Bruins Send Spooner Back To Minors

News: Ryan Spooner was reassigned to AHL Providence on Friday, Joe Haggerty of CSNNE.com reports.
Analysis: Ryan Spooner joined the lineup Thursday against the Jets in place of Patrice Bergeron, seeing 14:18 of ice time and registering a shot on goal. Bergeron's injury was considered minor and looks like it will only keep him one game, lessening the need for the Bruins to hang on to Spooner.

Bruins' Spooner Enters Lineup

News: Ryan Spooner saw 14:18 worth of ice time in Thursday's shootout loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Ryan Spooner, who was playing in his first game with the big club since Jan. 20, has recorded 11 helpers in 23 games for the B's overall. The 22-year-old could see another regular season game or two, with the Bruins resting key players selectively down the stretch, but once the playoffs start, he'll be an injury or two from re-entering the mix. Spooner remains, however, a name to know in keeper formats, given the speed and playmaking upside he possesses.

Bruins Recall Spooner

News: Ryan Spooner was recalled on an emergency basis Wednesday.
Analysis: Ryan Spooner will provide the Bruins with some extra depth at forward while Chris Kelly and Jarome Iginla remain day-to-day with injuries. He could make an appearance in the lineup Thursday against the Jets if neither of those players are able to go.

Bruins Assign Spooner To AHL Providence

News: The Bruins assigned Ryan Spooner to AHL Providence on Friday.
Analysis: Ryan Spooner was called up earlier this week with Carl Soderberg taking a game off to attend the birth his child, but he will head to Providence with Soderberg presumably returning for Saturday's game.

Bruins Recall Spooner

News: The Bruins have recalled Ryan Spooner from AHL Providence, WEEI.com reports.
Analysis: Ryan Spooner, who has notched 11 assists in 22 games with the big club to date, has also racked up 10 goals and 40 points in 42 AHL games. His recall suggests that the B's might be inclined to selectively rest some of their key forwards down the stretch.

Bruins Demote Spooner

News: The Bruins have assigned Ryan Spooner to AHL Providence, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Ryan Spooner, who has racked up 11 assists in 22 games with the big club this season, returns to the AHL, where he has tallied 23 points in 21 contests to date. His demotion is directly tied to the return of Chris Kelly, who Spooner had filled in for on the B's third line. The 21-year-old flashed speed and deft playmaking ability in his stint with the big club and seems destined for a promotion down the road once injuries hit the Bruins up front again.

Bruins' Spooner A Healthy Scratch

News: Ryan Spooner was a healthy scratch Monday against the Islanders.
Analysis: Ryan Spooner, who missed Saturday's game against the Flyers due to illness, was evidently healthy enough to play Monday, but the Bruins elected to keep Jordan Caron in their lineup, while Daniel Paille, Carl Soderberg and Loui Eriksson formed the team's third line.

Bruins' Spooner Set To Sit Again

News: Ryan Spooner (illness) was on the ice for warm-ups, but did not take part in line rushes prior to Monday's game against the Islanders.
Analysis: Based on that, Ryan Spooner is in line to be a scratch Monday, while Jordan Caron remains in the B's lineup.

Bruins' Spooner Healthy Again

News: Ryan Spooner is over his bout with the flu, according to coach Claude Julien.
Analysis: Ryan Spooner -- who has recorded 11 assists in 22 games to date -- is thus in line to play Monday against the Islanders, with Chris Kelly ruled out for the contest. The Bruins play again on Tuesday and given that Kelly could return to action then, the team may be forced to shuffle things up front, an outcome that could affect Spooner.

Bruins' Spooner Feeling Better

News: Ryan Spooner, who missed Saturday's game against the Flyers due to illness, practiced Sunday, the Bruins' official site reports. "He's better today," coach Claude Julien noted Sunday. "Just a flu bug or whatever, that kind of crept in quickly there yesterday so we had to make a quick decision."
Analysis: Ryan Spooner looks like he'll probably be a go for Monday's game against the Islanders, but with Chris Kelly nearing a return, the B's may need to get creative in order to keep Spooner -- who has been centering the team's third line -- in the lineup once Kelly is back.

Bruins' Spooner Out Saturday With Illness

News: Ryan Spooner (illness) will not be in the lineup Saturday vs. the Flyers, CSNNE.com's Joe Haggerty reports.
Analysis: Ryan Spooner has apparently been fighting the flu for a few days now, sapping some energy from his performance. He'll be replaced in the lineup by Jordan Caron, while Carl Soderberg slides over to Spooner's center spot on the third line.

Bruins' Spooner Helps Out

News: Ryan Spooner assisted on the Bruins' only goal in Saturday's 1-0 win over the Sharks.
Analysis: The helper was Ryan Spooner's 10th in 18 games with the big club this season. The youngster is still looking for his first NHL tally (he has played in 22 games overall), but that should come soon, given that he continues to see regular time centering the Bruins' third line, with Chris Kelly still out with a fibula injury. It remains to be seen what Spooner's role will be once Kelly returns, but his speed and crafty playmaking have certainly been assets to the team and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him remain with Boston for good.

Bruins' Spooner Collects Trio Of Assists

News: Ryan Spooner picked up three assists in a 6-2 thrashing of Nashville on Monday.
Analysis: Ryan Spooner also led all Bruins with a whopping six shots on goal. He now has four assists over his past two games. The 21-year-old has impressed since being called up to the Bruins in early December, collecting seven points in 10 games on the season. Spooner has developed some great chemistry with Carl Soderberg on the third line and is likely to remain with the team for the rest of the season.

Bruins' Spooner Fill In For Kelly

News: Ryan Spooner is slated to center Carl Soderberg and Matt Fraser on Sunday against the Leafs.
Analysis: With Chris Kelly on long-term IR with a fractured right fibula, Ryan Spooner could stick as the the B's third-line center for a while, an assignment that could give the promising playmaker some upside in deeper formats in the coming weeks.

Bruins Recall Spooner

News: The Bruins have recalled Ryan Spooner and Matt Fraser from AHL Providence, the Providence Journal reports.
Analysis: The promising Ryan Spooner -- who leads Providence with 24 points in 21 games to date -- gets the call, along with Fraser, with the B's short-handed up front in advance of Sunday's game. The team will be without Shawn Thornton, Loui Eriksson and Chris Kelly on Sunday.

Bruins Assign Spooner To AHL

News: Ryan Spooner was assigned to AHL Providence by the Bruins on Monday.
Analysis: Ryan Spooner played in two games in his first stint of the season with the Bruins and recorded two assists over that stretch. He will return to the AHL, but as a promising young forward, should get the call if injuries strike the Bruins as the season goes on.

Bruins' Spooner Garners First Point

News: Ryan Spooner picked up his first NHL point in his season debut with Boston on Thursday, assisting on Carl Soderberg's first NHL goal in a shootout win over Anaheim.
Analysis: Indeed, it was a day of firsts in Boston. Ryan Spooner skated just 12:22, though, which isn't a promising portent of further production in the near term. He'd been productive for AHL Providence, totaling seven points in eight games.

Bruins Turn Spooner Loose

News: Ryan Spooner will suit up for Thursday's game against the Ducks.
Analysis: It's unclear which B's forward will sit as a result, but Ryan Spooner has some upside on offense and coach Claude Julien said he's looking for some added speed and skill up front with the team having dropped two straight contests.

Bruins' Spooner To Be Recalled Thursday

News: Ryan Spooner will be recalled by the Bruins prior to Thursday's game against the Ducks, Joe Haggerty of CSNNE.com reports.
Analysis: There wasn't any injury Wednesday that prompted this move; rather, it seems the Bruins just want a bit of added depth for Thursday's tilt. In eight games with AHL Providence so far this season, Ryan Spooner has two goals, five assists and a minus-2 rating.

Bruins Send Spooner To AHL

News: The Bruins have sent Ryan Spooner to AHL Providence, the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: Ryan Spooner had a strong training camp, but he's an offensive-minded center not really ideal for third or fourth line duty, and since he obviously isn't ready to supplant either David Krejci or Patrice Bergeron at this time, he's best served by seeing plenty of ice time with Providence. He is, however, a strong candidate for an in-season call-up by the Bruins.

Bruins' Spooner Likely Headed To AHL

News: Ryan Spooner, who scored a goal and an assist in Thursday's preseason win over the Jets, is likely headed to AHL Providence to start the season, the Boston Herald reports. "Yeah, I think the writing's on the wall with that," Spooner said Thursday.
Analysis: Ryan Spooner's best shot to start the season with the big club would have been to man a wing, but the team wants to keep him at center, which limits his short-term opportunities at the NHL level. This would probably puts him but an injury away from a recall and significant role in the Boston offense.

Bruins' Spooner Pushes For Roster Spot

News: Ryan Spooner had four shots on goal in 16:08 of ice time in Monday's preseason contest against the Capitals, the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: While Ryan Spooner didn't score any points Monday, he looked sharp in the contest, using his speed to help create scoring chances. He's been making a strong push for a roster spot in training camp, and even if he doesn't start the season with the big club, Spooner would be an obvious candidate for an in-season call-up, given his upside on offense.

Bruins Send Spooner To AHL

News: Ryan Spooner has been returned to AHL Providence, the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: Ryan Spooner, who took the place of David Krejci between Milan Lucic and Nathan Horton this past Tuesday, played 15:29 in that game. Krejci missed just one game, however, so that was a short-term opportunity for the young center. On Saturday, Spooner skated on a line with Rich Peverley and Jay Pandolfo, seeing just 7:14 worth of ice time. He'll return to Providence for now, where he'll see ample ice time once again, but we have no doubt that Spooner -- a budding young playmaker -- will be back with the big club in time.

Bruins' Spooner Remains In Lineup Thursday

News: Ryan Spooner saw 8:17 worth of ice time in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Senators.
Analysis: Though David Krejci returned to the Boston lineup Thursday, Ryan Spooner still suited up, at the expense of Rich Peverley, who ended up being a surprise healthy scratch. Going forward, the Bruins' two most obvious options with Spooner are to keep him as the team's third-line center (with Peverley on one wing) or to send the young playmaker back to AHL Providence for further seasoning.

Bruins' Spooner Sticks In Lineup Despte Krejci (Knee) Return

News: Ryan Spooner will remain in the lineup Thursday, despite the return of David Krejci (knee), the Boston Globe's Fluto Shinzawa reports.
Analysis: Rich Peverley is the odd man out Thursday night, and it will be interesting to see how this situation develops going forward. Ryan Spooner's talent is intriguing and the Bruins' decision makers seem to be high on him.
