Wings' Mrazek Pelted With Pucks In Loss

News: Petr Mrazek made 37 saves in a 4-1 loss to Toronto on Saturday night. He allowed three goals.
Analysis: The loss wasn't really his fault -- his teammates tried to match the Leafs with end-to-end rushes, leaving Petr Mrazek high and dry at times. This was his busiest night of the season so far. He remains a decent match-ups guy ... if you can afford to keep him rostered when he only plays every fourth or fifth game.

Red Wings' Mrazek To Get Nod Saturday

News: Petr Mrazek will be between the pipes Saturday against the Maple Leafs, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: With Jimmy Howard working overtime Friday against the Panthers before losing in a shootout, Petr Mrazek will step into the net to offer the Red Wings' top goalie some relief. Though it will only be his 11th NHL start, Mrazek has proven more than adequate when called upon during his time with the Red Wings, owning a 6-5-0 record, 1.99 GAA and .922 save percentage for his career. He could be an intriguing spot start option Saturday.

Wings Start Mrazek Sunday

News: Petr Mrazek will start in net against the Hurricanes, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Petr Mrazek allowed four goals in his last start, getting looks in net as the backup to Jimmy Howard. He will carry a 2-2-0 record with a 3.62 GAA and .863 save percentage into the matchup.

Wings' Mrazek Stops 34 In Win

News: Petr Mrazek stopped 34 of the 35 shots he faced in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Petr Mrazek made his third start of the season with the normal backup Jonas Gustavsson out for an extended period, and he's now picked up the win in all three. Sunday's performance was his best so far, and although he's showed promise, his playing time will be limited.

Wings' Mrazek Comes Away With Shootout Win

News: Petr Mrazek stopped 21 of 25 shots in Friday's shootout win over New Jersey.
Analysis: Petr Mrazek has filled in fine as Jimmy Howard's backup while Jonas Gustavsson remains out with a shoulder injury, posting a 2-0-0 record. While he will lose most of his fantasy value once Gustavsson returns, the 22-year-old Mrazek is one to keep an eye on, as he could become Detroit's backup goalie in the coming years.

Red Wings To Start Mrazek On Friday

News: Petr Mrazek will be between the pipes Friday against the Devils, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Coach Mike Babcock has elected to rest Jimmy Howard following a stretch of three starts over the previous six days, allowing Petr Mrazek to make his second appearance of the season. The young netminder performed adequately in his season debut Nov. 20 versus the Jets, stopping 28 of 31 shots while coming away with the win.

Wings' Mrazek Victorious In Season Debut

News: Petr Mrazek stopped 28 of 31 against the Jets on Thursday to deliver a win in his season debut at the NHL level.
Analysis: It's good to see Petr Mrazek deliver a solid start in his rare action as Jimmy Howard's backup while Jonas Gustavsson remains out with a shoulder injury. He had an up-and-down start to his season in the AHL after delivering big numbers at that level over the past two seasons, though being bounced back and forth between Detroit and Grand Rapids does no one any favors.

Wings' Mrazek To Make Season Debut In Net Thursday

News: Petr Mrazek will make his season debut in net Thursday against the Jets, Chuck Pleiness of Macomb Daily reports.
Analysis: Petr Mrazek's last NHL game for the Red Wings came last season, when he shut out the Blues. He started six and played in nine games last year, finishing the season with a 1.74 GAA and .927 save percentage.

Red Wings Recall Mrazek

News: Petr Mrazek was recalled from AHL Grand Rapids after the Red Wings concluded their game against the Blackhawks on Friday, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Petr Mrazek was dispatched to the minors earlier this week in an attempt to keep him fresh, and after he logged two starts with Grand Rapids, he'll settle back in to lighter usage as the backup to Jimmy Howard. Thomas McCollum was reassigned to Grand Rapids to clear the way for Mrazek's return to Detroit.

Wings' Mrazek Set To Return Saturday

News: Petr Mrazek will rejoin the Red Wings on Saturday, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Since the Red Wings had a five-day break in their schedule this week, Petr Mrazek was reassigned to AHL Grand Rapids to pick up some playing time. He started Wednesday for the minor league squad and will do so again Friday before returning to the Red Wings to resume backup duties behind Jimmy Howard.

Wings Reassign Mrazek

News: The Red Wings reassigned Petr Mrazek from AHL Grand Rapids on Monday.
Analysis: Petr Mrazek will be replaced on the roster by Tom McCollum, who will serve as Jimmy Howard's backup in Mrazek's absence. There's a good chance Mrazek will be called back up at some point, though, since he's much more experienced than McCollum.

Red Wings' Mrazek To Take Over Backup Goalie Job

News: Petr Mrazek will be called up from AHL Grand Rapids to serve as the Red Wings' backup goalie while Jonas Gustavsson (shoulder) is sidelined, Helene St. James of The Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Gustavsson will be out for an extended period after injuring his shoulder in Wednesday's game, so Petr Mrazek will take over the backup duties behind regular goaltender Jimmy Howard. Gustavsson was playing in just his third game of the season Wednesday, so don't expect Mrazek to see much ice time.

Wings Reassign Mrazek

News: The Red Wings reassigned Petr Mrazek to AHL Grand Rapids on Monday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: With Jimmy Howard once again healthy and Jonas Gustavsson already filling the backup role, Petr Mrazek will return to Grand Rapids to get more playing time.

Red Wings Recall Mrazek On Saturday

News: Petr Mrazek was recalled from AHL Grand Rapids on Saturday, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: After Jimmy Howard sustained a minor groin injury during Friday's start, the Red Wings determined he was unfit to back up Jonas Gustavsson on Saturday, resulting in his placement on 48-hour goalie injured reserve. NHL rules will allow the Red Wings to recall Petr Mrazek on a temporary basis, so he'll offer some insurance Saturday in the event Gustavsson sustains an injury. General manager Ken Holland said the Red Wings fully expect Howard to return to action for the team's next game Tuesday versus the Canadiens, likely making Mrazek's stay with the parent club a short one.

Detroit Sends Mrazek To AHL

News: Petr Mrazek was assigned to AHL Grand Rapids on Tuesday, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: As expected, the Red Wings will go with Jimmy Howard and Jonas Gustavasson as their top two goalies, leaving Petr Mrazek third on the organizational depth chart. He's proven effective during his limited NHL opportunities, going 3-5-0 with a 1.80 ERA and .926 save percentage over nine outings.

Detroit's Mrazek Blanks Toronto

News: Petr Mrazek made 27 saves in a 3-0 preseason victory over Toronto on Monday.
Analysis: Petr Mrazek played well in spot duty last season as well as in AHL Grand Rapids. He's likely going to need an injury to get to Detroit, with Jonas Gustavsson and Jimmy Howard ahead of him, but if he continues to impress it's going to be difficult to keep him out of the NHL.
