 2 deadline.

Oilers' Petry Leaves With Rib Injury

News: Jeff Petry suffered a rib injury in Wednesday's game and will not return.
Analysis: The extent of Jeff Petry's setback is uncertain, so it remains to be seen if it will prevent him from playing in Edmonton's next game Friday.

Oilers' Petry Expected To Be Traded By Deadline

News: Jeff Petry is expected to be traded before the Mar. 2 trade deadline, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Jeff Petry and the Oilers have not scheduled any negotiations to work on a new contract. It seems that general manager Craig MacTavish has soured on Petry for whatever reason, even though one could make the argument that Petry has been the team's best defenseman this season. Petry won't fetch a top pick or a major prospect in a deal, but defenders are always in demand at the deadline, and he should be able to bring back a decent piece should the Oilers indeed go in that direction.

Oilers' Petry Earns Assist, Two PIM In Win

News: Jeff Petry picked up an assist and two PIM in Thursday's 4-3 overtime win over the Canadiens.
Analysis: Jeff Petry's numbers on the season (13 points, minus-25 rating over 55 games) are far from outstanding, but his steady play in his own zone could make him a popular trade target for contending teams as the deadline approaches. While a potential move to another team would surely help his plus/minus rating, he's unlikely to deliver enough offense to emerge as an intriguing fantasy option in most formats.

Petry Headed Out Of Edmonton?

News: Jeff Petry could be trade bait for teams in need of a defensive defenseman, reports the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Jeff Petry will be an unrestricted free agent in July, so the Oilers could be thinking of trading him and getting something back rather than losing him to free agency. He won't bring back a top pick or player, but something is still better than nothing.

Oilers' Petry Earns Point Tuesday

News: Jeff Petry was credited with an assist in Tuesday's loss to the Red Wings.
Analysis: The blueliner typically tops the 20-minute mark in ice time most nights for the Oilers, but he's usually tasked with staying in his own zone. With nine points and a minus-18 rating over 40 games, Jeff Petry doesn't offer much value in fantasy circles.

Oilers' Petry Gets First Goal

News: Jeff Petry scored his first goal of the year Thursday against Ottawa, and it was a big one -- a game-tying tally in the third period that completed the Oilers' comeback from a 3-1 deficit to force overtime.
Analysis: It's a nice moment for Jeff Petry, helping his team get a point in the overtime loss, but his lack of scoring prowess and regular minuses -- his minus-1 Thursday pushed him to minus-5 in the last four games -- make him hard to roll out in fantasy.

Oilers' Petry Not Dealing With Injury

News: Coach Dallas Eakins said Jeff Petry (undisclosed) isn't dealing with an injury and will be a healthy scratch Tuesday versus the Kings, Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports.
Analysis: Eakins cited Jeff Petry's abbreviated training camp due to a shoulder injury as the primary reason for the Oilers giving him an early rest. Darnell Nurse will take his spot in the lineup Tuesday, but look for Petry to assume his spot on the top pairing with Andrew Ference in Wednesday's match against Arizona.

Oilers' Petry Out Tuesday With Injury

News: Jeff Petry (undisclosed) will be out of the lineup Tuesday against the Kings, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: Coach Dallas Eakins stated a desire to get top blueline prospect Darnell Nurse some game action after he sat out the previous two games, so it appears Jeff Petry's undisclosed ailment will allow him to follow through with the plan. There's nothing to suggest Petry's absence will be a long-term concern, however, so there's a chance he could be available as early as Wednesday versus the Coyotes.

Shoulder Injury Behind Oilers' Petry

News: After dealing with a shoulder injury in training camp, Jeff Petry looks to be ready to go for the start of the regular season, Oilers play-by-play announcer Jack Michaels reports.
Analysis: Jeff Petry was fully practicing Wednesday on the top pairing with Andrew Ference, with whom he'll partner up with in Thursday's season opener against the Flames. The 26-year-old isn't a total liability on the offensive end (17 points in 80 games last season), but he earns his paycheck due to his physicality on the Oilers' back end.

Oilers' Petry Recovering From Shoulder Issue

News: Jeff Petry hasn't participated in any exhibition contests after suffering a shoulder injury on the first day of training camp, Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports.
Analysis: The injury occurred when Jeff Petry collided with teammate Anton Lander in a scrimmage, with his left shoulder taking the brunt of the damage. After taking last week off, Petry has been on the ice with his team for the past two days, with a return to preseason action likely to come later this week. The 26-year-old, who is on a one-year deal with the Oilers, is expected to assume a top-four role on defense. He has some sandpaper in his game (181 hits, 132 blocks in 80 contests in 2013-14), but a minus-22 rating might have limited his overall fantasy impact.

Petry Re-Signs With Oilers

News: The Oilers have signed Jeff Petry to a one-year, $3.1 million contract.
Analysis: With 17 points, 42 PIM and a minus-22 rating in 80 games for the Oilers in 2013-14, Jeff Petry wasn't much of a fantasy factor in most formats, but it's worth noting that he did lead the team in both blocked shots (132) and hits (181) this past season.

Oilers Give Qualifying Offer To Petry

News: Jeff Petry was one of nine Oilers given qualifying offers on Monday, according to Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Jeff Petry had seven goals and 17 points in 80 games for Edmonton last season and will battle for the final defensive pairing in training camp.
