Red Wings' Mrazek Reassigned To AHL

News: Petr Mrazek was reassigned to AHL Grand Rapids on Monday, Chuck Pleiness of Macomb Daily reports.
Analysis: Petr Mrazek was pulled from his start against the Penguins on Wednesday after giving up four goals in two periods and is getting further demoted with this trip to Grand Rapids. It would be surprising if he didn't make his way back to Detroit at some future point in the season, especially since he's already made 20 appearances for the Red Wings this season. On top of that, he appeared in 13-straight games through January and February which seems to denote that he'll head to Grand Rapids to prepare for a future stint with the Red Wings at a later point in the season.

Wings' Mrazek Pulled Wednesday

News: Petr Mrazek was pulled after two periods in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Penguins.
Analysis: The netminder allowed four goals on just 17 shots through two periods, and was replaced by Jimmy Howard to start the third. Petr Mrazek was never close to unseating Howard as Detroit's starter, and he's definitely not closer now.

Wings Stay With Mrazek Wednesday

News: Petr Mrazek will start in goal Wednesday against the Penguins, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Petr Mrazek will receive the start Wednesday despite the fact that Jimmy Howard indicated he's ready to go. Coach Mike Babock decided to give Howard another game off, and Mrazek likely made the decision easier by posting three straight solid performances in net. He will go again Wednesday, though it may be the last in a stretch of games with Howard's anticipated return.

Wings' Mrazek: Nine Wins In 11 Starts

News: Petr Mrazek stopped 22 shots, including a third-period penalty shot, in the Red Wings' 3-1 win over the Coyotes on Saturday night.
Analysis: The Wings were up 1-0 in the third when Martin Erat was awarded the penalty shot. But Petr Mrazek calmly made a blocker save to keep his team up. He has been nothing short of amazing while filling in for the Wings' top two twinetenders. He started his stint with the club on shaky ground, but has nine wins in 11 starts. However, Jonas Gustavsson is back and Jimmy Howard is set to return Wednesday. Will Mrazek stay up or be sent down? He's played well enough for the former, but we don't know what the Wings' plans are.

Wings' Mrazek To Start Saturday

News: Petr Mrazek will get the start in net Saturday against the Coyotes, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Saturday will mark Petr Mrazek's 10th consecutive start between the pipes for the Red Wings. He's been hot of late, posting back-to-back wins while surrendering one goal and registering 50 saves over that span. Mrazek will look to secure his 13th win of the season Saturday against Phoenix.

Wings' Mrazek Makes His Case With Shutout

News: Petr Mrazek stopped all 28 shots he saw for his first shutout of the year Thursday in Colorado.
Analysis: It's great timing for the young goalie, who's now got Jonas Gustavsson breathing down his neck -- Gustavsson was just activated and served as Petr Mrazek's backup Thursday -- and Jimmy Howard on the mend, meaning he might be out of an NHL job soon. He'd hit the skids for a period there, but has pulled out of it impressively with consecutive excellent outings.

Red Wings' Mrazek To Start Thursday

News: Petr Mrazek will start Thursday's game in Colorado, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: With Jimmy Howard and Jonas Gustavsson still sidelined, Petr Mrazek will be the top goaltender for at least a couple more days. Gustavsson is seemingly on track to return either Saturday in Arizona or next Wednesday in Pittsburgh.

Wings' Mrazek Grabs Win

News: Petr Mrazek earned his 11th victory of the season Saturday, turning aside 22 of 23 shots in a 4-1 win over the Islanders.
Analysis: Isles backup Chad Johnson coughed up four goals on 19 shots at the other end of the rink, making things rather easy for Petr Mrazek and the Wings in the matinee affair against one of the East's best clubs. The single goal against was a nice sign for owners, as Mrazek had given up 20 goals over the six prior contests. With the win, Mrazek is now 11-4-1 with pedestrian ratios (.907 save percentage, 2.66 GAA) and could continue to get the bulk of the starts in Motown while Jimmy Howard (groin) remains sidelined until approximately mid-February, though it's worth noting Jonas Gustavsson could return next week.

Red Wings' Mrazek To Get Nod Saturday

News: Petr Mrazek said that he will be between the pipes Saturday against the Islanders, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Petr Mrazek has been awful in his last four outings, with the low point perhaps coming Thursday in Tampa, during which he allowed five goals on 15 shots before being pulled for the final period. The Czech netminder's ongoing struggles could prompt coach Mike Babcock to turn to backup Tom McCollum for a start in the near future, but it looks like it will have to wait another game. Mrazek is in desperate need of a strong outing Saturday, but fantasy owners probably shouldn't stake their mortgage on him coming through.

Wings' Mrazek Yanked Thursday

News: Petr Mrazek allowed five goals on 15 shots and was pulled at the second intermission Thursday against Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Tom McCollum then proceeded to make him look even worse by stopping all 17 shots he faced in the third period. Petr Mrazek's on shaky ground now, having struggled mightily in four straight starts. It wouldn't be surprising to see the Wings go with McCollum in their next game, Saturday against the Isles.

Red Wings' Mrazek Gets Thursday's Start

News: Petr Mrazek will stay in the crease for Thursday's game against the Lightning, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Petr Mrazek barely eeked out a win Tuesday against the Panthers, allowing four goals but making 37 saves in the victory. He's yielded four goals in his last two turns while facing a barrage of shots, and had been pulled in his previous start before that against the Sabres after surrendering three goals on seven shots. While his standing as the Red Wings' No. 1 goalie won't be challenged while Jimmy Howard (groin) and Jonas Gustavsson (shoulder) remain on injured reserve, Mrazek isn't looking like an especially dependable option right now. If other alternatives exist, it may be prudent to keep him on the bench Thursday against a powerful Bolts attack.

Wings' Mrazek Gives Up Four, But Wins

News: Petr Mrazek allowed four goals on 41 shots, but came away with the victory Tuesday against Florida.
Analysis: Not the most shining of outings for Petr Mrazek, but he did face quite a lot of rubber -- much more than opposing goalies Roberto Luongo and Al Montoya, who saw 27 shots in total from Mrazek's mates. That's now five wins in the last six starts for Mrazek, though his stat lines have been a bit uneven.

Red Wings' Mrazek Starting Tuesday

News: Petr Mrazek will start Tuesday's game against the Panthers, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Harvey Fialkov reports.
Analysis: With Jimmy Howard (groin) and Jonas Gustavsson (shoulder) still sidelined, Petr Mrazek opens the second half as Detroit's top netminder. However, both Howard and Gustavsson are hoping to return within the next few weeks, which could push Mrazek back to the AHL. It's also possible that the Red Wings opt to keep Mrazek over Gustavsson as Howard's top backup, given how well Mrazek has played this season.

Wings' Mrazek Blows Lead, Wins In Shootout

News: Petr Mrazek blew a 4-1 lead in the third period Tuesday against Minnesota, but ended up holding on for a 5-4 shootout win. He made 34 saves.
Analysis: Another less-than-spectacular outing for the young Czech netminder, who's given up seven goals in about 80 minutes of action over the last two games. Still, he's the best option the Wings have until Jimmy Howard and/or Jonas Gustavsson can return to health, and it's certainly questionable whether Gustavsson is an upgrade over Petr Mrazek.

Wings Go With Mrazek On Tuesday

News: Petr Mrazek will start Tuesday's game against the Wild, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Petr Mrazek - who sports an 8-3-1 record -- will be afforded a bounce-back opportunity Tuesday after he was pulled Sunday against the Sabres after allowing three goals on seven shots.

Wings' Mrazek Pulled Against Sabres

News: Petr Mrazek was pulled Sunday against Buffalo after giving up three goals on seven shots.
Analysis: After Petr Mrazek was pulled, Tom McCollum entered the game and helped the Wings comeback to defeat the Sabres. With McCollum getting credit for the win, this means Mrazek hasn't suffered an official loss in his last three starts. The 22-year-old has allowed more than three goals only once this season, making his 8-3-1 record very appealing for fantasy goers. With Jimmy Howard (groin) slated to return between Jan. 31 and Feb. 7 and Jonas Gustavsson (shoulder) currently sidelined, Mrazek has taken over the starting role for the time being. Don't worry about his performance Sunday, as the 22-year-old is sure to bounce back. With the Wings having suffered just one loss in seven games, Mrazek makes for a great add until Howard returns.

Wings Go With Mrazek On Sunday

News: Petr Mrazek is slated to start Sunday's game against the Sabres, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Petr Mrazek, who has won his last three starts -- giving up five goals in that span -- looks like a great Sunday lineup option, at least on paper, with the Sabres have dropped 10 straight games.

Wings' Mrazek: 34 Saves In Win Over Preds

News: Petr Mrazek made 34 saves in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Predators.
Analysis: He has three straight wins and has allowed just five goals in that span. And two of those wins have come over elite teams (Blues and Preds). Stick in the spurs and ride this one for as long as you can. The guy has talent. And opportunity.

Mrazek To Start Sunday For Red Wings

News: Petr Mrazek will start against Buffalo on Sunday.
Analysis: Petr Mrazek had another fine game against Nashville on Saturday, saving all but two of 36 shots in the 5-2 victory. Playing against a vulnerable Buffalo squad, it looks like another nice on-paper matchup for Mrazek on Sunday.

Red Wings Lean On Mrazek On Saturday

News: Petr Mrazek will assume the crease for the Red Wings in Saturday's match against the Predators, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Petr Mrazek has done well to keep the Red Wings competitive since stepping in for Jimmy Howard, who remains sidelined with a groin injury. He'll carry a 7-3-1 record and 2.13 GAA into Saturday's tilt against the Predators, a team still formidable despite the loss of Vezina Trophy candidate Pekka Rinne (sprained knee).

Late Overtime Goal Bails Out Wings' Mrazek

News: Petr Mrazek blew a 2-0 third-period lead Thursday against the Blues, but still stopped 25 of 27 shots and ended up with an overtime win.
Analysis: Pavel Datsyuk scored with three seconds left in overtime to avoid a shootout and give Petr Mrazek his fourth win in his last four starts. Despite giving up the lead to a strong St. Louis team on Thursday, Mrazek still played well, as he has whenever he's been called upon this year.

Red Wings Stick With Mrazek

News: Petr Mrazek was the first Detroit goalie off the ice at the team's morning skate, indicating that he is in line to start Thursday's game against the Blues, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Petr Mrazek, who stopped 25-of-26 shots in Tuesday's 3-1 win over Buffalo, has won three of his last four turns overall, while allowing eight goals in that span.

Mrazek Stops 25 In Wings' Win

News: Petr Mrazek turned away 25 of 26 shots Tuesday in a 3-1 win over Buffalo.
Analysis: Rumor has the Red Wings looking into another goalie in the trade market with Jimmy Howard (groin) joining Jonas Gustavsson (shoulder) on the sidelines, but there's no reason for them not to feel good with Petr Mrazek between the pipes. He's been simply been putting up excellent stats for years at every level -- OHL, AHL, NHL -- and he appears to have a future as a legit NHL starter ahead of him.

Red Wings' Mrazek In Net Tuesday

News: Petr Mrazek will be in the crease for Tuesday's game against the Sabres, MLive.com's Brendan Savage reports.
Analysis: Petr Mrazek is set to work as the Red Wings' No. 1 goalie for the next few weeks while Jimmy Howard (groin) and Jonas Gustavsson (shoulder) remain sidelined. Mrazek has been more than adequate in his previous nine appearances this season with the Wings, going 5-3-1 with a 2.29 GAA and .916. He's a must-add in leagues that start multiple goalies, and should make for one of the top Tuesday options against the cellar-dwelling Sabres.

Wings' Mrazek Appears In Relief

News: Petr Mrazek relieved Jimmy Howard after the starter was stretchered off the ice in the first period of Saturday's game against Washington. He allowed two goals on 14 shots in relief.
Analysis: He could be in line for a lot more starts, as Howard's injury looked particularly ugly. There's an MRI on tap Sunday for Howard, so we'll know more soon. Petr Mrazek is talented, but it remains to be seen if he can carry the kind of workload a starting gig would bring.
