Bruins Sign Bartkowski To One-Year Deal

News: Bartkowski agreed to a one-year deal with Matt Bartkowski worth $1.25 million.
Analysis: 2013-14 was Matt Bartkowski's first full season with the Bruins, and the 26-year-old recorded 18 assists with a plus-22 rating and 30 penalty minutes in 64 contests, while helping fill the void created by an injury to Dennis Seidenberg. Bartkowski -- who has 84 NHL games under his belt -- is still looking for his first regular season tally, but despite the lack of goals, his mobility and ability in the transition game are assets to the Bruins.

Bruins' Bartkowski Sits Out Game 2

News: Matt Bartkowski was scratched from the Bruins' lineup Saturday against the Canadiens, the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Matt Bartkowski, who has yet to record a point in four playoff contests, drew a pair of penalties in Thursday's Game 1, both of which resulted in power play goals for Montreal. With Bartkowski scratched Saturday, Andrej Meszaros stepped into the B's lineup, notching an assist in the team's 5-3 win over the Habs.

Bruins' Bartkowski Skates On Monday

News: Matt Bartkowski (illness) participated in Monday's optional skate, the Bruins' official site reports.

Bruins' Bartkowski Out For Game 2

News: Matt Bartkowski (illness) will not be in the lineup for Sunday's Game 2 against the Red Wings, CSNNE.com's Joe Haggerty reports.

Bruins' Bartkowski (Illness) Practices Saturday

News: Matt Bartkowski (illness) took part in Saturday's practice after missing Friday's Game 1.
Analysis: It was the first practice all week for Matt Bartkowski, who was dealing with an illness. His status is still up in the air for Game 2, though his presence on the ice Saturday seems to indicate there's a good chance he'll play. Coach Claude Julien said a determination will be made depending on how Bartkowski feels Sunday.

Bruins' Bartkowski (Undisclosed) Out Friday

News: Matt Bartkowski (undisclosed) will miss Game 1 on Friday after not appearing in warmups.
Analysis: Matt Bartkowski hasn't skated all week so his absence in the warmups and Game 1 isn't shocking. He will probably be questionable for Game 2 as well, and will join Daniel Paille, Chris Kelly and Kevan Miller as injury-related scratches for Game 1.

Bruins' Bartkowski Iffy For Playoff Opener

News: Matt Bartkowski (unspecified reason) did not participate in the Bruins' optional morning skate Friday, csnne.com reports.
Analysis: The report notes that Matt Bartkowski hasn't been seen on the ice since Sunday's season finale against the Devils, so he's iffy heading into Friday's playoff opener against the Red Wings. It Bartkowski is unable to suit up Friday, look for Andrej Meszaros to fill in on the Bruins' blue line.

Bruins' Bartkowski Misses Practice Again

News: Matt Bartkowski (unspecified reason) did not practice Thursday, the Bruins' official site reports.
Analysis: The report points out that a flu bug hit the Bruins earlier this week, though at this stage it's unclear if that's what's ailing Matt Bartkowski, or if he is dealing with an injury of some kind.

Bruins' Bartkowski Misses Practice

News: Matt Bartkowski (unspecified reason) did not practice Wednesday.
Analysis: It's unclear what's ailing Matt Bartkowski, but we should have a better idea regarding his status for Friday's playoff opener by Thursday. Bartkowski recorded 18 assists and a plus-22 rating in 64 games for the Bruins this past season, so in playoff pools he's only an option for heavy backers of Boston.

Bruins' Bartkowski Notches Helper On Thursday

News: Matt Bartkowski notched an assist in 17:23 worth of ice time in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Blackhawks.
Analysis: His helper came when Patrice Bergeron tipped in Matt Bartkowski shot from the point to open up the scoring in Thursday's tilt. Bartkowski now has 16 assists in 57 games, and though he's still looking for his first regular-season NHL goal (in 77 games overall), Bartkowski has carved out a steady role in the Bruins' blue-line rotation, thanks to his mobility and ability in the transition game.

Bruins' Bartkowski A Healthy Scratch

News: Matt Bartkowski will be a healthy scratch Tuesday against the Devils.
Analysis: As a result, Corey Potter is slated to make his Bruins' debut Tuesday. Though Matt Bartkowski notched an assist in Monday's win over the Wild, it wasn't his best game defensively, so he'll take a seat Tuesday, with 15 assists in 53 games (and a plus-21 rating) to his credit this season.

Bruins' Bartkowski Goes Plus-4

News: Matt Bartkowski notched an assist in Sunday's 6-3 win over the Rangers and recorded a plus-4 rating in the contest.
Analysis: Though Matt Bartkowski has yet to score a goal in 45 games this season -- and through 65 career NHL games overall -- he has chipped in 12 assists while recording a solid plus-20 rating. Given that Bartkowski isn't a member of the B's power-play rotation, his fantasy upside is limited for the time being, but the 25-year-old blueliner -- who has two points over his last three games -- does bring underrated mobility to the table.

Ice Time Builds For Bruins' Bartkowski

News: Matt Bartkowski is averaging 19:13 of ice time per game, including 20-plus minutes in 10 of his last 11 contests.
Analysis: Thanks to injuries to Dennis Seidenberg, Adam McQuaid and Dougie Hamilton for various lengths of time this season, Matt Bartkowski has seen his average playing time jump nearly six minutes from 2012-13. He's only produced 10 points in his 42 games, but a minus-16 rating and 99 hits have at least made him somewhat serviceable as a fantasy option on the blue line.

Bruins Bartkowski Back In Mix

News: Matt Bartkowski saw 18:40 worth of ice time Thursday against the Canadiens.
Analysis: Matt Bartkowski, who checks in with six assists in 14 games to date, has often been the odd man out on the B's blue line, due to the team's depth at the position. With Johnny Boychuk out indefinitely though, the improving Bartkowski -- who has displayed solid mobility of late -- figures to remain in the team's lineup for the time being.

Bruins Scratch Bartkowski

News: Matt Bartkowski was a healthy scratch Friday against the Rangers.
Analysis: With Dennis Seidenberg back in the Bruins' lineup, Matt Bartkowski is the odd man out within the team's deep blue line corps for now. When given the chance to suit up, however, Bartkowski has performed capably, displaying poise and underrated puck-moving ability, while recording six assists in 13 games overall. He'll be back in the lineup before long, either due to an injury, or if coach Claude Julien simply invokes some form of rotation in order to keep Bartkowski from sitting too long.

Bruins' Bartkowski Fills In For McQuaid

News: Heading into Monday's game against the Hurricanes, Matt Bartkowski remains in the Bruins' lineup, the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Matt Bartkowski, continues to fill in for Adam McQuaid, who will miss both Monday and Tuesday's games. The Pittsburgh native had a pair of assists in the first period of Friday's loss against the Senators, his first career multi-point effort in the NHL. Overall, he has four points in seven games to date, but given that Bartkowski normally doesn't see power-play duty, his production figures to be sporadic. Once McQuaid is ready to return, the Bruins will have a tough choice to make, lineup-wise, but Bartkowski's poise and mobility are assets to the team's blue-line mix and make him a solid plug-and-play option when any of the team's top six defenders are forced to sit.

Bruins' Bartkowski Sits Thursday

News: Matt Bartkowski was a healthy scratch Thursday against the Lightning.
Analysis: As the Bruins' seventh defenseman, Matt Bartkowski remains an injury away from suiting up, but even when he does play, his fantasy value will be limited, given that he isn't likely to see power play duty.

Bruins' Bartkowski Impresses Coach

News: Matt Bartkowski has impressed his coach early on in training camp, the Boston Herald reports. "The thing I've noticed is that he's come to camp in better shape than he ever has," coach Claude Julien noted. "That's the sign of a player maturing into a good pro. He's obviously figured it out, so that's a good start for Matt."
Analysis: Matt Bartkowski is on track to start the season with the Bruins, with Julien indicating that "it's basically his job to lose" as far as the blueliner sticking with the big club out of the gate.

Bruins' Bartkowski Gives Way To Ference

News: With Andrew Ference returning to the lineup for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals on Saturday against the Penguins, Matt Bartkowski was scratched by the Bruins, the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: Both Ference and Matt Bartkowski skated during the Bruins' pregame warmups Saturday, with the lineup call going down to the wire. Bartkowski, who checks in with two points in seven solidly played postseason games to date, is presumably first in line to re-join the team's active blue line corps in the event of another injury.

Bruins' Bartkowski Notches Team's First Goal

News: Matt Bartkowski opened the scoring in Monday's 5-4 overtime win over the Leafs.
Analysis: With both Wade Redden and Andrew Ference out and Dennis Seidenberg injured early Monday, Matt Bartkowski was pressed into a major role in Game 7, seeing 24:51 worth of ice time. He more than held his own and if his veteran counterparts continue to miss time, Bartkowski could remain in the mix in the second round of the playoff, which begins Thursday for the Bruins.

Bartkowski In Boston Lineup

News: Matt Bartkowski played 6:40 in Friday's Game 5 loss to Toronto in their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series after being called up from Providence (AHL).
Analysis: Matt Bartkowski didn't see much ice time while filling in for the injured Wade Redden (undisclosed), but he did manage to finish the game a minus-1. There's no word yet on Redden's availability for Sunday's Game 6, but odds are Bartkowski won't see much ice time if Friday is any indication.
