Stars Assign Rynnas To AHL Texas

News: Jussi Rynnas was assigned to AHL Texas on Sunday, Mark Stepneski of the Stars' official site reports.
Analysis: Jussi Rynnas allowed two goals on 15 shots Tuesday against the Jets, allowing five goals in the start before that against the Red Wings. The team utilizes Kari Lehtonen heavily, and will likely continue to do so with Anders Lindback called up to back him up in Rynnas' place.

Stars' Rynnas Gives Up Two In Relief

News: Jussi Rynnas stopped 13 of the 15 shots he faced in relief of starter Kari Lehtonen in Tuesday's loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Jussi Rynnas performed marginally better than Lehtonen while playing the game's final 32:26, but not enough to make a serious argument for more work. Though he's only had a two-game sample size at the NHL level, Rynnas hasn't shown he's any more capable of a backup than Anders Lindback, who was reassigned to the minors last week.

Rynnas Struggles In Stars Debut

News: Jussi Rynnas was lit up for five goals on 29 shots to take the loss in his Stars debut Thursday against the Red Wings.
Analysis: We're sure this isn't quite the NHL return that Jussi Rynnas had in mind, but he didn't turn in very special play in the AHL and the Stars have struggled all year, so not much should be expected from Kari Lehtonen's new backup.

Stars' Rynnas Expected To Start Thursday

News: Jussi Rynnas was the first goalie off the ice at morning skate and is thus in line to start Thursday against the Red Wings, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: After dumping Anders Lindback a day earlier, Jussi Rynnas will become the new backup to Kari Lehtonen, but they'll break him into his first taste of the NHL since 2012-13 with a start right off the bat. Rynnas posted so-so numbers with AHL Texas (2.58 GAA, .913 save percentage in 10 outings), which probably isn't enough to make him a trusty streaming option on the road against a respectable Detroit squad.

Stars Recall Rynnas

News: Jussi Rynnas was recalled from AHL Texas on Wednesday, NHL.com's Mark Stepneski reports.
Analysis: It looks like coach Lindy Ruff decided it was finally time to pull the plug on backup goalie Anders Lindback, who went 0-5 with a 4.63 GAA over his five outings. Jussi Rynnas is unlikely to push No. 1 netminder Kari Lehtonen for regular starts, but it shouldn't be hard for him to clear the low standard set by Lindback. The 26-year-old, who was signed to a two-way deal by the Stars over the summer, went 5-1-4 with a 2.58 GAA over 10 appearances with Texas.

Stars Send Rynnas To AHL

News: Jussi Rynnas has cleared waivers and has been sent to the Texas Stars of the AHL.
Analysis: Jussi Rynnas is on a one-way deal, so he could return if Anders Lindback doesn't look good in relief appearances or if Lehtonen's injury lingers. He's next on the depth chart. But as far as fantasy is concerned, Rynnas should be off your radar for now.

Stars Waive Rynnas

News: Jussi Rynnas was waived by the Stars on Monday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Analysis: Signed to a one-way contract in July following a stellar season in the Finnish Elite League, Jussi Rynnas had been competing with Anders Lindback for the top backup job behind Kari Lehtonen. Though Rynnas performed better in the early stages of camp, Lindback separated himself through his preseason outings, highlighted by a 27-save showing in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Blues. Perhaps another team will take a gamble on Rynnas, but because he's still a rather unknown commodity, he'll likely have to prove himself in the minors first.

Rynnas Signs With Stars

News: Jussi Rynnas has signed a two-year contract with the Stars.
Analysis: Jussi Rynnas, who put up a 28-5-7 record and 1.51 GAA in 40 games with Karpat of the Finnish Elite League last season, joins Anders Lindback in the Stars' backup mix behind starting goalie Kari Lehtonen.

Former Leaf Farmhand Rynnas Returns To Finland

News: Jussi Rynnas has signed with Karpat in the Finnish SM-Liiga, according to a report from overseas.
Analysis: He played in 21 games for the Toronto Marlies and one game for the Maple Leafs in 2013.

Leafs Reassign Rynnas

News: The Maple Leafs reassigned Jussi Rynnas to AHL Toronto on Wednesday, Jonas Siegel of TSN1050 reports.
Analysis: With James Reimer returning from IR on Wednesday, Jussi Rynnas getting the boot back to the AHL comes as no surprise. Expect Rynnas to remain in the minors for the foreseeable future, barring another injury to one of the Leafs' top two goalies.

Rynnas Replaces Scrivens In Toronto Loss

News: Jussi Rynnas replaced starter Ben Scrivens in the third period of Tuesday's game. He stopped all six of the shots he faced.
Analysis: He still needs seasoning, but the Leafs need a second goalie while James Reimer is out. He'll be returned to the AHL once Optimus Reims returns.

Rynnas Recalled By Leafs

News: The Leafs have recalled Jussi Rynnas, James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail reports.
Analysis: Jussi Rynnas was summoned to bolster the Leafs' netminding corps behind Ben Scrivens, with James Reimer dealing with a mild MCL knee strain that is expected to keep him out a minimum of one week.

Leafs May Turn To Rynnas As Backup

News: Jussi Rynnas could get the call to head to the Leafs after starting netminder James Reimer was injured in Monday's game. Reimer could not bear weight on his left leg as he left the game.
Analysis: Jussi Rynnas is 8-7 with three shutouts in 16 games played with the AHL Marlies this season. He hasn't been super consistent in the last couple of weeks, but he's the next in line and should be scooped up in deep formats where goalie points are hard to come by. Don't over-invest, though -- the Leafs could go shopping for another netminder if Reimer is out for long.

Leafs' Prospect Rynnas Out Two Weeks With Groin Injury

News: Jussi Rynnas suffered a groin pull in practice Friday and will be out "a couple weeks," according to Jonas Siegel of TSN1050.
Analysis: The wiry, 6-5 twinetender had started to pull ahead of his battery-mates in the Marlies' goaltending battle before the injury occurred. He had posted a .938 save percentage in a four-game stretch in which he delivered three wins.

Leafs' Rynnas Lit Up In NHL Debut

News: Jussi Rynnas was emergency recalled and ended up being pressed into starting action Thursday against Philadelphia, but allowed seven goals on 30 shots in a blowout loss.
Analysis: With James Reimer still banged up, Jussi Rynnas was recalled Thursday after being sent down Wednesday, and when Jonas Gustavsson was hurt in warmups, the Finn suddenly found himself making his first NHL start. The undrafted netminder has, however, been solid in AHL action over the last two seasons, posting a .911 GAA in 49 total games, so don't just write him off.

Toronto's Rynnas Returned To Marlies

News: Rynnnas was sent back to the Marlies (AHL) on Wednesday, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Ben Scrivens was recalled and he'll likely work in tandem with Jonas Gustavsson in goal for the Leafs while James Reimer tries to rebound from post-concussion symptoms.

Leafs' Rynnas Pressed Into Service

News: Jussi Rynnas stopped all 10 shots he faced in relief of Jonas Gustavsson in Tuesday's loss to Carolina, his first NHL appearance.
Analysis: Jussi Rynnas was recalled on an emergency basis, and, thanks to Gustavsson's spotty performance, coach Randy Carlyle felt the situation was an emergency. Regardless, look for Rynnas to be demoted once James Reimer returns from injury, but it's nice to pitch a partial shutout in your NHL debut.

Toronto Recalls Rynnas On Emergency Basis

News: Toronto recalled Jussi Rynnas on an emergency basis Tuesday, MapleLeafs.com reports.
Analysis: Jussi Rynnas is expected to back up Jonas Gustavsson, so assume that is the case unless we note otherwise. James Reimer (upper body) is out Tuesday.

Leafs Send Rynnas To ECHL

News: Jussi Rynnas has been sent down from the Toronto Marlies to the Reading Royals of the ECHL, reports the Toronto Sun.
Analysis: He's coming off concussion-like symptoms after getting hit in the mask with a puck during a game a couple weeks ago. But the move isn't considered a demotion. Instead, it's a move designed to give him heavy ice time to give him the best possible development.

Leafs' Rynnas Targeted For AHL Duty

News: Jussi Rynnas will challenge Ben Scrivens for the starter's job with the AHL Toronto Marlies this season.
Analysis: He's still relatively raw and we can't help but think that Scrivens might have the inside track as the top dog. But then again, the Leafs' goaltending pipeline is strong and deep, and Jussi Rynnas has a bright future.

Toronto's Rynnas Out At Least Four Weeks

News: Rynnas (broken finger) is expected to miss at least four weeks, Toronto Globe and Mail writer James Mirtle reports.
Analysis: Rynnas' injury probably doesn't mean a whole lot aside from the fact that it leaves Toronto a bit less flexible with their goalie rotation. Rynnas has yet to see any NHL ice time.
