News: Phoenix has traded Marc Cheverie to Pittsburgh, reports NHL.com. Cheverie, Harrison Ruopp and a draft pick went to the Penguins in exchange for Zybnek Michalek.
Analysis: He split last season between Gwinnett (ECHL) and Portland (AHL). He struggled at the AHL level but did record a 10-4-8 record with Gwinnett, including a 2.71 GAA and .910 save percentage. Right now, he's a depth minor leaguer whose primary claim to fame is his hometown -- Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia -- same as Sid the Kid.
News: The Coyotes have traded for Marc Cheverie, sending center prospect Justin Bernhardt to Florida, the team's official site reports.
Analysis:Marc Cheverie is part of an ongoing effort to bolster netminding depth after the team's top goalie, Ilya Bryzgalov, departed for Philadelphia. Cheverie played in both the ECHL and AHL last season. In 15 AHL contests, the former Pioneer tallied a 2-7-1 record with a 3.91 GAA. He had better luck in the ECHL with a 13-9-5 record and 3.11 goals against average. Don't expect to see him with the big club anytime soon, but he should see time with the Coyotes' AHL affiliate.
