Wings' Andersson Credited With Goal In Loss

News: Joakim Andersson was credited for a second period goal in Thursday's game 4 loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: Lightning netminder Ben Bishop deserves an assist on the goal, as Joakim Andersson's shot attempt deflected off the goalie and up in the air, before Bishop accidentally hit the crossbar and into the net when he tried to clear the puck. After scoring just eight points in 68 regular-season games, Andersson will surely take the goal in any fashion he can get it.

Wings' Andersson Grabs Game Winner Saturday

News: Joakim Andersson tallied the game-winning goal in Saturday's 4-0 triumph over the Lightning.
Analysis: It's just the second goal and seventh point of the season for Joakim Andersson, who doesn't see many scoring chances as a bottom-six forward. Andersson's fantasy value is further limited by the lack of PIM and hits he provides relative to many of his peers on the third and fourth line.

Red Wings' Andersson Returns To Action

News: Joakim Andersson (illness) returned to the ice in Tuesday's 1-0 loss to the Kings.
Analysis: He saw 12:01 of ice time after missing the previous two games with an illness. Joakim Andersson only has five points in 45 games this season, and doesn't supply much value in the form of PIM or hits, either, making him largely irrelevant for fantasy purposes.

Red Wings' Andersson Not Ruled Out Yet For Tuesday

News: Coach Mike Babcock indicated he was hopeful Joakim Andersson (illness) would be able to play Tuesday against the Kings, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Joakim Andersson missed Monday's game against the Ducks due to an illness, but seems to be feeling at least a little bit better a day later. The Red Wings will likely revisit Andersson condition shortly ahead of pregame warmups before determining if he'll be able to play. Danny Clearly would likely step back into the lineup if Andersson is ruled out again.

Wings' Andersson (Illness) Out Monday

News: Joakim Andersson (illness) will not play Monday, Ansari Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Joakim Andersson came down with an illness Monday morning and will be unable to play, so GM Ken Holland said Daniel Cleary will be his replacement. Cleary has not played since late-January.

Wings' Andersson Claims First Goal

News: Joakim Andersson lit the lamp for the first time this season in Thursday's win over the Blues.
Analysis: The fourth-line forward has managed just four points in 32 games, a stark dropoff even from last season's unimpressive 17-point output. With no significant contributions in other categories to bolster his value, Joakim Andersson is a virtual non-entity for fantasy purposes.

Wings' Andersson Out Of Lineup Wednesday

News: Joakim Andersson will be a healthy scratch for Wednesday's matchup with the Flyers, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: With Pavel Datsyuk returning to the lineup, Joakim Andersson was the odd man out. He will likely compete with Luke Glendening for playing time on the fourth line for much of the season.

Wings' Andersson Returns To Lineup

News: Joakim Andersson returned to the lineup Friday following a healthy scratch and added an assist to a 4-2 win against the Devils.
Analysis: Joakim Andersson finally found the scoresheet after 12 games without a point. He had 17 points last season but has struggled a bit so far this year. He has thrown a decent amount of shots on goal in the past six games or so, so he's bound to find the back of the net soon.

Wings' Andersson A Healthy Scratch Wednesday

News: Joakim Andersson will be a healthy scratch Wednesday against the Rangers, Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Joakim Andersson has played in all 12 of the Red Wings' games so far this season, with an average of more than 13 minutes per night, but he'll sit Wednesday in favor of Andrej Nestrasil. The 25-year-old Andersson has yet to record a point and has a minus-2 rating so far this season.

Wings' Andersson Back In Lineup

News: Joakim Andersson will be back in the lineup for Tuesday's Game 3, taking Daniel Alfredsson's spot.
Analysis: Joakim Andersson was a healthy scratch in Game 2 but Alfredsson's back has forced him back into the Red Wings' plans. He had a terrific playoffs last season and hopes to recapture that on the third or fourth line Tuesday.

Andersson Returns To Red Wings' Lineup

Detroit's Andersson Nearing Return

News: Joakim Andersson (broken foot) skated at full speed Saturday and is close to a return, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: The Red Wings are on a three-game winning streak and could use Joakim Andersson, their usual fourth-line center, to help them keep the momentum going. He has 15 points in 58 games.

Red Wings' Andersson Has Broken Foot

News: Joakim Andersson has a broken left foot and will be out for at least the next couple of weeks, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Joakim Andersson is a repeat participant in the Red Wings' ongoing parade of injured centers, though his loss is certainly not as devastating as the absences of stars Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg. On the other hand, it does further deplete the team's depth at the position, as the Red Wings continue to dig deeper and deeper into their minor league ranks to call up reinforcements.

Wings' Andersson Returns

News: Joakim Andersson (lower body) will play Tuesday against the Flyers, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Joakim Andersson, who last suited up for the Wings on Jan. 12, checks back into the team's lineup with 13 points in 46 games. His return coincides with Johan Franzen's return to the ranks of the injured.

Red Wings' Andersson On Track For Tuesday

News: Coach Mike Babcock expects Joakim Andersson (lower body) to return to the lineup Tuesday vs. the Flyers, Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News reports.
Analysis: With Joakim Andersson back at practice and not looking overly limited by the lower-body injury, it doesn't look like he'll require further recovery time. With Johan Franzen and Darren Helm already having returned from IR within the past week, the Red Wings are nearly back to full health at the center spot.

Red Wings' Andersson Won't Play Sunday

News: GM Ken Holland said Joakim Andersson (lower body) will not pay Saturday vs. the Panthers, Chuck Pleiness of the Macomb Daily reports.
Analysis: Coach Mike Babcock said after Saturday's practice that Joakim Andersson would be considered for Sunday's game, but it now looks like they'll give him some additional time to recover from the ailment. There's a good chance Andersson returns from injured reserve next week.

Red Wings' Andersson A Possibility For Sunday

News: Joakim Andersson (lower body) could return to the lineup Sunday vs. the Panthers, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Joakim Andersson was able to skate the last two days after remaining off the ice for a week, and looks to be close to shaking off the lower-body injury. Coach Mike Babcock said that the medical staff would take a closer look at Andersson at Sunday's morning skate before determining if he'll be ready to go for the matchup with the Panthers.

Red Wings' Andersson Resumes Skating

News: Joakim Andersson (lower body) skated Friday for the first time in eight days, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Joakim Andersson is one of several injured Red Wings forwards, but his on-ice activity indicates he may not be part of that group much longer. It seems unlikely that Andersson will be activated for Friday's game given that he has been sidelined for over a week, but it appears he is on track to return to action in the near future.

Red Wings Place Andersson On IR

News: Joakim Andersson (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.
Analysis: With Joakim Andersson still not practicing and set to miss his fourth consecutive game Wednesday, the Red Wings decided to move him to injured reserve to free up roster space. His placement on IR will allow either Jonas Gustavsson or Jonathan Ericsson to be activated for Wednesday's game vs. the Blackhawks.

Red Wings' Andersson Ruled Out Saturday

News: Joakim Andersson (lower body) has been ruled out for Saturday's game vs. the Kings, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Joakim Andersson did not skate during Friday's practice and will miss his second straight game with the injury. Incredibly, with Pavel Datsyuk, Darren Helm and Stephen Weiss all on injured reserve, the Red Wings will be without their top four centers Saturday.

Red Wings' Andersson Ruled Out Thursday

News: Joakim Andersson (lower body) will not play Thursday vs. the Rangers, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Another day, another injured Red Wings forward it seems. Unlike several of the team's other forwards that have already missed huge chunks of time, Joakim Andersson is considered day-to-day and may only be forced out of Thursday's game. Cory Emmerton was called up from AHL Grand Rapids to take his spot in the lineup.

Detroit's Andersson Dishes Out Two Assists

News: Joakim Andersson snapped a 10-game scoreless streak with a pair of assists Wednesday in a 6-1 win against Boston.
Analysis: Joakim Andersson is not in the lineup for his scoring, as his fourth line is more defensive-minded. He has eight points in 22 games.

Wings' Andersson Scores In Loss

News: Joakim Andersson scored a goal -- his first point of the year -- in Thursday's loss to the Coyotes.
Analysis: At the time, it was a game-tying tally, but the lead wouldn't last. The 24-year-old Joakim Andersson has some offensive skills, but won't get too many chances to express them in a third-line role with the Wings.

Red Wings Lock Up Andersson For Two Years

News: Joakim Andersson signed a two-year deal worth about $1.5 million with the Red Wings on Tuesday, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Joakim Andersson excelled with both the Red Wings and the Grand Rapids Griffins last season, earning him the two-year, two-way deal. Andersson should leave the AHL behind for good this season, as he is expected to center the Wings' third or fourth line. His faceoff ability makes him valuable to Detroit, but he still likely has a year or two ahead of him before he holds much fantasy value.

Wings' Andersson Headed To AHL Playoffs

News: Joakim Andersson will join the Griffins for the AHL playoffs and is available to play Friday against Oklahoma City, MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Despite playing in all 14 of the Wings' playoff games and delivering five points, Joakim Andersson and teammate Gustav Nyquist are joining the Griffins to make a push for the Calder Cup before their season officially concludes. Andersson figures to have a regular checking-line role in Detroit next season after playing 38 games for the Wings the lockout shortened campaign.
